I choose to believe for my own sake that this is a 'staying up late at a sleepover and crying laughing because your friend won't stop doing a Carl Wheezer impression so his mom shows up and tells you guys to shut the fuck up so she can sleep' kind of situation.

Because realistically, if Fleki and Lycion were getting it on, I just can't believe that Pattadol would be the one to go tell them to quit it. I know Pattadol is a goody two-shoes and really cares about following the rules and staying on task... But really, you wanna tell me that flustererd and uptight old PatriciaDoll has the GALL to get out of bed, walk down the hall to the room where her werewolf coworker is fucking the shit out of her other coworker, open that door, and go "Alright, alright, separate yourselves. Go back to your individual beds, it's too late at night for this." I would halfway believe you if you told me she opens the door with her eyes closed and just yells at them, slams the door and runs off...

...ah, well, in the first place, that's probably not what's happening. Because if it were, the person brave enough to get them to stop would probably be Flamela kicking her wall and swearing up a storm in elven slurs long forgotten by mankind specifically for people who fuck too loud.

New Canary Lore (Preview image from Complete Adventure Guide)

This is really cool info!!!!!!!! And confirms a bunch of stuff we didn't know for sure.

PARTIAL TRANSLATION: The Canary Squad is a group that adventurers on the island fear. We have published materials that give a glimpse of this. Canary Corps Organization Chart The Canary Squad is made up of prisoners and the guards who manage them. This document reveals information about the members of Team 2, led by Deputy Commander Flamela.

Hard to get much from this unfortunately, but seems like there's a group of commanders above the Canaries but below the Queen that call the shots (makes sense), and also a side group for Canaries that aren't good at going into Dungeons (also makes sense).

So now we know Helki was pardoned/finished his sentence and works for Milsiril as some kind of servant (light labor, probably a house servant). We also know that a Canary prisoner can theoretically be pardoned and become a guard, like what happened with Flamela's assistant. That's probably why she's always wearing a hood, doesn't want people to see her ear notches and get confused about the chain of command. (You guys have GOT to find a better way to indicate rank than just ear notches 😂 Give the officers different colored capes or something...) Flamela's under Mithrun and a "deputy chief" or "deputy commander" I'm sure it's vague in the Japanese and that's why there's wildly different translations. Now it makes sense why Mithrun was able to tell her to "shut up" without getting in trouble, and why all the Canaries had to go along with Mithrun's promise at the end of the manga, he's the highest ranking guy there. Flamela IS related to the queen, but distantly. Also they both have relatives that seem light-skinned, which makes sense since the elves clearly have a lot of skin color diversity throughout the population. And now we also know the genders of the various background canaries! I'm so happy there's more men and they aren't just all girls 😂 I had a gut feeling that long hair freckles, bottom left corner, was a boy. Still no names for them though 😂 but that's ok, Larry, Moe and Curly my beloved.

You know, I could see a real advantage in the knowledge rin and potentially kabru have of flamela. Because I actually wish I had put this in my World Map Notes but Heimeya is in her mid 400s and elves only live to about 500 - the Northern Central Continent is coming up on a regime change and with Flamela's twin dead, she's the most likely heir. And she no longer has pressing military duties to use to keep away from the role, with the canaries no longer nearly as urgent (and thus prestigious). Rin knows Flamela from when she was taken by her unit of canaries, though I have no idea how much that knowledge amounts to. I'd imagine Kabru is definitely aware of her circumstances at least- that's prime elven noble gossip and he grew up at least adjacent to both those circles and the canaries, who she is an important member of. They might not be quite young enough to be around still when the regime change happens, but theyll certainly want to prime their successor for what to expect. Personally I'd be nervous. - I like Flamela, she's cool, but she's an elven noble who displays the usual prejudices for her position, treated rin like seized livestock, and has attained most accolades and spent most of her life in military service. It's most logical to want to secure her throne by reestablishing their global influence and reclaiming lost territory. If they are lucky then her close proximity to the near end of the world that laios averted will earn some caution/respect for melini, but it will depend whether that extends to his successor- that's why I think the most effective choice would be to pretend to have more control over the monster effect, and maintain the fiction that it's inherited and so the throne can't be seized from laios' heirs. Either that or attach a choice of successors with some pageantry to pretend to be passing the effects on, but that's going to be less convincing to people who are used to direct blood inheritance of the mandate to rule, and especially to elves who know more about how magic works.

