🎵Do you have any tips for entering senior year in high school? (Congrats on 500!!!! Mwah ur the best) 💖
ahh thank you so much!! you’re pretty awesome too, dee. ^_^
tips for incoming seniors:
keep up your grades, and continue being involved in your school and your community. it’s important to be well-rounded!
think about what you want as your career. what are your interests? what are your strengths? what would you like to do in the future?
if you haven’t already, start thinking about which colleges/universities you would like to attend. have a few options in mind, including schools that you feel you would definitely get into, schools that you might have a chance of getting into, and, of course, your dream schools. do you want to go to school near home? or do you want to go to school somewhere farther away? public school or private school? big school with lots of people, or small school with fewer people? don’t be afraid to be a little ambitious! take some time to do your research, and visit the different campuses to get a feel for what the environment is like, if possible.
the moment college applications become available, start working on them right away! don’t wait until the last minute to complete them, because i can almost guarantee that you will be stressed out about them. writing your personal statement(s) may seem daunting at first, so you can ease yourself into the college app process by filling out the basic information (your name, email, address, high school grades, etc.). then, you can begin working on your essay(s).
make a list of due dates for everything related to college and college apps. keep this list nearby you so that you don’t forget!
prepare and register for any standardized tests that you still need to take (or that you would like to retake), such as the ACT and/or the SAT.
if you feel that you’re capable, consider enrolling in AP/IB/advanced classes. you may be eligible to earn college credits by doing so.
develop a financial aid plan, if you need to. do you think you’ll be needing loans while you’re in college? if so…
apply for FAFSA (free application for federal student aid), or whatever form of financial aid is available where you live. even if you feel like you won’t qualify for financial aid, you should still complete the application anyway because you’ll never know what could happen to your financial situation in the future.
start looking for people who can give you references, as well as people who may be able to write letters of recommendation for you. usually, you need at least 3 people. networking is important!
SCHOLARSHIPS! APPLY FOR THEM! WINNING FREE MONEY IS GREAT! THEY’LL HELP YOU A LOT WHEN IT COMES TO PAYING FOR YOUR COLLEGE TUITION LATER ON! ^_^
that’s about it! i hope this helps! if anyone else would like to add onto this list, please feel free to do so!
compliment: your icon is so cute, and i love how simple and minimal your desktop theme is! i also really like the header on your mobile theme, and your original content is absolutely beautiful!! :)

🎵 Hi!! I'm hoping to be a music major in the future too - do you have any advice for applications?
hello! ahhh i’m so glad to see that you’re interested in being a music major. that makes me super happy! ^_^
advice for future music major applicants:
this is probably really obvious, but you definitely gotta practice! practice as often as you can so that you can keep up and improve your skills. here is a post with some great tips for practicing!
if possible, participate in music groups/organizations/programs/activities outside of school. show the application committee that you are also involved in your community. for example, i participated in a summer music program for 8 years, and i also played classical music for senior citizens and patients with alzheimer’s disease at local care centers as community service (also for about 8 years). additionally, i help my violin teacher with playing piano accompaniment for his younger students at our recitals, and i still continue to do so.
when you’re looking at different universities or music schools that you’re thinking of applying to, you’re most likely required to do an audition. prepare the pieces, scales, repertoire, etc. that each school asks you to perform, and practice them very thoroughly! if a particular school gives you the option or wants you to send in a video audition rather than doing an in-person live audition, make sure you have the necessary equipment to film it (camera, microphone, etc.)!
in your personal statement(s)/college essay(s), write about something related to music! it could be something as simple as having an epiphany while listening to a particular song/piece, or something as interesting as observing and noticing things while attending a concert. for example, i wrote about my experience and process of learning the first movement of beethoven’s waldstein piano sonata (that was a really hard piece!), and i talked about all the different obstacles that i faced and how i overcame them, as well as how i felt frustrated while practicing for hours on end, and how happy and excited i felt when i could finally play it successfully and perform it!
it’s usually best if you have some basic piano skills, even if piano isn’t your primary instrument. having these skills will definitely help you a lot in your future music studies.
think about what aspect of the music field you’re interested in. do you want to compose your own music? do you like conducting? do you like performing? how about working with technology? maybe you’re more interested in history and culture, like (ethno)musicology? or perhaps you want to go into interdisciplinary fields such as music therapy, music education, music management, etc? figure out what part of music interests you the most, and then take the necessary steps that you need to put yourself on the right path to success!
i think that’s about it! hope this helps, and good luck! i’m going to tag my friend @jinstudies since they have more experience than me, and maybe they’d like to add onto this list (hope you don’t mind, jin!).
compliment: i love your icon so much (i think it’s from neko atsume? that’s one of my favorite mobile games, hehe), and it’s really cute! i also like the header on your mobile theme, as well as the color scheme of your desktop theme!

