Puppy Pack Classification Headcanons
characters featured : liam, hayden, mason, corey, theo [moodboards for characters included]
[slight tw for theo’s — mentions him having a bad past]
find hale pack here & mccall pack here
Tumblr media
Liam Dunbar : little — he is just the babiest of babies I swear!! he’s on the clinger side of things when he’s small as it can be very scary for him, between how bad his nightmares are normally and then when he regresses they only become worse. He likes to have Hayden watch him or Mason, they’re both his safe people and neither have any problem staying up late when he doesn’t want to sleep. Mason tends to have them play games, not the normal video games as those can get a bit graphic but he brings cards games and boards game over. Hayden prefers to have them lay in bed and talk about things to hopefully lull Liam to sleep. On the flip side, if it’s daytime and Liam’s regressed he stays pretty happy, it’s also a great way to control any anger he may feel. Him and Theo get along well and Liam’s happy to drag Theo around wherever they may, he’s very content being the leader with games and such. Occasionally he’ll ask Scott to watch over him if he’s feeling extra “werewolf-y” as he puts it, but in general he’s not picky about who watches over him, he has favorites yes but as long as he feels safe he’s okay with anyone ♡
Tumblr media
Hayden Romero : flip — she has a little lean but it only ever comes out around specific people, mostly Liam, Masson and Corey but sometimes Scott & Theo. She’s got a killer sweet tooth, little or not, she loves to snack on candy or go out for ice cream with any excuse in the book. When she is little she carries around a stuff bear from her childhood that her sister got her, she technically has two of them [see middle picture of the moodboard] but favors the one with the hearts because it was the first one her sister had got her. Her sister doesn’t know about Hayden’s regression as she gets very shy and embarrassed about needing to regress, but she’s more relaxed about her caregiver side and will sometimes bring the little she’s watching over to the station for a quick visit. She’s a pack caregiver of sorts, someone to babysit anyone in the pack if they need it, but mainly she watches over Liam which may turn into play-dates depending on her mood, and she’s watched over Stiles more than once because they both end up stuck at the police station waiting on their respected person ♡
Tumblr media
Mason Hewitt : caregiver — the caregiver of the entire puppy pack, and he’s the best at it! He’s got books and movies and games and everything that a little could want or need, he’s always prepared. He also carries a backpack filled with extra supplies at all times, at school he’ll leave it in his locker but if the pack is going on an outing he makes sure to have it on him. He’s also great at bedtime, he’s able to get the crankiest little to sleep with just a simple story, this annoys and impresses the older members of the pack that struggle severely to get through bedtime without losing their minds. Mason mainly watches Liam as that’s his best friend, but Hayden and Theo are looked after by him pretty frequently too. He’s extremely patient and knows that Hayden and Theo struggle to regress around others so he takes the time he can watch over them very seriously and straight to his heart ♡
Tumblr media
Corey Bryant : caregiver — Corey isn’t as physically prepared as Mason is, as in he doesn’t carry a heft of a backpack around filled with necessities. But Corey is great at listening to issues and talking an upset little down, he’s someone the littles can go to if they’re upset. He’s also pretty good at patching up scarped knees which Liam definitely appreciates. He and Mason usually watch over the three together even if Corey doesn’t ask, it’s just rare to see the pack separated even when only one of them is regressed ♡
Tumblr media
Theo Raken : flip — after everything that happens he isn’t too keen on telling anyone that he’s a flip, nor does he think anyone would believe him if he did. But after some months and some therapy, he tells Mason, Liam & Hayden. He figures out of everyone they seem the most likely to accept him and he’s right, they’re all surprisingly nice about it and supportive. Eventually Hayden, Mason and Corey even get Theo to regress around them and even if he is a clingy sniffling mess the whole time, they don’t get mad, don’t punish him, it’s like a breath of fresh air compared to his last caregivers. He’s never had someone care for him like they do, and when Liam starts to regress at the same time as Theo he’s over the moon. They get along great and while Theo falls into a much more reserved and shy headspace than Liam, he’s still happy to take Liam’s hand and go on whatever adventures the latter desires. When Theo’s caregiving it’s usually only to Liam and maybe Hayden, but he try’s his best. He doesn’t have a lot of practice and has to call Mason and Corey up a thousand times to double check things, but he isn’t as bad as he thought he’d be. He likes carrying Liam on his hip and making them both lunches as cooking is about the only thing Theo can get right every time. At some point the rest of the pack find out about his classification and Theo has a minor freak out about it, he’s quickly calmed down when he realizes that nobody’s mad at him. Not even Stiles makes a joke about it. Theo still sticks to Hayden, Mason, Corey and Liam after the rest find out out, but nobody minds and that means the world to Theo ♡

FICTOBER 2020 - day seven
Prompt #6: “That was impressive.”
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Characters: Hayden Romero, Scott McCall
Triggers: Discussion of Death
Words: 1711
Author’s Note: Hayden’s adjusting super well to being a werewolf. Adjusting is what she does. But adjusting to everything else that happened to her... That might be a little more of a struggle. Set post-5B, pre 6A. Hayden POV. For @daughterofluthien
>> incremental steps
Running.
So fast and so far and so strong it feels like she’s flying, leaves kicking up under the balls of her feet and wind ripping freely through her hair.
It’s her favorite part of her new body.
She’s always loved to run, first out in the backyard with her sister and then on the field for soccer, but running alone has always been her favorite. It feels like nothing—no one—can ever catch her, ever tell her to stop.
There’s a power that thrums through her veins now, buzzing in time to the rhythm of her steps. This is running the entire preserve in under a half hour without pausing for breath; it’s pushing up off the ground and landing a dozen yards away without even trying, it’s leaping off a ledge and flipping three times midair to land—
“Oh, shit!”
It’s the quick pivoting of the body below her that saves her from crashing headfirst into it more than anything else, but the impact still sends both of them tumbling into the dirt.
“Sorry!” Hayden scrambles upright first, spitting leaves and shaking twigs out of her hair, slowly bringing her senses back down to the present. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t—”
She takes in the grey henley, crooked jaw, and surprisingly chill attitude at getting blindsided from a height of thirty feet. “Wait, Scott?”
“That’s me,” he says, sounding far too cheerful for the situation as he brushes his shirt off.
Hayden blinks, trying to refocus her eyes and tune out the sound of their heartbeats, hers purring gleefully along from her run, and his idling at a much more sedate pace. Her brow furrows.
“But—what’re you even doing out here? I thought you guys had lacrosse practice—” A new thought occurs to her and her blood pressure spikes, crashing her fully back into reality. “Wait, were you following me?”
“Uh.”
That’s a yes.
All the freedom she’d felt to just be from earlier vanishes, now viewed from the perspective of an outsider.
“So you saw—” Hayden flushes, remembering the excessive flipping she’d done. “Oh, god.”
“No, it’s okay, really.” Scott heaves himself back onto his feet, nodding towards the ledge she’d just jumped from. “Actually, I, uh—I was just going to say that was impressive.”
Hayden feels like the words should be mocking, but there’s nothing but sincerity in his voice.
“…Oh.” She hadn’t been expecting that, and a warm rush of pride overtakes the heat of embarrassment. “Really?”
“Yeah.” Scott’s smile is warm, too. “I just—you’ve been adjusting to your powers really well. Faster than most people.”
Hayden’s pretty used to adjusting to things. Losing her parents, her kidney, her life. Gaining something for once is a nice change.
She shrugs like it’s not a big deal. “I had powers before the bite, even if they were a little different. Guess being a fish boy’s science experiment has some perks.”
Scott arches his eyebrows.
“Mason’s fault,” she says. “Their outfits looked like those weird old diving suits with like, the copper plating and tubes and stuff, and fish are—look, it doesn’t have to make sense.”
Scott laughs, and Hayden’s startled to realize it’s a sound she’s never heard it before. “Probably a good mindset for most of the things that happen around here.”
“Yeah, I’m getting that idea.” Hayden fidgets, her muscles upset at the sudden end to her workout. Too much thinking, not enough running.
Since Scott seems unbothered by the delay, she pursues it herself. “So like. If I’m doing great at the whole werewolf thing, why did you follow me?”
Instead of answering directly, Scott looks over at the ledge that’d started the whole altercation and nods towards it. “How’d you know you could fall that far?”
“I just—did? I mean, I’ve jumped pretty far by myself. And it’s not like it’s the first thing I’ve jumped off of.”
Scott nods. “Incremental training. You do something at lower levels of risk until you know you’re ready for the real thing.”
“Sure, I guess.”
Scott falls quiet, his hands slipping into his pockets. Hayden senses—something radiating off him, that wasn’t there before. She’s good at controlling the physical aspect of her powers, but the finer points like chemosignals or whatever are a little fuzzier.
Not that she has any intention of telling him that. She can figure it out on her own.
And if not, she can still read body language well enough to know that what she’s sensing in Scott is unease.
She really doesn’t want to have that kind of conversation right now.
“I probably need to—”
“The full moon’s coming up in about a week.” Scott winces, either at interrupting her or at the statement itself. Probably both. “I know we already gave you the basic run-through before you got bit, but. If you have any questions, I can help. Your first time can be a little… intense.”
“Apparently not just your first.”
It’s a terrible thing to say; she realizes that the second after it crashes into the conversation. But she’d be lying if she said she hasn’t thought about it.
A lot.
“Um.” Scott rubs at the back of his neck, turning into the massage just enough to avoid eye contact. “That doesn’t usually—I mean—”
He sighs. “There were a lot of factors involved.”
Despite how much she doesn’t want to have this conversation, Hayden doesn’t miss the way Scott’s hand drifts over his chest.
She checks her eyes for mercury sometimes, too.
“I’m sorry,” she blurts out, before she can think better of it.
For his part, Scott just cocks his head to the side. “For what?”
“I’m kind of—I mean, he used me—” Hayden gestures vaguely, hoping he’ll get the point. She’s not good at this. “With Liam.”
Scott, obnoxiously, just looks even more confused. “What—”
“Liam chose me over you.”
It’s blunt, but. Judging by the way Scott flinches, it gets the point across.
“He shouldn’t have done that. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’d have been a fan of not dying, but…” Hayden shrugs and her eyes focus on the scuffed up toes of her shoes. “…He shouldn’t have done that.”
Scott bites his lip, his eyes clearly focused elsewhere, then slowly drops down into a crouch on the forest floor. He looks up at her, and she takes that as an invitation to do the same. He only starts speaking after they’re both settled.
“Liam wasn’t…” Scott sighs. “Anger’s not exactly like that.”
Hayden’s own anger flares. “What, moral?”
“No, it’s like… you dying was a reality for Liam at the time, right? Whereas me dying was just… a hypothetical.”
“Pretty messed up hypothetical.”
“No argument there,” Scott agrees. “But being angry that you were dying—that was a good thing. The problem is that anger is really, really powerful. And sometimes we’re so angry about one thing, we let it make us do some other thing that winds up being just as bad.”
Hayden’s angry about a lot of things. Even before all this.
“So is that gonna be me? I’m just angry all the time until one day I snap and try to kill someone?”
“No,” Scott says. “You’re not a monster.”
“Then what am I?” There’s the anger again, and wouldn’t it be so ironic if this were what made her snap? “Because so far all I’ve accomplished is helping to get you killed, working for the guy that did it, and then just getting saved again.”
She can feel her claws wanting to come out, and she wants to run, to run where she can’t hurt anyone and no one can stop her and—
“Hayden, hey, it’s okay.”
A sense of calm washes over her, and when she glances up, Scott’s eyes are tinged crimson. She takes a deep breath, then another.
The claws recede.
“See? Incremental steps.” Scott smiles. “And I’m still here, so you didn’t get me killed.”
“You still died, Scott.” The anger’s gone from her voice, replaced by its worser cousin: fear. “And don’t tell me that didn’t matter because I—because I did, too.”
And there it is.
Treacherously, a tear escapes her eye, and she hastily wipes it away.
But not before making sure it isn’t bright and silver.
Scott doesn’t comment on it. “If it makes you feel better, it’s not the first time I’ve died.”
That is definitely not the sentence Hayden had expected to come out of Scott’s mouth, and if it’s meant as a distraction, it works pretty well. “That mean anything?”
“Means I’ve had more practice.”
Hayden snorts. She wipes at another tear, one that’s definitely still just salt and water. “Didn’t know it worked that way.”
Scott smiles ruefully. “I’m pretty sure I got worse at it every time, actually.”
“Your pep talks suck.”
The laugh from before returns. Hayden counts that as a win, somehow.
“Look,” he says, eventually. “The thing about anger is that it’s really easy to let it get anchored in the past. And life’s like that, too. But… if you get too focused on the past itself, instead of what it means for now, or even for the future, it’s easy to let it take you to some messed up places.”
“Like with Liam?”
“And a bunch of other people that had it even worse, yeah.”
Hayden considers this. “So what do you do?”
“Well, you don’t ignore it.” The way Scott says the words makes it abundantly clear that he’s tried. “And you can’t go at it all at once. So—” Scott nods towards the ledge—“you work at it a little bit at a time.”
