...and also the only time that Solas of all people, is completely speechless, for once at a loss for words in response to an irrefutable argument.
Throughout the whole game (with a few exceptions in which he actually admits to having misjudged), whenever you get the chance to debate him on something you do not agree on, Solas, Mr “I’m a trillion years old, you know nothing, so listen carefully” will practically verbally jiu-jitsu you for every possible argument you might have, like, he’s an absolute master at playing Ace Attorney refuting any of your points, much like playing mind chess with Iron Bull, there is no chance to win an argument with Solas if he’s determined to have you recognize the flaw in your logic or at least understand his perspective, making you feel like this gif at the end of every debate.
But when Lavellan says “I would have had you trust me”, finally, there is no counter argument, no clever comeback, no objection... He has nothing. Because Lavellan is right and he knows. There’s just silence until he turns around and continues with the rest of the dialogue. And I think it’s interesting how this is kinda the culmination of all the little hints throughout the whole game at his ingrained distrust, leading up to this moment.
“An enemy can attack you, but only an ally can betray you. Betrayal is always worse.”
"The next time you have to mourn, you don't need to be alone."
“It’s been so long since I could trust someone.”
“That’s when you should lean on your friends.”
“Apologies, Inquisitor. I have learned not to do that.”
“I’ll rely on those I trust.”
"You think to share your power, to avoid the temptation to misuse it. A noble sentiment... but, ultimately, a mistake." (...) "Because while one selfless man may walk away from the lure of power's corruption... no group has ever done so."
“You created a powerful organization, and now it suffers the inevitable fate of such. Betrayal and corruption.”
"I trust my friends."
"I know that mistake well enough to carve the angles of her face from memory."
“She was betrayed as I was betrayed. As the world was betrayed!” - Flemeth about Mythal
You get the sense that him witnessing Mythal being betrayed and murdered by the Evanuris was probably the catalyst for his immense trust issues, so much so that it still has that big of an impact on him centuries later. And of course it has, when 1) it was this batrayal and power corruption that set everything in motion, it almost lead to the end of the entire world, which in turn lead to the creation of the Veil and finally the loss of his world and his people, 2) he has spent the last 1000 years walking the Fade, having to look at the ever present Black City in its center - their prison - as a constant reminder of what happened. (I know it’s not confirmed yet, but come on! 😂)
And then there is Lavellan (or any high approval Inquisitor for that matter) at the end of all this. Who proved him wrong with every action throughout DAI. Who has shown wisdom in their decisions and that the power they were given mustn’t corrupt them. That there is no reason for him not to trust them. And yet, he simply can’t, because the past still haunts him and centuries of history have taught him otherwise (and like a bunch of other reasons for him to not tell Lavellan the truth in that moment in Crestwood, but that’s beside the point here lol).
And then at the end of Trespasser, Lavellan finally throws it straight to his face, and while he could pull any of the excuses listed above, he simply can’t refute them anymore. Look at his expression as he just looks at them in response, at first still frowning for a second, as if he’s still about to argue them again, but then suddenly shifting into sorrow, slightly shaking his head in defeat. “I got nothing.” Solas, who easily managed to own you in any debate prior to this, is all out of arguments. It’s the final argument and the Inquisitor won.
(Well, technically, it even happens twice in this final conversation, if we’re counting Solas’ internal debate with himself. lol)
"We aren't even people to you."
"Not at first. You showed me that I was wrong."
But going back to his distrust, it surely can’t be a coincidence that this whole issue was also topic in a recent interview with DA4′s Creative Director, talking about what defines a hero.
I’ve talked about this numerous times now, like here, here or here, but what it all comes down to is basically just one more penny for the “Solas needs to learn how to trust again in order to be saved from himself” jar. lol
“We will save our friend from himself… if we can.”
Like. It’s literally his name. Pride. Saving Solas from himself does quite literally mean to strip him off his name and the belief that, to quote John Epler again, “only he has the answers, that he is the only one who can solve this” and to accept the help of others. Which is why he has to get a new name by the end of all this. I’m dying on that hill. 😂

Your tags talking about being alone in the woods with jade made me think of this one thought I had bouncing around in my brain for a while. The thought of being alone with jade at night at the campsite you both put together, sitting by the campfire while drinking something he "borrowed" from the lounge stocks and getting buzzed from it. The innocent touches (which were really just him using the opportunity to getting ever so closer to you) slowly turn into him fucking you into the dirt while you're on your hands and knees.
