Nobody asked for it but here are some trivia bits about Hana no ko Lunlun:
Character designs were done by Michi Himeno, best known for her collaborations with late animator Shingo Araki. She was also the animation director for the first episode.
Toei Animation’s first magical series since Majokko Megu-chan finished in 1975.
The first magical girl anime to have an original theatrical film. Previous magical girl “films” were just theatrical showings of select episodes.
The very first magical girl series to have an English dub. Unfortunately, only four dubbed episodes have been confirmed. However, all 50 episodes were rescored and edited. Most of the international dubs are based on this version.
Although merchandise tie-ins existed for Toei’s previous magical girl series, Lunlun had a notably bigger push from the get go.
The series implemented a “chief animator system” which resulted in all but the first episode having a very consistent animation style.
The second film was originally going to include a cameo of Lalabell (from Magical Girl Lalabell).
While an accurate translation of the title would be “Flower Girl Lunlun,” the official English title is “Lulu, The Flower Angel.” Lunlun ultimately became “Angel” instead of Lulu for the English dub. This is probably because the American distributor, ZIV International, was also releasing Little Lulu and didn’t want to create confusion.
The origin of Lunlun’s name is “runrunkibun” which can mean “happy” and “cheerful.” The name of her enemy, Togenishia, is a play on “toge,” meaning “thorn.”
The titular character of Candy Candy makes a cameo in the second episode. Merchandise of Candy and Lunlun appear throughout Magical Girl Lalabell.

Note
What are two different magical girl series that you think would go well together, and what are two that you think would end in fire, mass property damage, and jaywalking?
For the first: A crossover between Flower Child LunLun & Floral Magician Mary Bell would be so sugary sweet and adorable they’d have to shut it down for causing toothaches
For the Second: The cast of Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka meets Puni Puni Poemy would end in bloodshed and since Poemy’s a gag character she would come out on top. I don’t want to watch it but that’s the most violent answer imo
Neither of these crossovers are we ready for

AvA Sticktober 2022 - Day 21: Outfit
Different outfits for the Stick Gang.
The Second Coming and Green:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Second Coming is dressed up in an adventurer's outfit with his Minecraft diamond sword. Well... I intended it to be a horse rider's outfit, but with the colors I gave for each article of clothing... yeah, doesn't look like that anymore...
And I gave him a cape because why not?
Green is dressed up in a race car driver's jumpsuit, because I remembered the anon question from a few months about which stick figures know how to drive in my personal opinion, and I imagined him being a race car driver with the speed I think he would be going at.
(I actually have another inspiration for the outfits that applies to both him and Second, but if I explain it, it wouldn't make any sense, so yeah.)
Yellow:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teacher Yellow is back with another lesson on redstone, so you better pay attention.
Blue and Red:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's Blue's turn to cosplay as a magical girl. The outfit is from one of Toei Animation's 70s Magical Girl Series, Hana no Ko Lunlun, or Lunlun, the Flower Girl. The theme for this anime is flowers, and learning the meanings and lessons associated with them. One of Blue's favorite hobbies is gardening, so I thought this would fit him.
Speaking of magic, Red's here to perform some magic for you! Actual magic, not redstone magic, I promise.
I was listening to a song performed in another one of Studio Pierrot's 80s Magical Girl Series - Mahou no Star Magical Emi, or Magical Emi, the Magic Star (yeah, I love Magical Girl Series) - and seeing how the theme focuses on magicians and magic tricks, I remembered the time where Red was performing some "magic" for Green and Blue, assisted by Yellow, who created his magic by using command blocks (Animation vs. Minecraft - Episode 6: Command Blocks).
One final note: I was only going to do Second and Red initially, but one idea led to another, and this was the result.
Why did I make it look like Yellow was annoyingly staring at Second and Green?

Why oh why can no one leave alone all these magical girl series that are already ended? 🤬 Meanwhile, the number of all-new maho shojo productions is close to 0... I hate this world.

For anyone wondering where the “the bees the bees are here” meme came from.
Original video that the meme came from:
youtube
Surprisingly it took a lot of digging to find it. It’s called “Flower Angel” or “Hana no Ko Lunlun”, and it’s about this girl trying to find a rainbow flower for the king and the people she helps along the way.
The bees are in episode 3, which you can find here: https://archive.org/details/the-flower-angel-ziv-english-dub-ep.-3
The whole episode is great, but if you don’t want to watch the whole thing, here’s some time stamps:
2:57 “I’m going to release the bees.”
3:28 “the bees are here!”
3:46 “master Reynolds the bees are in the garden.”
6:00 “what’s are you gonna do now?” “I’m going to go back to work”
And I’d highly suggest going to
14:27 the voice acting here is incredible.
Anyways, I’ve been wanting to tell someone this for a while.

This is the actual disc for the Toei magical girl game, Great Magical Girl Strategy: Little Witching Mischief (魔女っ子大作戦 Little Witching Mischief). The underside is black, which I guess is how all (or maybe most?) PlayStation games were.

Hey there? On the search for genuinely good classic/modern magical girl/boy series without any problematic subject matter (age-gap romances, incest, heavy sexualization of minors/fanservice, petty in-fighting (I'm looking at you, Wedding Peach)), heavily tears down the reputation/ideals of the genre or going into grimdark territory/kills off the main character/multiple characters for pointless shock value (I'm looking at you, Minky Momo)? Then you've come to the right post!
