How It Started VS How Its Going

Back on that @pinchhitsfromthevoid hype! This pinch prompt was for @dayables​ who I know got spoiled in the brainstorming chat (rip) but I still hope you enjoy how it turned out! You gave me the option of flower husbands which was absolutely not going to be passed up, as well as the prompt of Arranged Marriage AU. Since I just so happen to already have an arranged marriage au for them, I figured I may as well put some effort into actually showing it off since, despite my very long google doc of plot chicanery, I haven't actually drawn much for it or otherwise got much of anything to show for it.

The real trick here was balancing the angst and fluff. There was no way I wasn't getting out of this without, any angst. The problem was actually finding a suitable amount of fluff to balance this out lol. I knew I wanted to draw their wedding, since that's the whole base of the au and it directly emphasizes your request. The problem is that within the au, these two don’t really get to anywhere that's especially fluffy till weeks if not months after their wedding lol. That’s how I eventually settled on a kind of “before and after” of their relationship. 

Mirroring their less than favourable wedding day and first meeting with the renewal of vows they do near the end of their journey within my plot. Where they choose, despite already being stuck together, to have meaning behind their marriage.

Below the cut I’m gonna ramble about the lore  important to this piece from the au. Enjoy :]

Okay so first off- their “vows”! Instead of exchanging rings my idea is that the Ocean Empire and Rivendell each have a different giving for their wedding ceremonies.

Merlings have a selkie inspired pelt. Its technically their old skin. Young merlings are much more creature esq, and as they grow they grow out of that skin into a more humanoid form. However they tend to keep their pelts since they are pretty durable and are good for young merlings to protect themselves with and camouflage in the depths. As merlings continue to grow out of even that stage, their pelts become sentimental. kept close to their hearts. The lose of the plt is like a severing of oneself from their soul or heart. Its important for their mental health that they know where their pelt is and that is is safe. They’re not typically handled by people you don’t trust.

Which is why it is traditional that merling will trade pelts with their lover at their wedding. Its imbuing this trust that their partner will give the pelt back. As well it is a symbol of love and  soul, metaphorically giving that devotion and adoration to their partner.

Elves meanwhile are a type of fae. The rules I use for elves names are adjacent but not directly the same as other fae, such as the faeries of the overgrown. Elven names hold power over the individual still, but its far less than what a faerie might hold. It more a social power than anything else. Elves keep public and personal names. These “true” personal names can only be chosen by the elf themself. They are only given to people who you trust absolutely. May that be family, longtime friends, or lovers. Its not uncommon in Rivendell for lovers to not share their true names until their wedding day, though even if they have the vows are much the same. Giving their spouse the gift of their name, to use as they please. This is done both out of trust (much like the merlings pelts), trusting their lovers not to hurt them with their name. And more importantly it offers devotion to your spouse, which would be returned of course.

Now when it comes to Flower Husbands... this all falls apart. These two have not had a real conversation till their vows. They have no trust or love for one another, and are in fact quite afraid of each other. Neither want to give over something so terrifyingly precious to the other. 

Jimmy feels pressured to do so, despite Lizzie insisting he doesn’t have to, because he knows how a wedding should go. He knows the citizens of the Ocean Empire do not trust that his mother, The Empress, has made the right choice in allowing this marriage to go through. He knows if he doesn’t do his best to make this look and feel legit for them, then they’ll only have more problems in the future. And he really is trying to be responsible, trying to prove himself to his family and his kingdoms that he can do the right thing. He isn’t just the prince, the second born. He is loved by his country, deeply so, but nothing is expected of him. He wants to do one good thing for them in turn. Hell, he volunteered himself so that his sister wouldn’t throw away her preexisting courtship. He loves his family and his country, and he has never been asked to do a thing for them. He just wants to prove he can.

So he drapes his pelt over Scotts shoulders, careful and with the sudden understanding of how badly it hurts to see. How easily being separated from it would destroy him. And he can only hope Scott will return it soon.

