this is a little spin on an idea i've been seeing around that i think is wonderful... I personally, am not in the best financial place to be donating, but i can use my platform as a game developer to help out and do something cool at the same time :3

and here's some notes, so you know what to expect:

i'll take anywhere between a few hours to a few days to finish, depends on how i'm feeling... either way, i'll tag you in a new post when i'm done!

the character will be done in small pixel art, with maybe some additional effects if i feel it works for the design

i will adjust the sprite size depending on the character-- an average sized character is drawn on a 32x32 canvas but if it's like a giant or really tall or something, i'd make it bigger so that the scale is accurate

everyone also gets a zoomed in headshot for the dialogue portrait

no secret bosses, shopkeepers, or other special story purpose for now, sorry! these are just some guys that stand around and say 1 or 2 lines as you go about your adventure

im putting the characters in various places at random, but if you want your guy to be in a certain type of location in-game let me know

this game is STILL in relatively early development-- but i do promise that each and every submission will be in there by the end! it might take yeaaaars for the full game to finally be out, but i'll be posting screenshots as I put em in the game so you know im not slacking around :>

Do you have any tips or advice for running an artists booth at a convention? I'm thinking about doing it eventually and been wanting to hear from people who have done it before :^)

yeah!!! lemme rattle off a few things off the top a my head also, pardon me 4 using amazon dot ca links for products that i mention. its just easy to find references that way (and often u can look up the brand and find their non-amazon store etc etc)

this got super long so im putting it under a cut!!

• join an artist alley group!! i'm in this artist alley discord and it is a fantastic place to get info about cons, table display ideas, manufacturer recommendations, etc. there are more than just this group out there and i think there are bigger ones but i personally really like this one ^u^ i make a ton of use of the display resources and manu recommendation channels!

• if you can afford it, be choosy about the events you apply to. there are a lot of cons out there that are fantastic, and a lot that aren't worth the trouble, and i don't necessarily mean small vs big cons. some of my fav events are smaller artist alleys local to me, and most of the artists i know avoid informa (fanexpo) like the plague. check out what other artists have to say about past events and keep an eye out for red flags: personally i find cons with really out of date/poorly advertised social medias and websites that have mismatched info are a warning sign of a mismanaged and not well attended event. • you don't need a lot of fancy display stuff to start, those sorts of things you can build up over time. im a fan of getting a ton of my display stuff from the dollar store >:)

when you're ready and need the space to display a good amount of art the main thing you wanna pick up is definitely something that gives your table some verticality, whether that's a pvc pipe style setup, pegboards, or modular cube shelving (we all used to use these big heavy grid ones until the plastic sheet covered ones came out and now we all use those. theyre cuter and lighter and fit better on a table and come in more colours yayay. im sure some people still like the grid ones since they fit gridwall accessories tho) there are lots of other ways to display stuff but these r what i am most familiar with. definitely helps to look at youtube and pinterest and discord groups for display ideas!!

another thing you will want to start is a tablecloth. not every con has their tables already covered! there are those plastic picnic ones at dollar stores, and you can thrift bedsheets/fabric too.

• depending on the type of display and art you do you'll need some way to attach signs/prints/charms/etc to your display. i just moved from blu-tack to magnets but i used to use sewing clips (back when i used the grid cubes) and before then masking tape. all of them are okay and cool! except blu-tack. don't make the same mistakes as me it adds like 40 whole minutes to teardown and it leaves gross oil on the prints after some time. evil

• if you don't have business cards you can make a sign with a qr code that links to you/your shop! there are lots of qr code makers online that u can even customize with images and colours and stuff. there will be people that wanna know how to find you again after a con!

• these days a lot of people don't bring cash to conventions and it's pretty vital to bring some sort of card reader or other digital payment method. most of us use square - they recently made it so that the phone app can accept tap! so you don't need to jump for the expensive physical readers. i've also got a paypal dot me qr code and my etransfer email (i think this is a canadian thing) on a lil sign on the table so people have lots of payment options. usually over 50% of my con income comes from non-cash sales!

• make sure to bring change!! we've forgotten in the past and done okay but it's always handy to be able to make change for people. you'll want a secure place to put cash as well, whether it's a locked moneybox that you keep out of sight or a place on your person (friend of mine uses a fanny pack!) you never wanna leave your table completely unattended but especially when it comes to the moneybox. if it's a multi day con this is an item you mustn't leave at your table overnight.

• keep count of your sales and expenses properly so that you can see how much you made at the end of the con. i really like spreadsheets but you can even just note it down in a book. here's a little example of one con for me:

• you'll want to make a checklist of stock and display stuff to bring, but don't forget to make a list of minor stuff like phone chargers and scissors and tape and glue and pens and paper. multiple types of tape and paper if possible. they don't feel super important until you're stuck because you forgot to make a price sign and have to get by with a sharpie and a napkin. don't let that be you!! dollar store sticky note pads are super useful for this type of thing.

