Jackal & Boone — “Problem Solvers”

1. Who can out-drink the other?

They’re the same height, but Boone is definitely more of a unit than Jackal. He’ll always have her beat even if she does hold her liquor pretty well.

2. Who says “I love you” more?

For a long time, the main reason Boone doesn’t tell Jackal how he feels is because of the lingering belief that saying “I love you” out loud is just asking for the universe to screw them over. It takes a while for him to grow out of that mindset — even when he does, Jackal says it more often. After keeping her mouth shut for so long, the novelty of being able to say it whenever she wants never really wears off. She knows how he feels long before they’re able to talk about it (and I’m not giving away who cracks first), but it’s appreciated when he says it back.

3. Who has trouble sleeping alone?

Both of them really struggle to sleep alone. Jackal is prone to paranoia and sleeps fitfully without anyone around to protect her. Meanwhile, Boone has a hard enough time falling and staying asleep even when Jackal is near due to his anxiety, insomnia, and PTSD — holding/being held by her is a much-needed reminder that they’re both safe, and a great comfort when he wakes up from a nightmare.

4. Who swears more?

Jackal, if only because she’s more vocal in general. Boone’s no saint either.

5. Who does more of the housework?

They split it pretty evenly. It’s easy to give Jackal a tool and direct her energy into doing something productive, but it’s just as easy for her to get distracted or forget what she was supposed to be doing. She’s the type to let things pile up before dealing with them all at once. Boone’s able to reliably stick to a routine.

6. Who forgets their anniversary?

They don’t really have an anniversary until they get married, about five years after their first meeting. Until then it’s somewhat up in the air as to what it would be — whether it’s when they confessed, when they first slept together, when they told their friends, etc. I can’t really see either of them forgetting, though Jackal can be somewhat absent-minded at times — Boone would just find it funny and wait to see how long it took her to remember. He’d probably hear her yell “WAIT, TODAY’S OUR ANNIVERSARY” from the other room as soon as she did.

7. Who steals the duvet in their sleep?

Boone, and this was something Jackal learned pretty quickly the first time they shared a bed. She gets revenge by sticking her cold hands up his shirt when he wakes up. In the meantime, she’ll just end up human backpack-ing.

8. Who keeps the other awake at night with their snoring?

It’s a good thing Jackal usually falls asleep first, because Boone snores often, especially if he lays on his back. She hates doing anything to disturb him while he’s sleeping and has gotten pretty good at tuning it out, but if it’s really keeping her awake, she’ll try to turn his head so he stops.

9. Who finds stray animals and begs the other to let them keep them?

Jackal, 100%. This only gets worse once she has kids, because they do the exact same thing and Boone has an even harder time saying no to them. They end up with like four dogs, two cats, and a gecko.

10. Who usually makes dinner?

Boone. I’ve mentioned Jackal’s questionable cooking skills before — basically, if you want to avoid a fire or a mess, it’s best to leave it to someone else. She usually helps out by chopping ingredients (as she enjoys any excuse to use a knife), doing dishes, or just keeping him company.

11. Who plays their music out loud?

Jackal has her Pip-Boy (or any available radio) tuned to Radio New Vegas almost all the time, especially if she’s traveling or working on something — it helps her focus. Even when there isn’t any music playing, she’ll provide her own by humming, tapping her foot, or singing under her breath. The familiar sound of her voice/movement helps Boone get to sleep when it’s her turn to keep watch.

12. Who hogs the bathroom?

Definitely Jackal, especially if she’s dressing up or trying to look nice. That hair doesn’t style itself.

13. Who gives the most compliments?

It’s the resident smooth-talker, Jackal. She’s not afraid to point out when she thinks Boone looks particularly handsome, and it always puts a smile on his face. Boone is more likely to silently admire, but the rarity of his compliments makes them carry more weight.

14. Who usually starts/causes arguments between them?

Boone usually causes arguments, while Jackal’s temper is what escalates them. His tendency to try to shut her out is incredibly frustrating to her at times. Before they finally get into a relationship (and both go to therapy lmao), they have some pretty bad fights, often ending with one or the other storming away before they cool off and apologize — luckily, this means they don’t have nearly as many fights once they’re together.

