Choose Your Own Bea's Adventure 5
(Previous Part Here)
Your name is Mountain, and you are an ageless, near immortal demon risen from the pit in the unholy form of a ghoul.
You've lived countless lives whilst on the surface.
You've loved and lost more times than you can count.
Once a husband.
Twice a father, perhaps more.
You can't count the ones you don't know about.
A woodcutter.
A killer.
A penitent man.
Right now, though, you're just Mountain.
You live and work on the abbey's grounds as a gardener, while also doing the lord below's bidding by performing rituals across the globe along with your pack during the touring season.
It's the off season now.
You're home.
...And you're worried out of your goddamned mind about your stupid fucking co-worker who lives in the woods.
Okay, it might be mean to call her stupid, but you can't help it if your words have more bite to them as you bound across the field separating you from the wilder parts of the abbey's grounds to rescue her dumb ass.
From the moment you picked up your phone, rattling on your bedside table, left on vibrate, and saw her name pop up on the screen, you knew it couldn't be for a "good" reason.
Any time she calls you, any time she sends more than a brief text or an outline of her schedule for the day, it's because she's done something bad.
Not always bad-bad, but it's usually bad enough to warrant a long, long talk.
And the moment you hear that nervous little titter to her voice, you know something is very wrong.
It's enough to make you sit up in bed, the mattress protesting as you squash down the already worn springs, and then when the line goes dead quiet...
"Shit, shit, shit, shit-"
You're almost to the lake when you see the fast flickering of a light in the distance on the other side and-
"BITCHASS, SNAKE MOTHERFUCKER, I'M GONNA PISS ON EVERYTHING YOU KNOW AND LOVE!"
You'd know that foul mouth anywhere.
"BEA!"
You don't hesitate to make your may around the lake, shouting all the way.
"BEA, STOP!"
"WHAT?!"
"TURN YOUR LIGHT OFF! STOP! TURN IT OFF!"
She looks between you and the large serpent looming over her with the most perturbed expression you've yet to see her make... but she stops.
The serpent shakes its head and blinks, clearing its vision, letting out a huff before coiling in on itself and lowering itself to the ground.
"...Oh thank fuck." you look at the snake, "Are you okay?"
"I'm-" Bea starts, then looks at you offended, "You're talking to the giant fucking snake??"
You pat the snake on the head as it nods, before turning your attention to Bea, who's now scooching further away from the snake and you.
"Are you okay?" you ask, offering your hand to her, but she just just scowls at you, "What?"
"Oh, so you care now?" she spits, trying, and failing, to stand up.
"I came all the way out here to help you and you-"
"Yeah! And you asked the thing that was going to fucking EAT me if it's okay before even checking to see if I was okay!"
"Because Rain is photosensitive in this form!"
"You- THAT'S RAIN?!"
...
Your name is Rain.
You're a snake right now, but normally you're a dude.
You have no idea what's going on right now.
All you remember is that you went to take a nap at the bottom of the lake and woke up to get a snack.
You swallowed a moose whole.
It was rad.
But then you heard someone running around in the woods, and you thought, "Huh, I should see what's happening."
And then you got blinded by the rapid flickering of a flashlight.
And now Mountain is here.
...Having a domestic with a woman you kind of recognize.
Mountain and her are friends(?).
Also she smacked you with a pool skimmer once because you were playing dead in the abbey's pond.
You look between the two.

A difficult choice no doubt, as evidenced by the tie last round between the Franklin's gull and the Sooty tern.
Black skimmers are found in much of South America and on the southeastern coast of North America. Not only do these birds have those distinct, extra-long lower mandibles, but are also unique among birds (even other skimmers) by being the only bird to have a slit-shaped pupil like a cat! As their name suggests, they feed by dragging their lower mandible through the water as they fly over the ocean, grabbing fish. Since they feed by touch, they can even hunt at night.