The corners of Hayden’s lips quirk upwards. “Incremental steps?”
His responding grin is blinding. “You got it.”
Scott rises to his feet, dusting off his jeans again, while Hayden watches—this time, a sense of shared understanding between them.
Hayden clears her throat and looks up at him. “So what’s the first step?”
“For now,” Scott says, and he reaches his hand out to her, “think you beat me in a run?”
Hayden looks at Scott’s deep red eyes, then his hand, then his eyes again.
They’re a rich, warm brown.
She takes his hand.
“You’re on.”

Some of us are Human - The Country Club and Lydia’s Lake House (Chapter 15)
Author: what_the_hell_is_a_stiles826
Characters: Stiles Stilinski, Scott McCall, Lydia Martin, Malia Tate/Hale, Theo Raeken, Derek Hale, Melissa McCall, Blaze, Jessica Eastman, Braeden, Rhiannon King, Issac Lahey, Liam Dunbar, Hayden Romero, Yeta Vanderness, Alan Deaton and Reader.
Summary: When another local goes missing, everyone is back on high alert. Deaton helps with the next part of the plan to stop the Jinn while Blaze and Jessica have their final sacrifice. Then the missing is randomly reported to be home safe after all, so the Pack takes a much needed break to enjoy their Fourth of July at Theo’s Country Club. Only, Jessica compelled the reporter to say what she wanted and no one has any idea it was false news.
Note: First of all, I’m sorry this chapter took me so long. To be honest, I was struggling with it a bit and almost scrapped it a couple of times. I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go with it (knowing my ultimate goal) I just couldn’t figure out how to get there. But here it is, I’m sorry if it sucks. Not really.
Warning: Cursing, Violence, Fluff.
Chapter Fifteen - Chapter Sixteen
Tumblr media
“That’s all it says?” Scott asked his tired voiced mother over the phone as he pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration.
“Just that she was severely dehydrated, had body shakes, very sensitive to light and sound. Her mother swore she was seeing things and that there was more going on but the doctor ruled it as drug withdrawal.” Melissa explained as she walked down the hospital hallway to return the file she’d been explicitly reading.
“Alright, well I gotta get back to class. Thanks, Mom.” Scott replied into his phone in the middle of Stanford’s large and busy hallway. He hung up with a sigh, figuring Stiles and Y/n’s hunch to be correct about Jessica being in the hospital during her transition. Then he remembered something else they’d said, something about Holly. He pulled his phone back out and redialed his mom’s cellphone.“Hey, I just remembered something else. Can you look up Holly Newman’s file? She had to have been treated there.” He asked desperately, leaving the hallway and giving up on school for the day to head home after a not so good feeling arose in his stomach.
________________________________
You woke up in your own bed for the first time in weeks. You didn’t have class today and took full advantage of sleeping in. You rolled over and rubbed your fists into your sleepy eyes, then reached to your right and felt the cold and empty sheets that Stiles would normally inhabit. The loneliness pressed on your heart for a few moments before you finally drifted back into a light sleep.
The clock read 12:02 p.m.
Your eyes barely fluttered open as you heard him sneak inside your room and felt him slowly climb in bed next to you. You snuggled your back up to his chest, happy he was done for the day. Somehow between the two of you, you were still managing to pass every subject. Even with everything going on back in Beacon Hills. It’d been quiet since Blaze disappeared, even the Jinn hadn’t made a recent appearance. You worried about what that really meant though.
“Morning.” You mumbled, still half asleep. Stiles pulled you in closer and smiled.
“Good afternoon.” He corrected you. It’d been another late night of homework and plotting before you both finally crashed. The plan was to meet up with Theo, then Deaton today and decide on your next move. Theo has taken comfort in a more local Country Club that he himself had purchased and you all were invited into later. It seemed like the perfect chance at a summer get away, for the time being anyways.
Tumblr media
~A Few Days Ago~
During the events at Motel 66, Blaze had his own agenda. It’s why he needed you all distracted and miles and miles away. He’d finally gotten Jessica back to herself, after he lost count of how many blood bags she sucked down in an impressive amount of time. Then they initiated on finding their final sacrifice.
The Jinn, busy keeping all of you occupied that night wasn’t an option to help them anymore. It was up to Jessica and Blaze to find this final sacrifice and get it done and over with. They happened upon Yeta Vanderness, a local girl that was obsessed with dance. She’d been home schooled after the seventh grade and took multiple dance classes in the mean time. And now, she was in Jessica’s sights. Young, strong and alone on her way to Ballet class, Jessica followed her, using her vampire speed and heightened senses while remaining all too quiet. Yeta never suspected a thing.
Jessica grabbed her once she arrived at the studio and dragged her back to Blaze’s cabin.
~Present Time~
They were back at the Old Mill in a specifically small room, the walls covered in blackened boards and the floor scattered with ash. Yeta sat alone, tied up to the one pipe left standing, near the door. She could feel the ash sticking to her sandals and creating a gray dust underneath her pants. The air smelled of faint smoke and burned wood and plaster from the once sturdy walls. She had each arm draped around the large pipe, that strung from the ceiling and her hands tied together tight. She looked around, hardly remembering how she ended up here.
“Hello?” Yeta's voice cracked, it echoing down the empty hallway. She coughed up some dust and ash, her throat slightly burning. She tapped her metal ring that sat on her left thumb against the pipe, trying to make enough sound to locate help. “Hello!” She repeated a little louder.
Nothing.
Down that hall and into the open, darkened factory floor stood Blaze and Jessica preparing for their final sacrifice and how she’d bring Holly back to them. Blaze read over the spell in his hand me down spell book a dozen times, while Jessica prepared the buckets for her part. This final sacrifice would be the most important yet, giving Blaze all the power he needed. He had to prepare for that as well, knowing the timing of the kill along with the gathering of her strength and the draining of Jessica’s blood had to be done absolutely perfectly.

Meanwhile Stiles laid flat on his back, buried in blankets on your couch with his legs sprawled out and his feet nearly hanging over the edge as you had the left side of your body draped over top of his and the remaining half sinking in between the cushions. He ran his fingers down your soft, y/h/c hair and placed his free hand on your back. You wanted everyday to be like this; you never felt safer. You took in a long, deep breath, relaxing every muscle in your body against Stiles, closing your eyes. He flipped through the channels on your flat screen, stopping at the sound of a news channel reporting another missing girl.
“Yeta Vanderness, twenty years old and from Beacon Hills, California never returned home after ballet lessons a few mornings ago. If you see someone matching her description, we ask you to please call your local police department immediately.”
Then you opened your eyes as it all came flooding back. Jessica, Blaze, the Jinn and all their sacrifices. It’s not that you’d all given up. Derek and Braedon had continued searching with no leads as their relationship inevitably ignited with another spark during the tough case. Peter and Argent continued searching on their own terms as well, while Scott had missed even more school than you trying to find anything that might help. Anything that might stop this.
But now, someone else was missing. You had to save this one, you had to stop it.
“I think we should go find Lydia and Theo now.” Stiles spoke up. You slowly sat up, nodding in agreement.
______________________________
Scott marched into Derek’s apartment that afternoon after seeing the news himself. Malia was at Lydia’s family’s lake house with her and Theo, waiting and keeping an eye on things. Specifically Theo, whom she still did not trust. They needed a secluded place that everyone could meet and decide their next move together. Somewhere safer than Scott’s house and unknown to Blaze. Scott shuffled inside and pulled the large sliding door closed behind him.
“Derek!” Scott hollered as he turned. The tall werewolf came around the corner, topless and clearly with company. Scott cleared his throat awkwardly in realization. “It’s happening, they took someone else.” He explained. Derek scrunched his face, beyond frustrated by the difficulties of finding this one man. This one man who was a Witch and clearly knew how to cover his scent.
“What do you want me to do, Scott?” Derek threw his hands down. Braeden entered the room, tossing her hair up into a loose bun and walking to the fridge. “I’ve been trying to find the bastard for days.” He concluded.
“Well, we can’t just let her die.” Scott added. Braeden removed the orange juice from the fridge and poured herself a small glass.
“Maybe we need to try something different.” She joined in between sips.
Tumblr media
“What do you mean?” Derek asked, curious about his lover’s advice on things. Scott shifted to face her.
“Maybe instead of trying to catch his scent or Jessica’s scent we should just think about where they might go. We checked the cabin, once. Maybe they’re there now. Or is there anywhere else you can think of that he might of taken her? Somewhere he’s gone before?” Braeden brainstormed as she leaned over the counter top with her juice. Derek scratched smiled at her, impressed and then he made eye contact with Scott.
“The Mill.” Scott added enthusiastically.
“I’ve checked there too.” Derek quickly replied.
“Okay, but now he’s found his final sacrifice. It’s where he took Y/n. We have to look again.” Scott pleaded, knowing he’d go alone if he had to. Derek sighed, glancing Braeden’s way before crossing his arms in thought.
“Alright.” He agreed. “What the hell does that place mean to him anyway? Why there?” Derek thought out loud. Scott thought a moment.
“I just figured it was abandoned and easily accessed.” Scott shrugged.
“Witches go to a place of meaning to them to harvest power. If he keeps going back there, it has to mean something to him.” Derek explained. Scott furrowed his brow and reached for his phone in his pocket.
“Head to Lydia’s lake house, both of you. Theo is there with something that could help us. I’m going to go talk to Deaton about it and then I’ll meet you there.” Scott told them. His phone vibrated in his hands and as he raised it up to see who texted him, Derek had another question.
“What about Stiles and Y/n?” Derek asked of your involvement.
“They’re on their way there already.” Scott showed off the text message he just received from his best friend before heading out to the Animal Clinic. Now that they had a piece of Theo’s revived soul, they needed to know how to use it. He planned to figure that out as soon as possible.
______________________________
“What’s wrong?” Stiles asked you. You turned to him in the moving, bouncy Jeep as you both made your way to Lydia’s lake house.
“What?” You questioned. He noticed how oddly quiet you’d been, staring out the window nearly the entire car ride. “Nothing.” You shook your head.
“Well, something’s on your mind.” Stiles noted. You sighed dramatically.
“I don’t know, it’s just this whole thing. We keep trying to save these people...” You trailed off.
“I know.” Stiles understood.
“It does feel like the Darach all over again. I keep hearing Cora’s voice saying ‘All you really do is find the bodies’ over and over in my head.” You lowered your head. Stiles reached over and placed his hand on top of your thigh. You looked up at him and slightly grinned, placing your hand on top of his.You took comfort in his touch the rest of the way, knowing it was time for action and to stop feeling sorry for yourself. The radio went to commercial and Stiles reached over to turn the volume down. But then you heard her name. “Wait, turn that back up.” You said.
“We are happy to report that Yeta Vanderness has been found alive and well as of a couple of hours ago. She was away with a friend and returned home to her family safe and sound.”
You turned to your boyfriend, who pressed his lips together in relief. You smiled at him, feeling much better about seeing your friends and sharing the good news.
News that you still had time.
After pulling into the driveway of Lydia’s lake house, you took a deep breath as you once again stared at the beauty of it. Every brick, every board perfectly in place with beautiful flower bushes and an endless line of trees surrounding it. Across the large and winding driveway was the boat shed, right on the glistening lake. Stiles turned to you and smiled, taking it all in with you.
“Shall we?” He asked kindly. You smiled and hopped out of the Jeep. He came around and grabbed your hand in his and walked you up the stone path. Stiles hadn’t been here in quite some time. He stared at the lake as he walked with you. He watched it crash into the dock when a large and speedy boat created a decent wake. It's been since Stiles and Lydia were still together and she just wanted to get away for a weekend. Despite how things were now, it was a good memory that Stiles still held close. “I’m glad her family didn’t sell this place.” Stiles admitted, turning back to you. You softly grinned as you slowly opened the front door after a small and short knock. It was enough to catch some of the rooms attention.
Inside smelled like freshly baked cookies and something with pumpkin, it reminded you of Fall. You noticed the lit up wax warmer on the coffee table, creating that delicious smelling aroma. The pearly white carpet felt unbelievably soft under your feet and you immediately understood why Stiles said what he said. This house felt safe, warm and comfortable.
Lydia, dressed in heels and a peach colored, knee length dress, looking as gorgeous as ever was seen sifting through the crowd with drinks in hand before she stopped in front of Parrish, who uncomfortably stood in the corner of the very large living room. Liam smiled and waved at you from across the room where he stood next to Hayden, who was lost in conversation with Malia. Derek sat rubbing his hands together on the sofa when Braeden grabbed his hand in hers and smiled at him, calming those forever nerves.

“Hey guys, about time.” Issac spoke as he appeared before the two of you. He handed you a glass of wine and gestured towards the kitchen you could barely see into. “Food’s in there. Uh Stiles, want a drink?” He asked, mainly out of respect for you. Your boyfriend shook his head while looking around at the room full of your laughing, slightly buzzed friends.
