The day had come and went, casting a familiar haze onto the walls of your bedroom. The large windows of the stadium rooms proved useful, showering your intertwined bodies with the last haze of sun before the night's frost took over. It was times like these you wished the days never ended, you wished the night never came. With the slow descent of the sun, you saw the rift begin to pull the two of you apart, because every night like clockwork- she made her way back to him.

“Abby..” You spoke, hand running through her honeyed waves as you felt her shift on your chest. You loved her, in every sense of the word, which is why you’d taken to being the best friend she needed. Though, now, the feeling had blossomed in your chest- making you want to be much closer than friends.

The girl made a small noise of acknowledgement, her face buried in the fabric that covered your stomach, muffling her words- if she spoke any.

It was moments like this where you thought, for just a second, that she loved you. Her body was relaxed, full weight tossed upon you as if you were the only person in the world. She hadn’t spoken in an hour, allowing the silence to fill the drift between the two of you, something you’d noticed she couldn’t do with him. It was reserved solely for you. And as much as it hurt, you soaked these moments up- taking the love she’d give you greedily. God only knows when she’d take it away and trade it for the comfort of the man she called boyfriend.

“I-..,” You couldn’t find the words to say to her, though you had so much to say. You wanted to spit it all out, to tell her the depth of your devotion to her, to let her know that you would always be hers. Even if she wasn’t yours. Your heart was trapped in a limbo, perpetually captured by a girl who seemed to only have eyes for one other and wrapped up in these moments of pure bliss that furthered your deluded imagination. “Nevermind.” You whisper in defeat, not willing to risk the domesticity you’d become so familiar with.

How did it even come to this? How did you go from being friends to whatever this was? Just a year ago you’d never imagined even being able to hug the wry girl but now here you were, watching the sunset drop below the horizon with the girl so close she might as well have been a part of you. It would never make sense to you, the pace in which you’d gained the trust and love of someone so naturally off put by people. Maybe it was the whole reason you were found by the washington liberation front, maybe it was some fucked up fate you’d been allowed for the sins of your past. Whatever it was, you thanked it.

You always knew that somehow this would end in heartbreak, as you only were granted these moments when Owen was away. When the dove in your arms felt free enough to fly home to you. Was it real? You didn’t know and didn’t want to ask.

In the light of dusk, she was yours.

Abby shifted, turning enough to be able to look up at you with doe eyes. “I love you, (y/n). I don’t know what I'd do without you.” She whispered, settling back in to rest on your soft tummy. It was so simple with her, or at least it should’ve been, the love was so pure. You couldn’t imagine anyone else being in a place you reserved so especially for her.

The words made your heart leap, and once she turned away, your eyes pricked with the blossom of tears. As she rested upon you, you watched as her free hand toyed with the necklace that Owen had gotten her for her birthday. You wanted her. You needed her. She was so close but somehow still out of reach, yearning did nothing when the object of your affections was actively thinking of someone else whilst with you. You tasted metal from how hard you bit your tongue.

“I love you too, Abs.” Was all you could muster, chest slightly hiccuping as you bit back the sobs that bubbled in you. You dared not disturb the girl, watching as her hand dropped to rest upon your free one. It was so simple, but it filled your stomach with guilty knots. You spent so long longing for her touch, only to get it and think of the man she had waiting for back in her room. It made you sick to your stomach to think of how she loved him, how much he took for granted as he complained about her excessive display of care. It made you so fucking sick.

But right now, she was yours.

Softly leaning into your touch every time you ran a hand through her hair, sighing in contentment as you drew tiny patterns into her exposed shoulders, murmuring small ‘i love you’s’ as she fell in and out of love sleep.

Before you knew it, the girl had begun letting out small snores, falling asleep and effectively trapping you beneath her. Her back rose and fell with every breath she took, mesmerizing you as you mapped out constellations her freckles had made a map of. It was as if her life story was here, recorded in tiny brown dots along her rosy skin. It made you draw a soft breath as you let your hand ghost over the spots, thinking of how much love you carried in the depths of your heart for her. More love than she had freckles to account for.