Hey! How are things? (🎵) just curious, what do you do as a music major (what classes you take, the ups or downs of it) do you have to know how to play a music instrument? Haha don't know much about majoring in music so pardon me if the questions are kinda dumb. Congrats on the 500 btw ✨
hello there! i have a slight headache at the moment (hence the slow replies), but other than that, things are going pretty well!
as a music major, i do a variety of things. currently, i’m finishing up my general music studies, which includes taking multiple courses in musicianship (sight-reading, sight-singing, complex rhythms, music theory, etc.), harmony (understanding harmonic structure in music from different time periods), and music history and culture. at my school, and most likely at other schools, i can choose to specialize and take a certain path in the music field. in my case, i plan to focus on audio engineering. other people may choose to go into composition, conducting, performance, (ethno)musicology, etc. some people may even choose to go into interdisciplinary fields such as music therapy, music education, music management, etc.
ups: you’re almost always surrounded by music, which is awesome! and you get to meet and work with all kinds of people in your classes. it’s pretty cool! you might even come across some interesting opportunities. take advantage of them!
downs: it can be frustrating at times. you may find yourself staying up late trying to figure out one little problem in your music homework when the solution is actually quite simple. but please, whatever you do, don’t give up! also, don’t let people with other majors bring you down. being a music major may seem easy to some people, but it’s not. don’t let them tell you otherwise.
it’s usually best if you know how to play at least one musical instrument (basic piano skills are highly recommended), unless you specialize in singing, of course. when you apply to be a music major, you’re usually required to audition! *cue dramatic music* (i’m kidding. auditions aren’t as scary as they may seem.)
these questions aren’t dumb at all! in fact, i thought that they were good questions. there is no such thing as a dumb question. :)
compliment: your url is super cool, and it kinda makes me wish that i could have an interesting url too, haha. i like how simple and minimal our desktop theme is! also, the header on your mobile theme is intriguing (mysterious and interesting blue liquids, hmm…). also, what kind of headphones are the ones in your icon? they look nice!

🎵 this is more out of curiosity so you don't have to do a blog compliment, ahaha, but what are some of the hardest pieces that you had to play? another question: what have you been listening to recently? congrats on the 500+ though! - jin
oh gosh, there’s a lot of hard pieces that i’ve played! here are a few:
beethoven - “waldstein” piano sonata, 1st movement
chopin - piano scherzo no. 2, op. 31
mozart - violin concerto no. 5 in a major, 1st movement
bach - violin partita no. 3, 1st movement
bach - violin sonata no. 1, 2nd movement
bruch - violin concerto no. 1 in g minor, 2nd movement
sarasate - romanza andaluza (violin) (i played it a bit faster than the tempo of this recording)
paganini - solo violin caprice no. 24 + variations
wieniawski - scherzo-tarentelle, op. 16 (violin) (i played it slightly under the actual tempo, because sadly i can’t play it that fast lol)
lately, i’ve been listening to a lot of piano, lo-fi hip-hop and chill electronic (you can find some recommendations here). and, of course, i listened to “shiki no uta” by nujabes ft. minmi pretty often for my research paper!
i’m gonna give you a blog compliment anyway because you’re such a nice friend and because who doesn’t like compliments? :)
compliment: i really like how simple and minimal your theme is, and your blog overall is very well-organized. your icon is nice, too! i also like one of your most recent original posts (the compilation of readings for musicology and theory), and i think it’s really helpful, especially for fellow music majors!

