I'm getting a dog within the next few months!! I'm looking for a golden retriever puppy!! I realized that I have been putting too much emotional labor on my partner. I need a lot of reassurance and most importantly I need someone in the room with my pretty much all the time. So we came to the conclusion (when I was overnight dogsitting) that I need a companion that's equally as needy (or cuddly as I like to put it <3) as I am!

also first hike of the year where we've met strangers, and both girls did very well with their trail manners. i always ask them to sit on the side - uphill or on a rock, ideally, because it gives them a bit more mental barrier - while i stand between so people won't have to pass them directly.

sparty has always been good with this because she values food rewards over socializing with people. troj is different and while she won't approach people unless spoken to, if people look at her and talk at the same time, she sees it as an invitation. i haven't been hard on it because she's very calm and the people we've met have seen it as a friendly gesture (which it is) but its happened a few times now and its definitely one of those Things That Make Sense To Troj.

anyway an old man with trekking poles commented on our "good cooperation" which was nice

Went on a trail ride with another girl I haven’t ridden with in a while l and said “hey let’s try this trail!” and then I nearly got us stuck in a fucking swamp

I literally said “haha, come on Bertie (my horse) it’s not like it’s quicksand” and then boom! it kind of WAS though and my pony is fat but she is small, so she got stuck up to her knees a few times but oh my god, poor Buster is a normal sized thick ol halter hog quarter horse boy and he almost went down. he sunk in on the left side up to his stifle. that’s like his hip man that’s like. Almost the butt. that was high-as-a-horse’s-hips mud. That was horse-thigh-gap-height mud. Oh my god.

This obviously scared the horse so then he scrambled out as best he could and he took his mom into a bank full of many sharp little trees and she almost came off and then had to get down and back him back into the mud to get him out and around the trees again

Was my horse as affected? No. Was I hit so hard in the face by tree branches that I bit my lip? No, but her horse reenacted the neverending fucking story for a minute there and she got pistol whipped by branches and I felt so bad 😭 in fairness, she never objected to exploring. not in fairness, it was absolutely my dumbass idea

This is why no one wants to ride with us, even when I try to have a chill walk-only lazy little trail ride I still manage to get us into some kind of chaos, because my riding style can only be described as Quaintly Unhinged™️

#no animals were harmed in the making of this shitshow only one cut on a human and the dog #who has more than nine lives- was fine and I have no idea how he crossed the mud he could’ve flown I was too busy trying to not fall #I’m sorry Julie I’m sorry Buster. thankfully he is a sturdy fucker and both he and Bertie calmed down quickly once we got back on the main #trail and headed home. but the worst part is? #I had fun lmao I do enjoy this kind of insane shit #one time I went riding with my horse’s girlfriend and her owner and homies just turned her mare into the Rio grande and started crossing #and my mare followed because she’s obsessed with hers and I had a proud ‘oh thank god other people are also crazy’ moment #meanwhile ellis #Bertie the pony #this is why it’s really rare to have good riding buddies that 100% enjoy the same stuff as you. first you have to get past all the issues #between disciplines and training styles etc. and be totally willing to mind your own business #and then you have to have similar ideas of what’s fun #my idea of fun is pounding a beer and galloping my little nag up a dirt road pretending I’m in Rohan #this as you can imagine is an acquired taste for most people lmaoooo

I was listening to a podcast the other day and they were talking about how goldendoodles are actually the worst family pet if you don't specifically need a hypoallergenic super smart dog because they're half poodle, which are Like That because they're Too Smart For Anyone's Good.

And like I knew goldendoodles were part poodle but I hadn't thought through the implications, and I was immediately struck with the realization, oh my god that's why the neighbors' Murder Dog is the way he is.

Are you named after anyone?

No idea. My mother never bothered to tell me.

When was the last time you cried?

I'm not sure. I haven't shed a tear in a long while. Though if I had to guess, I'd say the time I was told about Tess' disappearence probably being tied to her potential death was the last time I truly cried.

Do you have kids?

Not at the moment. Though Minerva keeps telling me how she has visions of me holding two curly haired children who look suspiciously like me and...an acquaintance. I'm still trying to wrap my head around that.

Do you use sarcasm?

Oh I live for sarcasm. To be fair, I think it's a Sage thing. *Snicker* Yeah, I'd say it comes with the job.

What’s the first thing you notice about people?

Their eyes. Not in the superficial "you've pretty eyes" manner, but in the "I now know your every secret" kinda way. You can learn so much about a person just by looking them in the eyes. You can find out if they're excited, scared, maybe intimidated by your presence. Some are subtle and others not so much. It's quite interesting, honestly. And telling of a person. Which is why I often use sunglasses when going out... Yes, even at nightime...I do the eye reading thing, not them.

What’s your eye colour?

Green, unfortunately. Most people think it's a lovely color, but to me it only serves as a reminder that I actually have a father who never bothered to make an appearance in my life. I'd much rather have my mother's brown even if our relationship is rocky.

Scary movies or happy endings?

I find happy endings to be cliché and far too boring these days. Bring in the horror. I'm all for it. I just won't guarantee it'll do a good job of scaring me.