• plan out your prices and do as much prep (counting, sign making, display planning, packing/sorting) as you can beforehand so that the event doesn't feel too stressful. make sure your merchandise is stored in an easily accessible way for you behind the table so you aren't scrambling or rummaging too much when people are asking for stuff!

• similarly, whatever you can leave out for people to just pick/grab themselves, the more of it you're likely to sell. things like stickers and charms are good for this - people like to touch stuff! and it makes it so you don't need to go fishing for items for people as frequently. generally i don't do this with more expensive items just to be safe.

• if you sell prints, people are gonna ask for sleeves to keep them safe, especially at outdoor events. sometimes people ask for sleeves/bags even if they dont buy anything. they're a good idea to have on hand and you can find em for pretty cheap online and for a bit more expensive at dollar stores (i use OPP bags. if you dont wanna use plastic you can always get paper bags/envelopes/glassine bags instead)

• a cushion for the chair is a good idea. lots of conventions have really uncomfy chairs. some folks even bring camping chairs instead!

• pack snacks/lunch/water/drinks/have lunch plans. if you have a table buddy that is able to run out for food that's always nice. you might be sitting but it uses a lot of energy to interface all day!! you'll be exhausted and hungry and it's gonna be important to get enough fuel for your brain to function properly. i genuinely would recommend juice/soda/coffee/energy dink alongside water and food if you wanna live, especially if its a multi day con. get good sleep on days between!

• if you're excited to do trades with other artists during the con, the general etiquette is to wait until later in the day/near the end when the crowds are winding down! it's always okay to ask if someone's doing trades, and don't be upset or press them if they aren't interested or have certain stuff they don't want to trade.

• speaking of con etiquette, depending on the type of vert you are (intro/extro) and or how much customer service experience you have, interfacing can be nervewracking. my general rule is that if they stop to look, i say Hello and let them browse. if they seem interested in my table i try and do some small talk. stuff like How are you/How's the event been for ya/compliments on their outfit/cosplay/merch they have on like pins etc are good! kids and old folks love this. as tiring as it is to do some of my favourite parts of cons is talking to nice people that like my art!! all the folks that say nice things about my work are what keep me drawing ;w; i keep my sketchbook with me to jot down/doodle nice and funny encounters just cus it makes me happy to look back on XD

• when it's teardown time try to put stuff away as neatly as you can. you might be tired and just wanna toss all your stuff into whatever it is you brought it in but i promise future you (especially next-con you) will be so thankful that you put all your price signs into one baggie etc etc.

• speaking of bringing and putting away merch - you'll need a way to get it all from your home/car to your table and back. lots of people use dollies and other types of utility cart (i can guarantee there are a bunch of those grandma grocery ones at your local thrift store!!) - i personally use a big luggage bag and a collapsible wagon, but back in the day we used to CARRY bin after bin of stuff from the car and back in multiple trips which i would NOT reccomend lol. not every convention hall is easily accessible or close to parking so not having to lift stuff if you can avoid it is gonna be vital.

i vagguelly knew abt otherkin stuff beforehand but that was like. very vague and more in the lense of "eww cringe" bc that was all that was talked abt it

fast forward to me being 16 or so (maybe 17?) and i decide that today on www.tumblr.com im gonna go through the werewolf tag, and between all the art and poems abt werewolves i view a few werewolfkin posts and i go "huh.. thats interesting" bc i only vaguely heard of it but never really looked into it

so i dip my toes into it, and fall into the lake completely, and now im here

from which i will give some advice:

disclaimer: most of this advice comes from a psychological kin perspective, for spiritual stuff i can gather some info if you ask me but overall im not spiritual kin

1: sometimes the answer is not too clear, being alterhuman can stem from many reasons and overlap with many other things, furryness, autism, psychosis, spiritual beliefs, familiarity and importance to an animal or myth, a lot can play into it! for some beings, the experiences are very separate from each other, for others, they may cause each other or be linked or overlap, it can all depend and change around, so dont stress too much on whats what, but if you wish, you can play around and see what belongs to what, ive had the fact im a furry sometimes overlap with the fact im otherkin, and even fuel each other, but i still see them as separate identities, its all a big complicated soup. and i will say to just fuck around and see what labels you see fit

figuring out your kintype can take a while, and its not uncommon that what you first consider to be your kintype may not be the one that you actually feel you are. for example my first through upon discovering kin stuff was that i may be a cat, ive loved cats since i was practically born, ive always wanted to be a cat and themed myself around cats, hell my fursona is a cat! turns out im not one, ive tried and figured stuff out and experimented and well a cat just wasnt it. from this i'd just say to explore different animals or mythic beasts or types of robot etc etc

