(CNN) — What was supposed to be a 10-hour journey to the Titanic shipwreck ended in tragedy, with all five passengers on the missing submersible killed in a catastrophic implosion.
Their deaths were confirmed Thursday, concluding a week-long search for survivors that was closely watched around the world.
The US Navy detected a sound that would match an implosion on Sunday, the day it went missing, and search teams have since found fragments of the Titan submersible, confirming those on board have perished.
But many questions still remain as authorities continue searching for debris, including when the implosion happened and what exactly went wrong with the sub.
Here’s what we know so far.
What is a catastrophic implosion?
An underwater implosion refers to the sudden inward collapse of the vessel, which would have been under immense pressure at the depths it was diving toward.
It’s unclear where or how deep the Titan was when the implosion occurred, but the Titanic wreck sits nearly 13,000 feet (almost 4,000 meters) below sea level.
The submersible was about 1 hour and 45 minutes into the roughly 2 hour descent when it lost contact.
Tumblr media
At the depth the Titanic rests, there is around 5,600 pounds per square inch of pressure – several hundred times the pressure we experience on the surface, according to Rick Murcar, the international training director at the National Association of Cave Divers.
A catastrophic implosion is “incredibly quick,” taking place within just a fraction of a millisecond, said Aileen Maria Marty, a former Naval officer and professor at Florida International University.
“The entire thing would have collapsed before the individuals inside would even realize that there was a problem,” she told CNN. “Ultimately, among the many ways in which we can pass, that’s painless.”
Experts say it is unlikely any bodies will be recovered.
The US Coast Guard said Thursday it will continue the search in an effort to recover what it can but warned it was “an incredibly unforgiving environment down there on the sea floor.”
What’s next for the search effort?
Besides searching for the passengers, authorities will also continue to search the sea floor in hopes of discovering more information about what led to the implosion.
It will take time to put together a specific timeline of events, the US Coast Guard said Thursday, calling the underwater environment “incredibly complex.”
So far, they have located the Titan’s nose cone and one end of its pressure hulls in a large debris field, and the other end of the pressure hull in a second, smaller debris field.
“What they would do now is go back to that site and, like cookie crumbs, try to find a trail as to where that would lead,” said Tom Maddox, CEO of Underwater Forensic Investigators, who took part in a Titanic expedition in 2005.
He added that the debris pieces could still be “slightly buoyant” and be carried further away by ocean currents.
“So the big project right now is going to be trying to collect those parts,” he said.
“They’ll mark them, they’ll indicate where they were, and they’ll lay out a map of where those parts were found.”
What is the timeline of the disaster?
Tumblr media
The expedition set out from Newfoundland, Canada, on June 16, with the Polar Prince support ship carrying participants to the site of the Titanic wreck.
Then on Sunday, June 18, the five passengers began the dive in the submersible, launched from the support ship, which remained on the surface.
They began the dive around 9 a.m., with their last communication to the surface at 11:47 a.m, according to Miawpukek Maritime Horizon Services, which co-owns the Polar Prince.
They were expected to resurface at 6:10 p.m. but were not seen; authorities were notified at 6:35 p.m. and the rescue operations launched, according to Maritime Horizon.
There seemed to be a brief window of hope after reports emerged that search teams on Tuesday heard banging every 30 minutes, though they were unable to locate the source of the noise.
But the submersible had only been equipped with 96 hours of oxygen, setting Thursday as a key target to locate and retrieve the submersible.
By Thursday afternoon, authorities confirmed the submersible had imploded, saying there does not seem to be a connection between the banging noises and where the debris was found.
A senior US Navy official told CNN the noises were likely some form of natural life or sounds given off by other ships and vessels that were part of the search effort.
It’s still not clear when exactly the vessel may have imploded.
The Navy detected a sound that was “consistent” with an implosion on Sunday, but it was determined to be “not definitive,” so the search for survivors or remains of the vessel continued.
The US Coast Guard said on Thursday it had set up sonar buoys in the water for at least the last 72 hours – meaning from at least Monday onward – but they did not record any sign of an implosion.
Who was on board?
Tumblr media
The five men on board included the CEO of the tour operator, a British businessman, a renowned French diver, and a Pakisatani billionaire and his son.
OceanGate Expeditions, the Titan’s operator, said Thursday it believed CEO Stockton Rush and the other passengers to be “lost,” adding that the company’s employees were “exhausted and grieving deeply over this loss.”
Rush, 61, founded OceanGate in 2009 with a stated mission of “increasing access to the deep ocean through innovation.”
In a series of interviews, Rush said he believes deeply that the sea, rather than the sky, offers humanity the best shot at survival when the Earth’s surface becomes uninhabitable.
As CEO, Rush, who graduated from Princeton in 1984 with a degree in aerospace engineering, oversaw the company’s “financial and engineering strategies” and provides a “vision for development” of crewed submersibles, according to his bio.
But in his eagerness to explore, Rush often appeared skeptical, if not dismissive, of regulations that might slow innovation.
British businessman and adventurer Hamish Harding was also on board.
Based in the United Arab Emirates, he was the chairman of Action Aviation, an aircraft brokerage – but was better known for his various expeditions.
He was part of a flight crew that broke the world record for the fastest circumnavigation of the globe via both poles;
He was one of the first people to dive to the Challenger Deep in the Pacific Ocean, widely believed to be the deepest point in the world’s oceans;
He went to space on the Blue Origin flight; and
He was part of two record-breaking trips to the South Pole.
French diver Paul-Henri “PH” Nargeolet had decades of experience exploring the Titanic.
He served as the director of underwater research at RMS Titanic Inc., the company that has exclusive rights to salvage artifacts from the ship.
According to his biography on the company’s website, Nargeolet completed 35 dives to the Titanic wreck and supervised the recovery of 5,000 artifacts.
He also spent 22 years in the French Navy.
In a statement, his family called him one of the greatest deep-sea explorers in history, adding:
“But what we will remember him most for is his big heart, his incredible sense of humor and how much he loved his family.”
Lastly, Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman Dawood, were from a prominent Pakistani business family.
Dawood Hercules Corp., their business, is among the largest corporations in the country, with a portfolio spanning energy, petrochemicals, fertilizers, information technology, and food and agriculture.
In a statement online, the family patriarch Hussain Dawood and his wife, Kulsum Dawood, said:
“Please continue to keep the departed souls and our family in your prayers during this difficult period of mourning.”

Mystery at Magnolia Gardens (Day 2)
WARNING, THIS GAMEPLAY CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM THE GAME "Mystery at Magnolia Gardens". READ AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION !!!
Day 2 (July 17th 2022)
Left you on a cliffhanger last time hehe 😎 Anyways, let's continue.
Tumblr media
So, last time we finished on the post-it puzzle for the tin box. Our result was 681 and lo and behold, it worked. I can finally opened the tin box *.* What's inside you may ask ?... Well my little oompa loompas, there's scraps of papers. Yep, just scraps of freakin papers dammit ! XD Erg !!
Tumblr media
I empty the box; but wait, there's more 😮 lol. It's a huge ring that doesn't fit my tiny fingers. XD And that's pretty much it lol. It's a quite beautiful ring in my opinion. Bronze colored with a drawing of 3 roses. It kinda looks like a wax stamp. You know, those things you use to seal an envelope with.
Tumblr media
NOW, the scraps of paper are like a puzzle so, lets get to that right away. As I'm placing all the pieces, I noticed some of them have pink stains. So the person who wrote this paper is probably our culprit and is also a freakin pig or just doesn't know how to be subtle for shits. XD I mean come on, you're going to incriminate yourself, the least you could do is wash your freakin hand or watch whatever the hell you're doing. lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyways, I started grouping the pieces, starting with the ones that have a margin. So, all the ones with a pink line like a regular lined paper sheet. Then, the ones with a space at the top and went on with the different handwritings. I made them stick together with scotch tape, which is not the best idea with my tremors, because, holly shit did this take for freakin ever. XD Took me 3 hours to finish both of them to be exact. 😤
Tumblr media
Finally managed to put them all together, and ended up with 2 sheets of paper, with 2 different handwritings. So, that leaves me to believe that there maybe 2 culprits ? And also, that both of them are not very clean people since I CAN'T SEEM TO WRAP MY HEAD AROUND WHY THE HELL YOU WOULDN'T WASH YOU FREAKIN HANDS BEFORE GRABBING A GAD DAMNED WHITE PEICE OF PAPER !!! XD Those are some very sussy bakas we've got here. And I'm putting emphasis on BAKA. XD
Tumblr media
Anyways, since this took me a lifetime to put together and since my back is killing me like a bitch, I really don't feel like reading whatever the hell it says. My brain cannot compute anymore, especially that late at night (It was almost 2 am XD). But hey, at least we're getting somewhere ! XD So yeah, fuck this, I'm going to bed. lol Nighty night !!

NCIS: Roy Pt. 1
Tumblr media
You can't remember the last time you had a peaceful sleep.
Maybe since you've been sleeping in your lab all day, trying to find a cure for your friend, Roy.
Roy Sanders, the golden Navy Lieutenant. You often teased him about how he was like Superman with his righteous personality and piercing blue eyes. He just laughed it as he gave you his blinding smile.