Scott meanwhile doesn’t believe in another choice. He is the Chosen Champion of Aeor, god of Winter and Stasis. He is a representative of tradition for Rivendell. As much as he is fuming about the marriage, he has rarely acted out in his life. The golden child for so much of his adolescence that even when that love has left he knows little more than to hold his tongue and obey... for now. Still, he knows what is expected of him for the wedding. And despite there being no way for his family or the citizens to verify he abided by tradition in this instance, he is loyal enough to his god (and in fact fairly knows his god perceives him and he would know he wronged him) to not try and get around it. 

So he gives his name, as coldly and objectively as he can. It is not a gift, but Jimmy, traditionally, has a right to it through their union. He can only pray Jimmy be kind with it.

Ultimately both spouses are careless with their exchange. Scott misunderstands the importance of the pelt, and keeps it far to long. Jimmy misunderstand the weight of Scotts name, and speaks it carelessly. Its rough, and terrifying. But it leads them to understanding, to finding common ground and for the first time finding hope in their situation as they understand the other not as an enemy but as the only ally in the same situation as them.

Finally I’m gonna do a quick run through of details I was happy with, kinda lore relevant but with less flowery language on the plot.

At their wedding both are dressed in traditional wedding garb for their empires, as well I’ve referenced my board loosely to dress the crowd properly. Rivendell brides/grooms tend to wear white. It represents purity, white is typically only worn in formal settings o it wont be dirties anyways, and it doesn't represent either individual god. Allowing neutrality. Jimmy is wearing a loose cut deep blue outfit with small decorative. Dark colours but especially deep blues are traditional as they connect with both the deep waters and the sky, tying an individual throughout to the world and their life.

In their renewal of vows they wear nearly the same outfits, however Jimmy sports some golden Rivendell jewelry and Scott in turn sports some pearls in his hair much like how Jimmy had at their wedding. Its about the sharing <33

Wedding day was very formal, very controlled. Both of their hair pulled back and styled in very proper traditional ways. At their vow renewal everything was up to them, so Jimmy looks a bit more like himself (as messy as that may be) and Scott has both his kingship and his hair cut (lore) so he’s a feeling a lot more stable

Scotts wears gloves at his wedding, vs without gloves at renewal! Tied in, at his wedding Scotts hair and skin is patterned with growing frost as he gets cold feet (hah) and is very upset about the situation versus his renewals where he has much more control of his powers and very explicitly happy with the situation

Avatar: The Last Airbender - post show-era. the gaang grows up. They figure out how to navigate being famous and/or how to be leaders. Aang, Zuko and Katara figure out that what they really want is to be a functional triad, OT3 style. Will also take just Aang and Zuko in this situation, but only if Katara is dealt with well as well. Sokka and Toph have awesome sex with each other. Will take standalones of them too.

Voltron - Lance/Keith, includes all the other pilots/crew functioning as a family. For a while I had an idea . of Keith coming back down to earth a few years after everyone else and them all being reunited at a lakehouse where Shiro is spending his well-earned retirement building boats or some shit, but I could never get it right. And honestly I’ll take anything.

MCU - ignores/glosses over/only cherry picks from Ultron and Civil War. Doesn’t ignore Bruce’s awesome girlfriend from the Hulk movie no one cares about. Good good team-as-family content. doesn’t demonize or sideline any of the core main cast

Natasha/Clint with Clint’s characterization/backstory coming mostly from the Matt Fraction comics. 

Steve/Bucky where they learn how to navigate the 21st century together while occasionally fighting bad guys. to be fair i know this one’s been done well at least once or twice but I want more of it.

Critical Role: Campagin 2 - Caleb/Mollymauk. team as family stuff (or working toward that, because that’s how these idiots are), slow burn?, can either include current Iron Shepherds arc, be fixit fic for it, or ignore it altogether, doesn’t matter to me. must be extremely in character.

Harry Potter - Harry/Draco. Post Hogwarts. Ignores the epilogue. novel-length. Weasleys are family. Harry figures out how to be a person again. Again, i know it’s been done well before, but a bitch is hungry and needs more.

Pacific Rim - Newton/Hermann. literally just anything of them bickering and pining after each other until they fall in love. could be pre, during, or post film. just have a decent buildup to it. will also take Mako/Raleigh pwp but not necessary.

there’s probably more but i can’t think of any because it’s 3am but litereally, just....y’all have good decent-length shipfic with good buildup you want to throw my way? i’ll take old fandoms, or shit you think I might not care about as well. i’m dying here.