from that, what has helped me personally to figure out kintype stuff is to see what you desire feel and act, what kind of environment do you crave for? forests? mountains? deserts? theres a lot! what do you wish your body looked like? everyone talks about wanting claws and fangs and such but really think about it, what do you want for your body? what would make you happier? what would make you see your body more as your true self? any particular diet you have or wish to have? any behaviors you've derived from a being? maybe you hiss maybe you bark maybe you knead. do you feel limbs that arent there? such as ears? tails? horns? just look around outside and inside to see what you crave what you do what you want and such

one thing that i did while trying to figure out kin stuff was to just. draw how i view myself in my mind, and not concentrate on design or what i like and dislike on character designs, just like, draw what comes to mind on an "ideal body", you shift around features from the vague idea of who you are in your mind, draw different tails draw different snouts draw different body shapes, and see what fits and sticks, sometimes you can land on yes "thats exactly me", sometimes you can land on "its a vague idea of me but can aid me in figuring it out". thats kinda how it lead to me figuring out im primatekin, i had multiple different attempts and sketches of what i think i look like in my mind, and i just kept going until much trial and error later i found something. it went from "humanoid?" to "halfly animal-like" to "has a long tail" to "small and expressive" and eventually to a primate! (and thats how my mizamonkey design came to be QSHFHD). again for some this may bring a concrete design while to others it may be just a vague guide, not every tip works for everyone.

despite a few points ago where i stated that being obsessed with an animal or myth doesnt always equal to it being your kintype, it sometimes can be! and its sometimes how kintypes can originate to people (if we're taking the psychological otherkin route, this doesnt work too well with spiritual otherkin). sometimes youre just so obsessed and interested with an animal or myth or fiction trope that your brain kinda, adopts it for your identity. this is what happened to me for werewolves, since i was a wee lad ive been OBSESSED with werewolves and i read about them and drew about them and made stories about them that my brain has seemingly just. grabbed it and went "thats you". so look into your childhood or current state of living and see what animals and beings and such you connect with! again just as a few points ago, it doesnt always mean its your kintype, but it can be!

being alterhuman is different for everyone, i sometimes still think of this message i saw ages ago that went "ask 10 therians what being a therian means for them, and you get 11 different answers", so just because this otherkin experiences xyz, doesnt mean everyone does, and vice versa! i used to have a lot of stress about this bc i felt like i was a faker bc i didnt experience like others but after a while i managed to mellow out on it and its making me feel better!

related to that i would be careful about the resources you seek out bc from my experience seeking out resources has been a very 50/50, some tips and advice is great! while others are just why would you follow that. use your critical mind and see what suits you and what helps you.

this is more a personal opinion but i feel like the whole "choosing your kintype" debacle doesnt have a correct and concrete answer. to me if you were to just choose whatever kintype you want it may not actually be the kintype you feel like you are. i would absolutely choose to be a wolverine if i could! but it just doesnt align with my kintype and i cant force it as my kintype even if i tried. i would say that you can "try out" kintypes to see if it fits, its all about experimenting after all. its just that for most, its not as easy as pick and choose. its mainly bc your freely chosen kintype may just not be who you are, if you wanna choose a kintype either way, the community has adopted the term "copinglink" for such. for most alterhumans they did not choose their kintype. again its about trial and error

overall its going to be a lot of trial and error to figure stuff out. it took me 2 years to finally land on my proper kintypes! you may find kintypes and you may drop them. you may find yourself to not be otherkin after all! if you want more personal tips and questions you can message me here or on discord! First, I wanted to say thanks for all the work you do, you can tell you put a lot of effort and care into it!

Second, I wanted to ask if you had any possible advice for creating black zombie characters?

I really love zombies and enjoy making zombie characters and drawing zombies. Though, I draw quite cartoonishly and when I draw them I tend to make them that cartoony shade of zombie green as well, y'know? I was wondering if you knew how I would go about this- like if I ought to maybe make the skin more on the grey-ish side(since you mentioned that grey-ish skintone bases make the characters look ashen/less-alive recently) Or perhaps sticking with a similar shade of green, but making sure to include more defining black features? I'm mostly looking for tips about appearance, but I'm happy to get any advice you're able to give!

I hardly ever see black zombies in art(I see them in movies/shows and games occasionally, but never really in art!) and I wanna help change that, if I can. Im sorry if this is a bit clumsily worded- I hope you know I do not mean this ask in a rude or disrespectful way(due to the subject matter of (un)dead characters)! I just really love zombies!!

Um, this really is in the same zone as the sickness question. We'd still look like Black people, but dead lmao. In varying stages of decay too, if you're discussing zombies. My partner suggested watching some clips from The Walking Dead and try to spot Black zombies amongst the extras, so there's an idea!

If you're going with the cartoony idea of making them green skinned, as long as I can tell they were Black when they were alive (unless they're damn near a skeleton) I don't see the issue. If you make everyone that's a zombie green, it'll just match the style. So that's easy enough.