I dub thee flekille Fourth entry of my “Dunmeshi rarepairs I will birth with my own hands if I have to” series. This one goes really well alongside laicion

Hear me out… Probably one of my most crackpair simply because they never really interact in canon, but it snowballed from me thinking about laicion so many months ago and I genuinely enjoy them a lot on their own now too.

Overview of the appeal: Silly prep girl that tries to not be silly x silly troublemaker that is silly on purpose. Could have been cellmates in another life 😍 /j It’s chaos x order, it’s propriety x will tease you specifically to make you uncomfortable, it’s Fleki sticking around Marcille when she gets the opportunity to because she thinks she’s entertaining, it’s her dragging Marcille to a shitty club that would give anyone epileptic a seizure and Marcille being so out of her depth but finding the thrill intriguing… It’s Fleki’s YOLO attitude rubbing on Marcille a bit, encouraging her to stress less and live more, it’s Marcille looking out for Fleki and teaching her to value her health, her friends and stability in life more. It’s banter, where Fleki is bold and amused and Marcille is panicked and horrified, which as they grow to know each other becomes Fleki teasing and Marcille responds with exasperated but fond comebacks. They have big yuri manga with a bad boy girl vibes, they deserve 50k slow burn rivals to lovers fics exploring the deepest emotional lows imaginable, they deserve cute funny bantery ficlets where they try out rollerskating together and Fleki skates face first into a pole and Marcille heals her up. ALSO it’s the mage who always talks about the importance of hair and braids hers neatly x the mage who keeps her hair long but at MOST brushes it every 3 days and looks feral

We see that Fleki looooves casual physical contact which I think suits Marcille well! Since she’s also big on casual & affectionate physical touches. Oversimplifying it, I kinda see Fleki as a more chaotic and less grumpy Izutsumi, which I think pairs really well with Marcille.

Ok, so the meme + below is my romantic flekille & laicion, qpr laimar & flekion vision… Maybe romantic laimar and flekion too idfc. Fleki’s bestie Lycion and Lycion’s boyfriend Laios and Laios’ girlfriend Marcille and Marcille’s girlfriend Fleki… A bond forged by the shared experience of having a feral partner. In my timeline they start hanging out because laicion starts dating and it goes from there, like they keep showing up at the other’s place to come pick their guy up or when laicion meet up in town at an agreed location both come with their bestie so then as Laios and Lycion head off the girlies just stand there awkwardly for a sec together… And it becomes habit enough that they start talking. One time one arrives early at the other’s place to pick up their dog guy so while she waits on Laios and Lycion being done hanging out they just chat and hit it off around the kitchen table. Eventually maybe they all live together, the girls have a qpr situationship with their respective dog boy too and they all snuggle up together on the couch and life is good… I have a couple of other flekille au ideas though.

The one college au I would EAT UP FR. Anything modern for them is so fun for some reason. They could even have a like… y’know ‘that yuri manga where the prep girl thinks the emo girl’s a boy and she’s interested’ thing (googling it The guy she was interested in wasn’t a guy at all is the name), they feel like they’d have that energy… Except that instead of Fleki being dressed all cool she’s dressed in Minions merch or something. Puke colored tie dye. Marcille cringes but also smth about the cringefail allure has her enraptured (jk it’s mostly Fleki being determinedly clingy) Like come on imagine Fleki with the alpaca trampoline hand tattoo, Marcille would be so endeared. They have the vibes ever, I wanna see them hang out and with Lycion and Laios too

I'm making a dungeon meshi oc who's an elf nobility but I have a hard time giving them a name. I look at the dunmeshi elf names but I can't tell if they mean something. are they based on flowers? words in another language? or jumbled made up words to form a name? the only name that's normal-ish is Marcille

Marcille probably has a more tallmen aligned name yeah, for the others my guess is that they're made-up names that sound elvish

The way the Canaries are structured is interesting when you think about the fact they basically consist of people deemed both useful and expendable to elf society. Most of them are prisoners on forbidden magic charges for any reason you can think of. The wardens are nobles' kids that more often than not are their least favorites (Mithrun being an exception thanks to his brother being physically unfit to take the job). They're formally called the Dungeon Investigation Unit, but widely referred to as Canaries on account of the fact they're basically a suicide squad and the apt description of Canaries in a coal mine when their boats' bows are marked with birds being right there. Like. There's a lot to be said about elf society given the fact that the people sent to be on the forefront of dangerous situations on behalf of the queen are all people considered to be disposable in one way or another.