Sorry if my utter depravity for the eel man bothered you. Your tags made me think of it and I had to let it out.
Omg yes... this is the dream. OTL getting drunk in the forest with Jade and then getting railed into the ground. <3
Imagine if the two of you aren't even that close to begin with. You're only staying in the forest to gather materials because you're partners for a project in Professor Crewel's class. But when Jade reveals a bottle of some pretty-looking liquid and tells you it's come right from the lounge's secret stocks, you have trouble denying him. Jade's good at making the worst ideas sound so pleasant, which is exactly how the two of you end up buzzed and whisper-giggling about the silliest of things around a crackling bonfire.
Alcohol always makes strangers seem so much more attractive, and the amber glow from the dancing flames highlights Jade's handsome features so nicely. You realize he's much closer than he was before, his shoulder practically touching yours as he leans in. Under normal circumstances, Jade would never be this intimate with someone he hardly knows, let alone the human Azul's tasked him with gathering information on (it's strictly business, or so he'll lie). But he can blame the alcohol for that come morning when the sun's risen and the fire is but mere ash and still-warm embers.
It's only natural that teasing, experimental touches will snowball into something more deliberate when inebriation guides you closer to lustful attraction. Wandering hands, fleeting smooches, the shedding of pesky clothes... You'll be on your knees before you know it, with your face pressed into your arms to muffle your moans, while Jade's pounding sloppily into you from behind, his hands gripping your hips so roughly his fingertips leave crescent-shaped indents in your skin. You'll spend a good portion of the night fucking in all sorts of positions, and come morning you'll wake in the tent, curled into each other like two perfect puzzle pieces.
There's a heavy silence that thickens in the air when both of you realize your proximity and slowly detach yourselves. You gather your clothes in awkward silence, dressing as quickly as possible alongside Jade. He tells you he's content with never speaking of what occurred if you are, and you agree immediately. What happens in the forest stays in the forest. You make this truce with a mouth full of granola and a mounting sense of embarrassment.
After taking the tent down, packing your supplies, and cleaning your area, you set off for NRC. Jade spies the bruising bite mark on your neck, just slightly higher than the collar of your shirt and completely visible to anyone who might be looking. He can't help the amused smirk that crawls onto his face. That'll be there for the rest of the week.
And so will your image in his mind, apparently.

what side of the bed do steve and bucky sleep on
hallo my dearest nonnie :3 here are some thinky thoughts for you, at least the few I could fit here bc the brain wouldn’t stop producing increasingly ridiculous scenarios lol
before the war
when they push their beds together, which is on most nights, Bucky tends to sleep on Steve’s left side, for practical reasons (as well as the simply, purely self-indulgent concept of getting to fall asleep next to Steve, that is):
one, that’s the side where the window is, and on the colder nights, when chilly draughts will creep in through the crack in the broken frame (that’s been sitting askew since about February ’37), Bucky can curl around Steve’s shivering frame, his chest to the curve of Steve’s back, his arm wrapped carefully around Steve’s waist, and shield him from the cold.
(Steve pretends not to know this. Steve may also pretend he’s asleep when he inevitably snuggles back into Bucky’s warmth, and settles his arm over Bucky’s arm, his hand over Bucky’s hand where it spans Steve’s soft stomach – and if somehow their fingers lace together, filling in each other’s gaps, it’s really nobody’s fault.) (Steve does not pretend he doesn’t love feeling the bow of Bucky’s smile against his neck whenever this happens.)
two, laying on this side gives Bucky access to Steve’s good ear; which is good, because Bucky wants Steve to hear him when he whispers Good morning, always spoken first, always sweetest, and listens for Steve’s sleep-rough Mornin’ in return;
when pre-dawn has barely colored their bedroom in soft blue and periwinkle, and Steve tries to roll away and slip out of bed first, have coffee ready in its pot for when Bucky gets up; and Bucky captures him in his arms, cajoles Steve back into their private cocoon; he wants Steve to know it when he murmurs, Shh, we got time. We can stay a while still. He wants Steve to hear him say it, say we, say us, and he wants Steve to catch the meaning behind it, the holy trinity of You and Me and Home hidden in that one syllable, and feel Steve shiver sweetly at the sound of it;
and on those nights – those nights when Steve’s body opens up for him – when Steve guides him inside and lets Bucky move them together–
when he twists his head back to seek Bucky’s mouth, offering up his cheek, his neck to Bucky’s hungry kisses, Bucky needs him to hear it – the desperate whispers of Please, the breathless praise of Stevie, Steve, Steve, so perfect, drivin’ me insane, doll, the helpless stream of I love you, love you – Bucky won’t let Steve miss a single ounce of it.
