Knight Quartet Rebellion! So for a while now I’ve been thinking about a potential sequel series to Magical Friends (as all overly-ambitious artists do…) and recently I thought it might be fun to follow a completely different cast of characters and work with the Knight Quartet. ^^

Basically: while Morpho is busy managing the aftermath of MF’s finale, Galacta Knight somehow comes back from the ‘dead’ and plots his revenge…in his own silly, airheaded way. :9 He recruits Dark Meta Knight first, thinking he’s MK (did he go to the wrong planet…?) and then the two of them arrive in Dream Land to seek out the OG Meta Knight as a third ally (i.e. wreak so much havoc that he’s forced to join up with them just to put a stop to the destruction). Meta Knight is the primary POV, along for the ride on GK’s adventure, and over the course of the story he gets to know him better and starts to befriend him (kind of like Gryll vis-a-vis Magolor in MF).

Of course, this idea is a long way away from production. ^^; I haven’t even drafted a script yet, and I feel like I need more time to get used to drawing the knights and to work out their body language…just drawing these scenes was a lot harder than I thought it would be. For one thing, it feels like I may need to play around with different eye shapes to make them emote clearly…

Something you actually ARE likely to see in the nearer future is a series of test animations with these boys. ^^ Like, I envision KQR as a very battle-heavy series (honestly, it kind of has to be) and it’s about time I started practicing choreography. And designing movesets for these guys is gonna be a trip…in case you haven’t noticed, because they lack articulate arms and legs, a lot of the poses and graceful movements you usually use for swordsmen don’t actually work for them… 9w9 In the games, a lot of their maneuvers are either very silly (like the common ‘swish sword around super fast’ move) or very unrealistic (like how Morpho kinda just summons their swords repeatedly rather than actually manipulating them…the ‘double giant sword summon’ in particular is hardly swordplay; it functions more like a hammer swing)

All of ^that works for the type of series that Kirby is-- cute, goofy, abstract-- but personally I’d like for their movements to be either more grounded or more stylized, so you can actually take the fights seriously in a non-interactive medium. So I think I’ll start by studying their in-game movesets and re-interpreting them, and every time I get up to ~20 seconds of test animation I’ll upload it as a video. ^^ If nothing else it’ll be something to keep me animating on a regular basis, as per my New Years’ resolution~

note: i’m so excited for y’all to read this! i don’t know how the two-face reveal will actual go, but this is my interpretation!

you hadn’t heard from harvey in weeks. 

you’d called, texted, emailed, you’d done practically everything to get in contact with him, and yet had heard nothing back. 

you couldn’t remember the exact date or time, all you remember is that it was just an hour before his appointment with the physiatrist, because despite ‘harvey’s warning’, you were determined to have his condition checked out. 

you were in the car, heading toward the clinic where harvey said he’d meet you when he called you up.

“harvey? i was just getting ready to head to the clinic-“

“honey, listen, i don’t have much time.” he spoke quickly, softly, as though he was hidden and didn’t want to be found. 

“harv? what-“

“i’m going away for a bit.” 

a gasp slipped past your lips, “what?? going away?? i don’t understand-“

“i can’t say. think of it like a business trip. i’ll be back soon.” there was a loud ruckus on the other end, panick struck you, “harvey, please, tell me what’s going on.”

“i love you so much. more than you could even imagine.”

“i-“

the line went dead. your breath came out in quick hyperventilated pants. what the hell was he doing? what was that noise? what was happening??

and as panicked as you were, he was your husband. you had to trust him. 

so that’s what you did. 

and you hadn’t heard from him since.

at week two, you decided to go to the GPD, to report a missing persons. but, apparently, harvey had taken leave, reportedly for almost a month. 

and there was nothing you could do. 

weeks flew by, and your worry only increased. your friends, coworkers, they’d stop by with gifts and kind words. but nothing helped. all you wanted was your husband back.

it was past midnight, and you could not sleep, not without him by your side. nightmares plagued your mind to the point that you’d barely been getting sleep at night. and it had taken its toll.

just as you were about to get up and find something to occupy yourself, your phone rang. you let out a soft sigh as you rolled across the king sized bed to your nightstand, the sound only growing louder. 

it was an unknown number, but you answered anyway. you’d given out your number at the GPD so if anyone had any clue where your husband was, they could give you a call.