He still smiled even when someone close to his work tried to poison him.
It started off small, thought he had a fever and just needed to rest. He had to stop jogging his route near the capital. But one night, he came to your door, eyes bloodshot as he lost his breath.
"I don't trust anyone but you."
He confided in you about the work he was investigating in and that someone in his agency is trying murder him as he got closer in his investigation. You told him he should go to NCIS himself to help him, and stop the person who's doing this to him.
"Let's go to my lab, I'll figure out what's going on with a blood sample and I'll find a cure."
"No don't, I'll go to NCIS tomorrow. They'll help me."
"Roy, you can barely keep your eyes open. What makes you think I'm going to stand idly and watch you die?"
"Because I don't want you blaming yourself that you couldn't save me in time!" He raised his voice.
It was the first time you ever see him so angry, but he was right. You would have blamed yourself every day that you're the one breathing and he wasn't.
"I have to at least try."
He pondered till he nodded his head, agreeing that you would help him. He knew you would go against the laws of science just so he could have a future.
Now you're at your lab, waiting for the test results if your serum could deteriorate the Thallium that was in his bloodstream. You consulted with Abby Sciuto, the forensic scientist at NCIS, and compared notes.
She saw how determined you were to save your friend, but she knew deep down there was more than what you were saying.
You loved Roy.
Ever since you moved to DC, Roy was the first friend you made when you met him at a conference. You loved how positive he was and made every effort to make a difference in the world.
Then suddenly, you heard a beeping noise from the machine that was formulating if the serum was working. You flutter your eyes in confusion till you rush over, looking at the paper that printed the results. You scanned over the stats, muttering what the results were telling you.
You look up from the paper and raced towards your phone, dialing Abby's phone number.
"Abby, I need your help."
+
Your heels clicked loudly in the hallway as you searched for Roy's room. Then, you see Ziva outside of a door, looking at everyone suspiciously.
"Hi, Ziva? I'm-"
"The doctor friend of Lieutenant Sanders. Yes, Abby informed me."
"Then you know that I have the antidote." You said, holding the protective case that held the vials.
"Has it been tested before?" she asks.
"Not exactly-"
"Doctor, I don't doubt your work but if it's not tested, I cannot allow you to worsen Lieutenant Sander's state." Ziva replied, trying for you to step aside.
"Ziva please! Wouldn't you do anything to save the person you love? I have to do this. Either I give him this serum without knowing whether he's going to live or see him slowly die without even trying." You said, your voice thinning.
Ziva looks at you, seeing how much you cared for Roy.
"Alright, I'll call his doctors to help administer the medicine."
She stepped aside as she went to look for them and you look through the window seeing Roy.
He looked paler and even tired and looked... looked like he was just waiting to die. You turn the knob and you walked quietly inside while he slept. You sat in the chair, feeling your palms clammy, trying to calm your nerves.
"You know, I think I have to buy you quieter shoes." Roy said.
You look up and see Roy awake.
"You knew that was me?"
"People could hear your heels in the hall from Canada." Roy joked, making you laugh.
You scoot closer as you hold his hand.
"How are you?"
He shrugs slightly as he gives you a small smile.
"Tired, but I feel I have a few good days in me."
"Don't say that, Roy. You're going to get better." You said.
"All the doctors have told me that I'm not going to live past this month. It's too late now. I've already accepted it, so should you."
You shake your head, feeling the tears go down your face.
"So me being confined in my lab to find a cure for you was for nothing, Roy? I'm not giving up on you like every goddamn doctor in this hospital. You prove them wrong. You're going to walk out of this hospital with a second chance of life. You're going to run your daily morning jogs you've desperately wanted me to join with you."
Roy chuckles, remebering that you'd refuse to wake up at 4 in the morning to run around D.C.
He then turns his head, his eyes growing with doubt and worry.
"I'm dead weight. You need- to move on. Settle down, get a dog, and have that white picket fence life. You should let me go." He said, saying this last part with a whisper.
"I can't do that, Roy."
"Why?"
"Because I- I love you goddamnit." You said, raising your voice.
He was silent, and you stood up, pacing in the small room.
"You know, it was hard to just keep my feelings by myself for the longest time. But I was scared that- that I was going to lose my best friend... whether if I told you how I felt or this-" You gestured around you.
"and I know you don't feel the same way-"
"Who said I didn't?" He asks.
You stop, looking at him by the foot of the bed.
"I'm sorry?"
He chuckles lightly, giving you a cheesy smirk.
"You know, for someone who brags about being the smartest person in the room, you really can't see the answer in front of you."
He tried sitting up, but his strength gave out, so you rushed to his side as you helped him.
"Guess I was scared too of saying something. I trust you with my life but I couldn't have the guts to ask you out."
For some reason, both of you began to laugh at yourselves.
"What is it with us?" You said, sitting on the side of his bed.
"I don't know, but we have impeccable timing." He said, placing his hand on his side. You reached out and intertwined his hand with yours.
Suddenly, Ziva came in with his doctors looking a bit grim.
"It's time for the trial"
After the doctors did the procedure, you cuddled with Roy before heading to sleep. Even if visitors should have left hours ago, Ziva pulled some strings. She was happy to see Roy more hopeful than ever.
Both of you were trying to stay awake, having so much to talk about, but your eyes kept fluttering.
"Promise me... you'll wake up with me in the morning." You whispered.
Roy wasn't so sure of making an empty promise, as the warnings for the antidote would either be a 50/50 chance. But he kissed your temple as he held you in his arms.
"I promise I'll be right here."
Both of you dozed off that night, and both of you were filled with uncertainty and fear.
But one thing is for sure.
Roy would fight for one more day if he could spend it with you.

The Strange Disappearance of Runaway Justin Pollari
Tumblr media
March 16, 2024
In 2001, 14 year old Justin Pollari ran away from his home in Hilton Beach, Ontario, Canada. He has never been seen since.
Many youth run away from home, but most are found soon after. In 2018, 92% of missing children in Canada were found within one week.
Justin's photo was shown a lot. Posters all across Canada were put on bulletin boards, transport trucks, ect. Some believe that if the authorities took the case more seriously earlier on, Justin would have been found. Many do not take runaways seriously at first, as they think they will make contact with loved ones shortly.
Justin Pollari was born on January 31, 1987. His parents divorced when he was a baby, and he was living with his father, John and stepmother, Janis McLeod at the time of his disappearance. He had dyed black hair that he would wear in a Mohawk. Justin had two earrings in his left ear. He was known as a troubled child, never doing well in school and struggled with his parents divorce.
On December 7, 2001, Justin came home upset. He had been in a fight and his lip was cut. It was reported that he had admitted to being in this fight, however he later denied it. He was very angry and it was reported that he had even lunged at his father.
A couple hours later, Justin left the house with his skateboard and backpack that had a few clothes in it. He was wearing dark blue or black baggy pants, a dark blue or black hooded sweater, and a black toque over his 6 inch Mohawk. He had red or burgundy running shoes on.
Justin had run away from home one other time, but had gone to a friends house and returned the next day. It is unclear why he left when he did and wanted to runaway, if that was even the plan.
In the first few years, many sightings of Justin were reported. Some claimed to have seen him in a shelter in Toronto. Another person said someone matching Justin's description introduced himself as "J."
Another theory speculates he could've went to Michigan, as Hilton Beach is extremely close to the U.S. border.
Justin's family believes he was going towards Toronto. His parents and grandparents made several trips up to Toronto (a 7 hour drive for them), to look for their missing son and grandson. They went to homeless shelters, asked homeless youth, and looked through the streets.
In 2003, Justin's parents (father and stepmother) expressed frustration, stating that the shelter system makes it somewhat easy for youth to live. They think Justin was lured in by the "glamour" of Toronto street living.
A gas station attendant in Sault Ste. Marie, believed to have seen Justin get into a Quik X truck around the time he disappeared. This sighting was not reported until mid 2005, almost 4 years later.
On May 16, 2005, Justin's case was reopened by the East Algoma O.P.P. with the Criminal Investigation Branch. A huge search was completed, with a canine unit and forensics.
After 4 days, the search led to nothing.
Justin' family kept a briefcase full of photos of Justin that they would hand out during searches. They also had letters and drawings he left, that they had not discovered until after he disappeared. Three months before the disappearance, Justin had wrote to his grade 9 teacher a letter that said,
"I really hate school and the government. At class I plan on trying until I get sick of it, then I'll give up and drop out when I'm 16."
It has been reported that most youth who runaway and are at risk do so because of troubles at/with school, being bullied, having difficulty making friends, or having major life changes such as divorce, moving, or changing schools. Most runaways do not perform well in school and are seen as troublesome to teachers and peers according to the stats.
Many people believe Justin is deceased, explaining why he has been missing for over 22 years. Others think Justin made it to Toronto, or another big city and has been living homeless. Locals think more people know what happened to Justin but are not speaking out.
In 2018, Justin's case was again reopened. There are age progression photos of him available. He would be 37 years old today.
Justin's nickname was "Woody." He was listed as being 5'11 and weighing around 140 pounds. He has blue eyes and a dimple in his chin. He wore his hair in a 6 inch Mohawk style which may be dyed black or blonde. He had two earrings in his left ear and wore heavy chain necklaces.