The silver chain of her necklace caught your attention as you admired her, and for a moment you wanted to laugh. Owen had gotten her silver. You never really paid much mind, but now you wished you had.

Everyone knew that Abby Anderson wore gold.

after much ethnographic immersion, i have determined that as of 2022, there's actually a roughly equal number of erik stans & charles stans in the current cherik fandom. they just happen to exist in entirely separate spheres & seem to be unaware that the other group exists. if you are suffering from fandom fatigue as a result of feeling that everyone else woobifies your unfavorite, i recommend some kind of cultural exchange that would expose you to a different circle of cherik shippers, because the one thing we can all agree on is that anons whining that everyone else in fandom is so stupid & wrong & annoying is possibly the most annoying thing of all.

Inner Space presents: "Channel Z3r0"

Inner Space is a musical duo that recently released a brand new project called "Channel Z3r0." This track is an excellent example of producing vapor waves with an experimental touch.

The album features nine tracks, and each song has something quite special to offer, highlighting Inner Space's incredible versatility. One of the most distinctive traits of this album is the energy and drive that fuels the artist's performance. The vocals feel animated and spontaneous, indicating that the performer genuinely connects with their lyrics. There is a deeper concept behind the songwriting, adding weight to the mix.

In addition to the personable and edgy performance, this release stands out for its production quality. The mix is balanced and detail-oriented, making for a lively, edgy and stark sonic approach. The songs on this album shine because of the many elements that come together to create a truly immersive listening experience overall. "Morning Program" is another great track, which highlights Inner Space's ability to create unique textures. In this case, the song utilizes deep ambient textures and unique sudden bursts of electronic noises and sounds to add more of of an organic twist to the mix. The song "A word from our Sponser" is a truly dynamic composition, and one of the most creative and one-of-a-kind tracks on this entire collection. "Afternoon Channel Surfing" follows right up with a truly interesting soundscape, which feels incredibly dynamic and diverse. The sixth song on this album is titled "Fast Food." Clocking in at slightly over the 3-minute mark, the song combines minimalistic electronic textures with glitchy effects and some lo-fi sounds to add more character. In addition, the seventh track, "Dinner Time Viewing" is yet another example of just how much variety went into the making of these tracks, as it sports a whole new set of vibes and textures to erich the listening experience overall. The song "Feature Presentation..." has a cool old-school vibe, which some melodic synth chords and beautiful electric piano textures that add a smooth flow. The drum beat has a classic lo-fi hip-hop vibe, which really makes for a chill, gritty tone. The sounds of rain also make the song more immersive and cinematic, giving it a super laid-back vibe

In conclusion, ”Channel Z3r0" has a modern sound, but the production is not overproduced, allowing organic and "human" elements to add liveliness to the mix. I'd definitely recommend giving this one a shot, particularly if you're a fan of artists such as Blank Banshee, Nujabes, J Dilla, telepath, Lorn. This is the kind of track that will surprise you with its sonic variety and keep you on the edge of your seat due to its catchy, yet unpredictable arrangement. It's always refreshing to hear from artists who set the bar higher and push the envelope when it comes to their productions, and this certainly appears to be the case!

the sound design has always been good on this show (all the stuff aside from music, basically). and i really like what they did with this part of being in dean's head while he's turning and all the extra exterior noises kind of muffled and loud. very immersive

and i like how dean's noticed through all this that sam's heart rate isn't elevated. also makes me wonder what sam's thinking with all this, if he doesn't realize something is wrong/different at this point. is it, doesn't know it's wrong/wrong doesn't apply to him because now he's effectively got antisocial personality disorder?

