Orange Juice - Noah Kahan

I think this song is very Gem, because it is from the perspective of the loved one welcoming them back home after a long time of being away. They offer them orange juice, insisting no one will tempt them with the thing that kept them away. They’re just glad to have them back. The subject was away for some time and has to face going back to the scene of the accident, a changed person, forever guilty and trying to repent. But they’ve already been forgiven by their loved ones, who are just happy they showed up. It’s a bit more complicated than that, as most things are, but that’s the takeaway and I think that Gem still hasn’t given himself the forgiveness and leniency that his family has had for him since the day he arrived. ❤️

So I just finished Gilmore Girls for the first time and boy, do I have some thoughts:

First of all, I love this show so much. More than I ever thought I would. It’s just so comforting. I totally get it now.

Now, for specifics.

Lorelai:

I love Lorelai. She does make some dumb choices, but in the end, she’s just so loveable and fun, I can’t help but adore her.

Rory:

I do not get the hate I’ve seen for Rory! Yes, like her mom, she makes stupid decisions, but she’s so wonderful. Maybe it’s just because I relate to her so closely, but I love Rory so much.

Luke:

Ughhhh I love love love Luke. He’s so unexpectedly hilarious sometimes?? I did not foresee that when I started. Scott Patterson is also strangely one of the best actors on the show, which I also did not expect. Luke is a gem, we love him.

Luke & Lorelai:

How could you not love these two together? They’re absolutely perfect for each other and the pining, especially on Luke’s part, makes for incredible television. I do think their dynamic kind of lost the really special ‘will they, won’t they’ tension after season 1/2, but I still ship them. So glad they ended up together. When she was still with Christopher near the end of season 7, I got a little worried.

Paris:

PARIS IS GAY. I will accept nothing less. She is queer in some way, whether she’s a lesbian or bi. She had absolutely no chemistry with any of her love interests but so much with Rory. Also she’s just amazing all around. I fucking love Paris. Make her queer, cowards.

Lane:

How could you not love Lane? She’s the absolute shit. Cool, supportive, loyal, and a fucking rockstar. I didn’t mind her with Zach to begin with (even though I thought it was a bit strange how they all of a sudden liked each other), but when they got married and had kids, that was a big nope for me. Lane Kim deserved to be a famous rockstar.

Emily & Richard:

I went back and forth on these two. On one hand, they’re very entertaining characters and I do believe they’re trying to do what they think is best, but on the other, I think in the end they do more harm than good. The way they dismiss Lorelai’s trauma, and completely disregard everyone else’s opinion because they assume they automatically know what’s best, just rubs me the wrong way. Not to mention the manipulation and the going behind people’s backs. I think there should’ve been an arc at the end where they finally listened to Lorelai and acknowledged what they’d done and tried to change for the better.

Sookie:

Melissa McCarthy is great in everything, and this is no exception. She’s so sweet and lovable, and such a good friend to Lorelai. I love her. Plus her relationship with Jackson is just lovely.

Michel:

He’s such a sarcastic bitch and I love him. I think that’s all there is to say.

The Townies and Side Characters:

Kirk - Kirk is maybe the funniest part of the show and such a little sweetheart, I love him so much.

Babette - aka the best neighbour ever. We deserved even more of her and Morey than we got.

Miss Patty - same goes for Patty! We need more Patty!

Taylor - annoying and obnoxious but the show wouldn’t be the same without him. Irreplaceable.

Gypsy - again, we needed more!! Gypsy was so funny and I just wanted more!

April - I love April! She’s so sweet. I don’t, however, like what her arrival did to Luke and Lorelai’s relationship, and I fucking hate Anna.

Christopher - I don’t hate him, but he’s definitely not one of my favourites. I think it would’ve been a lot better if he and Lorelai had just been really close friends, or if he had just been fully out of the picture.

And finally, the boys:

Dean:

FUCK. DEAN. Do I need to say more? He’s a toxic, possessive, asshole and I hate him. He was okay in the beginning, but the ‘50s episode really clinched my hatred for him. Huge nope from me. What a dick.