🎵 congrats on 500 friend! what would you say your biggest motivation to succeed is?
ahh thank you so much!! ^_^
i think that my biggest motivation to succeed is that i don’t lose sight of my dreams and my goals. i really want to have good grades, i want to graduate from college successfully, and i want to become an audio engineer and (hopefully) be part of the entertainment industry. in order to make any of these come true, i know that i need to work hard and do my best! so, every now and then, i mentally remind myself of the reasons for why i’m studying and why i’m in school.
compliment: i see that you’re relatively new here (as am i); hello and welcome to the community! i like how clean and simple both your desktop and mobile themes are. your icon is really cute, and you have a lovely name!! :)

🎵 so proud of you for 500! what's your favourite environment to study in? does it involve friends or snacks or music? :3 (if it involves music rec some?
ahh thank you!! my favorite study environment would definitely have to be my room at home because it’s so nice and cozy. as much as i enjoy spending time with friends, i usually prefer to study alone. i don’t always have snacks, but when i do, sometimes i like to have a small handful of cashews or peanuts, or a few slices of an apple or an orange. of course, i gotta study with music! i’m a music major after all, ahaha. lately, i’ve been listening to a lot of piano, lo-fi hip-hop, and chill electronic. all the songs in my study playlist on my about page are some of my personal favorites!
here are a few more:
“blasé” - limes
“sundays” - jufus
“sunset lover” - petit biscuit
“she doesn’t know me” - halberd
“awake” - tycho
compliment: i really love how minimal and simple your desktop theme is! also, your original content is absolutely beautiful, omg. your calligraphy and lettering look so nice! pls teach me your ways ;;

🎵— hello!! first of all, how is college?? honestly I can't wait for college i feel like it's going to be such a great experience. and do you know what schools in the us have good music and astronomy programs because I wanna double major :D hope u have a nice day and i love your blog btw
hi there! college has been quite exhausting and stressful, but overall it’s been a great and rewarding experience so far. i’ve definitely learned a lot more than i did back in high school!
i guess i’m a bit biased here, but uc berkeley (which is where i go to school, btw) has aMAZING music and astronomy programs. the music department really allows you to choose your own path and what specialization you want to pursue and focus on. for example, i’m working towards becoming an audio engineer, but i have friends who are more interested in composition, conducting, performance, or (ethno)musicology. the professors and lecturers are super knowledgeable, and there’s no need to be afraid to talk to them outside of class because they want you to succeed! as for astronomy, i can’t say too much about it because i’ve only taken introduction to general astronomy to fulfill my physical science breadth requirement (fancy way of saying general ed, lol). however, my astronomy professor was very passionate about the subject, and i know that there are a ton of cool research opportunities that you can look into!
i’m sure other uc’s like ucla, uc san diego, uc davis, uc santa barbara, and uc irvine have nice music and astronomy programs too, and perhaps schools on the east coast like nyu and princeton have good programs as well!
ahh sorry this answer is super long, but i hope this helps! good luck! and i’m glad you like my blog; it means a lot to me! ^_^
compliment: your icon is so cute, and i love the bright and happy yellow on your mobile theme! your reblogs are also lovely. keep on keepin’ on!

Hey! Congrats on 500, that's awesome! 🎧 (I can't find the right emoji haha) I got this question the other day and kind of loved it: describe your dream house! And, what's one thing you're looking forward to on the next year?
hello! thank you so much! don’t worry about the emoji lol it’s totally fine.
ooh that’s a fun question! i’ve always admired those super cool ultra-modern houses that i see on tumblr all the time with that nice and sleek design (kinda like this), so my dream house would probably look something like that, haha. it would also be environmentally friendly (solar panels, water conservation technology, etc.). the interior would probably be pretty minimalist with neutral colors and a few accent decor pieces. oh, and if the house came with a happy and fluffy corgi, that would be a nice bonus too. :)
next year, i’m really looking forward to (hopefully) learning more about music and computers and getting a chance to really delve into music technology and audio engineering!
compliment: i really like how clean and simple your desktop theme is! i also like your url, and it kinda makes me wish that i could come up with a cool url like that, ahaha. the header on your mobile theme is lovely as well, and “per aspera ad astra” is one of my favorite latin phrases!

🎵 what lead you to starting a studyblr? o:
i actually kinda briefly talked about this in one of my last replies here, but i don’t mind talking about it again!
basically, this past semester was one hell of a whirlwind, and my mental health just decided to plummet. i’m still not sure why this happened, but it’s most likely due to the fact that i was frequently stressed out, along with some personal problems (which i will not discuss here for the sake of privacy, sorry). i was in a “meh” kinda mood all the time, and i lost a lot of motivation for school. i wanted to feel motivated again, so i decided to start a studyblr! now i feel a lot better, and i’ve come across so many amazing people in the studyblr community. for that, i am truly grateful. :)
compliment: i see that you’re new here; hello and welcome to the community!! your reblogs are nice, and i also really love the header on your mobile theme (yayyy space aesthetic!). keep on keepin’ on!!

