In honor of Niall's first show tonight.
These are pictures I took of him in 2018 on the Flicker World Tour. This was in Hartford, Connecticut on Sept. 14th.

My Thoughts On I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman
I don't think I can put into words how much I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman destroyed me. I wasn't in the best mindspace anyway, but it was almost like Alice took a look at my fangirl brain, plucked a few bits out, and put it into what made Angel, Angel.
I've been a part of the One Direction fandom for years, since X Factor pretty much, so I very much related to when Angel talked about being there since the beginning, seeing 'our boys' grow and move onto to bigger and better things.
Alice really described fandom life so much better than I ever could hope to, because "Being a fan has made me better friends online than ever encountered in real life. It has entered me into a community where people are joining love and passion and hope and join escape. Being a fan is giving me a reason to wake up something to always look forward to something to dream about while I'm trying to fall asleep." I think we as people in fandom, tend to fall in love with an artist as an idea, a concept, which then makes it hard to separate from reality, since really, we know the media perception of a celebrity, not the 3am walking around the kitchen them, as much as we think we do.
A sentence that is going to stick with me for a long, long time is Alice describing a person in fandom's experience as "In an otherwise medicare existence, we choose to feel passion." Because that's what fandom is about really, isn't it? It's the passion we feel listening to the music that our favourite artists put out, staying up until 2, 3am to see them perform on the other side of the world, and sometimes, if we're lucky enough, screaming lyrics and waving flags with so much damn passion at concerts.
And then Juliet asking "How are you going to go through your life loving nothing as much as you have a boy band?" it hits deep even now, but if you had asked me that 2014? 2015? Maybe even 2016? I wouldn't have known how to answer that.
Piero describing it as "But beneath that, and if you took all that away, you fundamentally do not value yourselves. All your love is given away. You leave nothing for yourselves."? That hit home. Because I, at my worst moments in my life, always took the fandom as an escape. I was on Tumblr, I was reading fanfics, I was ignoring real life for this world I had built in my head where The Boys were my Safe Space.
Without sounding too cheesy, One Direction have changed my life, being apart of the One Direction fandom has given me so many incredible things. I might not have gone to any of their concerts but I have made friends and had so many good experiences through that but I have also grown as a person because I found them. Having now gone to Niall's concert, a Max and Harvey concert and am going to Louis's Faith in the Future tour and Harry's Love on Tour in the coming months, I can now firmly say that that passion that we feel so strongly for an artist or a musician comes out in full force at concerts and that isn't something that we should hide away or be ashamed of. It unites us, no matter who we are or where we come from.
And I feel that now, maybe 5 years into this break, maybe I don't have to close this chapter, but I can press pause on my journey with them. I can go onto experience other things using what I have found because of them.
Because in the wise words of Piero, "There comes a point where you have to help yourself. Believe in yourself."

The Show is only 10 songs long and Heartbreak Weather is only 14 songs…… arguably Niall could play both albums in their entirety on tour 👀

Haunted by a fantasy world where "adventurer" is handled in the same way as "assassin" in John Wick. An ifykyk secondary economy running on gold coins where everyone knows each other but no one acknowledges the elephant in the room because we have manners about our weird-ass line of deadly desperate dangerous work.
Rolling into town, looking immaculate. Checking into the Inn. Not an inn, or the coaching house, or the traveler's hostel. The Inn. The one that takes my ridiculous oversized coin and says that my room is ready, and will I need to visit the Smith today? Perhaps a meeting with the Vintner? Shall I send up the Gourmand?
"Good afternoon, Master Whicke," the Smith says, putting aside the barrel scraper he's been working on to flip a switch beside the forge. Racks of tenpenny nails and trowels and hammers fold back to reveal the glittering points and edges of a score of swords and axes and spearpoints lit with the flicker of finely-tuned enchantments. "Shall we tour what's new?"
"What sort of occasion are we hosting, Master Whicke?" The Vintner asks, pocketing the coin with a sigh. "A funeral," you say.
"Ah, well perhaps something light to start, then," she says selecting a straight-walled flask that glitters with contained starlight, proof against the touch of the undead. " And something for remembrance," she plucks a small crock of something evil-smelling and phosphorescent. "And then something to really bring down the house." She gingerly selects a double ampoule of energetic looking jellies.
The Gourmand carefully runs his knife through the salted flank of a cockatrice with a pursing of the lips. "So many neglect trail rations, Master Whicke, and it is their shame. Paired with goldenwheat pancakes and carrion honey, a mouthful of cockatrice--properly seasoned of course--will keep the mummy rot at bay, even post-exposure. I have been given to indicate by the Management that your current escapade may make such information useful to you. I will of course wrap your purchases exceedingly carefully. Rot will be your constant companion in the Black Pyramid."
There's something here.