Logan:

Man, do I hate Logan. Obviously not as bad as Dean, but he’s such a douchebag!! I genuinely cannot stand him or put up with any of his bullshit. I thought he would grow on me as the show went on but no, I only hated him more.

Jess:

Best for last. My love for this man knows no bounds. Obviously the best fit for Rory, I love them together, but also his relationship with Luke is so great. Also, justice for his and Rory’s relationship while they were dating!! Why did we only get to see it when shit hit the fan? They kept mentioning how they were going to hang out, that they were meeting up later on, so why didn’t we get to see any of it? Why did we only get to see them when Jess fucked up? I hate that. I also hate that they didn’t end up together, even when Jess grew and changed and bettered himself. Anyway, I just love him. I could talk about him forever.

A Year in the Life:

They tried to fit 22 episodes worth of Gilmore Girls into 4 episodes, and it didn’t work. The first episode did an okay job, and I did kind of love the last episode (the wedding!), but the middle two were. . . yikes. No theme song/opening titles? No transitions? NO SOOKIE EXCEPT FOR ONE SCENE AT THE END? Michel thinking about leaving the inn and Lorelai being abandoned by both of her friends? No Jackson? Rory being with an engaged Logan? Basically no Jess except for a few scenes, one of which broke my heart? I could go on forever.

That being said, they should make more after the cliffhanger they left us on. I’ll take whatever I can get, even if it’s subpar.

Anyway those are just a few of my many thoughts about this show. I can’t believe I waited until now to watch it. I need someone to talk about this show with so if you see this and want to talk, DM me.

Tae was having trouble focusing today. He was stumbling on every task, overthinking it to the point of failure, and he knew Gem could see it. He was surprised, actually, that Gem hadn't said anything yet, considering this was probably the fourth nail that he'd bent into a completely useless shape and was busy prying it out of the board.

And the thing was, Gem wasn't exactly the easiest guy to get along with. Tae wasn't even sure if he liked him exactly, but Gem had a lot of brothers and maybe he knew a thing or two about how to impress them?

That sounded so stupid even just thinking it in his head, but Tae knew he wasn't going to be able to move on from this. It was literally all he could think about. He sighed deeply and turned to Gem.

"Hey so, I had this idea for the market remodel," he said, turning to Gem. "Can I show it to you and you can tell me what you think? It's about break time anyway, right?"

Watch Me Fall (Carnival) || Gem&Angel

As Angel meandered around the carnival, the autumn winds rustling through her hair and the pockets of her coat keeping her hands warm, she couldn't help but think--maybe there's a reason it's called New England. In between the pumpkin carving and the candied apples being sold, there really wasn't much of a difference from the place that she'd once called "home", if you could call it that. It was at least comforting, to still have these normalcy in between the new and surprising magical things she found around every corner.

Still, she was used to watching from a distance, and it was bemusing to see people lose their minds over these carnival games that were clearly rigged. There was one game however, that didn't seem to be drawing anyone in at all. "Test Your Strength" the sign advertised, with a long colorful pole and a bell at the top, along with a comically huge hammer propped up against it.

A smirk curled on her lips as her eyes rolled. "Oh wow, I don't think anyone would be strong enough to beat that," she joked a little too loudly. Either her bait for find someone to give it a try, or someone to make fun of it with her, and either was a win.

The real problem with Swynlake (aside from the goo monsters and storm demons and evil vampires who were into human sacrifice) was that nobody felt bad for Lightning. As much as Lightning resented what the stranger at Chippamunka’s had said to him, it was kind of true. Nobody really cared. 

Lightning was mulling this over in the Hunted Deer over an IPA when it occurred to him that he wasn’t the only one. The only one who had gotten ripped apart by the online mob, that was! He had seen what had gone down with that @firestarter69 the other day, and here he was, at the same bar! 