The Marvelous Land of Oz by the Toronto Civic Light Opera Company

 The Civic Light Opera Company has released their second audiobook, following from their first, reading L. Frank Baum's The Marvelous Land of Oz. It's currently only on MP3CD, allowing for a much longer runtime than a traditional audio CD. The production runs for nearly four hours. Some more modern CD players can play MP3CDs (if you're not sure, check your manual or packaging, if you still have them), or you can play it on a home entertainment disc player, or play it on a computer with a disc drive or use the computer to copy the files to a device. For my listen through, I used my home entertainment setup, popping it in my 4K disc player and playing it through my soundbar. (I did have to select the "music" profile on the soundbar's remote to make it sound fine.) Wound up playing it from beginning to end. I want to commend Joe Cascone and company for continuity. It's quality narration by Joe Cascone, with a cast of performers hopping in to give their own interpretations of the characters. Cast members from the Wizard audiobook reprise their roles when available, and others pop up in new roles, for example, David Haines, the Cowardly Lion of the company of stage and audio, takes on Jack Pumpkinhead. In addition, sound effects and classical music are used to enhance the experience. There were times that the sound effects sounded so realistic I had to check on my cat to make sure she wasn't causing some sort of mischief. I was pleased and entertained by the new production. Some of the casting made the characters sound older than I would personally want them to be, but it was all right. I was particularly pleasantly surprised that Mickey Brown as Mombi didn't go for a cackling witch voice as many depictions often do. A lot of fans simply interpret Mombi as another witch like the Wicked Witches of the East and West, but I feel the character is more complicated than that, and making her sound like someone who could pass for an ordinary Gillikin woman plays into that. Again, if you wanted a reading of chapter titles, the dedication and introduction, they aren't here, allowing you to immediately get immersed in the story. The way I was playing it, the track names popped up on my TV's screen. So yes, I'd recommend this production. Again, the CD is in a jewel case complete with a four-page booklet with some explanatory text about the story and images to illustrate the story. A cast list is in the tray card and photos of the cast are in the booklet. The really cool announcement is that while you can buy a copy from an eBay listing, you can also buy it direct from Joe at his new website, which also offers the first one, copies of the Songs in the Key of Oz CD, the cast recording for his Wonderful Wizard of Oz musical and CD of him singing show tunes. I recently finished Altdeus: Beyond Chronos. This is a relatively short visual novel that I kinda purchased on impulse as an occaisonal weeb VN enjoyer, and the premise of a VN in VR intrigued me. I quite liked it overall and I felt like writing some of my thoughts about it.

I won't spoil anything specific about the plot, but basically the story takes place in a world where humanity is hunkered in an underground city as the surface has been destroyed and is swarming with giant monsters called Meteora. Giant robots called Makhia are humanity's only defense against these threats. It takes a few cues from things like Evangeleon, but the primary focus is a story focused on the protagonist, Chloe, a genetically engineered super soldier who is one of two pilots of the Makhia who is dealing with grief after the loss of her best friend Coco at the hands of the Meteora. Overall the characters were pretty compelling to me. I found some of the designs a little generic in my opinion, but after a while, as each characters goals and motivations are revealed, it's easy to get heavily invested and it even had me tearing up at points in the story.

While Altdeus is a pretty competent visual novel on it's own, what makes it a little more unique is the fact it's designed for VR (although a non-VR Switch version is being released soon). This is both pretty cool and also a missed opportunity. When I think of VR experiences usually I think of cool 3D visuals or stuff where you interact with the environment to help immerse yourself in the world, but as a visual novel the interaction is barely present. There's only a handful of instances where you solve "puzzles" in the world and this usually involves picking up an object and using it on another object right next to it. The only other physically interactive moments come from the giant robot fights which are heavily scripted, only require minimal input and all play out more or less the same. At the very least the robot fights are cool to experience, each one having a hype as hell soundtrack, but they're such a small part of the game. This isn't inherently a problem but I almost feel sorry for any chumps who purchased it purely looking at the Steam page lured in by the description of "a sci-fi adventure full of robot battles" because that's borderline false advertising.

As for the rest of the experience, in true Visual Novel fashion, 90% of the time is standing there listening to characters talk and making the occaisional decision to detirmine where the story goes. As such, it's a little difficult to justify playing it in VR and why it was originally a Quest exclusive, however there are a few things where VR does enhance the experience:

The experience of fighting in a cockpit of a giant robot in VR, even with the limited interaction, is undeniably cool as hell.

Talking face to face with the characters is pretty neat.

They will also invade your personal space

You can hold hands and hug the waifus in VR.