What about you all? Do you have any particular fic-reading quirks, pet peeves or wants that the universe refuses to accommodate? Any poor dead fandom/pairing you’d love to resurrect from the graveyards of ff.net (side note: mine is inuyasha, and i would 100% read good fic of that in the year of our lord 2k18)? My current thoughts on Ace Attorney’s Future

So by now you are most likely aware of the recent Ace Attorney news Capcom put out, and also some stuff that’s been leaked, ill give a brief rundown before going into my thoughts in case you missed it(excuse the poor grammar , I didn’t have that much time to spell check lol)

-Capcom has announced that Ace Attorney games will be moving to the switch and that they will be releasing one between April 2018-April 2019

-Leaks from Kotaku UK: First half of next year will have two Switch releases of compilations, one for AA123, other AA456. And a third brand new game feat. Phoenix Wright will release before April  2019 worldwide launch for Switch and smartphones

(ALSO take this with a grain of salt like all leaks, im just more trusting with this once since I don’t Kotaku would try and fake AA news since it is a niche series and there isn’t that much to gain from it, and the person leaking has been correct with that huge Mario Rabbids leak)

Now this news came outta nowhere but here are my brief (not really lol )thoughts on them

-Ace Attorney Games no more on 3ds

This was always in the cards, given franchises like Pokemon, moving away from it and the Switch’s mobility. It was very good of them to announce that they still plan on releasing new games for Ace Attorney and that the series isn’t over in my opinion . 

I personally thought that if AA7 came out on the 3ds it would be the last one in the franchise, like no more AA afterwards(I expand on this below). 

But this Switch news made me reconsider that theory, as now I believe Capcom is going to keep on pumping them out because the profits they make on it must be pretty decent in their eyes., like the cost of making them must not be as expensive as we would believe.  So expect some “brand new” plotlines that will be expanded upon in AA8 etc

-Compilations

Very smart move given the next news on AA7. AA6 led to a big issue, in that, you probably wouldn’t enjoy the game as much if you never played the first 5. If they just released AA7 on the Switch straight away, they would be assuming every switch owner has played the other 6 AA games, so this would at least bring everyone up to speed. 

Given some stuff I go into further below, I would be thinking, Capcom would be looking into the sales of these very closely in regards to DGS and AAi2…

-what about AJ on 3ds

Apollo Justice is still coming to the 3ds at the end of the month, and now im thinking, what is the point? The above leak is actually incredibly damaging to sales for this as most people can just wait for the compilation on the Switch to then play it. 

There are ofc people who don’t have a switch (like me) and some who want to play AJ on the 3ds but I feel like this leak has made a few people reconsider their purchase of AJ (which is gunna do so much damage to Capcom’s sales forecast for that game…. :/ ). 

Like you know how quiet the AA twitter is usually, they might have announced the compilations early next year after people already bought it (and maybe that might have angered a few more people to rebuy it again lol)

-Featuring Phoenix Wright

Now ill try and keep this spoiler free but the “feat. Feenie” leaves a big question, where is Apollo? Does that mean all 5 cases are playing as Phoenix? Dlc cases with Apollo? Or are they going to release an Apollo game later (because in an interview for SoJ, they were toying with the idea of SoJ being two separate full games like Pokemon Red and Blue, where one only with Phoenix, and the other only with Apollo). So maybe a game featuring just Apollo in 2019? 

Now im not sure what the reaction to that is on this site, but I know a lot of people on Twitter have been rolling their eyes that the whole game is once again only Phoenix, when they feel his story is done. Me personally, I don’t really mind, as I view AA456 Phoenix as a different character to AA123, so im happy there’s at least an AA7 game coming, regardless of who you play as. 

Earlier I mentioned how I thought AA7 would be the final AA game ever if it was on the 3ds, and with that I was thinking it would be the biggest fanservice game ever (like Gumshoe, Kay, Franziska coming back, and other past characters returning in the biggest best(est) sendoff ever, like maybe even a dlc case where you play as Edgeworth with Kay helping and gumshoe, Franziska all there, and like the crime scenes being old places but with new twists, and just finalising every plotpoint ever (Iris and Kay where are you??). 