He may have been wearing a wooden name tag with the inscription "Woody." He was an avid skateboarder and may have been hanging around skate parks. He may go by the nickname "Joe."
If you have any information regarding Justin Pollari’s disappearance or whereabouts, please contact Crime Stoppers, you can stay anonymous. Call 1-800-222-8477(TIPS)
You can also call Missing Kids at 1-866-KID-TIPS(543-8477).

AI's gone too far man. It's even taking work away from the racists
Tumblr media
So much racism all around us that we need to manufacture it, this is a fairly common theme over the last decade and change, thankfully he's getting in trouble for this unlike so many others that just claim they wanted to start a conversation or some bs like that.
A Maryland high school teacher has been arrested for allegedly using AI to deepfake a bogus recording of his principal making racist comments.
Dazhon Darien, 31, is accused of creating the hoax audio of Pikesville High School Principal Eric Eiswert.
Mr Eiswert was placed on leave and had police outside his home amid death threats he received over the fake clip.
Mr Darien was held at an airport after a security check over a gun in his bag found an arrest warrant against him.
He faces charges of stalking, theft, disruption of school operations and retaliation against a witness.
Baltimore County Schools Superintendent Myriam Rogers said the school, as well as the Baltimore County Police Department, launched an investigation on 17 January when they were made aware of the voice recording.
Detectives requested a forensic analysis of the audio, which found it was not authentic.
In the recording, Mr Eiswert's deepfaked voice is heard making disparaging comments about black students' test scores, black teachers and Jews.
Police believe Mr Darien, the Baltimore-area school's athletic director, made the recording to retaliate against Mr Eiswert because he was pursuing an investigation into potential mishandling of district funds.
Mr Darien had authorised a payment of nearly $2,000 (£1,600) to his roommate, falsely claiming the roommate was an assistant coach for the Pikesville girls' soccer team, reports the Baltimore Sun newspaper. ____________________________

In occasion of the 30th anniversary from the Rwandan genocide I couldn't refrain from presenting you with this book I read a couple of years ago. It's a memoir/report by Clea Koff, a forensic anthropologist, who worked on the mass graves of the most important massacres in recent history: Rwanda, Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo.
From Penguin Random House Canada:
Published ten years after the genocide in Rwanda, The Bone Woman is a riveting, deeply personal account by a forensic anthropologist sent on seven missions by the UN War Crimes Tribunal. To prosecute charges of genocide and crimes against humanity, the UN needs proof that the bodies found are those of non-combatants. This means answering two questions: who the victims were, and how they were killed. The only people who can answer both these questions are forensic anthropologists. Before being sent to Rwanda in 1996, Clea Koff was a twenty-three-year-old graduate student studying prehistoric skeletons in the safe confines of Berkeley, California. Over the next four years, her gruelling investigation into events that shocked the world transformed her from a wide-eyed student into a soul-weary veteran — and a wise and deeply thoughtful woman. Her unflinching account of those years — what she saw, how it affected her, who went to trial based on evidence she collected — makes for an unforgettable read, alternately riveting, frightening and miraculously hopeful. Readers join Koff as she comes face to face with the human meaning of genocide: exhuming almost five hundred bodies from a single grave in Kibuye, Rwanda; uncovering the wire-bound wrists of Srebrenica massacre victims in Bosnia; disinterring the body of a young man in southwestern Kosovo as his grandfather looks on in silence. As she recounts the fascinating details of her work, the hellish working conditions, the bureaucracy of the UN, and the heartbreak of survivors, Koff imbues her story with an immense sense of hope, humanity and justice.
I also recommend you watch the video and read the articles and posts I shared earlier on my blog to better understand how this horror came to be:

12-year-old Lynne Harper came from a Canadian Air Force family and was used to frequently relocating all across the map in Canada. In the summer of 1957, the family settled into the Permanent Married Quarters--the PMQ, as many called them--in RCAF Station Clinton, which was once an air force base south of Clinton, Ontario, roughly 20 kilometres away from Lake Huron. All of the kids living on base attended the same school, swam in the same RCAF pool, and frolicked at the same playground.
On June 9th, 1957, Lynne came home for dinner and asked her parents if either one of them could take her to the local RCAF pool. All children were required to be accompanied by an adult when attending the pool for a swim. However, both of them objected, causing much of a fuss on Lynne’s end. Lynne left to go to the pool by herself, but was turned away by the pool’s supervisor. She then returned home and begrudgingly helped with some chores before leaving  the house again without telling anyone where she was going.
Lynne found herself at the local playground, where she approached 14-year-old Steven Truscott. The two were classmates but never really interacted. Steven was your average 8th grader who was physically active and never got himself into trouble. Lynne asked if he could give her a lift on his bike to Highway 8, and he agreed to do so. On the way there, Lynne mentioned her intention to visit Mr. Lawson’s barn on Highway 8 to see the ponies.
As per her request, he dropped Lynne off at the intersection of a country road and Highway 8. On the way back to Clinton, Steven would later claim he looked over his shoulder to see Lynne getting into a mysterious vehicle.
Lynne never came home that night. The next morning, she was still missing. Lynne’s parents notified police and an investigation ensued. On June 11, two days after Lynne’s disappearance, her body was found close to a bush on Lawson’s property. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled with her own blouse.
The following day, Steven was arrested for her murder, as he was the last person to be seen with her. During the trial, the defense and Crown brought on many witnesses, plenty of which were children. One female classmate claimed that Steven had repeatedly invited her to meet him at Lawson’s barn. When she finally went there, he never showed up. The following day at school, she confronted him about it, and he responded by shrugging his shoulders.
The defense and Crown argued endlessly about the timeline of the murder. But ultimately, Steven was found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging, making him the youngest person in Canada to face execution.
Steven has maintained his innocence for years and believed he was given an unfair trial. Many people advocated on his behalf and fought for his conviction to be overturned. In 1960, Steven’s death sentence was commuted to a life sentence. In 2007, his conviction was overturned and he was exonerated as it was argued that the forensic evidence presented at his trial was weak and circumstantial.
To this day, Lynne Harper’s death remains unsolved, with Canadians divided on their beliefs about whether Steven was truly the culprit.

Page 3 & 14. ---- Discovery of Bones In Cellar Held Sign Of Crime of Passion ---- THE turn of a shovel in the cellar of a St. Hubert house last week brought to light yesterday what may be a crime of passion committed 27 years ago.
The shovel, in the hands of a hired man, revealed a human skeleton-and from this grim revelation came a half-told story of the disappearance of a man - and hints of a murder.
With the help of modern science and painstaking checking and investigation by police - the case was built up - the skeleton was identified - the disappearance revealed and perhaps the proof of a crime shown.
Today, Luigi Stabile, 60- year-old Ville La Salle farmer, was arraigned on a charge of murder, after a coroner's jury yesterdray held him criminally responsible for the death in 1916 of his brother-in-law, Carmeno Festa.
Coroner Richard Duckett, in summing up the case hinted at jealousy as a possible motive. "It may have been some other motive," he stated, "but we have the testimony of two witnesses who say they saw their father in a room with their aunt."
Not Reported Missing The coroner summing up followed testimony by the dead man's son and two daughters about the events of the day in October, 1916, and a review of evidence gathered at the scene of the crime by provincial police.
A question asked of the victim's son by Coroner Duckett was why the dead man had never been reported missing. The son replied that his family had just arrived from Italy at the time of his father's disappearance and was not acquainted with the proper procedure to be followed.
The jurymen leaned forward in their chairs and listened with rapt attention as Mrs. Raphael Costello, of 970 Minto avenue, daughter of the victim, identified her father's shoes as those he wore on the day -she last saw him 27 years ago. She was 16 years old at the time.
Mrs. Costello spoke carefully as she informed Chief Crown Prose- -cutor Gerald Fauteux, K.C., that she had come to Canada from Italy in 1915 with her mother, sister and three brothers and went to live with the uncle, Luigi Stabile, at St. Hubert. The former Armella Festa said that her father, Carmeno Festa, had come to Canada earlier.
Mrs. Costello said that her family lived in the Stabile home for five months, after which her father rented a house on the opposite side of the railway tracks. Festa had been in the employ of Stabile during this time, she testified, and continued so after the family moved.
The witness described the wound over her father's left eye, corroborating the evidence given by Dr. Rosario Fontaine, medico- legal expert, concerning marks found on the skull. She identified the boots unearthed as those worn by her father the last day she saw him alive in October 1916, and also corroborated evidence given by Dr. Fontaine concerning the missing teeth.
Never Came Out of House Mrs. Costello, still under questioning by Mr. Fauteux, said she was working in a shed sorting onions on the fatal October day when her father, called to her brother Joseph, then 11 years old. to fetch some milk. The brother went about the errand and Festa, the father, entered Stabile's house. That was the last time she saw him alive, she testified.
When Joseph returned with the milk, the father could not be found and was never seen again, Mrs. Costello stated further. Following Festa's disappearance, Stabile did not speak to her, she stated.