In my mind I keep thinking of little things that I want to keep complaining about for whatever reason; for example I could complain that the English dub is unfortunately pretty bad. I could also mention how most of the time the graphics are pretty basic and character animations are almost non-existent during the visual novel portions; this would be expected in a regular 2D visual novel with sprites but having 3D character models in VR stand mostly still and phase between poses does hurt the immersion a little. It seems all the animation budget went into the mecha fights and the pop song concerts (because of course the game features a virtual diva character).

Dispite all that, though, the story and characters were enough for me to be intrigued throughout and I'd still recommend it. As a non VR version is being released soon, I'd say it's worth checking out if the premise interests you.

I may have complained about how Altdeus doesn't use VR to it's full potential, but it turns out they've made a newer game Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate. This has been out on Quest and PSVR2 for a while but is soon releasing in VR and Non VR on Steam and Switch and after playing the demo this one seems a lot more promising, with higher production values and presumably a higher budget (theme song by Suisei of Hololive zomg). More importantly it features actual gameplay and feels like some kind of anime Minority Report, so I'm definitely interested in checking that one out eventually.

Album of the Week #6

Blonde comme moi

TL;DR: A French version of the Strokes in the best way, with songs that make you remember the titles. A must if you like any alt rock.

This week was my AP French test and in an effort to tell myself that I was studying I decided to choose a French album this week. I only know about this because of the single that came from this album, “Dis-moi” which I think I found on a playlist of French indie songs (which I was originally looking up because my French class only plays pop music and it makes me want to cry). It was that perfect mid 2000s rock that I adore so I ended up listening to a ton of other songs from the artist. While I've heard this album before, this was my first time actually paying attention while listening to it. And in the case of “Dis-moi” I almost wish I didn't speak French.

General Thoughts

It's funny that I'm reviewing this after doing a whole unit on globalization because this really is a great example of that. While 95% of the lyrics in this album are in French the inspiration clearly isn't. Listening to this it fit right along with any Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, or Jet from this time period. You could make the argument that all of the songs sound the same and the unoriginality hurts it, but I honestly don't care because what is being repeated sounds really dang good. The Strokes also is on a really fine line of all of the songs blurring together, while this album doesn't fall into that trap quite as much.

This album also falls into that category that would sound probably exactly as good live. This gives the album an immersive quality and boy does it make me miss live music. It brings to mind going to a bar/restaurant to see a live band just goof off and play some covers. Maybe these hit me harder than most because I play guitar and have always dreamed of being in a band, but this is 100% the kind of music I would perform. Down to the fun French accents.

This whole album gets a general thumbs up from me vibe wise, and really just sounds like your standard mid-2000s rock album in the best way possible. A few highlights include "Le gang” which was their debut song (also the fact that they were started that strong at less than 20 years old makes the whole thing even better) and a full groove and a half. I'm a sucker for a nice baseline and this one has me hooked. “Perdu cette nuit” and “Pas comme ça” have similar vibes of the dip in the middle of the concert when you're running off of adrenaline more than actual energy. “Houna” (and “BB baise” a bit) really reminds me of a Disney Channel original movie from 2007. I can picture the main character running across his neighbors' yards trying to get home before his parents wake up every time I listen to this song.

While most of these songs are good, the two bangers are definitely “Dis-moi” and “Wolfman”. The first one is the big hit from this album, one that actually charted in France. It is definitely the catchiest from the album and I have been singing it every day this week. If you listen to one song out of this album I'd recommend this one-- it gives a good preview of what the rest of it is and has a fun music video to go with it.

And now it is the time in the review where I write a love letter to my favorite song. Oh “Wolfman”, where do I start. This song is completely acoustic, and you can hear the rawness in the strumming and switching of chords. It sounds like something you would hear someone sing for just you and a small group of people, an intimate experience. The song is also entirely in English, making it stick out even more from the rest. The accent mixed with the grittiness of the guitar is a beautiful result, one that makes a diamond hidden on the second CD of the deluxe edition.

Final Verdict

Listen, I would love nothing more than to own a physical copy of this album, but it's only available in France and I would have to pay some insane international shipping for it. While I love this album to bits, I don't think it's worth the $30 it would end up costing. I think I'm just going to buy it on iTunes and if I happen to find it while staying in French, I'll just cry tears of joy.

