I know garak is like 1 slap on the ass from killing himself in Afterimage but his neck is so large in this one that i think if he threw himself off the upper level of the promenade with suicidal intent he would just glide to safety

I just finished season 4 of ds9 and here are my thoughts as a first time viewer:
- starting the season off strong with some Garashir flirting in the medbay 😏
- love to see Worf, but where's Alexander?
- and where the hell is KEIKO
- cool can't wait to ugly cry every time I think about 'The Visitor'
- omg did Julian and miles break up? :(
- they got back together, thanks Keiko :)
- let Jadzia bang her ex-wife!!! LEAVE HER ALONE! GET A JOB!
- Our Man Bashir is just Julian and Garak on a date, having a normal fun good time as boyfriends
- Quark is really out here just trying to get Odo's attention huh
- I am once again asking: if Dukat evil, why sexy!!!?!
- Kira's line to Dukat : "why is that when you smile I wanna leave the room" is so real
- KEIKO'S BACK
- Keiko really said, "you don't need to break up with Julian just cause I'm back, Miles 🙄" our poly matchmaking queen
- Fashion Spotlight: Whatever the hell Quark's been wearing all season 🌈
- Jake. Please. Date someone your own age, I am begging you.
- Benjamin. Stop letting older alien women near your teenage son!
- crazy mirror Julian can still get it, but a little less cause of the haircut
- Ah Weyoun, I've heard so much about you and idk I'm not sold yet pal 🧐
- the Jem'hadar are still serving 💅 they're so sassy and for what
- ommmggg kira joining the polycule as a surrogate / Keiko's girlfriend
- so Quark's just openly pining for Odo now huh
- Miles suggesting Julian move in...DO IT! KEIKO WILL LET YOU! COMPLETE THE POLYCULE!
Ds9 is still holding the title of my fave star trek franchise (sorry tos I love you forever) let's go season 5!

What if Garak pulled a Spock? Like, ten years after Bashir moves to Cardassia, he comes home from a busy day at the hospital and Garak is having red leaf tea and laughing with some Cardassian guy Bashir has never seen before and Garak’s just like, “Oh, this is my brother.”

Thinking of Spock’s “when I feel [hot gay love] for you, I am ashamed” about how Spock feels that his soft spot for Kirk proves that he is not Vulcan, and that he should put his personal values above his love.
Connecting this to Garak and his Cardassian devotion, and thinking about how it would feel for him to realize that sometimes instead of missing home, he is missing Julian. How in his head it would prove to him that it was right to exile him, because even when he longs so deeply for home, its not his top priority.
Not “I love you and I am ashamed”
But “I love you and I should be ashamed”
Because would Garak ever feel ashamed for something like that? He’s done worse and had less of an issue with it. That’s exactly why it’s an issue though, because he should want to fix it, to ensure that Cardassia is his only focus, and he doesn’t. He should feel awful that he never learned his lesson, but he doesn’t. He feels awful that he doesn’t feel awful about it.
On a lonely space station with no sun, he should miss the sun of his home planet.
Who needs the sun when your love smiles with the warmth of ten thousand stars?

Episode 14 (The Conscience of The King). This is the reason I didn’t use the titles, you think I know how to spell concience?
Anyhow:
- oh neat mackers
- that was a weird and sudden transition for the theme
- WHY as the daughter of the actor playing mac would you play lady m???
- I also see dead men when trying to kiss women..
- “Mr. Spock, the man on top walks a lonely street. The chain of command is often a noose.” “Spare me your philosophical metaphors, Doctor.” They hate each other
- “my fathers race was spared the effects of alcohol” “oh now I know why they were conquered” WHAT THE FUCK BONES
- “did it ever occur to you that he actually just might like the girl?” “It occurred. I dismissed it” “you would”
- this scene is just Spock trying to get Bones to agree with him and Bones trying to get Spock to sit down to have a drink with him. They’re married and you cannot convince me otherwise.
- Spock is worried :((
- NOT THE MILK!
- “you should be told the difference between empiricism and stubbornness, Doctor” DAMN. damn.
- God, I hope they don’t spoil hamlet for me
- I like how her story is actually similar to lady m, trying to protect a terrible man’s actions, killing, going insane because of it
- “but you’re safe now father” could you say that MORE like a creepy doll
- her performance, smiling and laughing and crying, wow. Just, wow.
- WOAH BONES WHAT? She doesn’t remember her father’s death?
- I may be an actor but this is not my favourite episode so far…
Episode 15 (Balance Of Terror):
- if I dressed like that on my wedding day I’d cry. This is why we love Garak
- the first look at Romulans and everybody is looking at Spock and Spock is surprised as fuck
- the navigator for this episode (it’s not Chekhov, I don’t care what his name is) being disgusting towards Spock and Kirk going “what was that?” Like you better fucking not
- Spock is biting his lip and not defending himself, he was/is scared that Jim will think he’s with the Romulans
- “this is the hardest substance known to our science” *proceeds to break it* McCoy then goes into *studying Spock* mode
- McCoy and Kirk watching as Spock gets verbally attacked. I cannot describe the laugh I let out after saying “guess who’s going to die”
- They are the angel and devil on Kirk’s shoulder but not who you’d expect is who. And they’re married. And they literally hate each other.
- “Bones, what if I’m wrong?” Then Bones gives a great speech. It consists of what he’s essentially been trying to say this whole episode, which is, “Stop trying to end up in my med bay. You idiot.”
- not sure why the Romulan captain was so ready to say they’d be friends but it was a good speech
- of course Tomilson died. And now there’s another person hugging Kirk when sad. He almost never hugs back, he cannot be that comforting.
Wow already finished episode 15, and it feels like I’ve barely just finished 10. I am excited for 20 though, I read a couple episode descriptions…
Continuing this thread is honestly just fun for me. A lot of the time I find I don’t make exactly astute observations.
Here’s the master list :)