“Sure, thanks. What is this?” He asked. Issac turned back to you to answer Stiles’s question.
“Uh, well the girl was found. Safe. I don’t know if you heard-“ He started off.
“We heard. On the way here.” You corrected.
“Yeah, so Lydia decided to order in dinner and make some drinks. Everyone seemed pretty into it, we could all use some down time.” He shrugged.
“Hmm.” Stiles licked his lips. “Where’s Scott?”

Deaton stood in the Animal Clinic in his familiar white lab coat, washing off some surgical instruments at the sink while Scott stood across from him, behind the examining table with his arms crossed.
“What if I told you, we got a piece of Theo’s revived soul. What would you say?” He asked his boss. Deaton spun around, wiping his hands dry with a towel.
“I’d say I’m impressed you got that far.” He shrugged. Scott deadpanned him, knowing he had to have some more helpful information.
“What would we do next?” He asked, letting his arms fall to then rest his palms on the counter behind him. Deaton threw the towel next to the sink, thinking about his answer.
“You’ve already risked so much-” Deaton began.
“Please, this is important.” Scott interjected.
“It always is, I’m afraid.” Deaton replied with a sigh. After a short pause, Deaton looked to the floor in shame. “Well, first you’ll need a Hunter.” Scott furrowed his brow, unclear where this was going and growing a little concerned.

Stiles rinsed out his and yours wine glasses at the sink in Lydia’s kitchen. You smiled at him as you wiped down the counters and scraped off dirty plates of food into the garbage. Lydia came around the corner with more empty glasses. Everyone else had left to go to the Country Club with Theo.
“Oh, uh. You guys don’t have to help clean up, it’s fine.” Lydia awkwardly told you. You smiled at her, finishing off your duties by placing the remaining dishes in your hand into the dishwasher. The three of you were then distracted by the front door opening and closing.
It was Scott.
“There you are.” Stiles noted.
“Hey, guys.” He greeted you. “Malia already filled me in on Yeta.” He informed you all, after you’d already opened your mouth to tell him everything. “Where is everyone though?” You pressed your lips together in silence. “I told Derek and Braeden to come here.” Scott questioned his friends.
“They did. And then they went to the Country Club with everyone else. Theo invited all of us, but we wanted to wait for you.” You explained. Scott nodded.
“Wait, he doesn’t have the-“ Scott scrunched his face in concern.
“Don’t worry.” Lydia pulled the glowing syringe from her bag on the coat rack. “I’ve got it.” She concluded, shoving it back into her purse. He nodded. “So, what did Deaton tell you?” She asked him. Scott took a deep breath. It hadn’t quite sunk into his own brain yet. He needed more time.
“He’s looking into things.” He lied. “Let’s go have some fun at the Club. We deserve it.” He harshly swallowed.

You stretched your legs out in front of you, against the padded lounge chair. It was dark now, but scattered twinkly lights above the tables and bar kept things well lit. You watched Malia and Scott in the pool. They splashed and hung on each other, the glow from the pool light igniting their kicking legs below the water. You noticed Liam ordering more food at a nearby covered table with Hayden and Issac.
“I’m here!” You heard a familiar voice shout behind you. Issac stood and smiled. You quickly turned to see Rhiannon in her beach sandals and two piece approach the tall blonde and greet him with an enormous kiss on the mouth, throwing her hands behind his head. You grinned at the sight of your friends finally enjoying themselves.
“Last one in has to order me food!” Rhiannon yelled as she ran for the pool, diving into it and pushing water over Scott’s shoulders. Issac laughed at her, covering his face. He quickly followed, while Liam stayed and stuffed his face full of more free chips.
“Nice one, Rhi!” You teased as she plunged out of the water, pushing her wet hair down. She jolted your way, not knowing you were near.
“Y/n! Hey! Get in.” She asked you, pushing her bottom lip out as far as it could go when a stream of bright light appeared above you all in the sky and let off a loud boom.
Fireworks.
It only made sense. It was the Fourth of July, after all. You’d almost forgotten. The sky was illuminated by bright colors and everyone was looking up, totally distracted by them. Stiles finally returned from the bar with your drinks. He kicked off his flip flops and sat behind you. You cradled yourself in between his legs and happily accepted the fruity beverage he handed you. “Just in time for fireworks.” You turned a little to kiss him on the cheek before taking a sip. “I feel a little bad though.” You admitted, looking up to Stiles and placing your forehead against the bottom of his chin. He rested into you and placed his drink on the table to your right.
“I know. But Y/n, we’re in college. Having a night like this here and there is like a rite of passage.” He squeezed you against him, tighter and forcing a smile onto your face.
“It won’t take long for Blaze to take someone else.” You mentioned. Stiles sighed loudly, his breath gently blowing against your baby hairs.
“And we’ll go after him.” He confirmed. You both watched the night sky light up in blues and reds. The occasional waiter would come around to refill your drinks as the two of you remained snuggled up together.

“It worked!” Jessica paraded back into the factory, overwhelmed with joy that her plan to compel the local news anchorwoman to say whatever she wanted went so smoothly. She plopped down in the window sill, absorbing the moonlight. “It’s been so long since I’ve been able to do that.” She sighed, happily as she watched Blaze move Yeta into a metal chair in the center of the factory floor and tighten her bonds.
“So they think she’s home safe?” Blaze asked for confirmation as he watched Yeta shed a tear from her tired, red eyes.
“Yep.” Jessica replied, hopping down from the window and proceeding to her chair that sat directly across from Yeta’s.
You’re insane.” Yeta snapped as another tear escaped.
“Well, that’s not very nice.” Jessica laughed. “Tell me, do you have any siblings?” She asked the frightened girl, as Blaze placed the empty buckets on each side of her. “I’ll take your pouty face as a yes. Wouldn’t you do anything for them?” She set her arms out to rest at her sides, her forearms face up. “What if one of them died?” She squinted her eyes at the final sacrifice across from her.
“Enough.” Blaze hollered. “Let’s do this.” He turned to Yeta, ready to drain the life from her. Ready to bring back Holly. Ready for it all.

Back at the Country Club you watched the final mortar explode across the dark sky above you and your friends. Stiles had grown hungry and disappeared somewhere near the bar to order food. The pool sat empty while everyone who previously occupied it had gone to change. You noticed Scott exit the men’s bathroom and rub a towel through his damp black hair. He looked over to you and smiled, then headed your way. You scooted over and he sat down to join you.
“Hey.” He said, simply.
“Where’s Malia?” You smiled.
“Full moon.” He gestured up. “She just needed a break.” You looked to the bright, perfectly round moon having no clue that tonight was also a full moon. Malia had come a long way, but she was still the most effected by it.
“She alright?” You asked.
“She’s fine. Told me to stay, actually demanded it.” He shrugged. You giggled. “Where’s Stiles?” He asked, finally noticing his absence.
“Food.” You giggled some more.
“Ah.” Scott replied with a smirk. A few moments passed, and the Club began to clear out. You reached for your cellphone, reading the time to be 10:46 p.m. You’d in fact been laying low all day.
“You know I feel kind of bad.” You sighed, shoving your phone back in the cushion of the lounge chair. “Taking a beat like this, not looking for Blaze.” You added. He nodded, placing his forearms against his thighs and leaning forward.
“Yeah, me too.” Scott nodded. “He’ll find someone else.” He turned to you. “I hate waiting for that to happen.” You bit your lip in frustration. “But I think this is a good thing, maybe we needed to step back so we can come up with something better. I don’t know.” He sighed again. You nodded in agreement.
“Do you believe he can actually bring Holly back?” You gulped. “That something like that is actually possible?” You questioned your Alpha.
“I don’t know what I believe.” He answered honestly. “Kind of makes you wonder, doesn’t it?” He turned back to face you.
“What?” You tilted your head in wonder.
“If it is possible.” Scott licked his lips in thought. “The people we’ve lost...” He trailed off. His words sent a shock directly to your heart, realizing what he was referring to. You scrunched your face in worry and then let your expression lighten at the thought of seeing your best friend again; of seeing Allison again. You swallowed the pain in your throat, trying to shove the thought out of your mind. “It’s not like I would ever try. Hurt people to get her back.” He let out a breath, rubbing his hands together awkwardly.
“I know, Scott. I know.” You said, placing your hand on his shoulder to comfort his guilt.
“I guess I just feel guilty for even thinking it.” He shrugged. You wanted to tell him it was okay and he wasn’t a bad person for thinking about it. He loved her, and love does crazy things to people. But then his phone rang, interrupting the moment entirely. “Hey, Mom.” He answered her call.
Melissa-Good, you’re still awake.
Scott-What did you find?
Melissa-Well, it’s not good.
Scott-What is it?
Melissa-The reason that Holly Newman was admitted into the hospital that day...
Scott-She was attacked in the woods right?
Melissa-*sigh* Yeah. At first they thought it was another mountain lion. But Scott...
Scott-What? What was it then?
Melissa- A wolf. It was a wolf.
Tumblr media
You noticed his frightened expression. Scott immediately feared that maybe Holly, Blaze, all of it was more connected to your world than you all thought. Which only made Blaze’s intentions that more terrifying. Was it a wolf? Or was it a werewolf?
“What is it, Scott?” You asked as he turned to you.

Chapter 14: Shape-Shifted
Pairing: Stiles Stilinski x OC (eventually)
Warnings: Violence, mentions of abuse, language
<<< Previous || Masterlist || Next >>>
After coming out of that weird trance the doctors called a fugue state, Lydia and I were admitted to the hospital for two more days. When we were released, Griffin made sure I stayed home the rest of the week and rested. Texting with Lydia, I learned that her mom was making her stay at home, too.
During the week I had off, Scott and Stiles came and explained that Lydia and I had been missing for almost two days. Scott explained that Allison’s grandfather showed up for Kate’s funeral, and he’s definitely a hunter. It turned out it was another werewolf that attacked the ambulance, and that werewolf got caught in one of the traps the Argents have in the woods. Scott had gone to help him, but Derek showed up and held him back.
The Argents called the werewolf an omega, because he was without a pack. He had sworn he hadn’t hurt anyone, and the guy in the ambulance was already dead, but Allison’s grandfather did that hemicorporectomy thing with a sword- where you amputate someone at the waist. I don’t think I’m getting that visual out of my head for a while.
Apparently that’s why Allison’s grandfather and the other hunters are here- they’re declaring war. Peter killed Kate, one of their own, and no matter what she did, it looks like the Argents got rid of their code. Scott said the hunters were going to hunt down every werewolf in Beacon Hills, and it’s why Derek told Scott that he needs to join his pack.
The only way to fight them, Derek said, is together.
____________
Finally able to go back to school Monday morning, I step out of the apartment and into the hallway, locking the door behind me. At the same time, my neighbor came out of her own apartment a few doors down. Hayden Romero, an eighth grader whose sister works with Griffin at the sheriff’s station, locked the door behind her, adjusting the bag on her back. I met her over break when Griffin and I first moved in.
“Hey, Hayden,” I greet, both of us moving toward the elevator.
“Hey, Vivian,” she replies. “First day back?”
I nod. “Yep.” We start walking toward the elevator. “How are you?”
“I’m good,” she answers. “Midterms are in a few weeks, so the teachers are going crazy, piling on homework, especially math. I have zero idea of what’s going on in that class.”
“Well, I can help if you want,” I offer as we reach the elevator. I press the down button and we wait.
“Really?” Hayden asks, and, at my nod, relief washes over her face. “Oh, my God, that would be awesome. I have no idea what I’m doing, and I have to pass this class. Thanks, Vivian.”
“No problem,” I chuckle as the doors open and we step inside, Hayden pressing the button for the lobby.
“Hold the door, please!” I hear a woman call, and I manage to catch the doors before they close, separating them again.
Mrs. Svorski, the sweet old Ukranian lady who lives right next to me, steps into the elevator. “Thank you, darlings,” she greets in her thick accent, a smile on her face. The doors close, and the elevator starts moving. She turns to me. “How are you doing?”
I inwardly sigh. I suppose the whole town heard about the attack, and then about me running around the woods in only a hospital gown. “I’m fine,” I answer, mustering a small smile.
“Well, you let me know if you need anything.” I nod, and her gaze moves toward mine and Hayden’s backpacks. “Going to school?”
“Yes, ma’am,” I say, Hayden nodding in agreement.
“Good,” she says, adjusting her handbag strap. “A good education is the best thing a person can have. You girls get good grades?”
We both nod, and Mrs. Svorski continues, “Good. Grades matter, they are what get you to a good school. But you know what gets you through life?” Hayden and I shake our heads, and Mrs. Svorski grins. “Gumption! Something I can feel you both have in abundance.”
Hayden and I exchange smiles, and the elevator dings, signalling we reached the main floor. “You darlings have a good day at school, and remember- live boldly, and you’ll get everything you want in life.”
She strides down the hall, head held high, showing off her own share of gumption.
“I’ll see you later,” I tell Hayden. “Let me know when you want me to come help with math.”