But if you're going for an actual decaying look, I think it would be worth looking into stages of decay on bodies as a whole. What types of injuries do they have and how did that affect them as zombies? (For example, if a Black person got a deep cut prezombie, that cut would be healed either brown or pink depending on depth, versus a post zombie cut would just be... Bloody. Probably not bruising either bc there's no healing going on. But I'm not a doctor, so don't quote me on that. The book I tagged would likely help you, too!)

In my grad program I once saw the recently dead body of a Black lady, and what disturbed me wasn't that she "looked" dead, but that she didn't. Other than her eyes being far gone... She looked the same.

Now, this (and the sickness one too!) also ties into undertones. When we die, the blood leaves our bodies and pools wherever the gravity is. So if we're in a burial position, or we've been drained of blood, the blood will leave your face. Now, on black people, that means our undertone will be pallid. It's the way Black people "blanch"; like we as a WHOLE don't turn pale, but our undertone will change bc it's physiological. (Now, based on our complexion, it's easier to see that on some more than on others!)

ok look i know im not saying anything that anyone hasn't heard before but i wanna take a second to talk about Deidara's relationship with art, and his relationship with himself.

A lot of people like to call Deidara one of the more normal Akatsuki members, given that art is just one of his silly quirks, and his more monstrous features are kept to a minimum design wise.

I just feel like in comparison to someone like political terrorist puppet man sasori or “cultist loves the taste of blood” hidan, he seems a little more “normal” but lets not forget Deidara blew himself up because. *checks notes.* Itachi put him in a genjutsu once. I mean that’s really all it is at it’s base.

Art is his obsession and we know this but it really is what makes Deidara a frightening, and unstable person.

Sasori said that Deidara seemed like the type to die young, and I doubt that was because he thought that Deidara wasn’t skilled. I mean I don’t think anyone thought that considering he was being recruited into the akatsuki but still lol.

But he literally spends the first few minutes of their interaction showing his whole hand. Clearly, he’s proud of his art, but a more experienced Shinobi may not show/ramble about his personal mantras and show clay sculptures that explode right off the bat. To explain his jutsu, even under the guise of describing his artistic vision, is just bad practice. Deidara doesn’t see that, and when Itachi cuts things short, Deidara is eager to prove his worth to total strangers, even when he doesn’t have to.

Deidara is incredible for his age, but I think (Sasuke? lol)kurotsuchi said it best when his weakness is his obsession with art. The fact that it consumes everything he does gives him tunnel vision. He doesn’t see the forest for the trees. Take Sasuke for example. Sasuke asked where Itachi was, they fought, and sasuke barely gave him 15 words the whole exchange before Deidara decided he was looking down at him. Interaction that other Shinobi wouldn’t give another thought to, Deidara sees as a personal slight.

I really just feel like Deidara is just a really lonely person, and art is the solace that he clings to. Sasori is more well adjusted(relatively speaking) because he has more to him than just his art, and connections with other people(negative or positive). He had Chiyo in his childhood, and in his adulthood, while no one was close to him, he'd earned the respect of many shinobi.

Deidara had no one in the village, and he has no one now, and the only thing that keeps him "relevant" so to speak is, again, his art. it's directly related to his place in this world, and Deidara clings to that philosophy because he genuinely feels like his life depends on it.

To Deidara, Sasori was the only person who understood what it was like to have art as his life, and we can see that in the way Deidara acts around Sasori vs the way his personality changes when he's gone.

When Sasori is alive, Deidara is calm, confident, and self assured.

When Sasori dies, and his partner changes to Tobi, whose backhanded comments and foolish nature seem to mock him, we can see Deidara become desperate, eager for some kind of control. Clinging to the role of Senpai between him and Tobi, Deidara doesn't have anything else but his art.

It's just no wonder that a mindset like this set him up for failure. he's struggling so hard for recognition from someone that it's basically a sport for him.

symbolism wise, the way that his ultimate art spreads though his body like a virus and consumes him when he finally does do himself in is just the icing on the cake.

tldr. make deidara more crazy about art in ur fics and other works. its literally the only thing he has and he's very mentally unstable about it.