My brain works faster than my hands bear with me so Imagine if Julian made a fort and for whatever reason (we know the reason) shows garak and garak for an understandable reason for not understanding most human tendencies (there’s a cat in human brains that demand we make hidey holes) misinterprets it as a nest like the thing for your mate or eggs like Julian is finally asking him
Cue to garak standing awkwardly watching Julian excitedly making the fort bigger (if you want your sorta kinda lizard boyfriend to come into your cool super tent you must make it big and have him sit next to the door way) to fit both of them while gesturing for him to come in and help like this isn’t going to build its self
Garak: “…you’re what?..”
Julian: “my fort! look at my cool fort I built ! Garak it’s so cool you gotta come in here”
Julian shoves more snacks in the fort along with a light to see and small fan so it doesn’t get too hot and takes garaks hand before he can protest. (it’s gonna get hot) he takes a deep breath remembers forgets and then garak is surprisingly much warmer and comfortable in the nest so he lets the doctor pull him in away from the biting cold of the space station and it’s just them sitting in the nest away from everything,…usually being holed up makes him feel tight but with Julian it’s better.
Julian: “so what do you think? You like ? Not as good as the ones I used to make when I was a child you see but still good”
He fidgets with kukalaka on his lap and turning on the flashlight standing it upright on a pile of blankets to be able to see better. Before opening up the bag of popcorn he gives it a good shake to equally distribute the butter and opening it up.
(Nyhehehe i stop here until I get more I will eat chocolate to give me answers)

Garak @lietwice sent:
❝ if you lose, your first child is mine. ❞
"Oh yeah?" he asks, amused. The dice are still rolling around in his palm. "My first, huh? Emma, sweetheart, I think Yadik is trying to get you as a shiny prize. You have anything to say about that?"
She rolls her eyes and shifts in her chair as she sets her book to the side. "No deal, Abba. I belong to me. You'd better make a counter-offer."
Julian pauses, looking thoughtful for a moment. "Huh. Would you accept fifth? Maybe we'll even up the ante?" They'd talked about it a little bit already, but still, Julian thinks it might throw him off to put it flat out on the table now. "If you win, I'll make you a fifth." And carry it himself.

This has always been a big source of mystery for me when reading A Stitch In Time and there’s tons of contradictory information. In some parts, Garak describes himself as a grown man, in other parts he’s described as a kid. Some students in his group have not gone through the brunt of puberty yet (developing their ridges) which implies a younger age, and Garak is old enough to have developed a semblance of sexual interest, but he also does come off as naive regarding that topic in some ways (that comment about not understanding what his teacher meant by female students being a distraction didn’t read as a joke to me, though maybe you interpreted it differently) I’m just curious what age range everyone was envisioning when reading this book.
Reblog for a bigger sample size and maybe tell me why you picked your answer in the notes or replies. Thank you :-)

I love these berserker rage episodes Garak goes into in his youth because while he seems to have outgrown those for the most part come the show, we still see glimpses of them. a habit he could never truly shake off, it seems

I’ll say it louder this time for the people in the back:
Star Trek episodes were constantly being written by a rotating and collaborating group of different (mostly white and male), writers and often took spec scripts from outside writers as well. No single writer was going to have the one definitive take on any single characterization for the handful of main characters that existed for the TNG-VOY era shows. Writers also played favorites and often wrote most for the character or characters that they found the most interesting.
So when I say that half of my method for enjoying Star Trek is to selectively accept or reject characterization on an episode-by-episode basis, THIS IS WHY.
There is a difference between ignoring all character flaws, and having a discerning eye for ignoring Dated, Prejudiced, And Heteronormative Bullshit. I don’t see anyone fully absorbing this Spock quote into their understanding of his character’s personality, opinions, and general disposition: “ [It preys] on women because women are more easily and more deeply terrified, generating more sheer horror than the male of the species. ” (TOS, S2E14 “Wolf in the Fold”),
And why don’t they consider this part of Spock’s characterization? Why doesn’t anyone agree that Spock thinks all women are weak and more easily terrified than men?
Because we know it’s 1960′s dog shit.
So if I see one more anon in my inbox coming to me and saying that there’s something wrong with me for ignoring the unnecessary and badly written parts of Tom Paris’s characterization (under the excuse that they think I ignore any characterization that doesn’t depict him as being “perfect”), I’m going to turn off anon for good. There is never a reason to go into someone’s askbox or messages and patronize them, that’s just cyberbullying so I hope you’re proud of yourself.
P.S. I don’t have to explain my internal thought processes on how I do or do not interact with fictional characters to you or anyone else if I don’t want to.
And if you’re just looking for a fight, then say it to my goddamn face next time instead of hiding behind anonymous, you fucking coward.

I think Garak and Julian are very Moon and Sun, but not because of dark and light or good and bad. I would agree to them being coldness and warmth. I think they’re more like follower and leader, both destined for a position they don’t really want, wanting more or less than what’s expected of them. The loneliness of never getting more than what’s given by everyone else. And they fit together that way, a crafted follower taking charge and a born leader letting go.
Anyways they have heated literary debates about the significance of the sun and moon in metaphor all the time and can never agree. Julian is too busy thinking about how much Garak glows when they’re together, and Garak is cursing himself for getting so lost in Julian’s warmth.

My favorite extremely niche garashir fanfic trope is when people write "what Garak was doing in If Wishes Were Horses" fic and obviously Julian shows up but so does Tain at the same time. Like it makes perfect thematic sense that Garak's guilt and trauma show up to ruin his romantic/sexual daydreams! But also. god. the Freud of it all.
