Food shaming has been on my mind throughout the day. I think it's unbelievable the lengths people will go to, to justify their comments on your food. Please don't give unsolicited advice, especially about food. Let people eat what they want. It's just as stupid as someone commenting on people's dressing or bodily choices. It's sad. Doesn't matter what reason (read: excuse) you have. Don't do it.

dude today my friend was teasing me about my caffeine intake at lunch, and I eat lunch with a couple friends and a couple mutuals. and someone asked me what caffeine I've had and I told them a coffee and a water bottle full of diet coke. and this kid from across the table goes "how am I the fat one" and I didn't actually hear what they said, so my entire table is laughing their ass off and everyone is refusing to tell me what they said. and my friend whispers it to someone else. so at this point everyone is laughing at something that was said about me and no one will tell me what was said. and then finally one of my friends tell me, and I like start talking about how it was diet coke and all that was in the coffee was Splenda. and I actually feel really bad about that, cause like I don't typically brag about how little I've eaten, but like I felt attacked. and honestly, it was kinda bullshit anyways, cause the underlying message is that the amount you ate should make you fat. I have not fucking eaten today. I got fucking foodshamed, without eating. and like I get that it was meant to be self depreciating, but the thing is that like I'm the person who the joke is being made about. and no one even said anything. and like I haven't eaten lunch once this school year, and it's the third week. WHY THE FUCK AM I BEING TEASED FOR EATING SO MUCH.

Many times when we have frequent cravings or overeat, we do not have a willpower issue but instead we have a metabolic issue where the body is yearning for nutrients. been getting pissy about unchecked/internalized fatphobia in my broader/newer social circles after having the spaces i willfully occupy for my whole adult life tend towards pretty conscious about unlearning fatphobia/foodshaming. it's also a learning experience about how to be the first person to speak up about this issue in a friend space (different than work or school or a group of people you already hate) and a reminder of the downfalls of surrounding yourself with people you already agree with.

I’m not toned and trim, I don’t have a smooth hairless body, I‘m not in love with my skin color, but I wore a bikini in Puerto Rico last week on the beach and celebrated life. So my girlfriend picked me up this morning and said I’m taking out to lunch for your birthday… As we walked in there was lots of yummy things to be had. The waitress handed us the menu… And my girlfriend said you have no choice you’re getting the savoury French toast 😂 It’s the best thing on the menu 🤣 Once upon a time I would have... 😬Debated about the calories 😬Thought about what I would have to do to burn it off 😬After I eating it proceed to shame myself for eating something that wasn’t going to get me to my body and health goals But because I have shifted my relationship with food, my mindset and educated myself. I now know that if I’m out, one meal is t going to break me... in fact it challenges your body. Enjoy it and then hope back onto my normal MO (way of being). When you change your lifestyle, things need to be sustainable and you still need to be able to go out and still enjoy life. I am the world biggest FOODIE after all. Life is not about depriving yourself, life is about working in a balance and really listening to your body. Day 9 and small rant Breakfast - egg and spinach scramble, & potato Lunch - yet more hamburger and green beans, apple coleslaw Dinner - Thai coconut soup, Thai cashew stir fry with cashew, & my own rage / anti authoritarian streak. Apparently I should be ashamed of eating out and not having the energy/ moral fiber to meticulously plan and control the universe according to the whole 30 forums. Fish sauce which is mostly ground anchovies is a cardinal sin as it comes from an Asian restaurant and may have looked at MSG or Soy. The worst part of this experience has been reading the tone of moral superiority on the blogs & forums. I'm sorry I thought this was for people trying to determine food allergies or intolerances not for you to mask your eating disorder. I'm 100% ok with fucking up a little, and you can go to hell with your food shame. You know what tastes as good as skinny feels? A whole sleeve of Oreos. Also if you think I feel shame you have never met my family.

So uh, I just saw that people were talking to you about applesauce. I work in a supermarket and we actually sell "apple puree" so that people can get their Apples But For Babies without having to buy something that literally says babyfood on it. (we also sell applesauce but i think that has some other stuff added to it?)

Our relationship with food is unique and personal. Throughout the years I have learned that food is neither “good” or “bad.” As soon as we label a food “bad” it can bring up guilt, fear and shame. How can we reframe this relationship? Food is food- it's neutral. How can we relax our relationship with food versus going into judgment? Consider letting go of guilt and shame about the food we eat.