Franklin’s gulls breed in central North America and winter in the Caribbean and the western coast of South America. As omnivores, they are very opportunistic and scavenge as well as hunt. They nest near prairie lakes or sometimes floating atop them. In their breeding plumage, they sometimes have a slight pink tinge.
Sooty terns reside throughout tropical oceans around the globe, breeding on islands near the equator. They lay a single egg in a shallow scrape of a nest on a rocky or coral island. They take fish from the surface of the water, typically targeting dense schools far out at sea. Sooty terns can spend a whopping 3 to 10 years on the wing at sea—they can’t even float, since they don’t have the appropriate oil in their feathers.

Container Pools
From Installation to Maintenance: FAQs About Shipping Container Pools
When it comes to creating a unique and stylish backyard oasis, shipping container pools have captured the imagination of many homeowners. These innovative pools offer a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and customizable alternative to traditional in-ground pools.
As the popularity of shipping container pools continues to rise, it's natural for people to have questions about their installation, maintenance, and overall functionality.
In this blog, we'll demystify some frequently asked questions to help you gain a better understanding of these trendy aquatic additions.
What are Shipping Container Pools?
Shipping container pools are exactly what the name suggests – pools created from repurposed shipping containers.
These containers, once used for transporting goods across the globe, are given a second life as unique swimming pools.
The containers' robust steel structure makes them an ideal base for a pool, and their portability allows for flexibility in installation and placement.
Tumblr media
How is it Installed?
The installation process of a shipping container pool is surprisingly straightforward. Here's a step-by-step breakdown:
Pool Site Preparation:
The first step involves hiring a local contractor to prepare the pool site. This typically includes creating a simple concrete pad or setting up footings for the container to rest on.
Delivery and Placement:
Once the cargo container pool is ordered, it's delivered to your home. The customer and the contractor then decide on the best method for moving the pool onto the prepared site. Options include using a roll-off tow truck or a uniloader, depending on available space and logistics.
Connection to Electrical Systems:
After the pool is in position, an electrician makes the final power connection. This step is crucial for ensuring the pool is ready for use. As the electrician works on the power connection, you can start filling the pool with water.
Final Touches:
With the pool filling up, the final touches involve checking that everything is in working order. At this point, you're ready to enjoy your unique pool experience.
How Durable are Shipping Container Pools?
Shipping container pools are known for their durability. The containers' steel structure, combined with innovative design features, results in a pool that can withstand various weather conditions. Many models incorporate a robust fiberglass interior, adding an extra layer of strength and resilience. With proper maintenance, these pools are designed to last for many years.
Are They Customizable?
Absolutely! Shipping container pools are highly customizable. Beyond the diverse design options, you can personalize your pool with features like unique lighting, exterior finishes, decking, heaters, and safety covers.
This flexibility allows you to create a pool that suits your aesthetic preferences and complements your outdoor space.
How is Maintenance Handled?
Maintaining a shipping container pool is relatively straightforward. Here are some essential maintenance tips:
Regular Cleaning:
Regularly clean the pool to remove debris and maintain water clarity. This can be done using a pool skimmer or other appropriate cleaning tools.
Water Chemistry Checks:
Monitor and maintain water chemistry to ensure a balanced environment. This helps prevent algae growth and preserves the quality of the pool liner.
Inspections for Wear or Damage:
Periodically inspect the pool for any signs of wear or damage. Detecting issues early allows for prompt repairs, saving money in the long run.
Winterizing:
During off-seasons, consider winterizing your pool to protect it from the elements. This may involve draining water to a certain level, adding antifreeze, and covering the pool.
Conclusion:
Shipping container pool offer a distinctive and exciting way to enhance your outdoor space. From the installation process to customization options and maintenance tips, these pools provide a refreshing alternative to traditional swimming pools.

Unit 9 Blog Post - Just Amazing
It is not an easy task to pick one amazing fact about Nature. Nature is well, Nature. The number of eco-systems, planets, stars that awe and inspire, the diversity of flowers and trees and even just the variation in blades of grass, are wondrous. Then there are all the insects, reptiles, mammals, fish, birds, and yes even us humans. Not all of these creatures are beautiful, but that again is subjective. One truth, however, is that we all serve some purpose and thus we all belong here. Purpose… an important word. I would like you to consider it as we talk about the topic today.
