Rly want to NG+ TZA cuz I feel like my job combinations weren't the best. I wound up not using Foebreaker at all (which is a shame, I think it would've been nice to use all the jobs in my first run) and Basch (Uhlan/RBM) wound up being useless. Worse, actually, because he didn't have good enough HP to be a worthy tank, but his magic output also sucked so he wasn't a great support character either. I feel like you'd need the exact right combination of equipment to make that build work. Sigh

I finally did it - I created the catalogue of (most of) the possible Sefikura children combinations that I have played around with in the past.
It's under the cut (and I'm sure I missed some but guess I can always just keep adding to the slide deck)

' some wounds do not close; i have many such. ' hi you get gabranth today.
'The Favourite' starters . accepting
An imperial judge was already someone difficult to physically harm given their metal plating; a magistrate such as Gabranth should be nearly impossible to hit, unless the very man wished for such. And yet, once his deadly armor was removed during one of their clandestine encounters, the Bhujerban gasped audibly at the angry, red gash that was visible on Gabranth's back. It was fresh and it should be stinging enough to make a lesser individual flinch, but not him.
Not Gabranth.
"You didn't tell me you were injured," Melissa exclaimed, and the noises coming from the adjourning room were the cues that the Landissian needed to determine his companion had started a search for some potion or lotion for the marred flesh. The dancer's voice was mixed - concern and reproach mingled in an unique way, the Bhujerban's disposition growing agitated as she settled behind him with the necessary instruments.
"The Empire has no shortage of enemies," the man merely shrugged, an action that got both of Melissa's hands over his shoulders almost immediately, forcing him to be still. Although the woman had said nothing, Gabranth used to joke that she spoke through the mere jingle of her jewelry. It was as if her bracelets and other trinkets reacted to his carelessness instead, beads and chains clinking loudly while she worked on his back and puffed hot air over his flesh.
"This was no enemy - that armor of yours is a monstrosity to get off even with your aid. I cannot think of anyone skilled enough to cut you like this unless you allowed them the privilege," the Bhujerban countered, even if both of them were aware that, right then, Melissa could have done it - the dancer had her digits coated in a soothing lotion, but they could very well carry a blade. The judge bared his unguarded frame to her - and in doing so, offered more than just tangible skin and bodily warmth.
"This was friendly fire, was it not? During a training session?" the Bhujerban ventured a guess - after all, only another magistrate could best a colleague, and they often trained with and without their weapons. The fact that it was on his back suggested a bit of foul play - the act of a coward, perhaps when Gabranth was already retreating. It fueled Melissa with a strange type of fury: quiet and cold, even if her hands had been working diligently on the area.
"You worry too much about me - you should know some wounds do not close; I have many such," Gabranth said in that unique conversation where neither looked the other in the eyes given their angle, but Melissa knew what he meant. Shaking her head and finally done with everything, the dancer finally left the bed if only to carry the curatives elsewhere and clean her hands of whatever lingered of the lotion. Some of the Bhujerban's own jewelry was discarded then - and she made considerably less noise when returning to bed, climbing onto the furniture from the other side and kneeling in front of the judge at long last.
"I know. I cherish them," she said, raising honeyed eyes to look into his usually tormented blue irises; "Gabranth has no such wounds, only Noah. As long as they exist, so does he. And I'm here to make sure he never disappears," the Bhujerban explained, voice as light as a feather but with words carrying the weight of all Ivalice on them. It was a promise; a futile one, the judge argued, but they were equally stubborn and fond of lost battles.
Melissa dragged herself forward them, picking both of Gabranth's hands and placing them over her waist - there was not much left to remove off her body if the Archadian opinion was anything to go by, but that was a task for the man hiding under the heavy plating discarded a moment earlier. The digits over her hips pressured the smaller body in response, earning the man a smile - instinct or not, that was precisely the reaction the dancer was seeking.