“Thanks, Vivian. I’ll see you,” she responds, and we split up once we get outside as she heads toward her waiting school bus.
I make my way toward Stiles’ Jeep, where he is waiting inside. I told him he didn’t have to drive me this morning, but he said he felt better picking me up than me taking the school bus by myself.
“What are you smiling about?” Stiles asks as I buckle my seatbelt.
My smile grows slightly wider. “Gumption,” I answer simply.
Stiles shakes his head, amused, as he starts his car and we head toward school.
____________
I walk up the steps to one of the side entrances between Lydia and Allison. There’s a morning practice for lacrosse, but Coach said I’m excused for the next few days as a result of the chunk missing from my side that will definitely result in a permanent scar, and running through the woods with absolutely zero memory of it. I’m not exactly complaining. I don’t have to change, but I do have to meet the team in the locker room in twenty minutes to head out to the field with them.
“You really don't remember anything?” Allison asks, the three of us stopping at the doors.
“They called it a fugue state,” Lydia explains, “which is basically a way of saying ‘We have no idea why you two can't remember running through the woods naked for two days.’” She shrugs. “But personally, I don't care. I lost nine pounds.”
I hold back a chuckle as Allison asks Lydia, “Are you ready for this?”
“Please,” Lydia scoffs. “It's not like my aunt's a serial killer.”
If I didn’t know Lydia, I would have thought she was being a jerk, for lack of a better term, but because I do know her, I know she’s joking. It’s not really obvious, but she’s definitely joking.
As Lydia walks through the doors, Allison turns to me, asking, “You sure you’ll be okay?”
I gesture to my backpack. “Hey, I got Yogi Bear here, and both my girls,” I say, trying to smile. “I’ll be fine.” Ally smiles back, and I hope she doesn’t realize that I’m mostly trying to reassure myself. Even though I’ve maintained to everyone that I’m fine, I really don’t have any idea why I can’t remember anything of the past few days. I have the worst feeling that it was a result of the bite Peter gave Lydia and I, but since we’re not werewolves, I have no idea why we were affected. Actually, I have no idea why we’re not werewolves, for that matter, even though we both survived the bite.
But, back to the first day back. I shake my head of my thoughts, taking a deep breath. “You got this, Viv,” I think, following Allison into school.
As the door closes behind me, I see Lydia has stopped walking. Allison and I stop on either side of her as I realize that a large group of people have stopped and started staring at us, as well. I anxiously finger my locket, shrinking back slightly. I wonder if this is one of those nightmares where you go to school naked.
I look down quickly at my black combat boots and jeans and gray sweater with red and blue stars all over it. My eyes flick to my right, to Lydia’s maroon dress and heels, and further past her to Allison’s blue jacket and white dress. All dressed, all good.
Allison leans closer to Lydia, saying quietly, “Maybe it's the nine pounds.”
I smirk, feeling better knowing that I really do have my best friends with me. Lydia flips her hair away from her face and almost struts down the hallway, ignoring everyone’s stares. That’s my girl.
Allison and I share a smile, and she links her arm through mine. I remember what Mrs. Svorski said this morning, and try to summon as much gumption as I can. We walk down the hallway, and I hold my head high.
____________
I eventually split from Lydia and Allison to head to the locker room. I turn a corner when I crash into a wall.
Or, what I thought was a wall. I stumble back, but feel a hand wrap around my arm, steadying me. I look up to see Matt in front of me.
“Oh, uh, thanks,” I say, straightening and adjusting my backpack on my shoulder.
“No problem,” Matt says, letting go of my arm. “So, uh, I never got a chance to come see you at the hospital. It’s been sort of chaotic at home, and I just never got the chance to get away.”
My eyebrows shoot up in surprise. “You wanted to come see me at the hospital?”
Matt nods, seemingly embarrassed. “Yeah. I just wanted to ask how you were doing?”
“I’m doing good,” I answer, feeling a little awkward. Matt and I don’t really talk much, but it’s sort of sweet of him to check on me.
“That’s good,” Matt says. “So, is it gonna leave a scar? The attack, I mean?”
I nod. “Yeah, that’s what the doctor said.”
“That’s gotta suck,” he says sympathetically. “I mean, you already have that scar from the accident and now-”
“How did you know about the accident?” I interrupt.
Matt looks flustered. “Oh, um- Jake Johnson started telling some guys on the team. I don’t hang with that kind of crowd but he was talking about it right near my locker, so I sort of heard.”
“Oh,” I say, and I suddenly feel the urgent need to get out of here. “Well, I actually have to get to practice, so- I should go.”
“Do you want to walk together?” Matt asks.
“No,” I say quickly as Matt moves to follow me down the hallway. “I mean, uh, I’m supposed to be meeting Scott and Stiles. So, I should go.” Without waiting for an answer, I tighten my grip on my bag and practically run down the hallway toward the locker room.
____________
“I'm serious,” Scott insists as the three of us walk down the hallway toward the locker room. “It's not like the last full moon. I don't feel the same.”
“Does that include the urge to maim and kill us?” I ask, gesturing between me and him.
“I swear I don't have the urge to maim and kill you,” he assures me.
“You know,” Stiles says, “you say that now but then the full moon goes up and out come the fangs and the claws and there's a lot of howling and screaming and running everywhere, okay? And it's very stressful on me and so yes, Viv and I are still locking you up.”
“Okay, fine,” Scott relents.
Scott and Stiles walk through the door to change while I stay in the hall, not wanting to be scarred for life. After a few moments, Stiles pops his head out through the door. “It’s safe for you to come in now,” he says, and I follow him to where Scott is standing by their lockers.
“But I do think I'm in more control now,” Scott continues. “Especially since things are good with Allison.”
“Okay, I'm aware of how good things are with Allison,” Stiles says.
“They're really good,” Scott continues with a grin.
Stiles rolls his eyes. “I- thank you, I know.”
Scott keeps smirking and says, “I mean, like, really good.”
“Oh, my God, I get it!” I suddenly burst. Why do I need to be part of this particular conversation? “Can you please just shut the fuck up before I have the urge to maim and kill myself.” Stiles points at me in agreement.
Scott chuckles lightly and asks, “All right, did you get something better than handcuffs this time?”
“Yeah, much better,” Stiles says, opening his locker. Immediately, the long chain starts falling to the ground, very loudly, I might add.
As Stiles flounders to stop the chain from falling, I wince, closing my eyes. Stiles eventually just lets it keep falling, and I don’t need my eyes open to know that everyone in the room has their’s on us. I hear footsteps and I open my eyes to see Coach standing next to us.
Finally, the chain stops falling, laying in a pile on the floor, and I am silent as I avoid eye contact with everyone.
“Part of me wants to ask,” Coach starts, looking at the chain. “The other part says knowing will be more disturbing than anything I could ever imagine. So- I- I'm gonna walk away.”
“That's good,” Stiles says, pointing toward Coach’s back as he leaves. “That's a wise choice, Coach.”
As we lean down to gather the chain, I notice a distracted look on Scott’s face and realize something is wrong. “You good, dude?” I ask him, gaining Stiles’ attention. “Scott.”
“There's another,” Scott whispers in amazement. “In here, right now.”
“Another what?” Stiles asks.
“Another werewolf.”
____________
As the three of us sit down on the bench, I quietly ask Scott, “Okay, wait, so there’s another werewolf on the team? How do you know?”
“It was kind of like a scent, but I couldn't tell who it was,” he says, looking around at the other guys on the team.
“What if you can get him one-on-one?” Stiles asks. “Would that help?”
“Yeah,” Scott nods.
“Okay. I think I got an idea.”
Why does this not sound like a particularly good idea?
When Stiles gets up and goes to talk to Coach, Scott turns to me. “How do you feel?” He asks.
I shrug. “Okay, I guess,” I answer.
“Does it hurt?”
“A little,” I say. “It’s healing. Doctor said it’s going to leave a wicked scar.” I smile sarcastically. “Guess no crop tops for me, huh?”
Scott and I share an uneasy laugh. “Well, I’m here if you need help, okay?” He tells me, and this time I smile for real.
“Thanks,” I say.
Suddenly, Stiles runs back up to us, carrying more gear than he had left with.
“I told Coach you're switching with Danny for the day,” Stiles tells Scott, handing him a large net.
“But I hate playing goal,” Scott says.
“Remember when I said I had an idea?” Stiles asks, waving an arm. “This is the idea.”
Scott seems to catch on. “Oh.”
“There we go,” Stiles says, putting on his gear.
Scott looks at me, still obviously confused, and I shrug, just as in the dark on this plan as he is.
“What's the idea?” Scott asks, turning back to Stiles.
“Yeah, I’d like to know, too,” I chime in, raising a hand slightly.
Stiles sighs in frustration. “I seriously don't understand how either of you survive without me sometimes.”
He grabs Scott’s shoulders, making him come closer. I lean in, and Stiles fills us in on the plan quietly. I have to admit, it is kind of a good plan.
As he finishes, Coach blows his whistle and shouts, “Let's go! Line it up! Faster! Make daddy proud.”
Everyone, minus me, goes out onto the field to start practice.
Coach blows his whistle, tossing a ball to Jake Johnson, who catches it in his net and runs toward Scott in the goal. He is almost there when Scott charges out of the goal, tackling him, making me jump in surprise.
I exchange a startled look with Stiles. This isn’t exactly what the plan was supposed to be.
Honestly, though, it’s Jake Johnson, so he kind of deserved it.
Scott helps him up and completely ignores boundaries as he sniffs Jake. I bury my head in my hands, grimacing. Jesus Christ, this was definitely not the plan.
“McCall!” Coach snaps, and I open my eyes.
“Yeah,” Scott says as he walks back into the goal.
Coach turns to the other players, saying, “Usually the goalie stays somewhere within the vicinity of the actual goal.”
“Yes, Coach,” Scott says.
“Let's try it again,” Coach says, walking back toward the bench by me.
Coach blows the whistle again and tosses the ball to the next player in line, which is Matt. He starts running toward the goal, but Scott tackles him, too. As they are both on the ground, Scott again not so subtly sniffs our teammate.
“McCall!” Coach yells, frustrated. “The position's goalkeeper. Not goal abandoner.”
“Sorry, Coach,” Scott says, getting back into the goal.
“Let's go!” Coach shouts, starting the next drill. Again, Scott crashes into him.
Coach approaches Stiles, grabbing his helmet and bringing him closer. “Stilinski, what the hell is wrong with your friend?”
Without missing a beat, Stiles answers, “Uh, he's failing two classes. He's a little socially awkward and if you look close enough, his jaw line's kind of uneven.”
Coach examines Scott like he is just noticing the jaw line thing. “That's interesting.” He lets Stiles go, walking back over to the bench. “Let's fire it up.”
He starts the next drill for Danny and this time, it is poor Danny who gets knocked down.
Coach blows his whistle, snapping, “McCall! You come out of that goal one more time and you'll be doing suicide runs ‘till you die. It'll be the first ever suicide run that actually ends in a suicide. Got it?”
“Yes, Coach,” Scott says as he heads back to the goal.
Coach turns toward me. “Yeah. Byrne, never thought I’d say this, but I am glad you aren’t playing today.”
I smile slightly. “Me, too, Coach.”
Jackson’s voice gains our attention. “Uh, Coach, my shoulder's hurting. I'm gonna- I'm gonna sit this one out.”
I exchange an intrigued look with Stiles as Jackson moves toward the benches. Well, that’s interesting. As he sits a little ways away from me, I look at him out of the corner of my eye.
Coach starts the next drill for Isaac Lahey. It could just be me, but he looks more aggressive than the other players, and he doesn’t hesitate to run toward Scott. As Scott knocks him down, they both land in a similar assertive position, like they are both poised to fight.
I turn my head sharply toward Stiles, and as his wide eyes meet mine, I know we are thinking the same thing: Isaac is the other werewolf.
Coach blows the whistle once more, and our attention turns toward Noah, Griffin, and another deputy walking toward us on the field. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion at the sight of them, wondering what is going on.
As Isaac is pulled away by the officers, Scott, Stiles, and I stand a little ways away. Scott has his head tilted toward the conversation, listening in. “His father's dead,” Scott informs us. “They think he was murdered.”
“Are they saying he's a suspect?”
Our eyes on Isaac as Noah leads him away, Scott answers, “I'm not sure, why?”
Knowing what Stiles is thinking, I continue, “Because they can lock him in a holding cell for twenty-four hours.”
“Like, overnight?” Scott questions.
“During the full moon,” Stiles confirms.
“How good are these holding cells at holding people?” Scott asks.
I tilt my head, considering. “People, good,” I say. “But werewolves? Probably not that good.”
With that lovely thought in our minds, Scott asks, “Guys, remember when I said I don't have the urge to maim and kill?”
“Yeah,” Stiles answers as I nod.
I follow Scott’s gaze to Isaac being led away by the officers.
“He does.”
____________
In science class, Scott leans over to Stiles, who is sitting between Scott and I at our lab table. “Why would Derek choose Isaac?” He whispers.
