Given the @dimension20official news today(happy 5 years to Dropout btw), I decided to go ahead and finish the new animated scene I've been working on for Fantasy High.
Me when I’ve been saying that junior year wasn’t needed if the cast didn’t feel like playing teens any more but the announcement of said season has had me more active than I’ve been in months
id like to think that since pib is the only character that can canonically move through stories and also has a penchant for kinda pathetic wet men that he would somehow find gilear and take him under his wing
Before an hour had elapsed of Dimension 20 being a show, Emily Axford found a realistic emotional beat to have her voice slightly break and waver as she says a line. D20 wasn't an hour into its runtime before she says, "Yeah, you said, 'You're no longer a Faeth.' And guess what, I'm not. I'm just Fig now." She didn't come to fuck around. This scene with Gilear is so important because it establishes their relationship, the current of sadness beneath Fig's anger and rebellion, and the basis of Fig and Gilear's character arcs.
The elements of character established in Fig's introduction scene remain present throughout every season of Fantasy High, each season showing how the character grows and what remains integral to the character. Each of the characters' intro scenes do this really well, but none better or more explicitly than Fig's.
I was having a discussion with my good ol’ friend @scalpho about the new Gilear art and how I thought he looked weirdly tall and scraggly. He thought gilear was 5’10/5’11 but I thought Gilear was a short king so we did some “math”
Introducing stage one, AVSGH
Using the new Gilear faeth art, I took the average length of sunglasses to be around 14cm, worked out roughly how many sunglasses tall Gilear was and multiplied it by the 14cm. Which made him a brilliant 122cm tall and for scalpho, a devastating 122cm tall.
AND then scalpho put his sunglasses on him because he was in the zone now
Now, we knew we needed more evidence to support the Gilear short king claim in order for it to be irrefutable.
Stage two, AVPLH
Using the old Gilear art where he’s got the cap of a fountain pen in his pocket, we took the average height of that to be around 5.5cm and calculated Gilear height using the AVPLH.
HOWEVER, his feet are simply on two different planes so scalpho took the height from his left foot and I took his height from his right foot.
We averaged it out to be 122cm again but scalpho made the brilliant point that there are often inconsistencies in height of characters compared to objects due to art style so our next move would take this into account
Stage three, AVGHH
Average gorgug headphone height was devised by scalpho. If we took the average height of gorgugs headphones and divided his canon height of 6’4 by how many headphones tall he was, then scaled Gilear down to a size where his head was roughly the same size as gorgug, we would discover his true height.
First we had to find out the AVGHH
Next we put Gilear next to him
We found out Gilear was roughly 5’1
In order to confirm this, we then placed hallariel next to gorgug to see if we would get 5’11 and hence all the evidence leads us to believe that Gilear faeth is canonically, without a shadow of a doubt, probably, most likely, maybe 5’1.