"Now, careful with your back, Noah. Let me soften the fall for you," the girl murmured, pulling him for a kiss and wordlessly begging for him to cover the Bhujerban instead, "Lay your burdens on me for now."

Renaissance Avenger || open to mutuals
{ This is kindof a oneshot little fun idea I had, but I’ll leave it open for anyone who might like to turn it into a thread! }
Basch knew he could never go back to being what he was. Ivalice and his position as Knight Captain of the Order of the Knights of Dalmasca were lost to him now. It was strange how much he had hated war all his life and yet it had been all he’d known, and now that he wasn’t spending most of his time on the front lines or in a palace in a state of catlike readiness... he missed it. Gods help him, he missed the adrenaline. He missed the heaviness of his armor. He missed wielding a two-handed sword. Jeans and t-shirts were not what he wanted to wear, and fighting didn’t hold the same significance for him anymore. Perhaps he didn’t miss the horror, the death, or the sorrow of war, but being a soldier was all he’d known, and now what that meant had completely changed.
As an Avenger, armor was now a thin layer of strange fabric that inexplicably stopped weapons and explosives. Weapons were guns so refined Basch didn’t recognize any of them or other types of blades with which he was unfamiliar. Even something as simple as a bow and arrows was different in this time. The bow was made of metal, not wood, and the arrows performed all sorts of functions in addition to simply being weapons. It was amazing, but... it wasn’t home. It wasn’t who he was. Even so, he tried to embrace the times.
He was learning to use computers now. The internet was truly a marvel of modern technology. It was through its use that Basch discovered the SCA, the Society for Creative Anachronism, which was quite active in the state of New York where he now lived. And through them, he discovered Renaissance Faires. At first, the very idea of playing at war was both odd and slightly infuriating to Basch. War was not a game, and knights were not romantic heroes. They were bloodied, violent, troubled soldiers, just like all others. And yet, after some nudging by his teammates, Basch attended one of these Renaissance Festivals... and he was pleasantly surprised by what he saw.
Yes, there were so many things wrong about the armor, the weapons, the language used, the food... everything. People of this time really had no idea what life in the past had truly been like. However... he saw that it had become something else to modern people. It was something to be admired, it was entertaining and educational, and most of all, it seemed to make a lot of young children smile. It was as if someone had taken a vicious guard dog and removed all its teeth. The trappings of war and battle were there, but it was harmless, almost innocent. Like a flower growing out of a pool of blood. It had been stripped of its horror and instead, in its place, was something wonderful.
Apparently people like knights and sorcerers were thought of affectionately now, despite them being all manner of folks in the past. Not all knights were honorable, and not all sorcerers were majestic. Yet here, in this safe place where families stood by and watched reenactments of things that didn’t really happen, content to have their own romanticized views of the people, places, and times they were supposedly witnessing, it was all innocent fun. Children laughed, people applauded, food and drinks were served, and at the end of the day, no lives were lost. Basch... was enraptured by it. To take something so horrible and find a way to bring joy to people instead was incredible to him.
Having attended one of these Festivals with some of his teammates, word quickly got out that Basch was once a real honest-to-goodness knight. After a brief explanation of how that could actually be, the employees of the Faire began asking him all sorts of questions. Basch was happy to explain about the problems with the armor and weapons, the anachronisms of their speech, the differences in how food was prepared. This seemed to spark something in them. They had a real, living source in front of them. A window into the past. Basch began helping them improve in some areas, teaching them how to do certain things, showing them how he fought.
He was even taken to an armorer who made actual armor - not stage armor that was thin and meant only for show, but as close to real armor as one could manage - and got him all outfitted. They were all amazed at how he didn’t seem to get tired wearing it, at least not quickly. Basch was so used to the extra weight that it actually felt strange to fight without it. He felt at home in the armor, and the way he was smiling was definitely an indication of that. By the end of the day, Basch had been offered a job. Of course he had his responsibilities as an Avenger, but working at a Faire wouldn’t take up that much of his time. He even offered to do it for free. It wasn’t like the Avengers didn’t have the ability to travel to him and quickly pick him up if for some reason he had to leave to take care of an unexpected threat.