Stabile, however, suggested the following night that the family search for Festa in the ditches alongside the road, in case he had fallen, the witness told the court.
A few days later, Stabile took the family to Montreal by wagon and placed them in an abandoned house which was later given up for another house on St. James street, Mrs. Costello said. The witness later stated that on one occasion she had seen her father alone with her aunt in one of the bedrooms of the Stabile home.
Sister Next to Testify Mrs. Costello was followed to the witness stand by her sister, Mrs. Julio Adamo, of 1347 Lapierre avenue, who identified a coat lapel found with the skeleton as that which formed part of a coat worn by her father when he was last seen.
Mrs. Adamo, whose maiden name was Assompta Festa, produced a certificate of baptism as evidence that the victim was 40 years of age.
Joseph Festa, of 605 Sixth street. Rochester, N.Y., a son of the victim, then testified that it was his habit to fetch milk for the family daily. He recalled the night in October, 1916, when he was told by his father to get milk. He was 11 at the time, and said he recalled the facial wound over his father's left eye.
Festa stated the family had visited Stabile only once in 10 years after the father's disappear- ance. When reference was made as to the whereabouts of the father, the question was dismissed. as being "just one of those things," the witness said.
Romeo Jacques, a St. Hubert farmer in the employ of Antonio Abandonetto, in whose home the skeleton was found, testified that the skeleton, when found by him last Tuesday, was in a reclining position with the face turned down. He identified the boots when shown them in court.
Dr. Rosario Fontaine, medico-legal expert, testified that the skeleton brought to the morgue was practically complete. It was that of a male and, under examination, indicated a former height of five feet 7 1/2 inches. Dr. Fontaine added that the scar over the d left eye had been caused some time before death and could have been inflicted by an axe or sabre.
The medico-legal expert said the man was not over 48 years of age, the age being ascertainable through study of the measurement and condition of the bones, which had been preserved by the dampness of the earth.
Dr. Fontaine informed the jury that no clothes had been found with the skeleton. The fact that the clothes had rotted away, he explained, indicated that the body had been buried for the past 15 or 20 years. He added that two teeth were missing and these had been out for some time previous to the man's death.
Chief of Detectives Jargaille testified that investigation showed Luigi Stabile, the uncle, continued to occupy the house for a year after the disappearance of Festa. He then moved to Montreal where he has lived ever since, the court was told.
/// "Philo Vance Thriller": Modern Methods of Analysis Tear Veil From Murder of 1916 --- Medico-Legal Expert's Research Spoils Almost "Perfect Crime" ---- "A PHILO VANCE thriller" exclaimed a spectator, as a noted criminologist related at an inquest yesterday how modern methods of analysis and unerring laboratory tests tore the veil from a 27-year-old murder.
Coroner, Jury and public listened with amazement as the criminologist, Dr. Rosario Fontaine, medico-legal expert of the Attorney-General's Department, took them step by step over the scientific course that it is hoped will solve the murder mystery.
Theories flew thick and fast when a skeleton was found about a week ago in the cellar of a farmhouse at St. Hubert, and within a few hours, due to his having lived in the place about 20 years ago, the prevailing theory was that the skeleton was that of Ciro Niegri and that he had been murdered by his former friends for "squealing" in the famous Hochelaga Bank hold-up of 1924.
Gang Murder Theory Quashed Dr. Fontaine and his assistants at the morgue laboratories, however, brought cold, scientific calculations to bear on the case, with startling results. Not only did he eliminate the hold-up gang murder idea, but he traced back the age and sex of the victim and the approximate date of the murder. The skeleton was that of a man, he testified, who was between 38 and 40 years of age and who was slain with a blow from an axe on the head 27 years ago.
More than a quarter of a century had made of it an almost "perfect crime," but not quite. The human bones remained, and Dr. Fontaine, with F. Pepin, chemist at the morgue laboratory, set to work to examine them minutely. The analysis showed the age and sex of the victim. The murderer also failed to destroy the clothing, leather boots and belt of the victim, so these also were subjected to scientific examination. This in turn established the approximate date of the murder and the placing of the body in the cellar, where it was discovered only by accident when a workman started on some excavation work under the house.
Evidence of Scar Found More positive identification was now the goal of the medico-legal expert and his helpers, and here their microscopic examination of the skeleton gave them their ace clue a slight indentation on the frontal bone of the skuli. The doctor's findings had sent the detectives off on a new trail of investigation, which resulted in the discovery that Carmino Frank Festa, then 40 years old, had disappeared at St. Hubert 27 yeas ago. "Did Festa have a scar on his forehead?", the doctor asked the detectives. At first, those questioned denied that the missing man had, but eventually it was admitted by some who knew him that Festa's forehead was so marked that strangers referred to him as "Scarface."
Identification was complete, but Dr. Fontaine and his assistants eleven checked the buttons, straps e and fasteners on a leather coat, found with the skeleton, to cinch the case.

Mystery at Magnolia Gardens (Day 1)
WARNING, THIS GAMEPLAY CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM THE GAME "Mystery at Magnolia Gardens". READ AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION !!!
Tumblr media
Day 1 (July 16th 2022) I have been waiting to play this game for a while now but I got distracted with some online class I took about forensics and damn was it fun :p Anyways, Nancy Drew is one of my favorite crime and mystery franchise since I was a kid. I started with playing the games, the the books and now this. When I saw that game, I was like "I need this game right now !"
Like my previous investigation (fire in Adlerstein), I made copies of most of the things in the box and put them in a brand new folder because Nerd I am x) And that's why I'm still single my friends ! XD
Anyways, let's start. We start off with a letter from none other than our beloved Nancy Drew. 2nd best detective after Sherlock Holmes x) In her letter, it basically says she went to visit Magnolia Gardens' new exhibit on poisonous plants, which she got invited by the garden's director and family friend, Florence North. Upon her arrival, Florence invited Nancy to her office for a cup of tea. She noticed something was wrong with Florence after seeing how dilated her pupils were and she kept scratching her arms. After Nancy asked her how she was doing, Florence (let's call her Flo from now on lol) told her she felt ill soon after the exhibit opened, 3 days ago. After their tea, Nancy offered to clean up and noticed a pink stain on the bag that held her tea strainer. She asked Flo some questions, yadi yadi yada, got poisoned herself, blablabla, and here we are lol. It is now up to us to help her crack the case; and cracking I shall do ! x) She also states to take a look through her case notes and sussy bakas profiles.
Tumblr media
Here's what Nancy's letter exactly says :
"Hello,
There's trouble at Magnolia Gardens, a botanical garden in my hometown of River Heights. I need your help to get to the bottom of it before anyone gets hurt any worse than they already have been-including myself.
Let me explain. Yesterday, I went to visit Magnolia Gardens' new exhibit on poisonous plants-Fatal Flora. I'd been invited on a personal tour by the garden's director, a family friend named Florence North.
When I arrived, Florence invited me into her office for a cup of tea. I knew something was wrong immediately: her pupils were dilated and she kept scratching at her arms.I asked Florence how she was doing. She told me she'd started to feel ill soon after the Fatal Flora exhibit opened three days earlier. When I pressed her for more information, she said she'd been wondering if she was spending too much time breathing in pollen and spores from the toxic plants in the new exhibit.
By the time she was done explaining, we'd finished our tea. I offered to clean up the cups. That's when I saw a mysterious pink stain on the bag that held her tea strainer.
Tumblr media
The pieces fell into place for me in an instant. I asked Florence if she drank this particular tea regularly. She replied she had a cup every morning. Then I asked how many people had access to her office. She responded that she usually kept the door locked when she wasn't inside, but she'd forgotten to close up on the night the Fatal Flora exhibit opened.
Florence gasped when she finally realized what I was getting at: someone must have poisoned her loose leaf tea!
I knew that with the culprit still on the loose, there wasn't much time to waste: I had to start talking to suspects and tracking down clues, and that's exactly what I did.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to solve the case before the poison started to take effect that evening. It affected me more strongly than it did Florence, likely because Florence takes her tea with a heavy pour of milk, and I take mine plain.
I'll likely be discharged from the hospital in a few days, but that's not soon enough. Not with the poisoner still at large.
Since I'm still too sick to close the case myself, I need your help. I've enclosed the evidence I gathered from the gardens and the notes I took. During my preliminary investigation, I was able to narrow it down to five suspects. The rest is in your hands.
You need to figure out which of our five suspects poisoned Florence's loose leaf tea on the night the Fatal Flora exhibit opened. As you may already know, you'll need to figure out which suspect had the means, motive, and opportunity to poison her. If you find evidence that any suspect doesn't have either means, motive, or opportunity, you can safely consider them to be innocent.
If I were you, I'd start by looking through my case notes and suspect profiles. They should give you some context as you begin to dig into the rest of the evidence. After that, you should look through the rest of the evidence to see what you find.
It's up to you.
Nancy Drew"

Now, here's her case notes :
Tumblr media
"Symptoms:
Florence reports the following symptoms:
Throbbing headaches
Dilated pupils
Uncomfortable rashes up her arms
Uncomfortable rashes up her arms
Irregular heartbeat
Vivid nightmares of being chased through the Magnolia Gardens hedge maze by an unknown assailant
Florence's Office:
Florence keeps her office locked whenever she's not inside. She's the only person with a key.