I still want to draw fan art but Im struggling to not get uncomfortable. Basically, I have both love and hate for the game now, and you seem like a cool person so Im wondering how you deal with that. first of all, id like to mention that the art i posted just now was art that i had finished last night, before everything about mcpig came to light and i just wanted to post it since i already had it done…still unsure if im going to draw consistent pizza tower in the future honestly, id like to because its a lot of fun and i really do love a lot about the game. ideally, the current situation would change somehow so i can do that without any discomfort for myself or others, but the only way i foresee that happening is if the devs actually remove the racist shit from the game

what makes me feel (kind of) okay about producing fanart for the game despite what emerged is mostly the fact that as long as i am not reproducing the harmful contents of the game, nor directly supporting the people behind it, im not putting any harm into the world or perpetuating the 4chan stuff i guess? the only thing im really worried about is possibly getting people to want to buy the game by putting my fanart out there, but considering the games popularity from streaming and youtube videos i dont see my own art as contributing to that much. that makes it easier for me not to feel unsettled when i draw fanart for it, but i think that depends on how you view the relationship between fanart and source material, especially in an interactive space like the internet. if you think your art risks sending the message that you approve of negative aspects of a piece of media then its probably better not to share that art

theres also the fact that from the messages that were revealed i get the impression that at some point mcpig had a sort of disdain for "cringe leftists" being fans of the game i guess, and i would consider myself someone who he would/would have found cringe at one point lol. so by being into the game its kind of a fuck you idc that you hate me, this thing you made is being enjoyed by cringe leftists. considering the tone of some of the messages was "if people get mad at me im just going to be edgy in response" i dont even think disengaging with the game would even bother him at all. but all of that is really just speculation and i dont want to insinuate that engaging with bigoted media is proactive just because you are a marginalized person or have progressive politics. its important to actually weigh the harm of your actions and what effect you have with your consumption of said media i dont really know if thats a good answer though, and if it holds up to any sort of moral judgement. i do think its possible to enjoy problematic media, but considering how new the game is its not the kind of thing i can look at and be like "this piece of media is from x years ago and doesnt do real harm now". my worst fear is that there are pizza tower fans who are going to see the awful shit in the game and replicate it, bc the game somehow makes them thinks theres nothing wrong with it or that they can do so without consequence. just from a scope of the fandom there seem to be a lot of young teenagers so Yeah. im concerned in that regard and id like to beam a message into kids' brains thats just like Hey this character design/behavior fucking sucks Dont do this

so, by posting my art anyway i hope i can contribute to a portion of the fanbase that is outwardly against the bigoted content in the game, as an alternative to mcpig dick riders/defenders. and if there are any fans out there involved in the community who dont know better, hopefully they can learn, and avoid perpetuating bigotry

all that being said, your feelings on the matter may be very different, and you dont have to abide to any of this thinking. if a piece of media is upsetting you, its okay to step away from it as long as you need. maybe see how you feel when you come back to it and if the hateful feelings are still there, there is no obligation to engage further

(and as a bottom line if anybody reading this is considering playing pizza tower i suggest you pirate it instead of paying for it)

I wanted to ask for your own potential headcanons regarding the miles and ganke’s relationship dynamics.

(I.e. marriage, any arguments, what they’re like living together,…. possible future kids👀, etc.)

Ok Imma type the rest cuz my hand is getting tired

-Miles and 20 and Ganke is 19 when they move out. Ganke and Miles see their families once a week.

-I’ve said this before but Miles doesn’t go to college. He trains under Misty Knight and works with S.H.E.I.L.D more as he’s learning more about detective work (and is lowkey preparing to take over as the the new Spider-Man leader once Peter retires)

-Ganke is going to school for tech shit but eventually changes is major to social work (there’s a huge reason for this that I’ll get into in another post)

-They end up adopting a black cat that was called Midnight at the shelter but never really responded to the name. The people working at the shelter said “looks like she chose you” seeing how well she bonded with Ganke immediately. He renamed her CoCo. She’s a sweet girl, a little weird though.

-They aren’t super PDA with each other but much like how Peter and MJ are in my AU (who also aren’t super PDA) you could hear a conversation they’d have with each other and be like “oh! They really care for each other”

-they switch chores and household responsibilities depending on work and school scheduling

-They can both be workaholics AND night owls so they constantly have to hold each other accountable for yknow…resting.

-they make a specific day out of the week where they both do nothing having to do with school or work. They just sleep in and have a slow morning and watch Burn Notice all day and talk about nothing and anything all at once.

-They’re both not screamers when they argue but can throw some hurtful words around that they regret saying once they cool down. Also Ganke can be dismissive when he’s irritated or angry. Something they learn to work on overtime.

-Big spoon/Little spoon is interchangeable depending on how they sleepin that day.

-Miles is the better cook. He like cooks well without even trying. It infuriates Ganke but he can’t be too mad cuz he gets to eat the food.

-It would be 5 years before Miles pops the big question.

-Miles is a giant sap who knew he was gonna marry Ganke the moment they started dating.

-He would propose at the park. He proposed there because that’s where they would have playdates when they were kids.

-Ganke just laughs because he planned on proposing to him a week later. He obviously says yes.

-The wedding isn’t big. They make sure to save a seat for Gankes dad. He put a framed picture on his chair to represent his attendance.

-They do the same for Uncle Aaron despite him and Miles’s tumultuous relationship.