But since it ISNT the final game, I think it will be kind of like Dual Destinies, instead of answering questions, they will pose new ones, and introduce even more new characters to the already bloated cast which im not too happy about. Prepare for a new colourful Maya clone that has a new gameplay ability to turn the tide in court! (I still love Athena mmmmmk?),  Also, wanna bet that one dialogue we want between Phoenix, Trucy and Apollo about a certain relationship wont be revealed til postgame AGAIN? :P

-Worldwide launch

This is probably the ABSOLUTE BEST NEWS to come out of all of this. No longer will we need to wait through the months, wondering if we bought enough copies to make them consider localizing. Now we can play them game at the same time as Japan! Although with this series, I never had a big issue with spoilers unlike Danganronpa, like people weren’t going out of their way to spoil SoJ like they did with V3. But its stil great news that we know that AA7 will be coming west!

-Digital

-The switch has a big digital only library, -games are not tied to your console anymore, -they are tied to your account, so if you Switch dies, -you wont lose the games purchase. SO yes I do think all 3 of the Switch games will be digital only, this is clearly the route Capcom wants for us westerners and I don’t think anything short of a miracle in sales will change that :(

-Smartphones

Now this is an issue for me personally. Hearing AA7 being on the switch made me so happy, as it opens up the endless possibilities to the gameplay. 

SoJ had so many improvements to character model movements and what they did with the 3ds hardware. So thinking a Switch only AA7 game would be amazing in terms of what they could do with the models, UI, gameplay etc.

 Deep down I always wished Capcom would try and be like Spike Chunsoft and add extra gameplay to their visual novel hybrids, like danganronpa. As in, its honestly absurd at how much extra content is in v3 considering they are both just murder mystery VNs, and they is clearly no reason for them to add so much extra content. Like AA has never even had post game content at all, so maybe on the switch they can try some things like danganronpa, like an AU mode, or some silly board game thing, just stuff that doesn’t harm the main story, but is nice for diehard fans to keep opening up the game. 

HOWEVER since its apparently on mobile I don’t think any of that will happen. Yes Im happy people who like mobile gaming can play it, and yes not everyone can afford consoles, and yes phones are like mini computers these days in terms of power. But from Capcom’s point of view, if they want to sell it to as many people as possible, they need to consider a lot of people will still have old phones, so trying anything amazing in gameplay features might not work on an old phone, leading to loss of sales in the mobile side. And we all know how much Capcom likes money. So personally im disappointed but not that much, this is just a deep feeling ive always wanted from AA, just more in game content and extra things to do. And seeing how SoJ improved SO MUCH on the DD models, I just wanted them to go even beyond that. But hey maybe now at least they can do 3d models for investigating and pretend its an investigation game , RIP Kay’s return :’)

-localizedgs and aai2

And ofc the usual, LOCALIZE DGS AND AAI2. Considering all the news, and given how poorly Marvel vs Capcom Infinite sold(it’s actually shocking at how bad it sold, maybe because no Phoenix in it? :P ), and how long it took for RE7 to reach its sales goal(1.5years), I don’t think DGS will ever be localized, at least not for a few more years. The cost of licensing to Sir Arthur Conan Doyles Estate is clearly too much for Capcom to release an even more niche game than AA(the average person will see it doesn’t have Feenie and wont buy it). 

HOWEVER given their love of compilations and ports recently, there is STILL a chance they will port a DGS1&2 game to the switch, maybe around 2020. This being after they see the sales to the first 2 compilations. So don’t buy Battlefront 2 and support bad lootbox behaviour, save that money to buy AA on the switch ;) And regarding AAi2, look im probably the biggest fan who wants a new AAI3 more than AA7 (I even made a video about it lol), but considering AA7 will be made by the AAi team, that aint happening. Now all hope would be lost, if not for the simple fact that, in 2017, just recently, AAi had an encore stage play performance in Japan . Meaning even though this play ran last year, they had enough demand to do it again this year. So Capcom clearly has some plans with Miles and crew, and hopefully if the compilations sell well, they will make a Switch port of AAi and AAi2, and hopefully Kay will live once more! :P

-Takumi

And finally to the man himself, Shu Takumi(creator of AA if you didn’t know). After spending time making DGS 1 and 2,  and with how poor their sales were, I don’t think there will be a DGS3. And I don’t think he will come back for AA7 (if it was the final game like my earlier theory, I was hoping he would come back for some fanservice lol, like he would bring his charm back and work it on the new characters which might have been fun). This is disappointing as his writing with the characters is on another level compared to the new games . 