While I can’t recommend someone paying over $10 for shipping on a CD, I can recommend streaming or buying this album digitally. If you like any 2000s rock, especially The Strokes or the movie Scott Pilgrim vs the World, then this is for you.

Tips to learn the Korean Alphabet (Hangul)

Hello everyone! 🐰👋 I got a few requests from people asking for advice on how to study and learn Hangul (한글). This is based on my experience and what helped me, so I hope this can somehow help you guys 😊❤️

What I do first is write organise all the consonants and vowels in two separate sections such as this. So if I find myself a bit lost or confused, I refer back to this chart.

Now writing it important and romanisation is possible. But I do not recommend it as the writing cannot transfer well into how the sound should be.

The way I learnt how to pronounce these syllables correctly and help me memorise the alphabet, I watched a YouTube video. I recommend visiting her channel if you haven't yet!

Miss Mina Oh has a YouTube channel known as "sweetandtastytv". As of now, she currently posts many videos of her travels and food reviews, but I recommend to also check out her older videos.

I learnt Hangul through her video lessons :)

In her descriptions, she also shares practice worksheets of her lessons to help you apply your learning. I recommend to download and print these worksheets, if possible or write them down in your notebooks.

Also, do not have any music or any other video playing while watching this.

I often slowed down my progress in learning because I had so many distractions or I'd pause the video often to write down notes. This would lead me to lose concentration and not fully immerse myself into the lesson.

I honestly would recommend to do the following.

1) Drilling technique 🗣️

Watch the video once.

Pay attention and repeat out loud when she writes or says the syllable.

Do not take any notes yet.

Just listen and repeat.

2) Practice listening👂

Play the video a second time but with lower volume so it doesn't distract you when you are writing down notes.

Think of it as background noise, unconsciously you could possibly already pick up some syllables as she speaks or when you're writing them down in your books. This could stimulate your memory as you will probably already recognise sounds from listening it the first time.

Honestly I still struggle with pronunciation but practice makes perfect. Keep going and you will master it ❤️👍

3) Production 📝

Copy/download/print a worksheet.

You can remember the consonants easier by repeating them with a single Vowel. I recommend the Vowel "ㅏ", as its the easiest to learn with.

You can do this to learn consonants, double consonants and vowels :)

4) Have fun! 🎶

If you want to get more creative, you can try to sing the Hangul characters!

A very quick way I learnt at least half of the basic Hangul consonants with Vowel "ㅏ" is through J-Hope's rap in "Boy in Luv". If you're a BTS fan, this could make it a bit more fun for you to learn.

Another fun way is to sing Hangul with the melody of the alphabet~🎶🎤

5) Test yourself 📑

I know this is pretty common knowledge but it really does help!

I suggest to do worksheets often. Maybe learn half of the consonants first. Then when you are comfortable, learn the other. Practice the vowels, combine them once you're happy.

What I did was write down all the syllables on a whiteboard, hung it up on the wall and checked it every now and then. This made it easier and quicker for me to learn it as I had the information near me instead of using a lot of my time searching online.

Every few hours I would test myself reading the syllables out loud. Its okay if it's hard to recognise it at first, take your time~

6) Read, Write, Check 📝👀

I think this method is a common activity to people. My teachers did this to learn new vocabulary in English when I was really young. I tried applying it to learning Korean, and have positive results! 😊

First, read the syllable you are learning. Try a syllable with one consonant and a Vowel.

Pick one or a few from the diagram. Then place a sheet of paper over the character and make sure its not visible to you.

Write down the syllable from how you remember it.

Finally, check your answer by comparing it to the diagram. Do this often and it will really help you memorise~

If you remember any other activities you were taught when younger, try to see if you can apply them to learning Hangul or Korean! 🤗

7) Further Study 📚

Once you're comfortable and want to improve your speed in reading either the characters or words, I recommend these methods...