-Hobie is the best man

-Gwen is the maid of honor

-It would be about 3 years or so before they meet 2 super powered little ones, a boy and a girl. They’re fraternal twins. They end up adopting the twins.

I've been trying to learn how to draw and I love your art style so much I've been practicing by copying it (just in my notebook not like sharing it anywhere) as I love the way you capture characters and emotion but I was wondering how do you go about simplifying a character? I'm not sure if this makes sense but like what do you look for when taking realistic looking characters and translating them into a stylistic version?

Thank you for the ask! keep tracing and copying, its a great way of building the muscle memory and familiarizing yourself with breaking things down into shapes. It means a lot that my art is something that you wanted to use that for! https://twitter.com/meatgirI/status/1606375868959543298?s=20&t=ve-GgU0nMrUBRZnTj0kI3Q I would say that this tweet by meatgiri is a good way of finding different facial features and breaking the face/eyes/nose into shapes, and that its a really good way of getting started. However I also think that learning proportions and anatomy is a really good way of further pushing this skill. im going to explain it a bit, but if it feels overwhelming or makes art something thats not fun, you dont have to use any of it. youll pick up these things through practice and observation.

I like trace out these lines on my face. they follow these proportions that are applicable to almost all people. once ive got this figured out, i start to fill in the eyes, nose and mouth.

(some examples of characters... see how this rule still applies even though they look very different.

again see the tutorial i linked above to get a feel for breaking these facial features into shapes. this is what i would suggest to practice different types of faces if you dont have a super good understanding of facial structure

as you observe more in faces, you notice a lot of difference in face shape and structure. but this is a really good way to play with JUST facial features and maintain them consistently

if you want to get into facial structure, then you wanna start looking at the actual anatomy

try to picture where your face sits on your skull. this can help you decide how MUCH of the bone sticks out from under the face. if you are underweight, older, or have shaper facial features, youre going to see a lot more off things like cheekbones

so now even though im using the same skull as a base, i can still have a different face shape. because this person might be older, they have a stronger jawline, and their features are sunken in

and the cool thing is that this isnt just applicable from a 3/4th angle. the proportions are always like that!! they might change because of perspective or the angle but honestly at that point youd want to start trying to develop your sense of 3d space

this is just a really simple way of diversifying one single method of drawing faces. notice how i only used the one "base" shape

and here you can see examples of how their faces sit on the skull. obviously you dont need to be drawing perfectly anatomical skulls every time you draw a person, but it does make good practice to trace those shapes. basically training yourself to get better at observing different features!

you can get into even more varying features when you start to use different skull shapes too. all of these characters have different skull shapes and their features change depending on how they sit on that skull

here is a good demonstration of anatomically correct differences in skulls of different races. Obviously i tend to think of it as masculine/feminine rather than male/female, but this is a scientific model used for identification (which is based off of sex and not gender)

age can also play into your skull shape and facial proportions. combining all of this knowledge you can not only have a wide range of different characters, but you can also tell a story.

again the less fat you have on your face, the more sunken in your features are going to be. so you can tell your audience about your character just from this alone

this is a good example. its a soldier before and after war. you can see how the stress, trauma, living conditions, etc, have all changed how he looks.

obviously this is getting into the real nitty gritty anatomical aspect of it but i do think its a really good way to have your characters feel like they belong to the environment they are in. it also just further illustrates my point earlier, how you can have MANY different types of faces even if you are using the same base for all of them. again if this seems overwhelming, its ok! a lot of this is stuff you pick up via observation as you continue practicing. draw what makes you comfortable, draw what you think is fun, and start off simple. Also know that you really dont need to be going into such detail and drawing the skulls haha. thats really just moreso to demonstrate the fundamental understanding. Good luck with art, keep pushing yourself to learn more and draw what you see!! youll pick up on all these subtle details as you keep at it

honestly I feel like cahiers are decent with posca because theyre not really absorbent and posca marks tend to sit on the page as opposed to soaking through anyways. umm i wouldnt like... use it to do a whole posca piece or anything but i use poscas just for pops of color in my sketchbook pretty often and it holds up ok. sometimes u can see the shadow of the color through the paper bc its thin but thats mostly it. i took pics of some sketchbook pgs and how the back of the page looks so you can see for yourself ( cw for bakudeku LOL ) ...theres a lot of like.. normal brush pen ink and india ink that penetrates the paper more like even compared to the black posca

I feel like I’ve probably talked about this before in another ask post but i dont really think about style because its one of those things that artists should try to change depending upon intention, what you’re drawing and what you want to communicate etc. what people often recognize as style are quirks that an artist maintains throughout changing their subject and approach.....ANYWAYS. thats all to say my style probably just comes out of normal stuff like looking at other art and thinking “I want to do that” or trying out different mediums and methods and settling with whatever feels the best LOL. It’s always changing & growing! Because I’m always learning new stuff!