now
I think, when Bucky first comes back, being hyper-aware of his surroundings most of the time, the instinct to take the side of the bed that’s farthest from the door is strong, even more so when they’re spending the night away from home for one reason or another;
Steve doesn’t mind. Steve doesn’t even wait for him to ask anymore – he simply claims the door side of the bed for himself, places his broad, strong body between Bucky and the lurking shadows outside and makes a point of tangling their legs together under the blankets. If they want you, he’s said before, his lips sealing the vow against Bucky’s temple, they’ll have to go through me.
this doesn’t guarantee that they won’t, occasionally, wake up on the opposite side than the one they fell asleep on;
mainly in the summer, when Steve starfishes his large mountain-sized self in the middle of the mattress, and then Bucky has to work around him and/or crawl over him (any instances of him elbowing Steve in the guts during this process are totally and entirely accidental) just to go take a piss at 2 AM, and crawling back to his original spot is just too much work (and work means more heat, and more heat means more sweat), so he just plops down in the nearest corner available.
(Things may also get interesting on warmer nights because sleepy, overheated Steve has a tendency to chase after Bucky’s metal arm like it’s the holy grail and he’s stuck in an abridged episode of Monty Python, which is why sometimes – but don’t tell anyone – sometimes Bucky detaches the prosthetic from his shoulder, sticks it in the fridge for a couple of hours, and then leaves Steve to hug it like a teddy bear. Honestly, it’s worth it just to hear Steve’s sigh of relief, and watch his brow smooth into serene sleep. It’s nice while it lasts.)
My point is, no matter which side they’re laying on, as long as they’re together, they’re happy either way 💕💕💕

My brother has a habit of printing out photos of stuff he likes. it's sort of an autism thing I guess.
it's usually stuff like photos of the dog, his favourite food, stock images of chocolate milk, sometimes it's his toys.
but I was rooting around in the hall and I found these
he's in a fandom :,]
he's growing up too fast man. and he chose much better choices than I did when it came to first fandoms.

its ok if you dont like the clown much as i find that to be a very sad and dull existence i can understand it. but ive always been so fascinated watching the way that theres not much room in the fandomspace of homestuck to just not care about her. its always been so weird and hostile even to perceived neutrality and on a scale that just almost never transfers over to other characters. the unanimous not just distaste but anger she instills in people, to the point of breaking through the narrative and into the tangible, living up to the intent and function of her classpect far beyond the means of her story.
like it feels like the biggest dupe in the entirety of homestuck, that AH created a scapegoat character to be an inciting force of rage and everybody sure did take that bait without much awareness at all. its almost funny to me except that it created such an air of hostility that i still feel weird just talking on my personal little comic blog. and then its doubly not funny when you look at this character, made with the express purpose of pissing everybody off, and have to see the attributes that hussie has decided to Use for that function, Who he is saying these things about and for why. and the fans who proclaim equality and consciousness are so quick to latch their jaws into that and tear as soon as the most minimal levels of obfuscation make it easy to do so. and i have to stress minimal because what about gamzees coding is even subtle?
and its not even so much that i care about fandom or even that i want to keep rehashing the admittedly embarrassing amount of damage this space did to me personally that made me unable to stop talking about this shit. but i am just so interested in people and the ways we think and especially in how that relates to stupid shit i have stake in. and in a fandom thats been constantly grasping for reasons to be taken The Most seriously, to have The Smartest takes, its just very silly to me that nobody wants to sit back a little further and peer at it all as a whole, because if they did they might just get a little bit more of a look into how a piece of media wants to trick you into agreeing with it, and that a lot of the work to make this character so Bad and Hateable was work that hussie ultimately didnt even have to do because his readerbase was so willing to do it for them. i just think it says some things about biases.
