#for short-term profit

i'm sure you know this already but:
COTL ISN’T DELETING THEIR GAME.
1) in terms profit they'd pretty much shoot themselves in the foot with that decision, and as protest it's not very effective to make unity listen.
2) if they were, there would've been a much bigger announcement than a twitter tweet.
3) they confirmed they're not in both the discord and the twitter. after the deletion tweet went viral. which...ok.
4) it's probably a scare tactic to take advantage of the unity news to get more people to buy their game.
5) it probably worked.
so many people are focused on the unity issue that i don't think it's often talked about how much of a shitty pr stunt that was by the social media manager. people are fearmongering, sure, but the initial seeds were planted by that twitter post that really should've gone through some extra foresight.
hope they enjoy their extra revenue.

when characters have poofy messy but otherwise straight hair, i like to headcanon that their hair is actually naturally wavy/curly and they just don't know how to/don't care to take proper care of it. bc irl that is often the case (speaking from personal experience)

Man... I hope there isn't a mass exodus of tumblr, ive been here so long. But if there is, it will be known that I am transmasc and Matt can take a long peruse of my middle fucking finger, dude.
Regardless of whatever he thinks he's doing "right", consider that regardless of how he think it looks, the majority of tumblr has commented how it makes him look REALLY fuckin bad. And then he does more. And more. At this point, he's either truly on a power trip or he's quite literally the biggest troll on the platform.
He could've made so much money if he actually did good things for this platform, I hope he knows. There are people who would've been willing to dump money for this to continue to be a trusted safe haven for queers everywhere. He had believers even up until recently.
I hope he has lost the hope that tumblr will continue to be a successful monetary decision. Maybe this will be just one more case... of Enshittification.

Few people attempt to travel in groups of about five hundred people, all of whom Will spend their lives BUMPING into each Other, trying to avoid each other, so perhaps they inspired one another unknowingly.

I noticed they changed their Spotify profile pic to just the three of them. I get that Charlie isn’t in the band anymore, but it just feels wrong on so many levels.
And you made a good point about that physical gap between Mick and Keith in the photo and how they would probably end up calling it quits if something happened to Mick or Keith. I honestly think they would continue on without Ronnie if it came to that, sadly. I just have so many feelings about this.
Tumblr media
The picture that they use in their description:
Tumblr media
Used to be their profile photo, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see that change in the next couple days either.
I don’t even know anymore…
#I’m going to be really mean for a second#because at this point I feel justified#no one is going to give a shit about this album or steve being in the band 5 years after they call it a day#if that#music critics and historians and all the other people involved in preserving and shaping the legacy of a band#are almost guaranteed to write this off as the period when they really should have quit and didn’t/when they became every other 60s rock#band that tours under its original name even though only 2 members are left#it’s not a good look#and the only era(s) and the only music that’s actually going to last#is what they did with Charlie#most people (and a lot of critics) haven’t given a toss for anything they’ve done since Tattoo You#this album isn’t going to change that#neither is ignoring Charlie’s existence and acting like they’re some brand new ‘energetic’ band#it just makes them seem craven and more concerned with praise and profit than loyalty#I get that mick hates nostalgia#but the reality is. if they ever actually tour with Hackney Diamonds. they’ll play 3-4 songs off it (maybe) in a concert and then go back to#the classics. not closing up shop after Charlie has made this the ultimate Boomer ‘we’re too special for that to happen to us’ nostalgia#trip#setting a torch to their reputation for loving respecting and always directing attention towards the importance of their drummer#for some short term feel good goal#is not going to sit well in the long term#with fans or in their own souls (metaphorically speaking)#the rolling stones#charlie watts#ask response#charliesmydarling

disregarding this bizarre toss in of ableism, you are a simply a useful idiot if you genuinely think the majority of leftists are this hard over random ecocide shit. like are you high? are you just fucking useless after jerking off over the land you’ve been reading on your discord server so hard that you burst a blood vessel or three in your brain? do you feel smart being a sectarian moron because you can’t stand the idea of someone thinking with nuance? are you mad because you can’t imagine a better world with its productive forces turned to the needs of people instead of capital?

There’s probably a whole broader conversation to be had about TV in particular as a medium that has been so thoroughly shaped by capitalism bc the scale of the distribution technology has relegated it to major studio networks (at least prior to the advent of YouTube, and even that’s so young there still isn’t an indie tv world of the same scale as the indie film world). And also bc TV networks are predominantly advertiser funded, which means shows for most of television history were handpicked to appeal to the demos advertisers were trying to reach (which for much of TV history was middle class white women, because the assumption was those women controlled household spending and had the most disposable income). HBO had a radical impact on TV history because it was subscription funded rather than ad funded, and pulled most of those subscribers by trying to appeal to demos which the TV networks neglected, which means it had more creative freedom. But even so, in order to fund its work which was more artistically driven it relied (at least in the early days) on the creation of R-rated, gratuitous shocker television to bring in subscribers who were dissatisfied with network TV (mostly middle class white men).
But so much of how we understand and analyze television is rooted in that history of it predominantly being a vehicle for advertising, something that really only began to change once we entered the “Prestige TV era” of the late 90s and early 2000s and more cable network shows began to achieve commercial dominance and artistic acclaim. And so with TV more than any other art form I think there’s a real sense of “TV should be catered to my personal interests and desires rather than pursuing any sort of broader message or more ambitious storytelling” that’s a) somewhat unconscious and b) still to a certain extent supported by advertiser-funded network TV, and it can make discussion and analysis of TV difficult. Because the truth is what makes a good network TV show is fundamentally different from what makes a good cable TV show, because the medium is the message, and also because the intent for a TV show is always to maximize a studio’s profitability, and that looks different in different mediums.
(And on top of that - the fact that there’s no indie TV community means there isn’t the kind of influence on the studios that the indie film community has on film studios. There’s no indie-TV-creator-to-studio-TV-creator pipeline, and TV creators tend to be pulled from a very small circle of ‘pedigreed’ industry names.)

I had some of this in the tags of that Mufasa movie reblog but decided to make a seperate post.
Disney rewriting their Lion King backstory as previously established in sequels and tie-ins just made me think about all of those thinkpieces on streaming and media being made to be binged and forgotten along with the warnings about companies being able to manipulate their products post-release.
Disney constantly retconning, tinkering and overwriting canon whenever they want a fresh new product, their mindset of churning out short term novelty at the expense of long term brand is pretty shocking as someone who grew up a Disney kid. How do you build the nostalgia the brand was famous for, how do you build stories that last and maintain a depth of feeling, when you have no consistency? When the next one will just overwrite the last? When you make things to be consumed and discarded?
Disney became a titan because it understood legacy and now it’s the fast fashion and single use plastics of the entertainment industry.

so piracy and information loss
5 bucks says what we experience now of searching for an episode of a series, ( for me its dr who season 3 episode 10) and coming up with a lot of “code 500″ on the first 2 pages of google, is thoroughly analogous to previous state, i know its corporate now but potato potato, censorship of “stolen” produced media.
the church lost a song that way, who is to say the egyptians weren’t inventing the idea of piracy to go after people. irregardless, this shit is bs. fucking why. the whatever shows more people watching something makes it make more money.