Theres a lot! I really like the scene when daisukes lying awake in bed thinking abt how ken’s heartbeat felt. And the scene when they have a sleepover and ken wakes up first and looks over to daisuke sleeping LOL idk subtle stuff you can read very clearly as like burgeoning queer moments.. theyre recognizable from my own queer childhood and i love that in a kids anime. also at the end of the series when theyre fighting the final boss dude and ken grabs daisukes arm to ask him to jogress but hes shivering and daisuke just turns to say “youre shaking....” and in revenge of diaboromon when ken goads daisuke into endurance running by taunting him about soccer LOL (jock romance). but one i rly want to mention is theres this youtube video about how ken and daisuke’s honorifics change over the course of the series and how significant it is when they switch over to first name basis and honestly i think about it a lot THEY HAVE GREAT SCENES!! I love ken and daisuke

What are your thoughts on abstract art?

i think its fascinating from a psychological standpoint, both from the creator and the consumer.

art in general has been used as a form of expression since the dawn of time and i think that at it's core, that is what it was made for. to give artists the ability to express themselves in various ways. that's also part of the reason that i think art is so subjective and why i love it so much: anything can be art if you want it to be.

i love art and the people who make it because i love seeing how people can find new and interesting ways to show emotion, how they use colors and shapes to illustrate feeling.

and abstract art (mostly) does do that! artists who genuinely feel for their abstract are so cool because if it's genuine, there's so much thought and passion behind it that i want to know about. every shape and stroke can change the meaning behind the piece.

i also love watching people interpret abstract art. sometimes, the meaning behind it can just click for some people, while others find it unintelligible. every artwork can have a million different meanings, and that is so undeniably special that i can't help but adore it.

however. i do have some issues with abstract art, but the thing is usually they're issues with the handling and use of it instead of the art itself.

what's changed nowadays is everyone has become obsessed with profiting off art. people realised that it's valuable and therefore they can make money off it. and with this, came insincere copies. fake art with no emotion, no thought behind it.

this is my main problem with a lot of "types" of art nowadays. i have no problem with people profiting off things they love, but people don't love the abstract art that they make anymore. there's a clear difference between selling art you made with care (commissions, paintings, ect) and selling art for the sake of selling it.

honestly i have the same opinion about this as i do about most types of "new art". ai generators, nft's, "abstract art" (which is just someone throwing paint at a canvas and selling it for a million dollars). i'd have less of a problem with it if the people who made it actually gaf, but it's clear by now that the only people who actually contribute to things like that are people who are just in it for the money. its trashy and sad, most of all for all the other artists who often spend their entire lives devoted to learning how do Make Thing Good.

if you wanted a personal opinion on the art itself (since i actually havent given that lmao) it depends on the piece. im the kind of person who is literally happy when i see a couple of colors that i think compliment each other, it doesn't take much to please me LOL. shapes and colors make me :0

uhh TL;DR - i like abstract art usually, because i like the thought that goes into it. people kinda ruined it while trying to profit off it though. the art itself makes me happy in the same way seeing a cool looking bird makes me happy. its neat (most of the time)

Here are the last pages of my sketchbook+something im gonna put in the new one

First page is concept art for a future location in my comic. I've been doing a lot of renditions of the same place, because I want to try everything before I put it in the comic, since after that I can't change it.

Next is a random doodle I decided to color with my alcohol markers. Have'nt used those in years, but I wanted to add some color to my sketchbook. It worked suprisingly well on this paper, which makes me a bit sad I didn't try it before lol

After that I made some concept art for a robot in Old Blood. If you follow my sideblog you might've seen my huge lore dump about the robots, but tldr there's now a few types of robots, and this one is the "animalistic" type. Considering I didn't sketch at all, the perspective is actually decent. On the right of that is just me using up the left over paint I had. I always do this because I dont want to waste paint. I never plan anything with them, I just throw paint on the page and see what comes out.

On the last pages I have sketches of fantady creatures inspired by Pliny the Elder's animal descreptions. Most of them dont have a real counterpart, except the scorpion. I used the descreptions, the illustrasions, and the real animals (because a lot of times he would describe stuff like "head of a badger", "legs of a stag" etc). Theres a lot of interesting stuff there. Completly innaccurate, but facinating lmao.

Last pics are of a painting I did on a saparate piece of paper, since I'm not 100% sure of which sketchbook should I use next...

Either way I'm gonna glue it there when I choose. As for what I painted, this is more concept art for the comic / Old Blood. The idea is like a fire forest. I got inspired by the practice of controlled fires in forests, and of trees that take advantage of periodic fires to spread their seeds. I just pushed the idea of a fire dependent forest to the extreme.

Next to it is what I used the leftover paint on. I had a sketchbook I got when I finished highschool from my art major, and the paper there is... kinda bad so I knew I'm not gonna choose this one. It ended up looking pretty cool, and I might use this as concept art as well.

