With a quiet groan, almost under his breath, he brought a hand down to his side, hovering it over where he knew a bruise that was more black than blue was settling beneath his skin. not to be obsessive on main but i saw a recent perennialknight post tagged susannah, is this a new character in the flowerverse?

susannah is a character i'm fleshing out right now, who serves as astera's high priestess after the god takes off just a little bit. caleb is astera's first sworn paladin, but susannah is their first real religious devotee.

at first, caleb doesn't get along with susannah well at all; both of them have such enormously disparate and discordant views of astera, and it makes them clash hard. but the honest truth is that while caleb is devoted, a common and not particularly charismatic knight who was gearing up to go pledge his sword to the king wasn't a very strategic choice for a nature god to pick. obviously he means more than that to them, but objectively speaking, he was a bad choice.

so astera needs someone like susannah. they're a magic, cool-headed, diplomatic true believer who can spin the story well as it unfolds. so caleb has to accept them. astera chose them too.

susannah is also nonbinary & genderfluid, something that drew them to astera in the first place. their body shifts and changes with the flow of their magic and mood, something that caleb can grudgingly admit he admires after he figures out how to stop resenting them.

basically, susannah is PR and caleb is on the front lines. and together they drag astera's story into the public consciousness (and therefore keep astera alive).

OC Lore: Raine and Marsha

About these two OCs of mine whom I've made reference sheets for recently.

Having been together ever since they were just children, Raine and Marsha are practically sisters. They are not biologically related; Marsha was taken in by Raine's family when she was only a child.

As an ommate (people, but they only have a singular eye) among humans, Marsha was easily distinguished among her peers. It also didn't help that she became exceptionally tall as she grew older. Both of these factors combined led to Marsha slowly being ostracized from her peers.

When Raine was still a teenager, her right arm got infected with a rare, incurable plague which caused her to have the arm amputated. Raine's father, as a tinkerer, helped Raine by building her a prosthetic replacement which took a few years to be perfected. Raine and her father also helped build Marsha a room for her to accommodate her exceptional stature.

Nowadays, Raine works as a weaver, helping create clothes for Marsha as well as making a small business out of that skill in the cold oases of (INSERT FLOWERVERSE NAME HERE). Marsha also acts as a bodyguard for Raine's family's restaurant, which has given her a newfound respect from the community.

Raine does help out in the family business sometimes, but she has been spending more and more time with her weaving as of late.

Other Facts:

Raine is left-handed

Raine runs her weaving gig out of the same building her family's business is located, which also happens to be where they all live.

Marsha has decided to learn how to cook, though this comes with some difficulties due to her exceptional stature.

Raine's mother is the main chef in the family business, with some of her extended family also helping out.

In my Flowerverse (that's what I'm calling my Buttercup in Winter timeline now), one of the Trevelyan twins has magic and the other doesn't. I like to believe the same thing happens with Cullen and Ava's twin girls. The one named after Yev and Dorian gets magic, and INSISTS she be taught by Uncle D. Cullen is absolutely against this because of the turmoil in Tevinter. But eventually Dorian wears them down, because of course he wants to see his nieces. So, the girls are shipped off to Minrathous. If so much as a hair on either girl's head is harmed, Cullen has vowed to storm the city himself to kill Dorian.

How do cross-planar probes work in flowerverse? And can we get any extra lore on the interplanar colonization period? Thank you for a great story!

The Interplanar Colonization Period will be gone into a little later on in the story! As for the cross-planar probes, I assume you're talking about the ones referenced as being used by the Ironworkers. I think there's a brief allusion to them in one of the most recent chapters, but the idea is supposed to be that pre-collapse civilization was capable of faster-than-light communication, and they work on the same principles to communicate with the Tower of Asphodel, having been left behind in the old world.

Su is still refusing to spell out the reason existing in Kuroka's body - as opposed to 'just' Kuroka's social and economic situation - was so unbearable (either trans, disabled or some kind of Flowerverse equivalent; some of the throwaway lines in the last dozen chapters make me think trans is most likely) . . . and she's just kind of ignoring the way she started self-administered self-annihilating assimilation therapy literally as soon as she started wearing Shiko's body, way before recruiting Ran (after specifically calling out the number of days she's been using her books as the main hint that she was hiding stuff from the reader before) . . . and she's also acting like it was unforgivable and futile for her to go through assimilation therapy at the usual rate when she was a year behind but like girl literally what were your options, you didn't have any excuses to feed your therapist . . .

I really like how, after a hundred chapters of trying to hide exactly how horrible she is, she's flipped to trying to hide all the mitigating and extenuating factors. "I'll make them hate me, but hold back some excuses so I can be certain at least some of the hate is unfair" (or some similar reasoning), she just cannot let anyone see her entire self for any reason, honestly peak character writing right here.