And that’s how Basch became Sir Basch at the local Renn Faire. He was a crowd favorite, mostly because his fighting always looked so realistic and his speech was always so believable. He moved like a knight, spoke like a knight, looked like a knight... and that was enough to make little kids stare at him in awe. Never let it be said that Basch didn’t love children. If life had been kinder to him - and if he’d been kinder to himself - he would have loved have settled down with a wife and had children of his own. But that life wasn’t for men like him, he knew. He could, however, make other people’s children smile, and when he’d just gotten finished defeating the main villain of the plotline of the Faire in a mock battle, Basch realized that people were clapping and cheering for him. He’d been told he could acknowledge the crowd and... break the fourth wall, as it were, so he turned and smiled.
Tumblr media
“Thank you for your accolades, good people,” he said somewhat shyly, not used to being praised for fighting. This wasn’t really fighting, though. It was more like theater. But it allowed him to indulging in the feeling of who he used to be, and there was definitely something therapeutic about that.
The plot was on pause for now and the actors dispersed, still in character, of course, should they be approached by patrons of the Faire, but free to do whatever they wanted until the next installment of the story. Basch went to get some water. It got hot even in northern New York in the dead of Summer, but Basch was used to the intense heat of the desert country of Dalmasca, so it didn’t bother him. Just as with the weight of the armor he lugged around, the other Faire employees were also surprised and a little jealous at how easily Basch dealt with the heat. Even so, he went to get some water. Hydration was important.
“I think they enjoyed it,” he said, looking around and still trying to gauge the reaction of the audience. This was all so new to him, but he was getting the hang of it. It was doing something very good for his heart, he knew. The crushing sadness and loneliness of having lost everything he knew melted away when he was at the Faire.

Ppl always talk about how Penelo, Vaan, and Fran get very little content compared to the other three, but tbh Basch hasn't had anything to do for like. Hours. I think he had a couple lines in Jahara and that was it (I'm at the Stilshrine of Miriam).
Fran's content is slight but like, I think it actually has a leg up on the others for being complete; the Eruyt arc is short, but it is an entire arc, with interesting supporting characters, key character moments, and ties to the overarching plot that don't get in the way of the arc (the nethicite, the brief appearance of Venat). Balthier got stuff that didn't get in the way of Fran's stuff, and was the perfect supporting character for her. Vaan even had some good moments where he feels like the guy he was in the first five hours again. Like it's actually extremely solid as far as the story arcs in this game go, and a rare moment where I felt like every writer was on the same page, in this case about what kind of character Fran is.
I don't feel that way about the rest of the cast (barring Balthier who is so obviously the team favorite). Vaan is WILDLY inconsistent as a protagonist; he got over his hatred of Basch like an hour after he met the guy, and it's clear the dev team had conflicting ideas about what to do with him after that, so he slingshots between "hothead kid who is earnest but impulsive" and "the wise commoner kid who reflects sagely on his own shortcomings in earshot of the impulsive vengeance-questing princess so she can one day learn those lessons too." Like I'm not saying he can't be both--ideally he should be both!--but the writing absolutely does not straddle that line at all, but faceplants in one direction depending on what they want from the scene. It's such a shame because I actually really like Vaan and think there are a number of interesting ideas in his concept, but I don't think those ideas stick the landing. The most damning thing about him is he doesn't feel like the protagonist of the game. He doesn't even feel like a deuteragonist in an ensemble cast, he feels like the kid sidekick (like Laphicet). I just don't think that's any way to treat your leading man, and it leads to a lot of writing confusion, and fan confusion, about what the character arcs even are.