🎵 for @bionctes // hi katrina!! what's the most important aspect of life to you? congrats on 500 :)) im so happy for u aaa
hi lily!! ahhh thank you so much! ^_^
oooh gosh, that’s a very deep question! hmm...i think that the most important aspect of life to me would have to be happiness. i feel like a lot of people say things like, “oh, i’ll be happy when i graduate” or “oh, i’ll be happy when i’m in a relationship” or even “oh, i’ll be happy when i move away from home and get my own place.” like...why not be happy now? sure, times can be tough, and everyone gets stressed out, but look how far you’ve come! you’ve made so much progress already, and that’s something to be happy about. take a look around at the things in your home, the food that you eat, the school that you go to, the people in your life that you love and care about. you should appreciate and be happy about those, too. and hey, you’re still alive and here and there’s so many amazing things to come in the future for you, and that’s super exciting!! no matter where in the world you are, and no matter what you become in the future, there will always be at least one reason to be happy. don’t forget to sm:)e!
compliment: omg where do i even begin? both your desktop and mobile themes are absolutely beautiful (i really love the color scheme, and ahhh plants/succulents are great)!! your original content, url, and icon are all lovely, and it’s always a joy talking to you!!

🎵 - hi there! can't believe i've only found your blog now~ congrats on 500+!! what are your stationery favourites (eg. what you take to school) c: ♡
hello! thank you for stopping by; it means a lot to me!! ^_^
pretty much all the stationery that i use is listed on my stationery page, as well as links to purchase them, but here are my 2 favorite writing utensils that i use most frequently:
zebra knock mechanical pencil rubber-100, 0.5mm: it’s nice and lightweight, and because it has a 0.5mm point, my handwriting appears more precise! it’s not available online; i bought mine a long time ago. you might be able to find them in some stationery stores, though! here is what it looks like.
pilot g2 retractable gel roller ball pen, 0.5mm, black ink: this pen writes super smoothly, and i love how easily the ink flows. however, one downside is that it smudges when you try to highlight over it immediately. i have to wait at least a day or two for the ink to set before highlighting. but other than that, it’s great for note-taking and writing in general!
compliment: i love how minimal and simple your desktop theme is, and i also really like the little molang on your sidebar. it’s so cute!! ^_^ the header on your mobile theme and your url are lovely, too! and omg your original content is beautiful!!

🎵mango-studies// kat congrats on 500+!! first off when I first read that you knew how to play 8 (I think?) instruments I kinda just died. in sheer amazement. my mom gave up on me in terms of piano and I only play flute for school/band, so it was like how much dedication did you need to learn 8?? (and also erhu (i think? x2) is so cool) legit though, how did you come upon learning so many instruments and finding the dedication to stick with them? cause i could learn something from you :')
ahhh thank you so much, helen!! ^_^
yes, i do play 8 instruments! and yes, i do play the erhu! all the instruments that i play are listed on my music faq page, btw.
well, to quote one of my favorite fictional characters...
“sometimes things that you start on a whim end up becoming very important to you, too. to get started, i think you just need a little bit of curiosity.” -shimizu kiyoko, haikyuu!!
honestly, i think that i’ve always had a natural affinity for music. growing up, i was almost always surrounded by music. my dad whistled around the house, my mom sang old chinese songs while cooking, and my brother often practiced piano. i started playing piano when i was about 2 or 3 years old, and i was just curiously pressing random keys. as i started getting more serious about studying music, my interest kinda just branched out on its own...
when my brother started learning violin, i wanted to learn too.
i won a recorder as a prize in 2nd grade. it kinda just happened. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i saw a harmonica kit at costco one day and asked my dad to buy it for me lol because why not?
my mom saw an advertisement somewhere to learn chinese instruments, so she signed me up to learn erhu when i was in 3rd or 4th grade. i didn’t even ask. that also kinda just happened. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i participated in orchestra throughout middle school and high school, so that’s when i picked up viola and cello.
i stumbled upon and watched a bunch of music covers of my favorite pop songs on youtube in 10th grade. i was inspired, so i picked up acoustic guitar.
so...yeah. that’s about it! i think i just basically told you my entire life story up until this point, yikes. D: nowadays, i don’t have much time to play all of my instruments, so i mainly focus on piano and violin!
compliment: your icon and desktop theme are both so cute omg. also, your original content is lovely! i like your most recent bujo post, mostly because i love matcha pocky too, ahaha. i haven’t eaten it in a while though ;;