I first noticed a strange pink stain on the cloth container that holds her tea strainer. Upon further investigation, I found similar, finger-shaped stains all around the area where Florence keeps her tea, and on the doorknob to her office.
Tumblr media
The Night of the Poisoning:
Florence says she always keeps her office door locked, but that she accidentally left it unlocked on the night the Fatal Flora exhibit opened. That was the only opportunity that the culprit had to poison the tea. Here's what I know about that night:
The Fatal Flora exhibit opened three days before my visit, on Tuesday night."
The opening reception event for the exhibit began at 6:45 pm.
From 7 pm-8 pm, Dr. Latour was scheduled to deliver a lecture on the chemical properties of some of the poisons found in the exhibit's flowers.
A post-lecture reception was held from 8 pm - 8:30 pm.
Evidence Collected:
Interviewed possible suspects, took notes.
Took the strainer and stained strainer bag from Florence's office as evidence.
When Florence came back from the lecture, she found a bouquet and a postcard right outside her office door. Made a sketch of the bouquet and took the postcard as evidence.
Asked Florence if any of her employees had gotten into any trouble lately. She gave me a report she'd written about Parker. Found a sticky note with a strange message written on it in the hallway outside of Florence's office.
Looks like someone dropped it.
Took an exhibit brochure from Fatal Flora, to get a better understanding of the plants in the exhibit. Took a map of Magnolia Gardens to guide me around.
Kept an eye out for the items that Heather said were stolen from the gift shop. Found the packets and tin in a trash can outside the main building. The tin is locked, but there's definitely something inside.
Found a notebook on the ground inside the old greenhouse, which is strange, since nobody's supposed to be working there any more. I took the most recent page, since that appears to have been written during the week of the poisoning.
Found an interesting looking fax in Dr. Latour's office. Borrowed it.
Saw a checklist on a communal refrigerator in the administrative building. Looks like tensions were high between Sherwood and Tara the week the exhibit opened. Borrowed that as well.
Tumblr media
Missing Plants ?:
As I searched Magnolia Gardens for clues, I noticed that some of the gardens' plants had recently had cuttings taken from them. I asked Florence about it, and she said that there was no reason that anyone should be taking cuttings from plants on display.
I wonder who took all of these plants, and what their motivations could have possibly been?
The following plants have had cuttings taken:
Air Plant
Q Azalea
Bleeding Heart
Chamomile
Jelly Bean Plant
Lily of the Valley
Oleander
Venus Flytrap
Wolfsbane"
And here's are suspects :
Tumblr media
"Dr. Tara Latour
AGE: 29
OCCUPATION: Research Scientist
NOTES:
Tara is trying to breed strains of produce that need less water to grow. She said if her project succeeds, it could mean a more environmentally friendly way of farming. However, Tara also mentioned her project hasn't been as successful as she'd hoped, saying this:
"The project's setbacks can be chalked up to lack of funding and/or lack of good assistance. Parker hasn't lived up to my expectations, and Florence won't invest enough money into my vision. Still, I'm going to make sure this study succeeds no matter what."
On the night of the lecture, Tara planned to show up to the exhibit early, but Parker made a mistake in the lab that set her back. Tara seemed frustrated with him, saying:
"Of course Parker's incompetence would make me run late to my own lecture. He somehow managed to trip while carrying my most promising samples, making a huge mess for both of us. Both Sandersons are as clumsy as they are negligent of lab safety protocols. It's fine that Sherwood constantly forgets about the existence of protective eyewear and gloves, but it's baffling that Parker never remembers something so basic."
Tara told Parker to clean up the samples he dropped, Then she left the administrative building. She arrived at the Fatal Flora exhibit around 6:55.
Tara noticed Sherwood wasn't at the event. She sounded annoyed that the curator would miss the opening of his own exhibit. She also noticed Parker sneak into the event at one point, but that he seemed more interested in the refreshment table than the lecture.
Tara said Florence showed up to the event late, and that Oliver left the lecture a few minutes before she was done speaking. Tara mentioned with more than a little annoyance that Heather was her only colleague who stayed for the entirety of the lecture.
Tara left as soon as she was finished speaking, at eight o'clock. When I asked her why, she said it was because she doesn't like to mingle, and because she had some work to complete in her office. When she got to her office, Tara could hear Sherwood's music playing through their shared wall. She said that it turned off at some point before she left, but she couldn't say exactly when.
While she was in her office, Tara saw Oliver through her window. He was moving around in the greenhouse from 8 to around 8:15. She couldn't make out exactly what he was doing.
She left for the night at 9 o'clock.
As I left Tara's office, I noticed a lab coat hanging in the corner, covered in pink stains."
Tumblr media
"Heather Schall
AGE: 25
OCCUPATION: Gift Shop Manager
NOTES:
Heather greeted me with a chipper hello, and when I told her who I was, she started tell ing me about a potential case of theft from the gift shop.
According to Heather, she was doing inventory the morning after the Fatal Flora exhibit opened when she noticed that a small tin, three seed packets, and a postcard went missing the previous night.
She also said that she found 95 cents on the counter after the talk, and since the postcards cost exactly that much, she assumes that money was meant to pay for the postcard. It's odd that there'd be payment for the card but not the seeds or the tin.
Heather seems to take pride in her work. She noted that she knows Magnolia Gardens' regular visitors by name, favorite flower, and astrological sign. She said that she always pitches ideas on how to improve the botanical garden to the director, although she seemed to get a bit less cheerful when I asked about that, saying:
"I totally think we should start selling flowers. Oh, and we should get a costumed mascot who's dressed like a big magnolia! But Florence doesn't take me seriously like Felix, the old director, did. Which is, like, not cool of her. She thinks she's better than me because she's in charge of the whole place and I'm just the gift shop girl. But someday, she'll realize that she shouldn't underestimate me."
On the night of the opening, Heather showed up to the event space a little before 6:30 to set up the chairs and the refreshment table. She noticed Oliver arrive a few minutes after she did.
Heather then listened to the entirety of Tara's lecture. This was her takeaway:
"Dr. Latour had, like, a weird pink stain on her blazer? It's like, so embarrassing for her to have given a whole speech in front of that many people looking like a total mess. I mean, yikes."
After the talk, Heather spoke with several regular visitors to the gardens, including a woman named Gertrude Robertson, before eventually leaving the building at around 8:10.
When Heather was in the parking lot a little later, she saw Oliver come out of the administrative building, get into his car, and rest his head on the steering wheel. Here's what she said about that:
"I bet he'd been looking for Florence, which is, like, so sad of him, no offense. It's like, take the hint, you know?
She's just not that into you." She drove home at 8:20."
Tumblr media
"Oliver Whatley
AGE: 38
OCCUPATION: Horticulturist
NOTES:
Oliver takes care of the plants in Magnolia Gardens. He mainly works out of the new greenhouse. Sherwood told me to ask him about Florence, so I did. It wasn't hard to get Oliver to open up; it seemed like he wanted someone to talk to. He got visibly upset when I mentioned Florence's name, saying:
"Florence and I were involved for some time, romantically. And it was fine. More than fine! It was fantastic. But I mean, it was fine in the sense that there's nothing against it in the employee handbook. We both checked. Still, she asked me to keep things quiet. She wanted to be professional. I wanted to be more open, but I respected her wishes."
Because of this, Florence and Oliver would never be affectionate at work. This is what they did instead:
"Instead of saying "I love you' whenever people were around, I'd say 'perennial.' It's a term that means through thick and thin, basically. Even if a perennial might look dead in the winter, you can count on it to bloom again come springtime."
Oliver said that when Florence was promoted, it put a strain on their relationship. She was even less comfortable dating a subordinate than she was a coworker. They tried to make it work for several months up until last week, when Florence broke off the relationship for good.
On the night of the opening, Oliver showed up around 6:30. He told me he was hoping to help set up as an excuse to talk to Florence, but Florence didn't show up until after Tara started speaking. Here's what he said about that:
"When Florence walked into the room, I saw her look down at the empty seat next to me and walk over to the opposite end of the room to sit instead. That really hurt."
Oliver said he couldn't stand the thought of Florence ignoring him during the post lecture mingling, so he slipped out a few minutes before eight. Then, he went to the new greenhouse to complete some "horticultural tasks" before he left.
At 8:15, Oliver cut through the administrative building to get to his car. He thought he heard someone moving around in Florence's office. Oliver called out to Florence through the door hoping to talk to her. When nobody responded, he left.
When Oliver got to his car, he saw Heather leaving the abandoned greenhouse with Gertrude Robertson, a woman who visits the gardens every Tuesday. The two parted ways, got into their respective vehicles, and drove away. Oliver went home a little after 8:20.
I noticed quite a few stains on Oliver's clothing, which isn't out of the ordinary for his job. However, one of them was a similar pink to the stains in Florence's office."
Tumblr media
"Parker Sanderson
AGE: 21
OCCUPATION: College Student, Intern
NOTES:
Parker is currently a senior at River Heights University in addition to working at Magnolia Gardens. His internship is part of a year-long program that the school has with the botanical garden. Parker said that he hopes to get hired on as a full employee once he graduates. Currently, most of his duties involve helping Dr. Latour with her ongoing research project.
