This little paper craft, Flextangle, looks so elaborate and I was fascinated of how you can flip and turn it, check it out:

The website offers a template for free, which I of course downloaded, and after I watched their video tutorial I realised how easy it actually was to assemble. A very fun little toy, I’ve tried once with the already decorated template. But will print the empty one, so I can decorate it myself and try again 😋

I had to track it down again because I lost the link, but you can find the instructions here. It takes a bit of trial and error, and I strongly recommend having a ruler handy for making the pattern.

So I’ve been pondering what to do for next month’s grab and go craft for kids. I did a general winter theme this month with the snowman and the flextangle. I might leave the flextangle out for next month too. But what new thing was I going to do?

I want to hold off purchasing craft kits until later, for once I start up the next session for the big program I have been asked to head with another staff. That’ll take a lot of my time, so having ready-crafts would be easier.

So what to do for January?

I thought something with winter or arctic animals would be cool - a little info sheet and whatnot, the pieces to cut out (or have pre cut) and you put them together to make the animal. Fun, simple.

So that’s what I have done today. A couple of the ideas I had just... didn’t turn out well. But these two went okay.

But the photos I looked at for Narwhals showed they have paler undersides. So I tried that too.

I think I like it better without but my coworker today likes it better with. Not sure which I’ll do.... (And my info sheet will have to mention that, to make it female, just leave off the horn! Mine in the above pic are jousting as they do.)

But adding the underbelly made me think of my life-long favorite animal in the whole wide world. I told a friend that all of it was making me want to make them, too - two whales projects was fine right?! - and her response was “I MEAN” so. I did it - possibly just for me but still lol.

And because I love orcas so much I of course was nit picky about details and I’m still not fully happy but also they’re cute and I love them.

Crafting forecast (aka things I want to make in the next few months) - Jack Skellington, but larger this time - a pumpkin headed creature  - a llama and/or alpaca - more beanies to donate* - more halloween themed things - a crocodile  - I FORGOT MTH. AGAIN. Something Marvel for the auction. Oh my gosh. - a Mew plushie for my sister - some scarves for my sisters, and maybe some slippers? - reusable shopping bags - finish off some more quilts that I’ve finished the quilt tops for  - FINALLY make a tutorial and pattern for the flextangle plushie - and I FINALLY want to share some more patterns. Next on the list is the elephant, then the octopus. Both will be on my patreon, but I also want to share another pattern here because I passed a follower milestone like...two hundred followers ago? Maybe the eel. Maybe the jack o’lantern? Maybe the pumpkin headed creature once I make it If you have any suggestions of specific Halloween related things you’d like to see me make, please let me know! I love halloween but there are a lot of different things to make and I’m having difficulty narrowing down the list *I’ve been making beanies, I just didn’t think y’all would want to see identical pictures of them all? I’ll post an update with all of them once I finish the current one