Any special talents?

I can light things on fire and put them out with a simple flick of my wrist, but I suppose this so called "talent" is exclusive to spellcasters alone. If we're talking regular human talents then I'd probably say...acting. My fellow sages can attest to that.

Where were you born?

It's a blur, honestly. I know my mother was originally from Glimmerbrook and that I was raised in Windenburg up until I decided to run away at the age of 16, but I'm unsure if I was actually born there. I always had the idea that we simply moved shortly after my birth as a means to chase after my bastard father. But again, this is not something that I know for certain.

What are your hobbies?

There are a ton of things I enjoy doing, none of which I consider to be a hobby aside from reading, maybe. I don't have that much free time away from the Magic Realm, anyways. Simeon has been trying to get me into gardening though, but I don't think it's for me. After all, it's not like I can grow plants out of thin air like he can. He's the expert in Practical Magic, not me...and I wouldn't be caught dead digging through dirt and soil with my own bare hands.

Have you any pets?

I do. A 2 year old Dobermann. His name is Asmodeus. 

What sports do you play/ have played?

I'm honestly not that much of a sports person anymore, but I used to do gymnastics as a kid. And it's fortunate that I did, because all that trained flexibility still comes in handy sometimes. *L. Faba snorts in the distance* L. take your mind out of the gutter, that's not what I meant.

How tall are you?

Around 5'7.

Favourite subject in school?

My memories of school are brief and muddled, but I remember I used to love biology. And physics. The irony of it all baffles me to this day.

Dream job?

I've never given it much thought, especially after dropping out before I could even finish high school. Years later, the..."oportunity" to become a Sage made itself known and I took it. It wasn't like I had much of a choice in the matter, with me being the one apprentice Tess left before she went missing. I was obviously still in training when that happened, but the Realm desperately needed a new Sage of Untamed Magic and so I had to rise up to the occasion and take the position for myself. At first, I was resentful and felt that becoming a sage was the equivalent of becoming a prisoner of the Realm. But I soon realized this wasn't the case and eventually grew to love what I currently do. There is so much more to being a Sage than just holding the Magic Realm in place. Today I can confidently say that this is, in fact, my dream job.

seeing a dog breed most people do not have the capacity to handle and properly care for marketed as an easy adopt

#look. sometimes shelters are just trying to make space and get rid of dogs who have been there for awhile to take in new ones #i highly recommend researching dog breeds or if you're a first time/relatively new dog owner making a list of what you are looking for #SOMETIMES big emphasis on sometimes- a dog just happens to be super chill for its breed. example is i had an australian cattle dog that #was the most chill dog ever instead of very energetic. he was honestly pretty cat like he was not what u should base your understanding of #heelers off. they are 99% of the time highly energetic need lots of room outside and a job or they'll become bored and destruction #great farm dogs with a little training they are very smart (sometimes stubborn bc of that lol) but not great apartment dogs bc your kid #wanted a 'bluey dog' #using that as an example but there are many breeds this applies to. as well as small dogs

still reeling over seeing a comment on a Facebook post the other day saying that places that allow children should have to allow dogs because kids can be just as dirty as dogs. I honestly do not even know how to explain to self centered weirdos that their dog just straight up doesn't deserve the same rights as an actual human being. you can't leave your kids in crate in your house when you go out and far fewer people are allergic to and terrified of children than dogs. also it doesn't take a whole lot of thinking to figure out that complaining about children being in public, especially because they're "dirty", is just an inherently classist argument because poor people also need to be able to go outside and can't afford nannies to watch their kids when they do this, whereas people generally get dogs with the knowledge that they will be leaving them home alone sometimes. please use common sense.

man i take such issue with people saying things like "dog breeds for first-time owners!" and "dogs who i don't recommend for first-time owners!" because. here's the thing. dogs are not easy animals, not really. they are a creature that will live anywhere between 10 and 20 years (or more, sometimes) and even a golden retriever can have health and behavioral problems that a "first time owner" and someone who's had many dogs will both struggle with.

like. if someone is set on idk. a malinois. or an anatolian shepherd. or any dog that is going to be more difficult. then they don't want a golden retriever or a chihuahua or whatever. you can say "hey this dog breed might not be right for your specific lifestyle" (like ykno someone with cats wanting to adopt an (adult) dog with a high prey drive. or someone who works all day wanting a high energy dog. or someone who travels a lot wanting a "velcro dog" or a breed prone to anxiety) but if someone wants a specific dog breed and is prepared for any natural behavior or care requirements that come with it. then they can get that breed. like. people should be able to get ykno. a dog breed theyre genuinely into and dedicated too instead of a "first-time owner" breed that they probably don't like

#not to say that some dog breeds don't fit most peoples lifestyle #like i love sighthounds but im not going to be getting one since. i have and want various small animals #and i wouldn't recommend an adult husky or any other dog with a strong prey drive to someone with cats #(start with a puppy. if you have cats and want a husky too) #but saying ''first time owner breeds'' is. kinda a lie imo. just be honest abt the lifestyle the average dog of that breed needs