The Dragonfly is a popular emblem from notebook covers, to café names, to logos, and don’t get me started on the tattoos. They are also in many cultures, a symbol of hope, transformation, new beginnings, change and even good fortune. (David, L, 2022).
Tumblr media
Source: shutterstock_1948485058 (licensed for limited use)
However, not the reason I chose this topic today. Instead, I look to their purpose, and one of those purposes have provided me with some major benefits… living close to a swampy/boggy area, one thing we can be sure of each year are lots of MOSQUITOS! Dragonflies eat these pesky and painful beasts. Now, I am sure Mozzies also have a purpose (to help us appreciate the indoors? To invite us to cover up? support a buy spray industry?), but that is not the topic today.
Tumblr media
Source: shutterstock_1849063864 (licensed)
The Dragonflies surround my backyard, and skim over the pool, all the while clearing the decks and maybe this blog will create some education and show my gratitude.
With a short blog, I will have to focus on the facts that I believe make them an amazing and integral part of nature.
    Did you know?
There are over 7,000 different species (order name is Anisoptera) and have been on this earth for over 325 million years (National Geographic, 2023).  Yes, that’s right, they are survivors!
In the Paleozoic era, wingspan could be a couple of feet, they are much smaller now! (Foster, S., 2023)
In addition to eating insects, they are an important part of the food chain for birds and fish. Also, dragonflies require clean water to support stable oxygen levels, and so scientists will use them as a bioindicator of ecosystem health (National Geographic, 2023)
Dragonflies are strong and fly incredible distances. One type, aptly called the Globe Skimmer or wandering glider, can fly 6,000 KM, the longest flight of any known insect!  (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2023)
Tumblr media
Dragonflies are colourful. They have their structural colours, which can be based on maturity, sex, type of dragon fly, but they also change colour as they move about or so it seems, but it is based on how the angle of light hits certain parts of their sometimes-multi-coloured bodies. This is called iridescence. (Foster, S., 2023). This helps them camouflage, may help attract mates, but also brings such beauty to this world.

Like all of earth’s creatures, rapid urbanization, growing agriculture, deforestation, pollution, and climate change bring risk even to this sturdy and long-lasting insect. 10% of the species is under risk of extinction. (National Geographic, 2023). As dragonflies live on every continent (except Antarctica), this will have long lasting effects. Remember, I cited earlier that they are a barometer of healthy ecosystems. Well, here is one more proof that our ecosystems are in trouble, because the Dragonfly said so.

Rami Beracha to invest in technology start-ups
He is primed and ready for this new challenge, being in advance talks with UAE banks and financial institutions to open a new fund in this Middle Eastern country. This new investment fund seeks to connect companies and local entrepreneurs to create a global renewal center in the Persian Gulf. This move will position the UAE as a center of excellence, further promoting the country’s position as an “investor state”.
The investment fund hopes to invest in cyber and advanced technology. Investments in this diverse field include targeted investments in advances in artificial intelligence, virtual reality, quantum computing, cloud infrastructure, along with robots, skimmers, sensors, image processing, and much more.
Israeli VC Rami Beracha is reported to be initiating and establishing a new international investment fund in the United Arab Emirates called Ender Ventures.
Rising above adversity
Beyond his professional life, for several decades, Beracha has been active in supporting a multitude of organizations that support wounded and disabled Israel Defense Forces veterans. He himself was seriously injured as a soldier in the IDF, losing a hand and foot while serving in Lebanon.
Beracha has channeled his experience of adversity to fuel his success in business. During his tenure at Pitango, the largest venture capital fund in Israel, the firm recorded over eighty exits worth about two billion dollars. His history at Pitango included the sale of Convergin to Oracle for $80 million, the $180 million sale of Dion Networks to Broadcom, and the sale of MobileAccess to Corning Incorporated for a reported $180 million.