Now, Lightning did not necessarily approve of what this guy had been accused of saying, but he was a young guy! Clearly a bit of a shit stirrer. Did everyone really need to account for everything they said offhand? Maybe this was the ally he was looking for. 

“What a week, huh?” He chuckled, shaking his head, like they were both in on this joke.

All The Little Lights | Genya

Tanya was kind of done being mad at Gem. In retrospect, the whole fight was embarrassing. She was, after all, the one who had exposed the truth about her being a revenant. Gem just happened to hear it. And if the roles were reversed, she probably would’ve said the same things. Plus, she kind of... missed him.

Okay, ew, but it was kind of true.

She didn’t want to have a big reconciliation with him, though. She just wanted things to go back to normal. It was the way she and Sonam used to fight— an explosive argument, quickly forgotten. So when Tanya saw Gem outside the Inn, frowning at a string of lights that seemed to have burned out, she took her opportunity.

“You can go up on the ladder and get them down, I’ll stay on the ground and catch ‘em. Otherwise this is gonna get, like, really heavy and unwieldy,” Tanya said, popping up next to him.

Pixie’s was hopping on this particular Saturday Night. There was a good band on, the music was loud, the staff busy and the patrons happy. Well - most of the patrons. Aside one Gregory Eeyore, who was loitering by the outskirts of the bar. Now, it wasn’t Pixie’s itself that was making the man displeased, of course - but just his general attitude. State of being, more like. Greg didn’t often frequent Pixie’s. At least... not without a friend or a reason (ie; celebration, date, etc) - but today he had...a very different reason. 

See - he was stuck watching one Gem Morey filter in and out of the crowd. Normally, Gregory wouldn’t talk to Gem. He was afraid of Gem. Gem was mean, and rude and standoffish and arguably the worst Morey brother - but.. he was also the one he needed at the moment, wasn’t he? So when he seemed to be pulling away from a conversation, Gregory forced himself to shift in beside him, immediately gesturing for two shots their way before he turned his gaze gently towards Gem’s own. 

“...hey.”

Fixer Upper || Setae

There was someone new starting at Morey Construction. 

While it wasn’t like it wasn’t something that happened (obviously it was, they had employees, after all) it wasn’t exactly a common occurrence. Technically their two newest employees were Finnley and Gem. Everyone else was a rather solid group they’d have for a few years at the very least. 

Sebastian had been in charge of the new employee training and paperwork for a long time now, easily passed onto him from the parentals when it became the better choice. It was just... easier for him. He already did a bulk of the paperwork, and he knew enough about the processes, procedures and little details of their job to train the next people to go out into the field too. Even if he himself wasn’t out there very often. 

So - today he’d be going through the first day basics with their new hire; Tae Moon. He didn’t know a lot about the kid. Just that he was pretty fresh out of secondary, was a Moon, worked at the market (or.. used to) and evidently liked to work with his hands. So Sebastian gathered the paperwork and information and when the younger man showed up at the office, Seb offered him a small smile and a hand. The Moons were Mundus.

Bright Lights - Gemsie

Carnivals were fun! But they weren’t much fun when you couldn’t eat, as delicious smells filled the air that would only taste of ash, and voices shrieked as people got excited, filling her ears. Bright lights and loud noises just seemed noisy now. Or perhaps if she actually had someone to enjoy it all with, it wouldn’t be so infuriating. But all the games were too easy, the rides no fun on your own. She was about to turn tail and give up, feeling a black mood creeping up on her when she spotted a figure she’d actually like to talk to. 

He’d been around the inn (of course, when was he not?) but Jessie had kept her distance a little lately. While Mads had promised to not tell anybody about her status, it was hard to tell whether he included his brothers in that... Not that Gem was exactly a fool, and he knew full well where she was staying. All the same, she’d rather keep the peace. Until her boredom prodded her. “Well hello stranger,” she loped up behind him, joining him in examining a stall. “I was worried I’d have to go the whole day without seeing you!”