You don't necessarily have to understand what you are reading at the first time, so don't feel pressured. This is more to help you recognise hangul~

Maybe you enjoy kdramas! 🎬 Why not download and print the script of your favourite kdrama? Although this is more towards intermediate and advanced learners, I think it's useful for beginners so they can enjoy reading ❤️

Or maybe you like listening to Korean music! 🎵🎧❤️

Here's a website that has most Korean songs in Hangul format. This will help you recognise the sounds your favorite idol sings the next time you listen to their songs~ 👂

Follow some accounts on social media~📱

Most social media apps have a character limit, so the messages are usually small and simple to read 📖

8) Apps!

Here are a list of apps I recommend. Some are more practical for learning Hangul while others will help you learn Korean in a fun way!

9) Take breaks

Please remember to stay hydrated, eat and don't worry about the time it's taking you to learn it. Just focus on the material and please don't compare your progress with others as this would cause you to lose confidence and motivation. 💪

Love and take care of yourself. Let your mind rest to process everything you've studied and continue when you can~🤗❤️

I recommend the pomodoro technique! You can search this technique and maybe you will feel more comfortable applying it to your study plan. 😊

feels like a lifetime — drabble

The fire crackled in the fireplace, the orange flames, which were the only light in the living room, casting a soft glow over the furniture. 

It was quite hot in Rome this time of year, but they’d still made the choice to ignite a fire inside. One of the reasons for it was that neither Lou nor himself liked feeling cold. It was constant warmth in their life together, tight embraces, heated kisses, lying together next to lit fireplaces. Always warmth and never distance unless it couldn’t be prevented. 

Their force was far too magnetic to ever stay apart for too long. They’d tried and luckily failed. Their entire lifes would be miserably different if they hadn’t realized the truth. They would’ve never gone to Rome for the first time and found out about Pax, they would’ve never gotten married, had two beautiful twin girls, the house would’ve never been purchased, and they wouldn’t have had the joy of adopting Milo and building the tree house in the back yard. Xenophilius would’ve died at age thirty one from a curse that caused his lungs to collapse if he didn’t have Eloise to safe his life. He would’ve never held Ximena after waking up and felt overwhelming gratefulness to be alive. Three more boys and a little kitten would’ve never found a home with them and Perseus would’ve never joined the family as the last baby boy. Xeno wouldn’t trade the past century for anything in the world. The laughing, the kisses, the crying of an abundance of children, the arguments, the getting up at two in the morning to sit the bed of a weeping child frightened of the shadows in the corners of the room, the pain of worrying and the bliss of relief. For every hard moment there were countless other unforgettably perfect ones to make up for it. 

And Xenophilius knew he was the luckiest man in the world to have lead a life like this, at the side of the love of his life. Something like this was rare and at times it still felt unreal. He thought back to the fateful day at the pond in Eloise’s hometown, to his own disbelief that it was actually happening. That he was lucky enough to get everything he’d ever wanted. To love and be loved. By her. 

That’d been a whole one hundred and eleven years ago and his feelings for his wife and family had only gotten stronger over the decades. It was what kept his head over water most of the time. 

But while his feelings had been strengthened, he himself had gotten weaker. It was a slow progression at first, something that could be chalked up to getting older, but the past week he’d felt it more than usual. A strange fatigue that kept his energy at a low level at all times despite getting enough sleep, troubles in spell casting, a heavy head, and gradual trouble breathing. The latter worried him most. It brought back terrifying memories that Xeno would much rather forget than have to deal with ever again. The curse had been broken, but the feeling of choking on naught but air remained with him, making it hard to let go of the past, making him paranoid. 

Eloise and Xeno were lying on the sofa right in front of the fireplace, wrapped up in each other’s and the fire’s warmth. She’d fallen asleep while reading, the book now lose in her grasp and resting on his chest. Their day had been spent inside, instead of at the café Lou’d been wanting to show him for ages now, under the false pretence that all of their days had been busy enough and that they should’ve have at least one day of only lying around and enjoying each other’s presence. In truth, Xeno hadn’t trusted himself to go out that day without worrying her senseless. That day had been the worst so far. But he’d made the promise to let her show him the café the next day, a promise Lou had been heartwarmingly excited about. And he was excited to see it himself. After all, it’d been a long time coming. 