In 2011, Beracha was awarded the “Esteemed Partner” honor in the annual survey of Globes magazine among entrepreneurs and managers of start-ups in Israel. Today, he serves as chairman of SOSA, a company that provides advanced technological solutions and innovative models located in the global high-tech centers of Tel Aviv and New York City.
UAE welcomes Israeli and foreign investors
Beracha’s next endeavor is joining the group of pioneering investors and businesses laying the foundations for close economic ties between Israel and the UAE, primarily in the “Desert Jewel” city of Dubai. This city of tall towers, luxury shopping and popular sporting events like Formula 1 is well oiled and primed for investing.
Dubai is not only attracting Israeli investments but investors globally due to its favorable conditions for foreign investors. The UAE has implemented a law that allows 100% foreign ownership of companies located in the country. It also allows the issuance of a ten-year residence visa to foreign investors in the country.
The UAE’s GDP has risen by about 45% in the last decade according to the World Bank.  The government has introduced attractive taxation rates, including a provision enabling investors outside the country to enjoy full tax exemption on profits and investments.
The UAE has adopted policies of bureaucratic relief as well. All these steps have proven to be exceptionally appealing. The UAE climbed to 11th in the world on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business report in 2019. The report ranked the country first in the Mediterranean region. The nation offers an unparalleled investment playground for a venture capitalist like Rama Beracha.
Beracha fueled by past success
The “Abraham Accords” between the UAE and Israel have also introduced new and plentiful economic options for Israeli investors. Beracha and other Israeli investment pioneers are poised to enter an investment market that attracts global investments, a market that is constantly growing.
Beracha has signaled his intent to target investments in the field of advanced technology, a world in which he is already well acquainted. Many of his past accomplishments as a VC investor were in the field of high-tech communications.
Beracha came to the field of investment and business via a study of law. He studied in Tel Aviv and New York, receiving a master’s in business administration from INSEAD University in France. His work across Wall Street and the foundational levels of business have elevated him to leadership roles over the past 20 plus years. Rami Beracha has proven in his personal and business life that he is undaunted by a challenge.

Globe Skimmer (Pantala flavescens)
Family: Libellulidae (Skimmer Dragonfly Family)
IUCN Conservation Status: Least Concern
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also known as the Globe Wanderer or Wandering Glider, the Globe Skimmer is by far the most widespread and abundant dragonfly on earth - it can be found on every continent except Antarctica, and can be found in almost any habitat that provides suitable water (although it is regionally somewhat rare in Europe.) It is perhaps best known for its migratory behavior, engaging in “multi-generational migrations”, meaning that migrations are carried out somewhat like a relay race - part of the overall migration is carried out by one generation which, upon arriving at a destination, mates and dies, with the next generation then travelling to the next location in the overall migration to ensure that their offspring are born in conditions that increase their chance of surviving for long enough to mate themselves. Different populations of Globe Skimmers travel to different locations depending on where they are born (for example Globe Skimmers born in India cross the Indian Ocean and migrate to eastern Africa in the autumn/fall and upon arriving they breed and produce offspring which will then migrate back to India to breed in the following spring), but in its lifespan a single Globe Skimmer may travel 6,000 km (3,730 miles), while a multi-generational migration may involve travelling over 18,000 km (about 11,200 miles). Globe Skimmers mate while in flight and typically lay their eggs in temporary ponds or deep puddles - the larvae develop very quickly and typically reach full maturity within 30-60 days. As with all dragonflies, both adult and larval Globe Skimmers are agile carnivores - adults feed on smaller flying insects, while larvae feed on aquatic invertebrates, tadpoles and even small fish.
Extra Fun Fact: In areas where they occur, it is believed that Globe Skimmers rely on seasonal winds (winds that change directions as the seasons change) to make their migrations easier (typically migrating in the same direction that the wind is blowing.) The changes in wind direction may also be partially responsible for triggering this species’ migratory instincts.
