Magical women who transform via their favorite cocktails with the most prominent ingredient in the drink manifesting as their signature weapon (i.e. Rose petals translating to a thorn whip, whisky gives form to a fancy ornate flamethrower). Their mascot is the ladies’ local pretty bartender who discovered a way to infuse magic into alcoholic beverages and comes to the women with a preposition to fight crime in their city with their consent.

I'd like to talk about the small details in The Nanny duology:
Both games
PMosters for the insight Zombies TV series showing up in character bedrooms and the collectible card series based on the show
'Support your Indie devs' messages popping up on in-universe TVs
Crows/ravens being a sign of the Nanny/Mother’s peescence
The Nanny
Attempting to enter Tina's room during the Darnell house sections has Oliver say that he'd rather stay alive than go in
The various clocks the player can examine
The various objects that can be examined in the Darnell family’s backyard
The random squirrel eating a human finger in the forest
All the interactable items in Mr. Darnell’s office
Oliver can check the telephone plus the carton in the Jordan's living room
From The Woods
The interactable stuff in Al's office
Elijah refering to the trash can outside of Al's office as 'R2-D2'
Being able to greet Ms. Murphy the goose before going into Dr. Greene's office and before checking the mail
Oliver pushing his mom away when she moves to hug him so as to not alert anyone to Tina's prescense
Examining the vending machine while giving Oliver a tour of the Center causes a cute little sound effect to play
The interactables in the lobby before taking Ms. Murphy out for her walk
Ms. Murphy having a proper harness
Eric having written 'E(lijah) <3 E(ric)' on a bench in the garden but then scratching it out when Elijah spots him from a window
All the small inspectable items in the garden
Oliver and Elijah apparently having the same favorite chocolate
An unskippable extended goose care scene
The greeting Elijah and Grace have when talking through the drainpipe
The hilarious 'Yum x4' voice clip that plays after selecting a dinner option during both dining hall segments
Checking out the poster on the wall at the rec set up at the end of the dining hall has Elijah express that he should rewatch The Goonies sometime
Elijah can use the toilet during the first bathroom section
The taunting messages left by Aiden towards Elijah on the bathroom wall
Being able to snoop in other patients'' mail boxes
The altar for Ms. Murphy
Elijah having a cute cat lamp in his bedroom (and it actually purrs when examined)
The other patients initially not automatically leaving when Dr. Greene tells them to due to shock at Joe's death
Attempting to leave during Oliver's flashback section will have Elijah state that he can't do so before turning back in Oliver's direction
Mother having only one eye (and it's the right one) which further indicates she is Ms. Marquez in spirit form
The items you can find in Dr. Greene's desk drawer besides the key and Elijah's commentary on them and the funny sound effects that come with them
The oak tree in the garden actually wilting as an indicator that Mother is dead for real
Eric's silhouette can be spotted during the scene between Oliver and Elijah in the garden
Oliver's hand shifting closer to Elijah's chest when Tina shows up in the former's room
Inspecting the mirror from the first bathroom sequence will have Elijah state that he's never looking into it again
Tina returning Aiden's threat to gouge out Elijah's eyes when she attacks him and Theo
The implication that Oliver chose to stay at the Center after the attacks on Aiden and Theo not just to finish his treatment but to help Elijah mentally recover from the bullies cornering him in the bathroom