After they get married, their main argument tends to be in regards to Jackal being reckless and Boone being overprotective because he’s terrified of something happening to her — especially once she’s pregnant. He gets angry, but it’s all a result of the fear of losing his spouse and child again. Though Jackal doesn’t like feeling controlled or stifled, she tries to be more careful once she realizes why he’s upset.

15. Who isn’t afraid to embarrass the other in public?

Of course it’s Jackal. She definitely tries to use cliche pick-up lines on Boone or whispers stuff in his ear to make him flustered.

16. Who gives the other cringe-worthy pet names?

Jackal, and this starts well before they’re in a relationship as a result of Boone’s refusal to give her his first name. Most of them are just words that rhyme with his name — Boone Moon (or Blue Boone), Kaboone, Boonedocks, etc. As they grow closer, Jackal starts referring to him using her limited Spanish, either with terms of endearment/compliments (cariño, guapo), or good-natured insults (tonto, idiota). These confuse Boone for a while, and it doesn’t help that she usually lies about their meaning while Raul refuses to explain because he thinks it’s funny. Once they’re together, she usually refers to him as cariño or Boonie — calling him Craig is reserved for when she’s pissed at him.

17. Who fusses over the other when they get sick?

Boone is one of the few people who can get Jackal to actually stay in bed when she’s sick — otherwise, she won’t take it seriously and will end up getting worse. He’s more of a worrier just in general, so he does his best to take care of her when she needs it.

18. Who finds it impossible to stay angry at the other for long?

Boone has a hard time staying mad at Jackal. She’s too damn charming, especially if she’s actively trying to get on his good side again. I think I’ve referenced this video before, but Julien dancing with Jenna to distract her and her inability to stay angry (“I can’t stand you when you’re like, so charming and sweet” / “Wait, I was mad a second ago!”) always reminds me of Jackal and Boone.

19. Who clings to the other for comfort when they’re sad or scared?

If one of them is sad, scared, or panicked, the first thing they do is turn to the other. Jackal’s more likely to seek that comfort out, but she can tell when Boone needs it too — whether it’s shame or guilt that stops him, he appreciates it when she reaches out first.

20. Who is more ‘physically passionate’? (hugs, kisses, or maybe more…)

Both of them are very physically affectionate, as they share physical touch as a main love language. It’s pretty common to see them casually touching in some way or another when they’re together — whether it’s holding hands, putting an arm around the other, or simply sitting close enough for their thighs to touch. Jackal is usually the one to initiate more intimate gestures, but Boone returns them tenfold. He has a much easier time expressing how he feels when he doesn’t have to use words to do it — it’s the best way for him to show his love.

1. FIRST NAME:           Stephanie, but call me Bishy <3

2. STRANGE FACT ABOUT YOURSELF:            If you were to walk into my apartment, you’d find medieval weaponry hanging up on the walls all over the place. I also was always compared to Iron Man, only because my entire left arm is almost all metal.

3. TOP THREE PHYSICAL THINGS YOU FIND ATTRACTIVE ON A PERSON:             Their eyes are the first thing I look at. When I saw my wife first, I looked at her eyes and just. Yes. The next observation I really look at is the smile. Each smile holds part of their personality. Then I tend to notice their height. Luckily for me, my wifey is taller than me. <3 

4. A FOOD YOU COULD EAT FOREVER AND NOT GET BORED OF:               Ooooof. If I had to choose just ONE dish, I would have to choose Lemon Pepper fish. While I love sushi, and Alfredo, the lemon pepper fish is absolutely amazing and I finally learned how to make it myself. So I won’t starve if my wife leaves for a night or two. xD

5. A FOOD YOU HATE:               Spinach. Just. Yuck.

6. GUILTY PLEASURE:              Okay so I have a few guilty pleasures. First and foremost is making characters with character creators in games. I just love making them. I also have a huge guilty pleasure for shipping. I’m actually going to copy a statement that someone else made because they describe it incredibly well. 

I love healthy ships and unhealthy ships (but like, don’t glorify them. Recognize they are unhealthy and should not be idealized for RL) I just love love, and I love the butterflies and coyness and excited uncertain that leads up to the very first time a ship admits their feelings most of all.