E.g play SoJ and the professor Layton crossover game, back to back, and notice how different the dialogue is with Phoenix and Maya. Takumi (who wrote the Layton game) clearly understands his characters so well, and you can feel Maya and Phoenix’s personality just flow seamlessly with each other, like the professor game honestly felt like a case from the trilogy even though I played it waaaay later.  He has stated he is done with the main line AA games(iirc), and how he would hate making more cases than needed (like him not wanting to make the fifth case in AA1 when Capcom first localized it, since the GBA game had only 4 cases and Capcom wanted him to make one more case to sell again). So I don’t think he will make AA7 or DGS3, which means HOPEFULLY he is free to make what he wants, and we can get another amazing separate game like Ghost Trick ANYWAY that’s been my rambleeeeeeeeeeee

TL;DR Ace Attorney isn’t dead, Capcom loves the franchise but not as much as you want, please buy the compilation ports, even if you have the games, money speaks to this company that runs our favourite game franchise :/

And final silly point: I don’t have a Nintendo Switch, Zelda BOTW, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon2, FE Warriors didn’t convince me to buy a Switch. I will now be buying a Switch for AA7, THIS SERIES WILL BE THE END OF MEEEEEEEEEEE

Keith finally lets his fist go, and out it all pours.“I know!” He roars. Sharp defence, cutting through clean like his bayard. Despite not being on the receiving end of the words, Hunk is the one that flinches.“Keith.” Shiro’s voice is low and serious, momentarily quelling the rage in Keith’s veins. Oh shoot. Stepping back, the green paladin hums. She seems relatively unfazed, as if expecting that kind of reaction. Keith realises then, that was a test. Damn.“Everyone here cares about Lance.” she says carefully, clearly cataloguing newfound information. Keith quickly scrambles for words only nothing comes out because no. He understands perfectly what she’s reading between these lines and Pidge has it wrong she must have it wrong. Keith cares; he does. He cares about Voltron. And by extension, he cares for his team. It's as simple as that. Or so he tells himself.“He shouldn’t have left-” abort abort that’s too open-ended. “-I mean. We can’t form Voltron without Lance.” ---------- Keith reacts to Lance taking of with Nyma; the scenes we didn’t get to see. Aka Keith doesn’t know how to deal with feelings. ------------------------------------------------- in stasis by ilgaksu :  The story starts like this: with a story where you think you know the end, until it turns out you don’t, until it turns out you didn’t have a clue.  -  In which for three months of Lance McClain's life, he lives as an AI, waiting for his prosthetics to come online. It goes about as well as expected. ---------- I’m normally not very emotional but damn. Lance’s wish of being uploaded into a giant space ship when he goes is granted when no one knows if he will survive, his body being stuck on life support. ------------------------------------------------- It's Mutual (Follow Back Already) by JessicaMDawn :  At twenty-four, Keith decides to figure out what this 'tumblr' thing is. It's confusing at first, but Keith learns to have fun with it with help from a few new friends. AKA Keith's adventures on tumblr. ---------- This fic was funny and sweet and is partly told through “tumblr-posts”. I was always so happy when it updated because it brightens your day, a little bit.