Parker is also Sherwood's nephew. Here's what he said about Sherwood:
"Uncle S has always had my back. Growing up around him gave me the confidence I have today, plus the interest in plant biology. He's a total natural leader. A lot of people don't see that in him, just like how they don't see how smart I really am. But they will someday, for both of us."
Parker missed most of Fatal Flora's opening night event because Dr. Latour asked him to stay in the lab to clean up a number of samples that he accidentally spilled shortly before the event began. He said this about the task:
"I don't get why I had to be the one to clean up. The janitor would've gotten it in the morning. I honestly kind of think Dr. L just wanted to take her frustrations out on me, since her project's not going the way she wants. It's honestly just a matter of time before Florence shuts it down."
After cleaning the spill, Parker got bored and a little lonely in the lab, and so he snuck into the lecture for roughly twenty minutes, from around 7:15 to 7:40. He notes that Heather, Oliver, and Florence were all in attendance for Tara's talk.
At 7:40, Parker took some snacks from the table at the back of the room and went back to the lab. He knew that Sherwood must not be done with his work yet, since he could still hear music playing from Sherwood's office, and he couldn't go home before Sherwood was ready since Sherwood was his ride.
Parker said that he occupied his time by getting a little extra internship-related work done, and that he noticed Sherwood sticking his head into the lab to check on him a little before eight.
Parker says that he finished his work around 8:45, and that Sherwood gave him a ride back to RHU a little before nine."
Tumblr media
"Dr. Sherwood Sanderson
AGE: 46
OCCUPATION: Exhibit Curator
NOTES:
Sherwood is Parker's uncle, and he seems extremely fond of him. Here's how he talked about Parker:
"The kid's a genius. He'll have his pick of jobs once he graduates, but I'll bet anything that he's going to end up here. I always used to take him to Magnolia Gardens when he was little. It was his favorite place in the whole world. Still is."
Sherwood says he had to miss Fatal Flora's opening to complete a large amount of "ultra-high-priority" paperwork that he needed to turn in ASAP. He stayed in his office, playing music, for most of the night.
He finished his work a few minutes before eight, and decided he'd missed so much of the event already that there was no point in showing up for the last half hour.
When he finished his work, Sherwood peeked into the lab to check on Parker. According to him:
"I only looked in. I never set foot on any part of Dr. Latour's turf. Let's just say it's hostile terrain to me for more than one reason."
Sherwood said Parker looked busy at work when he checked in on him, so he left Parker alone. He went into the break room to find something to eat.
Sherwood heard Tara come back into the administrative building from the main building at some point after eight, during the time he was eating, but he couldn't say exactly when.
Around 8:20, Sherwood heard someone knocking on a door in the hallway. He looked into the hall and saw Oliver standing outside Florence's office. Oliver was holding something, but Sherwood couldn't see it because Oliver's back was to him. Oliver called Florence's name as if he was trying to coax her out of the room, but nobody came to the door. That's when Sherwood looked away.
When I tried to ask about why Oliver might be visiting Florence so late, Sherwood said that I should ask Oliver myself.
Quote from Sherwood, on Oliver: "The guy tries to be all stoic, but he's got a whole lot of feelings buttoned down under those big, cozy sweaters of his."
Sherwood stayed in the break room until around 8:50, eating dinner and, in his words, tying up some loose ends.
When he finished up, Sherwood drove Parker back to his dorm at RHU and then took himself home."
Tumblr media
"Florence North
AGE: 45
OCCUPATION: Director of Magnolia Gardens
NOTES:
Florence has only been the director for about six months. When the previous director retired, she was up against Sherwood for the promotion. Florence said she was surprised to be promoted over Sherwood, since he's been working at Magnolia Gardens much longer than her.
She drinks a cup of tea in her office every morning at 9 am. She started to feel sick around 5 pm the day after the Fatal Flora exhibit opened.
The night Fatal Flora opened, Florence was in her office for most of the afternoon doing administrative work. She heard a loud crash come from the lab at around 6:50, but didn't check on it, since she was busy. Twenty minutes later, Florence realized she'd lost track of the time, and that she was running late for the opening night event.
On her way to the opening, Florence saw Parker inside the lab cleaning something up, and heard Sherwood in his office. She said this about Sherwood:
"He was blasting classic rock like he usually does when he's rushing to meet a deadline. I wish I could say I was shocked he missed the opening of his own exhibit, but frankly that's not unusual behavior for Dr. Sanderson."
Tara was already speaking when Florence walked into the event. She saw Oliver and Heather at the lecture, too.
Tara finished speaking at eight o'clock, but didn't stick around for the reception. Florence said this:
"I had to mingle and field questions about the lecture on her behalf, which was a little awkward, since I'm not a scientist. She seemed like she was in a hurry to leave."
Florence left the event when it ended and went back to the administrative building to retrieve her car keys from her office. When she got there, she saw Sherwood in the break room, muttering angrily under his breath and furiously scratching at his arms.
When Florence got to her office around 8:30, she noticed there was a bouquet and a on the floor outside the door. I've asked her to give both of those to me as evidence.
Florence realized she'd accidentally left her door unlocked when she left for the lecture. She made sure the door was locked for real this time, and left around 8:45."

@ 7:40 pm :
• PARKER took some snacks from the event's table, then went back to the lab. He heard music in SHERWOOD'S office.
@ a few minutes before 8:00 pm :
• OLIVIER left the event and went to the NEW greenhouse to complete "horticultural tasks".
• SHERWOOD finished work in his office and decided not to go to the event, as he missed half of it already.
• SHERWOOD peaked into the lab to check on PARKER and he looked busy at work.
• SHERWOOD went to the break room to eat.
@ 8:00 pm :
• TARA finished speaking and left the event.
• TARA saw OLIVER in the greenhouse, through her office window until 8:15 pm.
• FLORENCE had to answer questions on TARA'S behalf.
• HEATHER stayed and talked with the regular visitors.
@ some point after 8:00 pm :
• SHERWOOD heard TARA come in the administrative building from the main building.
@ 8:10 pm :
• HEATHER left the event's building.
• HEATHER saw OLIVER coming out of the administrative building, get in his car and rest his head on the steering wheel, as if he was disappointed with something.
@ 8:15 pm :
• OLIVER cut through the administrative building to get to his car.
• OLIVER thought he heard someone move around in FLORENCE'S office. He called through the door but nobody answered so he left.
• OLIVER saw HEATHER leaving the ABANDONED greenhouse with a woman name GERTRUDE ROBERTSON and saw them both get into their cars and drive away.
@ 8:20 pm :
• HEATHER drove home.
• SHERWOOD heard someone knocking on a door in the hallway. He saw OLIVER standing outside of FLORENCE'S office, holding something. SHERWOOD also says OLIVER called out for FLORENCE, but nobody answered.
• OLIVER drove home.
@ 8:30 pm :
• FLORENCE left when event ended and went back to administrative building to get her car keys.
• FLORENCE saw SHERWOOD in the break room muttering angrily and scratching his arms.
• FLORENCE noticed a bouquet and postcard on the floor outside of her office.
• FLORENCE also noticed she had left her door unlocked.
• HEATHER found 95¢ on the counter in the gift shop.
@ 8:45 pm :
• FLORENCE left for home.
• PARKER finished work.
@ 8:50 pm :
• SHERWOOD left the break room and then drove PARKER to his university dorm.
@ 9:00 pm :
• TARA left fir the night.
Day AFTER event :
@ Morning :
• HEATHER was doing the gift shop's inventory and noticed a small tin, 3 seed packets and a postcard were missing.
@ 9 am :
• FLORENCE had tea in her office.
@ 5 pm :
• FLORENCE started to feel sick.
And here's some key observations from myself :
HEATHER :
• She told Nancy that FLORENCE shouldn't underestimate her.
• She noticed TARA had some pink stains on her blazer.
• Saw OLIVER resting his head on the steering wheel in his car.
OLIVIER :
• He's FLORENCE'S ex.
• He had a few stains on his clothing.
SHERWOOD :
• PARKER'S uncle.
• He says that it's hostile between he and TARA.
PARKER :
• SHERWOOD'S nephew.
• He says people don't see how smart he really is.
• He's a bit of a whinny bitch, saying "he shouldn't have to be the on to clean up his mess because they have a janitor for that." (Boo, stfu XD)
• He says TARA seems to be taking her anger on him because her project isn't going like she wanted it to.
TARA :
• She says PARKER hasn't lived up to his expectations.
• She says FLORENCE wont invest enough money into her vision, and that "she's going to make sure this study succeeds no matter what.".
• She says PARKER is incompetent.
• Says both SHERWOOD and PARKER are clumsy and negligent of lab safety protocols.
• I noticed she says she left the event @ 8:00 pm but then says she saw OLIVER in the greenhouse from 8:00 pm to 8:15 pm, through her office window. How could she have seen him @ 8:00 pm when she was in her office, if she also left @ 8:00 pm ? Is this a mistake or is she being a sussy baka ? x)
• Nancy noticed pink stains on her lab coat.