Stiles furrows his brow, thinking. “Peter told me that if the bite doesn't turn you it could kill you,” he muses. “And maybe teenagers have a better chance of surviving.”
“Doesn't being a teenager mean your dad can't hold him?” Scott asks.
“I mean, not unless they have solid evidence,” I answer. “Or a witness.”
With those words, Stiles turns his head as something occurs to him. His eyes land on Danny. “Wait. Danny. Where's Jackson?”
“In the principal's office talking to your dad,” Danny says.
Stiles flails a little. “What? Why?”
Danny looks at Stiles like it should be obvious. “Maybe because he lives across the street from Isaac.”
Stiles turns back to Scott and I as I whisper, “Witness.”
“We gotta get to the principal's office,” Stiles says.
“How?” Scott asks.
At Stiles’ face, I immediately don’t love his idea, but it will work. Reluctantly, I quietly rip a sheet of paper out of my notebook, balling it up and handing it to him.
Still facing the blackboard, Mr. Harris says, “Everyone please turn to page seventy-three.”
Stiles pulls his arm back, aims, and throws the paper ball. I wince as it hits the back of Harris’ head, causing giggles throughout the room. Harris turns angrily, demanding all of us, “Who in the hell did that?”
Stiles crosses his arms, pointing to both Scott and I as we both point to each other.
____________
Sitting in the hall outside of the office, we all lean back in our seats in what we hope is an inconspicuous way, trying to hear what Noah and Jackson are talking about. Through the glass, we hear Noah say, “Listen to me, you're telling me that you knew Isaac's father was hitting him?”
“Hitting him? He was kicking the crap out of him,” Jackson confirms.
“Did you ever say anything to anyone?” Noah asks. “A teacher, parents, anyone?”
I can practically see the look of unconcern as Jackson says, “Nope. It's not my problem.”
I shake my head angrily, grinding my teeth. Why am I surprised that Jackson never told anyone? After my parents and sister died, I had to spend some time in the foster system while social services determined if Griffin would be a good guardian. Unfortunately, I can identify with Isaac, and I wish that if someone knew what had been going on, they told someone.
Knowing exactly what I am thinking, Stiles reaches out and places a calming hand on my shoulder. I close my eyes, letting out a breath I didn’t know I was holding and leaning into his touch slightly.
Suddenly, the door opens and I snap my eyes open as Noah steps out into the hallway.
At the sight of his father, Stiles snatches a magazine from the table and covers his face with it- a bad attempt at hiding.
I bite back a snort. Pretending he does not see his son, Noah addresses Scott and I. “Hi, Scott, Vivian.”
“Hey, Uncle Noah,” I say, nervously smiling.
“H- yeah,” Scott laughs nervously, waving a little.
Noah shakes his head and walks down the hallway. As he leaves our line of vision, Stiles lowers the magazine.
“Kids,” a voice calls from behind us, making us turn quickly to see an older man in the doorway. “Come on in.”
As we get settled in the office, the man introduces himself as Gerard Argent, the new principal, and I can barely mask my shock at Allison’s grandfather being our new principal. When the hell did that happen?
“Vivian Byrne,” Gerard starts, looking at my file. “Moved here this semester, exemplary grades, but not a lot of extracurriculars. It also looks here like you attacked one Jake Johnson a few weeks ago.” He shakes his head. “That’s not good, Miss Byrne.”
I lean forward a little in my seat. “Oh, well, you see, it wasn’t really an attack- it was just one punch, and I feel what he said beforehand-” I start, but he interrupts me by snapping my file closed and moving on to Scott.
“Scott McCall. Academically not the most accomplished, but I see you have become quite the star athlete.” He closes Scott’s files and opens Stiles’. “Mr. Stilinski. Oh, perfect grades but little to no extracurriculars. Maybe you should try lacrosse.”
“Oh, actually I'm already-” Stiles starts, but Gerard interrupts him like he did me and turns back to Scott.
“Hold on. McCall.” I exchange an annoyed look with Stiles at the rudeness of this jerk. “You're the Scott that was dating my granddaughter.”
Scott shifts nervously as he struggles to say, “We were dating but not anymore. Not dating, not seeing any of each other or doing anything with each other- At all.”
Oh, my God, calm down.
Gerard looks at him in amusement. “Relax, Scott, you look like you're about to crack a cyanide pill with your teeth.”
Scott sighs. “Just a hard breakup.”
“Oh, that's too bad. You seem like a pretty nice kid to me.” He turns his attention to all of us. “Now listen, guys. Yes, I am the principal, but I really don't want you to think of me as the enemy.”
“Heh, is that so?” Stiles asks sarcastically, looking at Scott and I.
Ignoring that, Gerard continues, “However, this being my first day, I do need to support my teachers. So unfortunately someone is going to have to take the fall and stay behind for detention.”
I look to my right to Scott, who looks to his right at Stiles. After a moment of a small staring contest, Stiles sighs. “Fine.”
____________
Scott and I rush out of the school onto the front steps, just in time to see Isaac get placed in a police car and get driven away.
I shake my head in defeat. “Shit,” I say. “What the hell do we do now?”
Before Scott can answer, another car pulls up. The window rolls down, revealing Derek Hale. “Get in,” he orders.
Scott looks at him like he’s crazy. “Are you serious? You did that. That's your fault.”
“I know that,” Derek admits. “Now get in the car and help me.”
Scott shakes his head, making his way down the steps closer to Derek’s car. I follow as he says, “No, I've got a better idea. I'm gonna call a lawyer. Because a lawyer might actually have a chance at getting him out before the moon goes up.”
Derek shakes his head. “Not when they do a real search of the house.”
I freeze. “Is it that bad?”
Scott moves his eyes between Derek and I. “What do you mean?” He asks.
Derek shakes his head, saying, “Whatever Jackson said to the cops, what's in the house is worse. A lot worse.”
Derek opens the passenger side door, and Scott looks at me. “Go, I tell him. “I have to get to Allison’s.”
Scott nods and gets in the car. Derek nods at me once, then takes off.
____________
A little while later, I am at Allison’s to study, standing in the kitchen with her waiting for Lydia. We see Gerard and Chris stepping into the study. We exchange a look and move toward the doorway to listen in.
“I'm not interested in whether they locked up a sixteen-year-old kid,” Gerard says. “I'm interested in what's going to happen to that sixteen-year-old when the moon hits its peak tonight. Do we have proof?”
“Is the next step killing him?” Chris asks.
“The next step is eliminating the threat,” Gerard counters, and repeats his question. “Do we have proof?”
Chris hesitates. “I haven't been in history class for a while, but I'm pretty sure straight-up genocide hasn't worked out too often.” That’s a very good point.
“Do we have proof or not?” Gerard repeats once more.
Allison leans forward into the doorway more, careful to stay quiet. I am just behind her, out of sight.
“Not irrefutable,” Chris says, then sighs. “But not insignificant. The driver's side door of Lahey's car was pried off.”
“Pried off?” Gerard questions.
“Ripped off,” Chris corrects.
Okay, but I’m definitely not feeling bad for a child abuser, though.
Allison straightens, and I know she’s been spotted. I hear doors close a few feet away, cutting us off from eavesdropping further.
“Are they actually going to kill Isaac?” Allison asks me quietly.
I shrug helplessly. “I hope not.”
Before we can say anything else, two men in deputy attire nearly crash into Allison. “Sorry,” she mutters.
They both smile softly at us, then continue toward the front door. Allison and I exchange a worried look and our eyes follow his back until he’s out of sight.
“Allison?” Her father’s voice calls from the side, gaining our attention. Allison turns toward the study and I back up further, staying out of sight.
“Come in,” Gerard chimes. “We'd like to talk to you.”
Allison smiles slightly nervously. “I'm supposed to study with Lydia and Vivian, I really don't have time to chat.”
“Actually, that's who we want to talk to you about, sweetheart,” Chris says.
Allison moves her gaze discreetly toward me as I furrow my brows in confusion. What exactly do they want to talk to Allison about? Then again, Lydia and I did just get back from our naked jog through the woods that neither of us remember.
I point behind me so Allison knows I’m headed to her room, and she reluctantly starts walking into the study.
I hear the doors close behind her and I make my way up the stairs.
A little while later, Allison explains to me what her father and grandfather talked to her about and I try to call Stiles again. “He can’t still be in detention, can he?” Allison asks.
I shrug, and Stiles finally answers. “Hey,” I say, putting the phone on speaker so Allison can listen in.
“Hey, sorry, Harris literally just let me out of detention,” Stiles says in a rush. “Literally. And he had my phone the whole fucking time.”
“Well, we need to do something right now,” I say. “We have a big issue.”
I move the phone slightly toward Allison more so she can speak into it.
“They were asking me all these questions about Lydia and Viv and how they were bitten by Peter, and then they sent these guys out.”
“Wait, what guys?” Stiles asks.
“They were dressed as two Sheriff's deputies,” I state.
“They're sending them to the station for Isaac,” Stiles realizes.
“One of them was also carrying this box with something on it, like, um, like a carving or something,” Allison adds.
“What was it?”
Allison moves toward a stack of books on her desk. “Hold on, hold on. It's in one of these books. I'm taking a picture.”
She finds the page and I gasp at the sight of the flower.
Before she can take a photo, I interrupt her, speaking into the phone, “Stiles, we don’t need the photo. It’s wolfsbane. The carving was wolfsbane.”
“Shit,” we hear Stiles say loudly, causing Allison to look confused.
“What does that mean?” She asks.
“It means they're gonna kill him.”
We hang up, telling Stiles that Allison and I will go after the deputies and he should call Scott.
____________
Allison nocks an arrow, takes aim, and releases. The arrow flies true, burying itself into the deputies’ back tire. However, the deputies don’t even notice and Allison sighs, shooting another arrow at the front tire. This time, the tires squeal and they pull over.
Both deputies- both hunters- get out and inspect the damage.
“Wait here,” Allison whispers. She nocks another arrow, grabs her bag, and sprints to the other side of the street, purposely being loud. She hides behind a brick wall. I back up, careful to stay in the shadows, but I poke my head out to watch the scene.
Hearing her footsteps, the hunters exchange a look and make their way to the back of the car. Allison lets another arrow fly, and it buries itself in one of the hunter’s legs. Before hunter number two can do anything, she fires again, and the arrow lands in the second one’s leg. Both of them fall against the car, groaning in pain.
I whistle lowly. Guess I shouldn’t get on Ally’s bad side, huh?
Allison and I exchange a smirk as we run back over to her car. Good luck, guys.
She shoves her gear into the back seat of her car and starts it up. As we drive a safe distance away from the scene, I grin. “That was incredibly badass,” I tell her.
She smiles. “Thanks.”
“Hey,” I start, hesitant. “Would you mind teaching me?”
“What, archery?” Allison asks.
“Yeah, I just- if I’m going to be part of this world, I want to know how to defend myself,” I say.
Allison's smile widens. “Let’s do it.”
I finger my locket, smiling wide. I wonder what my family would think about me getting involved in all of this.
Before I can think too hard, my phone rings and Stiles’ name pops up on the caller ID. I answer quickly, putting him on speaker.
“Hey, did you slow him down?” Stiles asks.
Allison and I exchange a smirk as she says, “You could say that.”
“All right, well, uh, I'm headed to the station right now,” Stiles says.
“Where's Scott?” Allison asks.
“Isaac's.”
“Please tell me he has a plan,” I say.
“Yeah, but not a very good one,” Stiles confirms. “And unfortunately we don't really have time to come up with anything better.”
Allison and I exchange a concerned look. “Okay, I’m going to drop Viv at the station with you then head over there,” she says.
“All right, see you then.”
____________
A few minutes after I get to the station, Derek arrives, and I get settled in the back seat of Stiles’ Jeep while Derek sits in the passenger side.
We all look toward the front doors of the station as Stiles explains the plan. “Okay, now the keys to every cell are in a password protected lockbox in my father's office. The problem is getting past the front desk.”
“I'll distract her,” Derek says, and starts to open the door.
Stiles grabs at Derek to stop him. “Whoa, whoa, whoa- you? You're not going in there.” Derek moves his eyes between Stiles' hand on his shoulder to his face, and Stiles realizes his mistake. “I'm taking my hand off.”
Stiles removes his hand, and Derek says, “I was exonerated.”
“You're still a person of interest.”
“I mean, technically, he’s innocent,” I chime, and Derek nods toward me.
Stiles looks at me like I’m crazy, but I don’t waver, and he moves his gaze back to Derek. “In- you? Yeah, right!” Derek glares at Stiles, and he sighs. “Okay, fine. What's your plan?”
“To distract her,” Derek says, like it should be obvious.
“Uh huh. How? By punching her in the face? Unh,” Stiles says with some sort of grimace at the end, which makes me snort.
“Heh,” Derek laughs sarcastically. “By talking to her.”
“Okay, all right,” Stiles says. “Give me a sample. What are you gonna open with?” Derek doesn’t say anything. “Dead silence. That should work beautifully. Any other ideas?”