             But yeah. More guilty pleasures. I also love editing screenshots of characters. I love playing around with the colors and shadows. 

7. WHAT DO YOU SLEEP IN:           Pajama pants. It’s rare for me to sleep with a top on, only because my wife is a massive heater and I’ll overheat if I wear too much.

8. SERIOUS RELATIONSHIPS OR FLINGS:              Hah, well I’m married soooo. In October it’ll be 2 years, but we’ve been together for almost 5 years. Longest relationship I’ve ever had! <3 We have our difficulties, yes, but we work through it and keep on trucking.

9. IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN THE PAST AND CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WOULD YOU AND WHAT WOULD IT BE:               If I could go back, I’d tell my boss to fuck off and stay in Texas with my dad for an additional 3 weeks. That was really the last time I got to spend time with my dad, seeing as the next time I saw him, he passed away. 

10. ARE YOU AN AFFECTIONATE PERSON:             I didn’t grow up around affection. So it took a long time for me to open up and actually showcase affection to people willingly. I’m finally getting better at it though! I want to say yes, I am an affectionate person, but I still struggle at times on whether it’s appropriate or not.

11. A MOVIE YOU COULD WATCH OVER AND OVER AGAIN:             This will forever be “Sweeney Todd”. I absolutely adore that movie. Or any of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” just because of the aesthetic.

12. FAVORITE BOOK:            Oh gosh. This is extremely hard to choose, only because I love reading. Call of Cthulhu, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones; anything from Stephen King; I read anything and everything, so choosing one as a favorite is nearly impossible.

13. YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO KEEP ANY ANIMAL AS A PET, WHAT DO YOU CHOOSE:               A skunk <3

14. TOP FIVE FICTIONAL SHIPS [IF YOU ARE AN RP BLOG, YOU CAN USE YOUR OWN SHIPS AS WELL]:            Ooooof. I have too many to share. So like, it’s a very toxic ship, but Tsumi ( @tivtastic) and Syat’a are a huge toxic ship that I cannot wait to dive into. Another good ship that I’m kinda adoring is the friendship between Shoto ( @chooseyourmuse) with Astrid. Their closeness just brings me massive feels, and I adore them. Okay, so that’s only two. Let me think. I also am really interested to see the development between Denki ( @persona-de-interes) with Astrid.

           Oh! Another super big ship of mine is Caspian with Roselyn ( @sky-gryphon) on discord. Their raw connection just. Mmph. I love it. I also am really in love with the connection between Colette and Zegnes ( @sky-gryphon) on discord as well. While she’s this big bad predator, he’s so soft towards her and I just. He makes her feel things, which results in me feeling wonderful things for them. Now another- OH MY GOSH HOW COULD I FORGET.  

           How could I ever forget Arron ( @-tiviani-)??? He with ANYONE of my kids. FUCKING ANYONE. Give me that GORY SHIP. So fricken toxic, but YESSSS. 

             EDIT: HOW COULD I FORGET THIS ADORABLE SHIP. OMG SOMEONE HIT ME FOR FORGETTING. Jupiter with Niel ( @softvorenoms). LEGIT GUYS. This ship is SO SUPER ADORABLE. Every time I think of canon relationships for Jupy, I immediately think of Niel. When I finally sit down to write the actual books for Jupiter and her siblings, Niel will either show up in it somewhere or be mentioned. Because these two. <3 <3 <3

16. FAVORITE SCENT:                I’m more towards vanilla, but I also am really liking cinnamon (even if I can’t say the damn word)

17. CELEBRITY CRUSH:              Ooooof! Hmm. Okay, so I don’t really keep tabs on celebrity life, so give me a moment to really think. The actress that plays as Scarlet Witch. Yep, she’s real pretty. I also really adore Felicia Day. She’s just perfection. Then there’s Tom Hiddleston. He’s gorgeous. 

18. IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD YOU GO:          Mm... Probably Italy ( seeing as I’m Italian and have yet to see where my family came from ) or Scotland ( because who doesn’t love their accent?? )

19. INTROVERT OR EXTROVERT:              Technically, I’m classified as an “Extroverted Introvert”, but I just like to call myself an Introvert and leave it at that.