Overall I've been really enjoying messing around with gouache, but now I want to get back to digital, and to the comic. It's been... way too long since I worked on it. And the idea of changing the style of it excites me.

i nearly dropped dead when i saw this ask LETS GOOOOOOO!

since i have like, a lot of ocs, i'll just talk about my comfort ocs/ the ones im currently obessing over

first we have UX (blue gem) and Faith (purple gem) they're both acutally used to be one god but got spilt into two demi gods and they're both perfectly happy this way though they have no memory of the god they use to be.

UX tends to be the more reckless one but she does care about everyone close to her, she just doesn't think much first. her powers are fire, crystals and shapeshifting, she also has a photogentic memory that she considers a curse. her temper can also sometimes gets the better of her that she'll explode into flames

Faith is very much UX's opppsite, quiet, resevred, smart, he likes spending time reading and staying inside, his powers are electricity, stone, he can shapeshift like UX but he can never figure it out, his memory is of a slice of bread-- his head is empty, sometimes he just forgets he lives with UX, he also has the power to see into the future…but due to his memeroy issues he'll forget what he saw

now for my undertale ocs, Eraz, calcite and Tictoc! together they make up a team called the 'Snooze Squad' (think of them as a bootleg star sanses)

Eraz is the 'leader' of the group, though they prefer to laze around and not do their job, of course they deeply care about their teammate and will throw themsevles into battle if trouble rises. they also like spicy food and spicy sauces, Eraz is not a sans they just stole the face off a Sans (they 'promise' to give it back). Also they're a huge book/lore nerd, ask them about AUs and books and you'll be stuck in a 4 hour ramble

Calcite is a good boy, not very smart but his heart is in the right place, he's a glitch corrupted by negative magic but that doesn't seem to stop him from being a bundle of joy, he likes to eat chalk (purple colored ones are his favorite) Calcite is a sans though no one really knows what type though due to the fact that he wears a scarf some think he's some form of a swap sans, the tear marks on his cheeks can change depending on his mood (like hearts, stars or frowny faces)

Tic Toc doesn't really know where they came from since his AU was destroyed beyond repair and he was left to rot there, he's not a sans but a ghost with a robot host (like mettaton), he was the first one to be found by Eraz and since then he's been loyal to them…even if he disproves their laziness

hii! sorry im new to art programs and the like but i saw your art and i was wondering what program do you use? and what your brush settings for sketching and line art are?

hi! thanks so much for the ask :) this will be kiinda long, so sorry if this is too much. I use Clip Studio Paint EX for drawing, purchased wayyy before the whole subscription thing happened with them. If there still is a one-time-purchase option, I recommend getting Clip Studio Paint PRO (unless you're interested in animation, then I recommend EX). Otherwise I recommend Krita (free) or Paint Tool SAI (not free). I liked Paint Tool SAIs layout so much that I adopted it into Clip Studio, I also adopted one specific marker brush from SAI into my Clip Studio as well (I'll talk on that later).

Clip Studio is really versatile to each user, and there are tons of options to customize and create your own assets. There's also a massive user-based asset shop where you can download tooonnnss of brushes, 3D models, image materials, etc. I find myself routinely going to the Assets shop to find stuff for a drawing I'm working on.

While I do like Paint Tool SAI, it gets pretty crunchy easily, and the layer types are rather primitive. Clip Studio's quality in comparison is far superior, but this isn't to say you can't create something amazing with SAI (a lot of my early art is from SAI).

Krita is a program I couldn't ever really get into, but that's just personal taste for me. I do recommend it overall because it's free, open-source, and is extremely customizable to your specific art flow. There are tons of guides of how to use it, customize it, download brushes, etc.

On the topic of brushes, I'm kind of stale tbch. I only like to stick with a few brushes at a time, and the stabilization on those brushes tend to be very high because my hands are shaky. My primary brush I use for both sketching and lineart most of the time is a copy of the Paint Tool SAI marker brush. Here's the current setting i have it on:

It's a very simple brush in practice, just a no texture, circular-shaped pen that has minimal anti-aliasing and a couple levels of taper (runoff after lifting your pen). I change the opacity depending on if I'm sketching something or doing lineart.

If I'm looking for a more bold kind of lineart but has same texture and feel the SAI marker does, though, I go for Clip Studio's Turnip Pen, like this:

Every now and then, however, I'll use a pencil brush for lineart, I tend to use Clip Studio v2's design pencil for that. I did have to adjust it some, here's where it have it:

Overall, though, your experience with your art comes from you. What I've listed here might be some help, but in the end it's up to your flow how you work with it. I've tried other people's brushes and settings before but in the end I usually come back to my little selection of brushes because I am but a creature of habit, and this works for me :)