FLORENCE :
• She says she was surprised she got the promotion over SHERWOOD, since he was working there much longer than her.
• She drinks tea in her office every day @ 9:00 am.
• She accidentally left her office door unlocked the night of the event.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, after breaking my back taking notes of everyone's timeline lol, besides Parker being a little bitch, Tara being hard on everyone and Oliver still not over Flo, everything seems to add up with what everyone is saying. With a few exceptions like Tara seeing Oliver at 8pm in the greenhouse through her office window but leaving the event, also at 8pm. Grrr, people are weird sometimes lol.
Tumblr media
I've then decided to look at the Fatal Flora poisonous plants pamphlet; and I saw they were listing effects if the plants were to be consumed. Some of which possibly had stolen cuttings. So, Flo's symptoms were :
• throbbing headaches
• dilated pupils
• uncomfortable rashes up her arms
• irregular heartbeat
• vivid nightmares
Now, here's all the plants effects from the pamphlet :
Tumblr media
Azalea :
• frothy salivation X
• loss of appetite X
• irregular heartbeat ✓
• seizures X
Tumblr media
Deadly Nightshade :
• dilated pupils ✓
• headaches ✓
• rashes ✓
• irregular heartbeat ✓
• nightmares ✓
• potential death X
Tumblr media
Oleander :
• rashes ✓
• confusion X
• tiredness X
• nausea X
• stomach pain X
• blurred vision X
• irregular heartbeat ✓
Tumblr media
Bleeding Heart (my favorite flower *.*) :
• tremors X
• drooling X
• rash ✓
• difficulty breathing X
• seizures X
Tumblr media
Lily of the Valley :
• abdominal pain X
• nausea X
• irregular heartbeat X
• potential death X
Tumblr media
Wolfsbane :
• numbness X
• irregular heartbeat ✓
• nausea X
• vomiting X
• potential death X
Tumblr media
I also noticed that on the bouquet drawing, contains all 5 plants that have a little star next to them. Azalea, Bleeding Heart, Lily of the Valley, Wolfsbane and Oleander. The only one that's not in the bouquet is the Deadly Nightshade, which is the only one that has all of Flo's symptoms, besides death, since she got treatment and, because you also need to consume an average of 10 berries for it to be lethal. So, if that's the plant that poisoned Flo, the berries' poison was probably spread through the entirety of her loose leaf tea bag, and then less prominent when adding water and a shit tone of milk like she does. Nancy on the other hand, didn't put as much milk as Flo, and as a result, she got more sick than her. Now, the Belladonna (Deadly Nightshade) didn't have any stolen cuttings, because it's its berries that are poisonous.
Tumblr media
So that probably why no one noticed if they were stolen. My most plausible explanation would be the Belladonna as a matter of facts. All the other were stolen yes, but they weren't consumed and even if they did, they don't have all the same effects Flo had.
Now, remember in the suspects notes, it said that Flo saw Sherwood "muttering angrily and scratching his arms" !? Maybe he's the one who poisoned her !? But he didn't consume them so I don't know for sure. Then we have Oliver who said himself he went to the greenhouse to complete some "horticultural tasks" and was later seen knock knock knocking on Flo's door x). Could it have been him ? Maybe, his motive would be because Flo dumped him. And Sherwood's motive could be Flo's surprising promotion over Sherwood's seniority. Very sus my dear friends, very sus indeed. x)
Tumblr media
NOW, let's check out the freakin tin box that I've been so very eager to open.  The lock on it need 3 numbers. So I checked my evidence to see what could have 3 numbers, and besides that little green post-it that I don't know what the hell it means, I don't know. The post-it doesn't have numbers on it, but there's 3 lines of information.
Tumblr media
I looked at the little patterns at 1st. So the 1st one has 9 dots, 2nd has 6 lines and 3rd has 3 lines. So that's 963. Well, that didn't work. Then I'm like, ok February and March come before June and July, so I should probably put 6 at 1st, and then 9 and 3. That's 693. Doesn't work either. Maybe if I change the 9 and the 3 ? So, 639 ? And nope T-T.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At this point, I'm already freakin frustrated, it's late, I'm tired, I want to go to sleep, but I need to know what's in that stupid tin box. So I'm like, wtf am I missing ? Then, like an idiot, I look at what's written at the end of each lines. Height, days to germination and planting depth. Mh, ok !?! Nothing in the pamphlet about that. I check all my evidence 1 by 1 (this took me for ever) and then I look at the seeds packages. We have all those informations on each of them.
Ok cool, so now, in what freakin order ? XD Because we have 2 times June - July. Then I'm like, wow, how stupid can I get !? XD So the patterns on the post-it, match the ones on the seed packages in the "planting times" section. 2 of them have June - July, so that means the one with the dotted pattern is 1st and the on with the lines is last. Then February - March is the 2nd one, and it has to be checkered. Now we have our order.
SO, 1st one is height, which is 6, 2nd one is days to germination, which is 8, and last one is planting depth, which is 1. So that gives us 681. Moment of truth ladies and gentlemen. Is it the right code ? 😱

When the Egyptian government shut down the internet in 2011 to give itself cover to crush a popular protest movement, it was Nora Younis who got the word out. Younis, then a journalist with daily newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm, found a working internet connection at the InterContinental Cairo Semiramis Hotel that overlooked Tahrir Square, the heart of the protests. From the balcony, she filmed as protesters were shot and run down with armored vehicles, posting the footage to the newspaper’s website, where it was picked up by global media.
In 2016, with Egypt having slid back into the authoritarianism that prompted the uprising, Younis launched her own media platform, Al-Manassa, which combined citizen journalism with investigative reporting. The following year, Almanassa.com suddenly disappeared from the Egyptian internet, along with a handful of other independent publications. It was still available overseas, but domestic users couldn’t see it. Younis’ team moved their site to a new domain. That, too, was rapidly blocked, so they moved again and were blocked again. After three years and more than a dozen migrations to new domains and subdomains, they asked for help from the Swedish digital forensics nonprofit Qurium, which figured out how the blocks were being implemented—using a network management tool provided by a Canadian tech company called Sandvine.
Sandvine is well known in digital rights circles, but unlike leading villains of the spyware world such as NSO Group or Candiru, it’s often floated below the eyeline of lawmakers and regulators. The company, owned by the private equity group Francisco Partners, mainly sells above-board technology to internet service providers and telecom companies to help them run their networks. But it has often sold that technology to regimes that have abused it, using it to censor, shut down, and surveil activists, journalists, and political opponents.
On Monday, after years of lobbying from digital rights activists, the US Department of Commerce added Sandvine to its Entity List, effectively blacklisting it from doing business with American partners. The department said that the company’s technology was “used in mass-web monitoring and censorship” in Egypt, “contrary to the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States.” Digital rights activists say it’s a major victory because it shows that companies can’t avoid responsibility when they sell potentially dangerous products to clients who are likely to abuse them.
“Better late than never,” Tord Lundström, Qurium’s technical director, says. “Sandvine is a shameless example of how technology is not neutral when seeking profit at all costs.”
”We are aware of the action announced by the US Commerce Department, and we’re working closely with government officials to understand, address, and resolve their concerns,” says Sandvine spokesperson Susana Schwartz. “Sandvine solutions help provide a reliable and safe internet, and we take allegations of misuse very seriously.”
Sandvine’s flagship product is deep packet inspection, or DPI, a common tool used by ISPs and telecom companies to monitor traffic and prioritize certain types of content. DPI lets network administrators see what’s in a packet of data flowing on the network in real time, so it can intercept or divert it. It can be used, for example, to give priority to traffic from streaming services over static web pages or downloads, so that users don’t see glitches in their streams. It has been used in some countries to filter out child sexual abuse images.
But the technology can also be used to divert traffic away from sites or social media platforms and into dead ends, effectively censoring them. It’s the main technology used by Roskomnadzor, the Russian state censor, to shut off or throttle sites the government has banned.
“On paper, it’s technology that has legitimate aims, but it can be abused on a mass scale if it’s given to the wrong hands,” says Marwa Fatafta, Middle East and North Africa policy and advocacy director at digital rights group Access Now, which has been lobbying the US government to take action against Sandvine. “If you’re selling your technology to repressive governments that you know have a dismal record of human rights, you know that your technology will end up being abused.”
This dual use has made authoritarian governments enthusiastic adopters of DPI. In 2017, according to Bloomberg and Qurium, Sandvine was among the tools used by the government in Azerbaijan to black out livestreaming services and social media sites during anti-corruption protests, and to later block access to a major opposition newspaper.
In 2018, the Canadian cybersecurity research center Citizen Lab found that Sandvine’s tools had been used to deploy “nation-state spyware” onto users’ devices in Syria and Turkey.
In 2020, Sandvine’s DPI tool was used to shut down the internet during anti-government protests in Belarus. The outcry that followed led to the company canceling its contract with the government in Minsk. However, Sandvine apparently continued to seek contracts in places that routinely censor the internet. In 2022, a Bloomberg investigation found that the company had been pursuing business in Russia, where the government has been rolling out a massive system of decentralized censorship, often using DPI. Sandvine has reportedly now largely pulled out of the Russian market after sanctions were imposed on the country following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In Egypt, Sandvine has provided a key tool in the government’s attempt to strangle independent voices, allegedly helping to block hundreds of sites, including Al-Manassa. The impact has been devastating for independent sites, Younis says. The constant disruption has cut them off from audiences and revenue streams, making it hard to sustain themselves financially. Many independent media outlets have shut down.