20. DO YOU SCARE EASILY:             Hah! I don’t think I scare easily, but I jump super easily.

22. DO YOU PLAY ANY VIDEO GAMES:               ...Do I play video games?? OOOOOF. Yes, lmao! I bounce between PS4 and PC. From Mortal Kombat, Dragon Age series, FFXIV, and soooo many others; I play pretty much anything. 

23. DREAM JOB:                 I’m actually doing my dream job! I work at a museum; I’m a tour guide. I adore learning new things, and retelling history to others. 

24. WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A MILLION DOLLARS:               I would first and foremost pay off any dept that my wife has. Then I’d put half of my cash to the side for saving. The rest would be put into paying off my wife’s vehicle (since mine is already paid off) and helping us settle down in an actual house somewhere we want to live for good. Currently we’re living in an apartment, and it’s comfortable yes, but it’s not forever. 

25. FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU HATE:            A fictional character I hate? Hmm. Oh, oh! I know so many others really adore this character and find him “oh so attractive”, but I cannot stand Zenos yae Galvus from ffxiv. Just no. I can’t. At all.

26. FANDOM THAT YOU WERE ONCE A PART OF BUT AREN’T ANY LONGER:                I used to be big into Inuyasha. In fact, that was the first fandom I actually got into! But I’m not into it any more, only because finding tons of people that still want to write that fandom is almost impossible. My Comments: From angst to well-written battles to a wonderful Merlin and Gwaine friendship this fic has a lot of things that I love  It’s got Druids, it’s got BAMF Merlin, it’s got Gwaine just being GREAT, what more could you want??  And at 38 chapters, you have quite a bit to get through before you have to wait for updates, and even then it’s nearing the end. so I expect that you won’t be left disappointed.

My Comments: I have a thing for Druid!Merlin apparently, and this fic falls into that.  Most recent chapter left off on a cliffhanger so I’m :OOO atm but it’s VERY GOOD and I recommend you all read this one as well :D

My Comments: Probably the fluffiest thing on this list.  A crossover with Three Musketeers in which the author literally swaps Santiago Cabrera’s characters.  That’s it, that’s the story.  But it’s not just crack- there’s angst, there’s emotions, and overall what I feel is a realistic reaction to what would happen if this, well, happened lol.  I especially adore the scenes in which Lancelot is learning French- THE AUTHOR ACTUALLY ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THERE’S A LANGUAGE BARRIER- IT’S GREAT.

Knowledge does not mean Understanding by Selene467

Summary: In a time when Merlin's magic is outed and accepted -something he never thought possible months ago- Arthur is shown that despite knowing how strong Merlin is, he doesn't fully understand -comprehend- just how powerful he truly is. A dangerous conflict in which Merlin all but sacrifices himself to save everyone else, shows Arthur that there is far more to Merlin than he thought possible. Gaius wasn't kidding when he told Arthur that Merlin was the strongest sorcerer ever to have lived.

My Comments: I greatly enjoy the non-linear story telling of this one- with the present interspersed with flashbacks to the magic reveal, it allows the reader to see what happened without just an info dump lol (also I’m considering trying that style myself now).   Just I recommend this one too lol

My Comments: With Arthur angsting over the fact that he thinks he’s literally killed Merlin gd and Merlin being, well, not treated well in an enemy lord’s dungeon, this fic is hurt/comfort gold.  At least, when the comfort part reaches lol.  But with intrigue, and emotions running high, this fic is a good one and I sincerely hope it updates soon lmao

My Comments: How the aftermath of the Arthur nearly killing Uther scene SHOULD HAVE GONE.  But if this exchange doesn’t convince you, idk what will: Every word Arthur had spoken had Merlin off-balance and reeling, but his next question threatened to knock him flat. “Will you help me?” Merlin gaped at Arthur long enough that the earnest nobility of his expression faltered. “I realize it’s a lot to ask—it is essentially treason, after all—” “I have magic,” Merlin blurted, and then slapped both his hands over his mouth. Arthur stared at him. Merlin stared back. “Well,” Arthur said at last, “I suppose treason isn’t a problem for you, then.”