Derek thinks for a second. “I'm thinking about punching you in the face.”
Stiles’ mouth drops open and I laugh, rubbing my hands together. “All right, let’s do this, guys.”
____________
Stiles and I wait in the hallway while Derek talks to the woman at the front desk. Stiles has his head positioned so he can see around the corner, and I am just behind him.
“Good evening, how can I help- you?” The deputy trails off.
“Hi,” Derek greets. I can practically see the charm coming off of him.
“Hi,” the deputy says, and I can hear the smile in her voice.
“Um, I had a question,” Derek says. “Um, sorry I'm a little- a little thrown. I wasn't really expecting someone-”
“Like me?” The deputy asks, sounding a little disappointed.
Stiles and I start to make our way across the room, watching the scene as we go.
Derek smiles. “Oh, I was gonna say ‘so incredibly beautiful’ but, yeah, I guess that'd be the same thing.”
Stiles places a hand on my upper back, placing me in front of him so I am first in the hallway leading to his dad’s office. As we enter the hallway and are officially out of sight, I make an impressed look. “He’s good,” I whisper to Stiles, who huffs and rolls his eyes.
We enter the dark office, and Stiles inputs the numbers into the tiny safe where they keep the keys to the holding cells. He opens the door and we find… nothing.
“Where are they?” I ask quietly, getting the worst feeling.
“They’re already here,” Stiles confirms, his voice filled with dread.
Suddenly, we hear keys clinking outside and our eyes go wide.
“Oh, no,” I whisper.
“Stay close,” he tells me quietly, and I nod, both of us heading toward the sound quickly.
We run out into the hallway, and Stiles suddenly stops as we nearly crash into someone. “Oh,” he mumbles as we back up. Two someones. The hunters Allison slowed down. Shit.
My eyes widen. Stiles moves an arm in front of me, shielding me slightly, and I grab onto it. Stiles attempts to come up with a cover story, stammering, “Uh, just looking, um-” Stiles’ eyes trail down to the blood on the floor, and back up to their legs, where arrows are sticking out of one leg on each hunter.
The hunters look down as well before looking back at us. I tighten my grip on Stiles’s arm as he mutters, “Oh, shit-”
As one of the hunters seizes Stiles, covering his mouth, the other roughly grabs me around my waist, effectively separating us. His tight grip on my wound makes me wince. Stiles, who had started flailing in his captor’s arms, thrashes harder when he hears me breathe in sharply in pain.
I start hitting the hunter who has me, yelling, “Get the fuck off me, asshole!” but he doesn’t loosen his grip, instead making an attempt to cover my mouth like his friend did with Stiles.
As he succeeds in placing a hand over my mouth, I bite his finger instinctively. He immediately cries out in pain, and I taste something metallic. It takes a second to figure out it was blood. Ew.
Out of the corner of my eye, I spot a fire alarm. As the hunters drag Stiles and I past it, I manage to reach out enough to pull it, sending an alarm blaring throughout the building.
When we get to the cell area, the hunters drop us on the floor. Immediately, I move over to Stiles, who grabs me and pulls me behind him.
The deputy holding the box opens it, pulling out a syringe filled with wolfsbane. We follow his gaze to an open cell that I’m positive is supposed to be closed.
Suddenly, both hunters are thrown across the room, as Isaac comes out of nowhere. The one who grabbed me hits his head on the wall, hard, and falls to the ground, unconscious. The other is pushed up against the desk by a very Hulked-out Isaac Lahey.
As Isaac throws the hunter across the room, Stiles grabs me and shoves me behind the desk to hide behind. He keeps a protective grip on my shoulder as Isaac growls at the hunter, who is still trying to shoot him up with wolfsbane.
Isaac grabs the hunter’s arm, breaking it and making him drop the syringe. Isaac grabs his head and shoves it into the wall, knocking him out.
Suddenly, Derek comes in and steps on the syringe, smashing it and causing the contents to leak out.
Isaac looks at Derek, then spots us behind the desk. I tense, ready to either run or fight, and Stiles tightens his grip on me.
Isaac takes a step in our direction but Derek, who has shifted himself, his eyes glowing their alpha-red color, steps between us, roaring.
Immediately, Isaac falls back, huddling against the wall and covering his face. He slowly lifts his gaze, and I see that he has shifted back to human.
I nod when Stiles looks back at me, letting him know I’m fine. I ask him the same question silently, and he nods back.
Stiles and I slowly stand up. “How did you do that?” Stiles asks Derek, who has shifted back to human as well.
“I'm the alpha,” Derek states simply.
Knowing Isaac can’t stay here, Derek takes Isaac out and away from the station.
After a few minutes, the fire alarm stops. Noah, Griffin, and a group of other deputies arrive at the scene. Noah and Griffin look from us to the passed out deputies on the ground to the open cell back to us, expecting an answer.
Stiles exchanges a look with me, then glances behind him to the open cell door, then points to the two unconscious hunters. “Uh, they did it.”

Chapter Thirty-Eight - Chapter Thirty-Nine - Chapter Forty
Tumblr media
"Just to clarify, Sylvie, you don't think that reciting the Maqlû will kill her?" Stiles asked into the speaker of your phone, which was resting in his hand between the two of you as you both sat up in your bed, the night before the ritual was supposed to take place.
"No. I read what you sent me. Frankly, it sounds more like an offensive coven charm, than anything else." Sylvie Reneé Ducette, the coven witch from Louisiana who brought Allison back to life only a few months before, said through the speaker.
"It offended you?" Stiles was confused.
"No, an offensive charm.. like an attack spell." You explained quietly, rubbing your bottom lip between your thumb and index finger.
"Oui, mon chéri. It reads as if the conjuror were still alive, then the incantation would both kill him and his demons. I don't think it will backfire and kill you... But if it does, Mieczysław knows where to find me."
You glanced over at Stiles, and exhaled from your nose, licking your lips and shaking your head. Stiles rubbed his right hand over his face, pushing his fingertips against his temple, and glanced back at his girlfriend. The concern over your safety in performing the Maqlû did not need to be verbalized. You were both feeling it.
"Thank you, Sylvie. I appreciate your insight." You said as you rested your chin against your hand, your elbow connected with your knee.
"De rien, Y/f/n Y/m/n. Fais attention." Sylvie spoke in her French-creole drawl.
"Je vais." You replied back in French.
"À bientôt." Sylvie said before she hung up.
Stiles clicked the button on the top of your phone, locking the screen. "I hate when she says that. It always sounds like a threat." You raised your eyebrows in agreement, and chewed on your bottom lip. "What were you guys saying at the end there? I only made out 'you're welcome'." He asked.
"She told me to 'be safe' and I said I would."  Stiles sighed, shook his head, and wiped his thumb against your black screen. "I can see the wheels turning in your head. What are you thinking?" You asked.
"When she brought Allison back, she said that the only reason she was doing it was because it meant Gerard was dying." You nodded, and Stiles continued, glancing over at you with his eyebrows furrowed. "So then why did she basically just offer to bring you back if something happens to you on Tuesday? Why are you important to her?"
The Pack and those who came to pitch in were ruminating around the school, some finishing the jobs that Scott had set out for them, and some helping you to set up for the rituals. Melissa and Deaton set up a first aid table at the back corner of the gym, while you and Allison set up the table for the ritual, by the same large double doors that led to the outside from the gym, that they had used when you performed the Šurpu only days before.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU TRAPPED THEM IN A CLASSROOM?" You and Allison looked over and saw Noah yelling at his son and Scott.
"It wasn't my idea! It was Cora and Hayden." Stiles argued back.
"We had nothing to do with it, sir." Mason said, pointing at himself and Lydia, as they all stood in between the doors to the gym and the hallway that connected it with the rest of the school.
"Some of them wouldn't come willingly, so we did what we had to to get all of them here." Cora said, nonchalantly, and uncaring of how much she pissed off the Sheriff.
"I'll go talk to them, Sheriff. I'll sort it out." Scott offered, trying to diffuse the situation. "You two, come with me." He began walking out of the gym and towards the classrooms, Cora and Hayden sulking behind their Alpha.
"You nervous?" Allison asked, as she directed her attention back to you and the task that the two of you were trying to complete before the outburst.
You sighed, and pulled a large metal bowl out of the tote bag on the floor next to the table. You placed it on the ground and poured the twenty clay and twenty cedar figurines that Cora had made of Sam Wirths, the kid who summoned the rabisu to Beacon Hills in the first place, into the bowl. You looked up at Allison, who had stopped setting up and was just staring at you, waiting for a reply.
You pulled a box of matches out of the bag and knocked your knuckles against the table a few times as you placed the matches down. "Yea. I'm nervous."
Allison sighed and watched as you went back to unloading the tote bags full of supplies on to the table. "I'm nervous too."
You paused, an oversized mason jar, full of the thick black blood that came from Gerard, pressed between your hands. You looked up at Allison who was staring back at you with her big brown doe eyes. You placed the glass jar down on the table and glanced around the room, wondering who was listening. "I didn't even think about that, which makes me the worst friend ever. I forgot this was your first time back doing this kind of stuff with the Pack."
Allison shook her head and flashed a restrained smiled, the dimples in her porcelain cheeks just barely making an appearance on her face. "I begged Scott and my Dad to let me come today because I knew that you would need help and I've already seen you and Stiles go through the whole ritual a few times... but now that I'm here.." The uncomfortable smile resurfaced on her face. "I'm just nervous... and I hate being nervous." Allison cleared her throat and grabbed the other mason jar full of black blood out of the now empty bag.
You grabbed the bag off of the floor and folded it, placing it on the bleachers. You sat down and Allison followed you. "I know Scott and your Dad would never let anything happen to you, but neither would I... I haven't wanted to say this, cause I don't know, it makes me sound petty. But I'm really sad that you and Lydia are moving in together up at Berkeley and I won't be living with you anymore. I'm going to miss having you around all of the time."
"It's not like we won't see each other. I'm sure we'll both be at their place all the time." Allison's real smile beamed across her face as she nodded at Stiles, standing in the middle of the room talking to Liam, who was soaked and unhappy from cleaning the pool. "And I know you and Lydia aren't the best of friends, but you're still totally required to come over every Sunday so we can watch Game of Thrones."
You bumped your shoulder against Allison's and laughed quietly. The two girls watched as Liam and Stiles approached.
"You two okay?" Stiles asked, and watched as you and Allison nodded, your arms hooked around one another’s. "Alright, well Liam said that Isaac is filling up the pool now. Are you two done here?"
"Um, it's just the glass bowl and the filtered water in the other bag for the end of the ceremony. Otherwise, yea, I think we laid out everything." Allison explained.
"Alright, do you want to come with me to set up in there then?" Stiles asked, and the girls nodded again. Allison followed Liam towards the indoor pool on the other side of the gym, and Stiles stopped you from following. "Are you two really okay?"
"Yea, just nervous, but it's fine." Stiles nodded and leaned in to kiss you softly on the lips, then turned to walk off after Allison and Liam. "Hey!" You grabbed Stiles' now somewhat grungy, blue and orange cast on his left wrist, and jerked him back towards you. "I wouldn't have been able to do any of this without you. I know that you have been feeling shitty about taking me away from New York and my internship and magic practice with my Dad this summer, but I learned so much magic that he never would have been able to teach me with you this month. If today is a success, it's because I have you and everyone else by my side. You all make me a better witch, and you, Stiles Stilinski, make me a braver person." You reached up, letting the stubble on his face and jaw graze your palm, and placed your hand against his cheek. You stared into his chocolate brown eyes and smiled. "I don't regret a single moment of this summer with you. I wouldn't change any of it." You kissed him softly.
"I needed to hear that so badly, you don't even know." Stiles whispered, a smile spreading across his lips that you could feel against your cheek. He enveloped you in a hug and leaned over to kiss you repeatedly on the cheek. "I love you so much, Y/N Y/L/N."
Everyone, with the exception of Deaton, Scott, Allison, Stiles and you, sat on the bleachers and watched as the sun went down at 8:33PM. It filled the gym with soft hues of pink and orange and then quickly faded to black. Scott walked over and flipped the fluorescent overhead lights on. The room was silent except for the buzzing coming from the lamps warming up above. You took a deep breath and stepped up to the table.
"O Shamash, these are the figurines of my sorcerer." You said aloud, lifting the bowl full of tiny clay and cedar Sam Wirths lookalikes as an offering to the Akkadian sun god. You placed the bowl back on the table and cracked your neck. Stiles could tell how stressed you were, but watched quietly as you continued.
"Pure oven, great daughter of Anu, inside whom the fire of the grave is flaring, inside whom the valiant fire-god has taken up residence, [whose] flames have reached the sky [...], burn," Allison handed you the box of matches on the table. You opened the box, took out a matchstick, struck it against the ignitor and watched as the flame burst into existence."Set alight, incinerate my witch!" You dropped the match in the metal bowl. You lit two more and dropped them in as well. You watched as the clay figurines baked from the heat and the wooden ones began to turn to charcoal.