Xeno’s knuckles brushed gently over her hair, the skin of her neck, her shoulders, wandered back up to her checks while his eyes glanced down to see strands of her hair fluttering up rhythmically due to the puffs of her breath. His heart constricted purely out of love. Overwhelming love that he most of the time had no idea where to put except to lay it at her feet together with the world. 

The springs of the sofa were starting to dig into his back and a yawn was building at the back of his throat. Right after, a soft sigh left his mouth. Tomorrow would be a different day, a better day. He’d feel better and banish those gnawing worries to the back of his mind. But for now, sleep was the best plan. 

Careful not to wake her, Xenophilius took the book out of her grasp and placed it on the little table next to the sofa, moved away under Eloise and gently picked her up in his arms, one under the backs of her knees and the other cradling her back. He forcefully pushed the realisation, that picking her up wasn’t as easy for him as it used to be anymore, to the back of his mind. Just one more proof of his weakening condition. 

He carried her to the bedroom, carefully maneuvering them through the hallways and rooms before finally setting her down on the bed and lying back down next to her. He rested on his back when Eloise curled up to him in her sleep, a wonderful little gesture that had developed over an eternity of sleeping next to one another. He somehow managed to pull the blanket over the both of them while his other arm snaked around her to pull her even closer. 

An involuntary breath of relief escaped him at the sudden feeling of peace, eyes slipping shut. It was a constant with her. This here, falling asleep next to Lou, was one of his favorite things. If this was the last thing he’d experience on this earth, he was in paradise already. Giving into the exhaustion and slipping away into a deep sleep was the easiest thing in the world now.

Paradise was close enough to touch.

Hi Sim! You seem to be so full of life all the time!! I was wondering if you had any tips on how to get more energy and feel more vibrant and motivated to do things? I am just so so tired all the time and feel like everything is a struggle and so exhausting. It makes me so unproductive and really just sick of everything. I'd love to be able to change that somehow! X

thank you m’love, but it really worries me that you feel this way. If you are physically feeling a serious lack of energy I would really recommend just getting a check up with your local physician & get a blood test just to make sure you’re not low in iron or anything.

Otherwise, here are my personal tips for keeping positive, vibrant & motivated:

do things you love - if you’re doing what you love, motivation isn’t a concern. This doesn’t mean just career wise because that may not be realistic (e.g. if you’re still at school), but you have the power to do things like listen to music you love or do art you love or wear clothes you love or see people you love (etc) during your day regardless of whether you work or not 

surround yourself by people you love & people who bring out the best in you & encourage you to be the best version of yourself - being around people who have a mindset and/or live the way you wish to is inspiring, infectious & motivating

make sure you’re eating well & enough - abundance in whole foods will physically provide you with all the energy you need, but I strongly believe that eating this way also provides the mind & soul with an incredible energy. Also make sure you’re drinking enough water

immerse yourself in nature as much as possible - the energy nature provides is just insane, enough said. for me, being in the ocean is also a big part of this

outline your goals, dreams & inspirations - this makes it easier to know what direction to head, what to aspire to & what to be motivated by

have a change of scene - if you feel really stuck in a rut then sometimes have a big change can help be the catalyst to get your life back on track & get your shit together. However, it is important to realise that you shouldn’t always rely on external change to be a resolution

remind yourself of these things constantly - you can achieve anything you set your mind to, where you are now doesn’t have to be where you’ll be forever, you only have one life, you will only be the age you are once, every experience has pros & cons, some of the best things in life haven’t happened yet, everything will be okay, there’s no such thing as a bad day, 

start your day off with something that makes you happy - for example I love to listen to uplifting upbeat songs when I wake up & it gets me in the best mood for the day. Other things like cooking, eating your favourite breakfast, exercising, seeing friends, ringing a family member etc can all do the same thing :) 

get plenty of sleep!! - without sleep your mental health will just go downhill without a doubt

remove external negativity from your life - whether this be people, social media, environments, there is always something we can do to rid or at least minimise external negativity in our lives. For example, a couple of years ago I went all through my social media accounts & just removed anyone who I felt brought negative & judgemental energy into my life; it made such a big difference & was very liberating 

love yourself