“hello?” you answered, your voice groggy with sleep. 

“honey?” 

you froze, tears welling up in your eyes. you knew that voice anywhere. “harvey?” you whispered softly, your voice cracking slightly. 

“it’s me.” 

“oh my god,” you sobbed, unable to contain your emotion as a wave of relief washed over you. 

he was okay. he was alive.

“don’t cry, darling, please don’t.” 

“i’m just so happy you’re okay… where are you?” 

“um, about that-“

“harvey, i need to see you.” you said, desperation lacing your voice. there was a sigh on the other end, then silence. 

“harv..?” you questioned, “are you still there?” 

“i’m sending you a pin. you can meet me there.” 

“okay. i love you.”

“i love you too. i’ll see you soon.”

you had never driven faster in your entire life. the location was practically in the middle of nowhere, near one of gotham’s old rundown buildings. 

what he was doing here? you had no clue. 

you now stood in the middle of an abandoned alley, shivering from the cold. this was exactly where harvey had dropped the pin. he was supposed to be here. 

a startling sound of footsteps caused you to whip around to see a figure standing in the darkness of the alley. 

“you came.” his voice was gentle, almost as though he was surprised by her arrival. 

a small smile spread across your lips, “you called.” 

having him here before you made your heart swell. you had missed him so, and he’d finally returned to you. 

you took a few steps forward, only to see harvey stumble back slightly. this confused you. you had also begun to notice that when he’d spoken to you, he’d only kept one side of his face turned toward you. 

“harvey. come here.” you said, your voice stern. but your husband remained still. so with a sigh, you marched toward him, and now that he was near the dead end of the alleyway, he had nowhere to go.

as you neared, you noticed his face seemed different. and when you saw him fully, a gasp ripped from your throat.

the right side of his face was burned, the melted flesh a mixture of pink and purple. the right side of his lip was gone, leaving only his teeth bared. but what hurt the most, was seeing that his right eye, which used to be a vibrant blue, was now a milky white. 

you choked back a sob as you lifted a hand to the scared side of his face, gently placing it upon the deformed cheek. 

“oh beautiful..” you whispered, blinking back tears. the man scoffed but did not shudder at your touch, “how? how can you call me such a name when i look like this..”

you furrowed your brows, “what?”

“i was afraid to meet with you. i was afraid how you would react, i was.. i was afraid that you couldn’t find it in yourself to love…” he raised a hand, gesturing to his face, “this.” 

a soft smile tugged at your lips, “harvey, i did not fall in love with you because of your looks.” you let your hand fall from his cheek and move to rest upon his chest, where you could feel the thump, thump, thump, of his heart. 

“i fell in love with this. with your heart. i will have you, harvey dent, with a face or not.” 

harvey let out a soft chuckle as you continued, “and i will always be here for you. and this, we will get through this together.” 

you could see a single tear slip down the left side of his face, “you promise?”

you leaned forward, pecking your lips gently against what was left of his, sealing the deal. “yes. i promise.”

Ref sheet for my gk oc Astrid! More info about her under the cut

Astrid was born in 1881 in Finland, to a finnish hunter and his swedish wife. Her life was anything but easy during the first few years of her life, where her family struggled with poverty and poor health. They eventually moved to her mother's hometown in sweden in search of better opportunities. She never truly liked her new home in the town, and she'd prefer to go on hunting trips with her dad in the woods. As a young teen, she decided to go back to Finland and live with a distant relative, but was surprised when the relative took her to Russia instead. (Still haven't figured out why, or how they traveled through Russia, but they eventually ended up in Hokkaido)

While on the roads through Russia, she learned to disguise herself as a man, partly to keep herself safe but also because it was something she enjoyed doing. She'd often steal uniforms from soldiers to gain access to their resources/information/etc. Astrid would be considered very handsome while in disguise, and she'd often find other women flirting with her. She'd always be completely dumbfounded when this happened and either come off as standoffish or become a mumbling mess.