You glanced at Stiles; the line that the two of you had been so concerned with was next. He leaned his trembling hands against the edge of the table, the smell of smoke filling his flared nostrils. He was terrified. He exhaled through his nose and looked up at Scott. "Alright, Scott, you guys are up."
"Derek, Peter, Isaac, Ethan, Malia....." Scott called out their names and watched them step down the bleachers and approach the table. You picked up the bowl from the bottom, the fire had gone out and it was time for the most dangerous part of the first sequence. You and the group walked towards the open doors leading outside and paused. "Malia, you're helping her crush them." Scott directed. Malia nodded once.
They all stepped out and you quickly dumped the contents of the bowl onto the pavement. You and Malia began frantically stomping on the charred figurines. Their fragile bodies disintegrating under your feet, while Scott, Derek, Peter, Isaac and Ethan all circled around you, waiting for a rabisu to show up to fight.
Stiles watched, holding his breath and praying that the next line didn’t kill you, as you pressed your tongue against your lips and finally continued. "May my warlock's and witch's life swiftly, quickly come to an end!" You said as you and Malia stomped out the last figurines.
"Nothing happened... the rabisu haven't even shown up." Stiles said quietly as he and Deaton stood a length away from the rest of the group inside, who had all gotten off the bleachers to watch by the doors.
Deaton glanced over at Stiles, then turned his attention back to you and Malia shining your flashlights on the ground to see if the two of you had sufficiently destroyed all of the small effigies. "The rabisu may know what she is doing and feel threatened. This kind of magic does not go unnoticed. They may realize that she cannot destroy them if they do not show up." Deaton said in his usual wise tone.
"Unless they're summoned." Stiles surmised what the druid was going to say next, then watched the group safely walk back inside. Deaton glanced over to Stiles and nodded softly.
It was 10:26PM, and they had hours before the next sequence was to begin. The Pack was milling about the school doing their own things to kill time until the moon reached its fullest around 2AM. Stiles was talking to the Sheriff and the other adults, and you were sitting on the waxed hardwood floors of the gym, your back leaning up against one of the legs of the table. You were staring out into the parking lot; the entire outside almost as bright as inside because of a clear sky and a very full moon. Scott and Isaac sat on either side of you.
You looked at them as they sat next to you and you laughed softly to yourself and smiled. "What's up, guys?"
"Scott wanted to check on you, I thought I'd tag along." Isaac told you nonchalantly.
You grinned. "Oh admit it. You were worried about me too, Lahey."
Isaac shrugged and smiled. The people that you had felt closest to besides Stiles were definitely Scott, Allison and Isaac. They were genuinely more than just your boyfriend's friends. They were your friends too. "Tonight is weird." Isaac stated.
"You feeling okay, Isaac?" Scott asked, craning his neck forward to see around you.
"A little juiced, you know? I was ready to fight some demons... again."
"I know what you mean." You echoed Isaac's sentiments. You lifted your hands on top of your lap, your palms facing up and showed the two werewolves how effortlessly two round silver sparks began to form into orbs, that if you let continue would turn into a particularly strong force field. "The Mesopotamians clearly knew how to pick a magical night." You joked, referring to Abu. You closed your hands and the silver glow disappeared.
"You know what we should do tomorrow night when all of this is over?" Scott asked his friends. Isaac nodded, wondering what Scott wanted to do with their first night of freedom that summer. "We should get Mexican food."
"Oh, I love Mexican." Isaac grinned, and you laughed.
It was close to 1:30AM and Scott ferried all of the living victims of the rabisu attacks into the pool. He had explained to all of the people that Cora and Hayden had rounded up and trapped in a classroom, including Coach Finstock, the truth about what had attacked them and what was happening that night. They all agreed to participate willingly, all wanting the rabisu gone from Beacon Hills.
You kept a close eye on Stiles, who was treading water near the Sheriff, and Scott. Isaac, Cora, Zachary, Ethan, Liam, Malia and Parrish were also in the pool. Twenty-seven living victims bobbed up and down in the water and you only watched Stiles as you walked around the pool, full of clean water, tossing your mixture of garlic, herbs, flowers, salt and wool in around them.
You began the incantation as the hour drew near. You got on your knees on the side of the pool, the cement conforming to your taut skin, and placed the palms of your hands against the water’s surface. You closed your eyes and began to speak. "O Enki, God of Creation and Water, of Magic and Mischief. I call on you from the star of Ea to wash away the flames and the stench. Creator of all but your kin, purify and protect those you call sons and daughters. May they be victims no more to your creations." You paused.
"Alright, take a deep breath and when she says 'peeled', go deep under the water and stay down for at least twenty seconds." Stiles yelled to everyone around him, treading water in the pool.
You continued, the water around your hands faintly glowing silver as you lost yourself in the words of the incantation. "The place, after Enki is clean, that place is bright. Let the tears fall from your face and cleanse them with fire and water, make them anew. May their spells be.." Allison walked over and handed you a lit match, and you continued. "… peeled away like garlic!" You said the words and dropped the single match into the water. The surface of the pool was engulfed in a massive blue flame that was gone as quickly as it came, simmered orange for a brief moment, and then disappeared altogether.
You watched as Stiles and the Pack members surfaced first, then glanced around and saw the rest of the heads of the survivors bob up from under the water. You leaned your chest against the tops of your thighs and leaned your head into your hands, the backs of which were resting against the wet cement. You let out a sigh of relief and watched as everyone began making their way out of the pool.
The moon began to disappear behind the trees and the earth began to glow a subtle dark blue, as you watched the last of the people who had been in the pool emerge from the locker rooms, clean and in fresh clothes. It was 4:45AM and the sun was rising at 5:39AM. You sighed and looked at the row of small knives sitting on the table next to you.
Liam, Corey and Mason were lining the goat skulls up just on the inside of the double doors. They were preparing to summon the rabisu and help you finish the last sequence of the Maqlû, finally destroying the ancient demons of the night.
Mason, Allison, Chris, Melissa, Noah, and Stiles stepped up to the table and grabbed knives. They each cut the palms of their left hands and smeared their mortal blood on the twenty goat skulls. Then Liam, Isaac, Ethan, Corey and Scott then began shoving the skulls out onto the pavement, summoning the rabisu to the high school. As they were doing this, you poured the clean, purified, filtered water into the glass bowl and walked up to the doorway.
It was 5:29: ten minutes until the sun rose in the sky, marking a new day in Beacon Hills. You stood next to your supernatural friends and waited. When the rabisu began to appear en masse, Parrish, Hayden, Cora, Zachary, Malia, Theo, Derek and Peter, all stepped up next to Scott, you, Liam, Isaac, Ethan and Corey. You all stepped out together and began fighting the rabisu, who were rabidly trying to get to you in the center of your friends.
You began your final incantation, trying to block out the shrieks from the creatures and the painful cries of your friends. "O Nuksu, the protective night light, I envoke you and your terrestrial fire to call your children back to you in the depths of the night sky, never to return. O Shamash, this is my ritual plea, savior and creator, bring salvation from the night to us with your warm glow."
"Y/N!" Stiles screamed from the inside. "No, Dad, let me go!"
You lurched forward and felt a sharp pain spread across your back. You ignored it. You splashed the clean water onto your face, and then knelt over the bowl, finding your moment of recognition. "You are my reflection ... You are mine, and I am yours. May nobody know you, may no evil approach you!"
You looked up as you heard the shrieking cries of twenty rabisu suddenly being bound to the earth by your magic. The Pack, beaten and wounded, closed ranks around the kneeling witch. The sun began to rise, and twenty ancient demons suddenly began to turn into embers that blew away in the morning breeze.
The last thing you remembered seeing was the beautiful mixture of the orange and yellow morning sunrise, juxtaposed with the burning and disappearing black aura that floated around the rabisu.

Mexico Planner: From Classics to Undiscovered Gems
Millennia-old civilisations, numerous artwork, buzzing cities, and tacos with ice-cold mescal—these 5 itineraries by the nation cowl all of them.
Cities Mexico Shrenik Avlani | POSTED ON: Could 17, 2019
The baroque type Cathedral of Santo Domingo is a 16th century historic landmark positioned within the Mexican metropolis of Oaxaca. Photograph by: Elijah Lovkoff/Shutterstock
The very first thing that you simply discover once you land in Mexico Metropolis is the way it stretches on and on in each route and the gray smog that sits over massive elements of it. So Delhi. However the Mexican capital has a lot to supply that you simply shortly shake off the déjà vu. Whereas Cancun and Cabo really feel like extensions of America—seaside cities tailored to cater to the greenback vacationer—Mexico Metropolis is the place to mingle with locals, discover meals distinctly totally different from the Tex-Mex fare served at Mexican eating places the world over, and uncover that distinctly spicy nationwide flavour in all the things from beer to ice cream.
  Hip ‘n’ Historic
Mexico Metropolis is a superb mixture of the brand new, the outdated and the traditional. Within the capital metropolis, the Zócalo (the generic title for the open sq. that each Mexican city has at its centre) is surrounded by Spanish-era cathedrals, presidential palaces, and the ruins of historical Aztec temples unearthed only a few a long time in the past. It is usually ringed by vogue shops, bars, espresso outlets, American quick meals chains and on the Metropolitan Cathedral, a reasonably new statue of Pope John Paul II made out of keys donated by Mexicans after he visited.
Well-known for housing Frida Kahlo’s residence and museum, Coyoacan, a historic neighbourhood in Mexico Metropolis, can also be widespread for its market. Photograph by: Kamira/ shutterstock
The Palacio de la Bella Artes, Mexico Metropolis Museum, Nationwide Palace and the extraordinarily ornate head publish workplace are additionally inside strolling distance of the Zócalo, as are the artisan’s market and a flea market. There are various road meals choices together with contemporary fruit, tacos and corn-based dishes, and you can find among the most laidback bars at Calle Regina, a pedestrian road about half a kilometre from the Zócalo. The historic centre will get very crowded, so steer clear. The stylish neighbourhoods of Condesa and La Roma are the place kids hang around. Each districts have loads of parks. All alongside Calle Amsterdam are eating places providing each native and worldwide fare, specialty mescal bars and stylish pubs and nightclubs. La Roma is a neighbourhood that’s glorious for graffiti recognizing.
In case you are within the temper for extra museums, go to Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim’s non-public Museo Soumaya, housed in futuristic buildings designed by native architect Fernando Romero. Named after Slim’s late spouse, this museum shows Slim’simpressive assortment of 66,000 artworks, from native Mexican artwork to works by the Masters. No journey to Mexico Metropolis is full and not using a go to to Frida Kahlo’s residence and museum at La Casa Azul, or the Blue Home, within the widespread Coyoacan space. Coyoacan can also be well-known for its market, which is a one-stop-shop for any vacationer on a meals or memento hunt. Earlier than you head out of Mexico Metropolis, ensure you go for a dwell efficiency of Lucha Libre, which is the extra enjoyable Mexican model of WWE. It’s fairly one thing to observe wrestlers flying across the rings, pulling off extraordinarily agile strikes.
  Day Tripping
Mexico Metropolis is ideally positioned for day journeys. Its expanse implies that a variety of fascinating locations are simply an hour away by Metro and public bus. One such possibility is the traditional ruins of Teotihuacan, dubbed ‘the pyramids’ by English-speaking vacationers. The pyramids are literally temples which might be a part of an architecturally vital historical Mesoamerican metropolis, considered the biggest of its time—virtually 2,000 years in the past—within the area. There are additionally fascinating household compounds and murals that make clear life in A.D. 1 on this a part of the world.
A soothing day journey from Mexico Metropolis is to Xochimilco, the place you get off a bus and get into a ship to go to floating markets and see the town from its canals. Photograph by: Steve Estvanik/ shutterstock
A extra enjoyable day journey from Mexico Metropolis is to Xochimilco, the place you get off a bus and get into a ship to go to floating markets and see the town from its canals. A visit to Xochimilco is incomplete and not using a go to to the Dolores Olmedo Museum, which is normally included in all package deal excursions. If historical past, museums and markets get boring, head to Nevado de Toluca, simply 80kilometres from the capital, the place you’ll be able to hike up an extinct volcano and likewise end up on the nation’s fourth highest peak. Climb the varied craters on the Nevado and construct up a inventory of Instagram footage as you uncover one stunning spot after one other. A number of the craters are so tourist-friendly that one can truly slide down them and create new hashtags for shut encounters with volcanoes.
  Oaxaca Wondrous
Oaxaca, in comparison with Mexico Metropolis, is way calmer and fewer congested. Nevertheless, rush hour visitors right here too is bumper-to-bumper. That mentioned, the centre of the town across the Zócalo is extra pedestrian pleasant, and discovering the town’s museums, outdated church buildings, and cathedrals (particularly the principle one, Our Woman of the Assumption) on foot is a sheer pleasure. As you stroll previous fairly, vibrant colonial homes, you’re more likely to discover many individuals stopping and posing for footage. Oaxaca is known for its museums, artwork and, extra just lately, delicacies. High cooks, together with these with Michelin stars, make common journeys to Oaxaca so as to add to their culinary expertise and menus. For good and clear meals choices in Oaxaca Metropolis, Mercado Benito Juarez is the place you need to be.