“This, of course, has definitely had a lot of impact on people’s awareness in access to information and their ability to hold officials accountable,” Younis says. “There are parliamentary elections, presidential elections—many times where maybe things would have been different if there was free access to information.”
The technical censorship is only part of the Egyptian government’s far broader crackdown on independent media and political opponents, which includes physical and legal intimidation. But Younis, like others, thought that the involvement of a Western tech company meant that she might have an avenue to seek redress. Two years ago, she started speaking with rights groups in Canada and the US to try to figure out whether she could sue Sandvine, which has never responded to any of her requests to speak. She was advised against it, on the grounds that she could open herself up to expensive counter-litigation. She lobbied Canadian diplomats, who were sympathetic but said they couldn’t help. “Their heart’s in the right place, but they say that the laws in Canada don’t work like that,” she says.
This speaks to the difficulty in regulating so-called dual-use technologies—tools whose danger depends on the context in which they’re deployed. In the US and European Union, lawmakers have begun to expand older restrictions covering dual-use technologies that could be used as, or to build, weapons to cover surveillance and censorship. But the process has been slow. NSO Group, whose Pegasus spyware has been implicated in the surveillance of hundreds of human rights activists, journalists, and politicians all over the world, was added to the Entity List only in late 2021, years after the scandal broke.
Victims of the censorship tools, including Younis, had little hope that Sandvine would be sanctioned, and Monday’s announcement took them by surprise. (Qurium’s Lundström’s first response via Signal on Tuesday morning was simply: “Oh fucking yeah.”)
Being added to the Entity List means that any American company that wants to work with Sandvine will need to seek a special license. “It is essentially a ban,” says Natalia Krapiva, tech legal counsel at Access Now. “There is a presumption that [licenses] will not be approved.”
That means Sandvine could struggle to access US technology services and infrastructure.
“It’s a big deal for companies to be going and asking for a license to do business with a company that the US government says represents a risk to our national security interests and foreign policy,” Krapiva says.
The Department of Commerce’s decision is, she adds, “hugely significant. It is a huge victory for all of us: civil society, victims of this technology, and the regimes that they were supplying into. … [Sandvine] could have stuck with sort of normal, civilian purposes. Instead, they chose to sell to dictators and facilitate censorship and repression. And so finally, they paid some price.”

My Essay on Why RK900 is a Nerd
Preface: This essay uses very loose evidence and is for entertainment purposes rather than actually analysing the RK900 scene. Enjoy. word count: 656
Y’all scrapping him up to be some sort of 7′5″ hardass because he stood next to the very-short-Amanda and moved his head slightly. Let me tell you a thing... In an Australian accent.
I present to you my case in which Nines is just a walking lab nerd and not a bloke who will hold Gavin up by the throat.
Point 1: First of All
Connor and Nines are both 6′0″. White lab coat lookin’ ass.
Tumblr media
Point 2: What are the Upgrades For?
Amanda states that Nines is to be more effective at the job. “Faster. Stronger. More resilient. And equipped with the latest technologies.”
Yeah, because they learned this android will be goin’ through it. Gunshots, stab wounds, Gavin gut-punches, the works. Equipped with the latest forensic technology? More resilient so his nerd ass can bounce back from DPD bathroom swirlies?
“Faster. Stronger.” Yeah, because why wouldn’t you upgrade any law enforcement android with those things? They have to keep up with other people! Humans birth humans and we sure as hell hope the next generation will be faster and stronger. Next question.
Point 3: Appearance vs Personality
Connor looks unintimidating upon initial interaction which can be accredited to his brown earthy colour scheme (cheers Bryan). Psychologically speaking, you think “hey this cop looks nice and friendly” and then he roars “twenty-eight stab wounds” and you shit yourself. Connor is a cold character personality-wise, in that warm interactions are still calculated and considered.
Nines is designed to be cold on the outside with blue eyes, lowered eyebrows, and a high collar. The seemingly smaller pupils are more hostile, the lowered eyebrows are angrier, and the collar ‘protects’ the neck which gives the illusion that he is less vulnerable. This appearance is specifically designed to deter people from harming the merchandise before it can even come close to them. Probably because if this pencil-dick lab-rat can make them cry by looking at them, they won’t make him cry by talking to him.
Tumblr media
Point 4: Socialisation
Connor tries really hard outwardly to get along with as many of his colleagues as humanly possible. (Or not, depending on your choices.) He also will just rip out a biocomponent to torture another android in order to get an answer. Shit, mate, as if that polar opposite snap doesn’t shake you to your core. We know nothing canon about Nines’ behaviour towards others, but I can guess that due to learnings from the RK800 model, he’d be a lot more reserved to preserve himself. Much like how Connor follows Hank around like a dog (which in positive experiences preserved him), Nines would pull a classic introvert move and attach himself to someone who wouldn’t pull a gun on his head. Note that due to the RK model and program, Nines would keep Connor’s professionalism. A fun thing to consider: Nines is the walking laboratory behind Connor, blinking for a flinch any time Connor snaps.
Point 5: Tank vs Glass Cannon
Connor is a sword and Nines is a shield. Nines, built to withstand bullies, would take the shots while Connor fires the shots.
And if Nines were to ever physically attack or defend, it would be such a big well-up that a single swing of his fist would fling a bot from Detroit to Canada. Coding anti-violence stability in the RK900 would be vital for human preservation. Would Nines push Gavin back? Nay. Gavin wouldn’t be able to push this nerd in the first place. It’d be like a brick wall. After Gavin’s fed up with trying to shove Nines over, Hank would call for the android to “come analyse evidence” and Nines would be like “coming lieutenant :)” and step out the break room so Gavin falls flat on his face.
In conclusion
Nines is the “don’t poke the bear” type. A nerdy forensic laboratory following around the leader of the investigation like a timid ginger middle-schooler who secretly knows Kung Fu.

Bowmanville Clarington Jane Doe
Tumblr media
December 31, 2023
In a field in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, a man harvesting dogwood plants would make a gruesome discovery on October 26, 2006. The man came across the skull, femur and scattered skeletal remains of a woman who had no clothes or hair.
The field was in the area of Clarington, close to the Darlington Nuclear Plant. The unidentified woman had teeth in good condition, and she also had expertly set nose fracture, determining that a some point she may have had a nasal surgery or even a rhinoplasty.
The cause of death could not be determined as the condition of the remains, but it is speculated that this woman was mostly a homicide victim.
The Jane Doe was estimated to be between the ages of 18-30. She may have been there for 2-10 years before discovery (1996-2004), and possibly as long as 25 years (1981). In full, investigators believe she could have died between 1976-2006.
Some believe the potential murder may have happened in that location.
The scene was heavily searched by DRP Forensic Identification Unit, the Ontario Provincial Police and a forensic anthropologist. The search wrapped up on November 29, 2006, with a piece of red ribbon, a small heart shaped object, a penny from 1980, and a women's OMNI digital watch with a large red face and stainless steel straps made for a small wrist.
The watch was made by the Omni Watch Company in the early 1980's and was sold at Consumers Distributing from 1981-1983.
Description of what the woman may look like and a description of the items found were released in 2009, but no leads came forward.
On October 27, 2010, investigators went back to the site 4 years after the original discovery of the body. The water table in Bowmanville had decreased in that time, as the area had a couple dry years recently.
The usually wet and muddy area was dry enough for a better search. More items were found in this search, and they searched over 20 acres.
One of the items found in this second search was a 9.5 size woman's ring, that was hold and had a red garnet stone and two one-point diamonds on either side. Inside the band, the word "Burns" was stamped.
This ring had been made by A&A Manufacturing in Toronto, sold at Burns Jewlers, a family business located in Oshawa. The business operated from 1923-1994, and wasn't far from the Darlington Nuclear Plant.
The ring was frequently worn in life, and investigator's believe this is the most significant piece of evidence that may eventually lead to the Jane Doe's identity.
A man's hooded short sleeved shirt with red, yellow and blue stripes was also found. The shirt was from Tip Top Tailor, labelled "Blue Rodeo" and sold from 1995-1996. In 2019, it was also noted that remnants of grey track pants were also found.
A DNA profile of the woman was created but no dental records or matches have come about. Detectives believe it is likely the woman was never reported as missing.
In June 2013, the Durham Regional Police got a forensic artist named Diana Trepkov to make a sketch of the woman found based on her skull. Because she had no hair upon discovery, her hair type is unknown but she had protruding upper and lower teeth.
The woman had visible white fillings on her front teeth, small silver fillings on some of her back teeth. Her upper teeth protruded more than her lower teeth, and the skull was missing two teeth when it was found.
On September 14, 1963, a 13 year old girl named Noreen Greenley was abducted in Bowmanville. Her case remains unsolved and I will cover it next, but she is not the Bowmanville Clarington Jane Doe.
If anyone has any information they can contact the Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