As a Midnight Scenes fan who's subbed to Manlybadasshero and as much as I enjoy his videos, I heavily disagree with his review/opinions on From The Woods because wdym Oliver's arc was regulated to his memories of the recent past and a certain character wasn’t as deep as they looked?
His arc actually was built up from when he arrived at the Center. Oliver began as being quiet and lonely (aside from having to hide his sister in her shadow demon form from everyone else) then noticing Elijah's genuine kindness/concern that didn’t come from a trained professional adult towards him in spite of the insults and avoidance from the other patients to wanting to be around him during the second dinner segment and giving him Little Tina after Elijah is gut punched by Aiden. The development eventually cumilates into chosing to trust Elijah with his story and falling for him due to his willingness to properly understand him when no one else did. It concludes with Oliver graduating (literally and figuratively) to giving his statement regarding Tina to the police and eventually starting a new life with Elijah. There’s actual nuance to Oliver’s side of the story when you look at it on a deeper scale.
As for Eric, a credited YouTube comment will be sufficient. As Cshehan put it in their analysis of Eric's character:
I feel like Eric served as a flaw in Elijah's character. It seems like their friendship was starting to fall apart before the events that take place in the game. At the beginning, before Eric is even introduced, Elijah sees Eric outside scratching out an "E hearts E" carving that had previously been on the bench. Elijah sees the carving and thinks nothing of it (even though they are the only two boys with names that start with E). Eric has had feelings for Elijah for a while at this point and he now feels like Elijah only hangs out with him as a last resort. We can tell this is true based on their conversation in the cafeteria. Elijah is so caught up in being bullied for being gay, that he doesn't even consider the possibility that Eric is too. After consoling Elijah about Ms. Murphy's demise, Eric vaguely comes out to him. Elijah is silent and Eric takes that as rejection. Eric, feeling rejected, sees Oliver and Elijah together the next night and lashes out by telling Aiden. Elijah's negligence of their friendship by no means warrants the abuse that Eric indirectly inflicts upon him, but all this considered, you can see how it gets to that point.

You know, calamity trio and titan luz's anime powers were cool and badass, but i think grunkle stan outsmarting omnipotent evil doritos who destroyed multiple dimensions is a peak of badassery
Humans shouldn't be underestimated, that's for sure.

you dont think magic exists. you make people laugh. you listen patiently even if a person is mindlessly yapping. you make people feel special on their birthdays. you check up on your loved ones because you genuinely care. you greet people into your home like they are making that place better. you stay up late trying to solve that problem for your friend. you voice your opinions instead of yelling at your parents and you pray less for yourself and more for the people around you. maybe, you are magic.

Magical girl shit is when you care for others and yourself <3
Drink some water, maybe get a little treat for yourself, do something you love no matter how small it may seem, go and exist in the sun for a bit.
You are loved, you Matter.

Saw some discourse on the Other Website about whether or not magical girls who use technology "count" as magical girls (or something like that) and it reminded me of a few months ago when someone asked me over there what I meant when I said that Tokyo Mew Mew was "less magical" than other magical girl works I've interacted with.
To be clear, Mew Mew to me is definitely a magical girl story. I wasn't really saying that it was "less magical" so much as commenting on how the girls in-universe got their powers. (I did reply to that person, but you can only do so much in 280 words.)
There are (from my understanding based on what I know) multiple ways for a magical girl to get her powers. Sometimes it's a fairy, sometimes it's an ancient relic. Mew Mew has the girls get their powers from having animal DNA spliced into them. Moreover, they are referred to at one point as "biological weapons." Their enemies are also aliens who use parasites to mutate animals into monsters. That's all very soft science fiction in premise. (The English translation of the original pilot calls the magical girl's outfit a "battle suit.")
But the powers still manifest as magical girl outfits and weapons. If you showed someone a photo of the team, they would probably not immediately think "those characters get their powers from animal DNA spliced into them." In the end, it's a very Clarke's Third Law kind of science. You know, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Or perhaps here it's "Science that isn't explained in detail seems like magic."
So yeah, the series is still magical. But it does share a lot of tropes you'd see in science fiction, too. And I think that's pretty cool.

Got stuck today in a spiral of “Am I really a good person if I get tired of trying to do good? Can I be a good person if being selfless and good doesn’t fill me with joy and energy and make me into a perpetual goodness machine”
And then I remembered. That’s how the Incubators got Sayaka. And I think she’s a damn sympathetic character. Never stopping to care for yourself is how they get you, it’s how they turn your love and goodness and hope into despair and destruction. We are not infinite goodness machines, we need to rest and recover or we risk destruction of ourselves and others.
So like, shout-out to PMMM for halting my anxiety spiral this morning.