My Comments: I love this fic SO MUCH.  Merlin and Arthur’s friendship is done SO BEAUTIFULLY in this- feels exactly like the show’s.  I know the author plans to continue and I sincerely hope she manages to conquer this writer’s block that has had her down for months ;-;.  But, in the meantime, there’s over 70k worth of material to read, and I highly recommend you do :D

My Comments: I also love fics that assign roles to the rest of the knights, and I would love to see where this one plans to go with it

Summary:  For Merlin, having the world fall apart around him was nothing new, but having someone there to help him pick up the pieces afterwards unfortunately was. Until it happened twice, with two very special people who appeared in his life when he most needed saving. Modern AU, friendship fic. Sort of Christmas story.

My Comments: A short, bittersweet one that left me sobbing and me wanting more.  Tender hurt/comfort with a side of Christmas.  And with only one chapter left, I hope the author won’t leave us hanging for much longer

1. How did you come up with your username and what does it mean?

I’m snowdrops on ao3 - I was having a bleach phase and had an obsession with the thirteenth division of the gotei 13 when i created my ao3 account. the snowdrop is the thirteenth division’s insignia! it signifies hope.

2. Which fanfic of yours has the most feedback? (bookmarks/subscriptions/hits/kudos).

bookmarks:  red strings (dgm, lavilena + yullen, reincarnation au, 9.2k words) 

subscriptions: wandering spirits online (bleach x sao x log horizon, vr mmorpg au, 4k words, abandoned multichap) || the fic with the next highest number of subscriptions is red strings, which is a oneshot. in fact, i only write oneshots, with the exception of a couple of story collections, so why i have fic subscriptions at all is a true mystery.

kudos: herding cats (bnha, todobaku, neighbours au, 1.5k words)

hits: red strings (dgm, lavilena + yullen, reincarnation au, 9.2k words)

i’d like to point out here that this is probably not an accurate representation of the quality of my fics because red strings has been up on ao3 since 2014, and some of my newer fics have much higher pick-up rates relative to time elapsed

I have regular commenters depending on the fic I’m writing - for haikyuu it’s @aritzen @ennotanafuta @chamomilea @puffandhuff @sapphyrelily; for bnha it’s the tdbk server. but favourite commenters? anyone who comments and leaves encouragement for me to keep going, especially when I’m struggling with writing and myself, is a favourite for me! I also know who my regular readers are, and I’m always grateful for them even if they don’t leave comments!

friends with benefits with feelings au, probably? though I don’t really care if people judge me for what I’m writing, so I guess it’s my own personal hesitance that’s stopping me from actually writing it. 

10. Is there anything you would like to be better at? Writing certain scenes or genres, replying to comments, updating better, etc.

one thing that I learnt from creative writing class is that I suck at writing visual descriptions, so I wanna work on that. I also want to be better at replying comments!!!

i’m destined for rarepair hell

nope, and I’m not sure I’d be able to. I’m incredibly picky and individualistic when I’m writing.

Gunny told me that lots of writers were posting fic on ao3 too, besides ffn, so I looked it up and started hanging around

obviously not

what, no

19. Was there an author who inspired or encouraged you to write?

hmm there are fic writers who made me want to write like them - themorninglark, asofthaven, carafin, among others - and also book authors - tolkien, cassandra clare, neil gaiman.  

20. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author?

keep writing. a little every day builds up to a lot in a year.

21. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go?

it... depends on the story. I’ve plotted every single one of my Timeless AU fics thus far, as well as my longer fics, but for shorter fics I tend to let the story go where it wants to 

22. Have you ever gotten a bad comment on a story? If so, what did you do?

mmm I got flamed on one of my crossover fics when I was starting out on ffn, but it was only the one time. I was rly young back then so I shall not reveal what I did lmao

23. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, smut, etc..)

smut, and physical scenes in general. writing them makes me uncomfortable

kacchako zine and supposedly hqss, except i haven’t started on hqss

Then i got so deep into shameless… I DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT. what a fucking waste of time that was tbh. I met a huge amount of amazing people, but that show let me down more than anything ever has sooo…. yeah and then i joined the skam fandom and it was my saving grace.