While in Hokkaido, she'd run into the 7th a few times, once going so far that she was taken and questioned by Tsurumi. She'd escape the encounter and eventually meet the Sugimoto group, who she teamed up with. During the travels, she'd write down the recipes for all the different foods she's taught about. Many would remind her of dishes from back home, and she'd teach the group about those. She'd use her disguise and hunting skills to help out the group.

GK TRIP - SAPPORO 🍺

the outdoor museum was amazing! picturesque and educational (has english labels!), it was a surprise to walk in and recognize gk scenes in the flesh. i took some "selfies" to commemorate my visit 📸

at the village, i ate some of the herring soba sugimoto had, and tried beer from the beer museum that they said were from the old original recipe! id like to assume that maybe ushiyama liked that one...i didnt, it was too strong for me 😂 plus, i forgot to make a list of places to visit in the historical village, and apparently missed a lot 😭😭😭 i'd def want to go back when its warmer because i basically almost froze in the cold and opted not to explore too far...💔 HERE'S A VIDEO THAT LISTS ALL THE GK PLACES REFERENCED IN THE HISTORICAL VILLAGE!

Would Tsurumi's character arc changed to a grand extent if the fate of Olga and Fina was different? In a way they lived and Tsurumi had less to no trauma about his family. Is his arc really lowkey turns around what happened to his family, kind of? What changed do you think it would make for his role in GK if that event went different in which they lived?

It's an interesting question!

Possibly it would have, as he might have decided to remain in Russia with them, maybe even switch loyalties between Russia and Japan, or he would take them back to Japan with him and not harbour any other ambition than be with them or, at least, wouldn't have harboured such a great grudge toward Wilk and might have remained a more human person or, at least, a less ambitious one.

There's to say though, in the last third of the manga his family drama is underused, basically it merely became an excuse to guilt trip Sofia into talking and into letting Tsurumi kill her. Tsurumi insists it's not his family drama what's moving him, and even though it's made clear he hates Wilk because he blames him for his loss and transferres this hate to Asirpa... well, all this hate just exists and goes nowhere.

It's not a motive, it's not an obstacle to overcome, it's not something that causes him to make mistakes (unless we want to consider the fact his brain started leaking like crazy in Vol 21 when he talks with Asirpa and never again [by the way this wasn't in the magazine version so if you're reading the mangazine version you might not know what I'm talking about]).

So... who knows?

The story wanted to say that loss was the thing that turned him into the Tsurumi we know so, without it, we wouldn't have Tsurumi therefore theoretically Fina and Olga's survival would have been a big change for him... but again, with how underused the whole thing was, we can't really tell what exactly it would have changed.

That's a question, I guess, only Noda knows the answer of.

GSA and star warrior headcannons at midnight:

The order of who came first in the group is Sir Arthur, Sir Nonsurat, Sir Dragato and Sir Falspar. Then a pink orb joined them a decade later (Galacta Knight).

Jecra and Garlude are the best cooks in the army. Their knowledge on the culinary arts is unmatched.

Sir Arthur has an indestructible purple hagoromo that helps him fly. It's been with him since his trip to Floralia with Sir Nonsurat.

Yamikage founded his own ninja clan at the age of 15 (in human years) with the help of Sir Arthur, recruiting in orphans.

Garlude has a special relationship with the Photrons, mainly because of her crown. (Reasons unknown)

Galacta Knight inherited traits from the knight group. Such as having an attraction towards men with scars on their right eye! /j

Demon beasts existed long before the war, but in significantly smaller numbers. They were at a controllable population for Halcandrian scientists to research. Heck some were even friendly, you could've kept one as a pet!

Galacta Knight has adopted atleast 6 people as his parental figures. (Including the 4 knights).

Yamikage and Sir Arthur sometimes go star gazing together during stakeouts. Usually it's just him but Arthur joins in whenever he can.

Dragato is in constant denial of ever being a dad to GK. Yet he's the one who's the closest to Galacta.

Nobody remembers Morpho Knight.