------------------------------------------------- Infection by 5557 :  While exploring an alien planet, Lance is nearly killed by a mysterious monster. Now he's convinced that he is infected with an alien sickness. Why doesn't anyone believe him? It must be Keith's fault.  ---------- The Lance-voice in this fic is SO GOOD and it’s a perfect blend of terrifyingly sad and ridiculously funny. The scenes are very vivid and I got super into it, making it one of my absolute favourites. Warning: Body Horror and Sickness ------------------------------------------------- For the Soul by kali_asleep : Her eyes are glued to the glowing screen in front of her as she, with surgical precision, cuts straight to the muscle of the matter: “I'm a scientist, not a love life counselor. Tell Lance to quit being a baby and drag his congested ass to a healing pod.” Lance is sick. Keith isn't sure how to help.  ---------- I don’t usually go for sickfics but what I love is something being completely different than what I expected. This story is mostly about Keith and his relationship with all the paladins minus shiro as he tries to figure out how to care for a sick person with no first person experience ------------------------------------------------- Pluto by bluepaladiiin : The first time Keith sees Lance as an actual good human being, and not just an annoying voice constantly echoing in his head, is surprisingly not when he saves Coran from the explosion on the castle. No matter how heroic and big that one moment was, it wasn’t the first thing that alerted Keith’s heart that it may be in more trouble than it had previously calculated. Or, Keith is realising that Lance is not just jokes on the inside. Everyone has hidden depths, even the most shallow of people. ---------- This entire series are great, but I love this fic especially. The writing is so beautiful. ------------------------------------------------- house on fire by ilgaksu : When Lance McClain is eighteen, he qualifies for the Olympics. When he's nineteen, he meets Keith. It also has everyone as olympic athletes in different sports and talks a bit about being an LGBT-person in the publics eye. ------------------------------------------------- Garden of Beginnings by needchocolatenow : Hunk gets a criminal record, Pidge might have blackmail on Keith, and Shiro's wondering what happened to his shirt. Keith and Lance fall into each other's orbits and keep falling. ---------- They do laundry, develop feelings, and get space-chickens. Not necessarily in that order. This is the slice-of-life fic from the castle we all deserve. ------------------------------------------------- Smile For The Stars by maIikcutie : Though he's been dealt many bad cards, Lance isn't sure he can handle this one: winding up stranded, a million lightyears away from home, with only Keith to keep him company. The universe is cruel. ---------- This fic is incredibly well written and there is so many feelings going on that is never outright mentioned but just masterfully described until you feel it with them. Also the realness of the horrifying situation they are in, I almost read this entire fic in one sitting. I’m not usually a crier but this story had me BAWLING in a way I’ve rarely if ever done before. Warning: Major character death ------------------------------------------------- your favorite ghosts and planets by xShieru : In hindsight, an asthma attack in the middle of the day wasn’t such a terrible way to give up the ghost. Except this isn't how he imagined afterlife. An AU about being dead. ---------- Usually I stay away from ghost fics because it’s just too darn sad, somewhere, but this one got a twist. It’s funny, sweet, only the right amount of sad and everything you’d wish for. ------------------------------------------------- he ain't heavy, he's your brother (okay, maybe he's a little heavy) by JadenGrace1 :  Keith goes to Shiro for advice on how to ask Lance out to the Winter Formal and brotherly stuff happens. ---------- In the end this is the type of story I love the most; they are family and they love each other wholeheartedly. Also they are absolutely ridiculous. (There’s Shallura too but both of them are only mentioned, focus on Shiro & Keith as brothers)

KEITH/HUNK/LANCE

There's a love I've been keeping inside; by kirargent : Keith thinks, utterly certain of himself: Lance likes him, too. Lance likes Hunk, too. And that’s just fucking annoying. Leave it to Lance to make Keith’s life even more complicated. ---------- This story is wonderful. Lance’s self confidence issues stab you right in the heart. Lots and lots of pining from all directions.

(Me. Me, I do.)

This fic is really beautifully told. About how Allura learns about earth customs, and how they differ from Altean. I like how it point focus on the fact that she is not human.

------------------------------------------------- Androcles by Braincoins :  If Shiro’s not going to confess his feelings to Allura, then Black will take matters into her own paws. ---------- This fic is told entirely from the perspective of the black lion and if a giant mechanical lion using their  point of view of how to get close to someone by making their paladin all sweaty so their chosen one will have to wash them doesn’t make you smile, you don’t understand the beauty that is this fic

It’s brilliant and you should all read it. (There’s Klance too)