Festooned with vibrant colonial homes that compel individuals to cease and pose for footage, Oaxaca is a pedestrian pleasant metropolis that’s greatest found on foot. Photograph by: Kelli Hayden/ shutterstock
Located in a valley, it is usually best for day journeys to gorgeous places. At Monte Albán, simply 10 km from central Oaxaca, are the ruins of an historical metropolis of the Zapotec civilization. The ruins are extraordinarily effectively preserved and it takes little creativeness to image what a complicated civilization it was primarily based merely on their planning and structure. Monte Albán is definitely accessible by automobile, bus and shared cab. However the extra enjoyable approach is to run as much as the archaeological website, which includes operating by Oaxaca metropolis for five kilometres adopted by a relentless climb of one other 5 kilometres. Hydrate your self with the ice-cold horchata being bought by native distributors earlier than getting into the Zapotec-era metropolis. Of the opposite day journey choices, my private favorite is the hour-long drive to Mitla (extra historical ruins) and from there one other half-an-hour as much as Hierve el Agua. A hidden spot, Hierve el Agua is definitely fairly widespread, and rightfully so: not too many locations can boast a pure infinity pool on prime of a mountain. There are many meals and drinks choices, largely road distributors, at Hierve el Agua and after all of the trekking that you simply’ve executed to achieve it, the food and drinks style divine. For different fascinating hikes, hit up Hoofing it in Oaxaca (https://ift.tt/2SA7VXd), which organises treks from November by March when the climate is the very best.
  Taco Tucking
From tacos and quesadillas to soup and black beans; from rice to contemporary, pop-coloured tropical fruit, it is a world of tongue-tickling adventures. In Mexico Metropolis, absolutely loaded huaraches, gorditas and crunchy tostadas are sizzling favourites.

Huaraches are extra-large tortillas piled with heaps of cheese, greens, and a meat of your alternative cooked collectively. These are served on massive platters with sides of contemporary tomatoes and cucumber, jalapeños and a alternative of salsas. Gorditas are tortilla full of meat, greens and cheese; in essence, stuffed parathas. A extra handy model of tacos, they don’t spill over once you chunk into them. Probably the greatest locations in Mexico Metropolis to chomp on gorditas and huaraches is the hippy Coyoacan market. Relating to tacos, there’s a enormous selection to select from round each nook. Attempt tacos with black corn tortillas wherever you discover them—they’re deliciously totally different. Probably the most enjoyable component in all of those dishes is the big selection of salsas — from the delicate jalapeño to the extraordinarily sizzling Habanero— that yow will discover at every taco cart. Most distributors make their very own salsa, therefore it tastes totally different all over the place. Chapter Twenty-Five - Chapter Twenty-Six - Chapter Twenty-Seven
Tumblr media
It was 5pm and the sun wouldn’t be setting for a few hours, as Scott, Isaac, Cora, Liam, Hayden, Mason, Corey, Ethan and Malia sat in Stiles’ living room, watching Stiles stare at the large glass murder board with pictures and names and red tape plastered all over it. He gnawed on the end of the white china pencil that he held in between his thumb and pointer finger. He had a mess of gruesome crime scene photos splayed out by his feet on the floor, and he barely glanced up as the front door opened and three girls walked through, until he saw Allison.
“Oh shit…” He mumbled, while turning to catch Scott’s reaction.
“Allison?!” Scott leapt to his feet and stumbled over Isaac and Cora’s long legs to reach the girls who had just come into the house. “What… what are you doing here?”
Lydia walked over and took Scott’s seat, mildly grinning over the chaos that was about to ensue. Stiles wrapped his arm around his girlfriend’s waist, and pressed his lips against her forehead. “Hey babe..” He whispered out, still staring at Scott and Allison. You placed your notebooks and textbooks on the coffee table and sat next to Malia on the couch.
“This is not what it looks like…” Scott tried to position himself between Allison and Stiles’ creation.
“It looks like one of Stiles’ famous murder boards… almost like you guys are trying to figure out what’s been attacking all these people in Beacon Hills lately” Allison said, staring at Scott with her arms folded across her chest. Isaac laughed and Cora elbowed him in the ribs.
“Uh.. how… wait.” Scott struggled.
“Okay, we really don’t have time for you to figure this out, buddy. Allison has known for weeks because she overheard you and Argent talking, so can we all sit down and focus on this instead?” Stiles interrupted, as Scott followed Allison to the couch to sit next to you and Malia, his mouth agape. “Perfect timing!” Stiles announced as Sheriff Stilinski and Deputy Parrish walked through the door. “What do you got for me, Daddy?” Stiles rubbed his hands together and grinned, excited to hear the latest updates from the head of the county police.
“There was only one body found this morning and it doesn’t fit the same M.O.” The Sheriff informed his son, as he handed Stiles a manilla folder full of pictures and reports, and then hung his jacket up on a hook by the front door.
“How does it not fit the M.O.?” Stiles questioned, disappointed.
Parrish, who had made his way to sit on the arm of the sofa that Lydia rested in, piped up. “We found this guy inside of his house, and he’d been there for weeks. The rest of the victims were attacked outside.”
“So he has nothing to do with our attacker?” Scott asked, leaning forward, resting his elbows on his knees.
“Well, not exactly, the wounds were pretty similar with one exception.” Parrish said.
“That he was found inside..” Isaac tried to finish Parrish’s sentence.
“No…. he had his heart ripped out of his chest.” Stiles interrupted, reading the report that Parrish had written for the case file.
“Brutal.” Isaac said, rubbing his hand over his chest, and leaning back in his seat.
Stiles taped the picture and the report up to the bottom corner of the board and drew a question mark next to it in white pencil. “We don’t know if he has anything to do with it, but I’m not gonna rule it out.” He announced to the group, as he turned around to face them. Sheriff Stilinski had made his way back into the living room, holding a Chinese take out box and a fork, as he stuffed cold, leftover chow mein into his mouth. “So what do we know so far?” Stiles asked the group.
“The ages and genders and occupations are all random, this guy doesn’t have a preference in his victims.” The Sheriff said, speaking with his mouth full.
“They’re all happening at night.” Malia reminded the group.
“Some people were slashed with, like, claws.” Liam piped up.
Mason cut Liam off. “Yea, but some people had like detached limbs and others were bitten. That one guy had all three done to him.” He looked up at Stiles, from the floor, where the rest of the younger members of the Pack were sitting.
“What if it’s the Grim Reaper? I mean, that’s what Coach said…” Isaac asked, his eyes widening at Stiles and then the rest of the group.
Stiles narrowed his eyes at the handsome, blonde wolf. “Coach is the only one who said that, and it’s Coach… Don’t you think that people would have described it carrying a scythe… or not described anything at all, because if it was the Grim Reaper, everyone who got attacked would have died.” Stiles said, exasperated by Isaac.
“I guess…” Isaac pursed his lips and sunk into the couch next to Cora.
“Have you figured anything out from the books, Y/N?” Allison asked, causing Scott to fidget uncomfortably.
You shook your head, touching your notebook on the table in front of you. “The descriptions haven’t been specific enough. It could be dozens of things in either my Mesopotamia books or my Western Civ. books. I just don’t know. I feel like we’re still missing like one piece of identifying evidence to figure out what they are.” You explained to the group, defeat in your tone.
“Stiles, what is it?” Scott said, leaning his head over the table, watching his best friend pull crime scene photos off of the murder board and out of the file his dad had just given him and begin spreading them on the floor.
“There’s a pattern.” Stiles announced, getting off his knee and standing up to look at the pictures as a whole. The group rushed around him. “I’ve been thinking about it ever since Coach told us he got attacked as he was leaving the high school. Greenberg’s statement says that he literally found Coach in a pool of his own blood outside of the main entrance to the school.”
“So what’s the pattern?” Malia asked, annoyed at Stiles’ lack of automatic clarity.
“My dad got attacked outside of that old abandoned house, on their front stoop. At first, I thought it was just people getting attacked outside of their homes, like a crime of opportunity, but with my dad and then Coach…. it’s doorways… dark doorways. What if these creatures can’t get inside of a house or don’t like the light or something, so they get you when you’re coming or going?” Stiles proposed.
“I think you did find the pattern.” Sheriff Stilinski patted his son on the shoulder and smiled.
“Does that help you at all?” Allison asked, turning back to Y/N who was not standing with everyone else, but instead was flipping through your books on the couch.
“I don’t know… maybe.. it sounds familiar-ish… I’m just gonna have to really dig into this stuff tonight.” You said as you rubbed your forehead.
“Sheriff, if the pattern is at night, we should be going out on extra patrols.” Parrish mentioned.
“Guns don’t work on these things, Parrish, I know, I tried.” The Sheriff reminded the young Deputy of how he unloaded his entire clip into the creature that attacked him.
“You need to enforce a mandatory curfew, Dad. I mean, people shouldn’t even be walking their dogs at night anymore. You get inside once the sun goes down, and you stay inside until it comes back up.” Stiles said firmly to his father.
“I think you’re right, kid. We need to get back to the station and talk to the Mayor.” Sheriff Stilinski motioned to Parrish, who kissed Lydia and then followed the Sheriff out the door to the squad car.
“You all should head home. We’ll pick this back up tomorrow afternoon.” Stiles said to everyone, as he rearranged the pictures from the floor onto the murder board.
Everyone began to disperse out the front door. “Lydia, I’ll drop you off at home.” Malia offered, as she walked out the front door.
“Stiles…” Lydia stopped before she followed Malia to her car. “It’s not a premonition, just a feeling.. be careful tonight.” She squeezed Stiles’ bicep and walked out the door.
“Always with the ominous feelings, Lyds... never anything that actually makes me feel good though.” Stiles muttered under his breath, after Lydia closed the door behind her.
“Allison, we really need to talk about all of this.” Scott said, quietly in the corner, by the door, as he slipped his arms through his jean jacket.
“Okay, so just follow Y/N and I home and we’ll talk at my house.” Allison said, firmly, as she approached the front door with her boyfriend. “Y/N, are you coming?”
“Yea, yea… I’ll be right out.” You shut your books and slipped your nude, satin, floral-embroidered bomber jacket over your shoulders. You gathered your books up into your arms and ran over to Stiles. “I’ll see you later?” Stiles nodded, and kissed you on the lips, your books against your chest creating a space between the two of you that he didn’t love. “Don’t come over too late. I don’t want you getting caught in the dark.” You reminded him, kissing him lightly again. You heard Scott’s bike engine start, and smiled sweetly at Stiles. “Love you.”
“Love you!” Stiles shouted after you. He grabbed some chow mein off the counter in the kitchen and went back to work on his murder board.
The sun was setting in ten minutes. Stiles had gotten caught up in his work, and knew that he would be getting to Allison’s by the time that the sun had set. He thought it would be fine since the entrance to the hotel was brightly lit and had doormen out every night who, so far, had been unscathed. He glanced at his phone. 8:19PM, it read. A text message from Y/N was waiting to be opened. “I forgot my Mesopotamia notebook on the coffee table, can you make sure to bring it? Also, Mr. Argent said to bring a change of clothes, since he doesn’t want you and Scott leaving to go home after it’s dark. A bientot. xo.” Stiles smirked at his iPhone. They had began using “a bientot” as a replacement for “see you soon” ever since Sylvie, the coven witch, said it to Y/N. For some reason it made the two of them burst into a fit of giggles every time. He shoved his phone back into his pocket and ran upstairs to grab some clothes and his toothbrush and his backpack. The sun was beginning to set.
Stiles zipped his backpack up and grabbed his keys off his desk. He thumbed the small, tan lamassu keychain dangling from his key ring, and smiled. He remembered the morning in the Oriental Institute in Chicago with Y/N fondly, and the smile that spread across your face when he revealed the present he got for the both of them at the gift shop. He locked the front door and opened the door to his Jeep, throwing his backpack in on the passenger seat. His phone vibrated in his pocket. “Babe, it’s getting dark, if you haven’t left already, just stay home tonight.”, the text from Y/N read. “No worries, I’m on my way.” Stiles typed back, shoving the phone back into his pocket.
“Oh shit, her notebook.” Stiles said aloud, remembering that he forgot to grab it from the coffee table, and running back up to his front door.
Stiles heard a loud bang, and looked up to see fireworks going off a few blocks over. Stiles fumbled with his keys and shook his head.
“Didn’t even realize it was the Fourth of July… ugh, kids, should just get back inside.” He muttered to himself. He looked around and realized the sun had set. No one was going to follow the curfew on the Fourth of July. Tonight would be a bloodbath. He started getting nervous, his hands shook as he looked for his house key. He heard a quiet shriek and looked up, a dark cloaked figure stood looming over him.