And I also don't feel like Ashe herself escaped the inconsistent writing! I think in some ways her plot is very clear, but in most of the scenes she's in, she's hardly interfacing with the party like... at all. I hate to say it, but she often has more dynamic relationships with the guests, most strikingly Vossler and Larsa, than she does with party members who aren't Basch (and later Balthier). She does talk to Vaan, like they're clearly trying to do the "commoner foil to the princess" thing with them, but... again, I feel like those Vaan scenes are written inconsistently, so it just kinda comes off as Vaan spouting off unearned platitudes while Ashe is like "oh I see! [continues to pursue vengeance for the next fifty hours until the last Vaan Speech finally sticks]"
Idk. I feel like a much more interesting arc for Vaan & Ashe is like... okay, so Ashe is the Occuria's candidate, right? But it's implied they're also grooming Vaan as an alternate if Ashe doesn't work out. While Ashe sees Rasler, Vaan sees Reks. But while Ashe still feels so much fury about Rasler, Vaan stops expressing anger about Reks after he's resolved his shit with Basch in the first five hours of the game... so he seems like a pretty weak candidate for the Occuria to pin their hopes on. I feel like an interesting pitch would be for Vaan and Ashe to actually be in lockstep for like, most of the game (which is what the Occuria's illusions seem to suggest anyway). Vaan learns Basch didn't kill his brother. Cool. Someone still did though, which means someone's still to blame, which means he can't let go of his anger yet. Easy enough to make Gabranth his new target. And then, in the later hours of the game, after their big adventure, Vaan is waffling more, thinking about what Ashe's vengeance would mean for his home, and the other common people of Dalmasca, and firmly plants his feet on the side of No Vengeance, Not Like This, just in time for the climax at the Pharos. In many ways I feel like the pieces of that plot are already there, and may or may not be what the dev team thought they were writing! But, as it is, it just kinda falls flat. Tbh I think that's because the writers had inconsistent visions about what Vaan's internal world is like.
As for the others... I mean, Penelo got all her shit cut, which is beyond sad. But Basch also gets his rough edges smoothed out after Vaan stops hating him--I mean, I think he gets some good stuff with Vossler and his own brother, but he's curiously absent from a lot of Ashe's conversations about power-seeking, mostly just kinda watching her from afar with either stone-faced concern or a bland smile. Though many fans point to Basch's existence as like "see! this one's not like the other Final Fantasies, it's got this grizzled old guy in it who's closer to the main plot of the game than the protagonist is!" (and also bcuz they're still on that Basch Was Always Supposed To Be The Protagonist theory that got debunked), Basch doesn't actually get all that much content, let alone enough to carry him as the protag.
Idk. This is the same criticism of FFXII that people have made many, many times, but it really is just a wildly inconsistently written game. The first several hours are extremely strong, and then not only is the story doled out in increasingly smaller portions with less frequency, but the writing loses track of what most of the characters actually want. No wonder fans attach themselves to Balthier, he's easily the most consistently written character in the game. Every other character either suffers from inconsistencies (Vaan, Ashe), or is consistent, but runs out of material (Fran, Basch), or has basically been written out of the story (Penelo).
DGMW I still love FFXII though. Definitely a GOAT for me. It just clearly and obviously suffered from the abrupt change in the development team and Matsuno's fraught departure.

{i am the caretaker of souls} Hey, everyone. For those who don't follow Basch's blog, I'll recap over here. Work is finally over, so yay! But... I'm sick now. I started feeling terrible today and now I have a fever. I've been comfort-writing over on that blog because that's where the majority of my muse is (I'm very much hyperfixated on FFXII and my muses from that at present, heh). What I'm going to do is bump this blog to tomorrow and see how I feel. If I'm feeling up to writing then I will be here tomorrow night. If I get sicker and don't feel like being on the computer, I'll let everyone know. I really expect to get at least some things done here on Sunday though. I'll try my best! =)

~About Roegadyn Roost~
Hello there fellow FFXIV enthusiasts and big lady enjoyers.
My name is Anarnee, I'm a 30+ ace woman that loves all things about female Roegadyn.
My journey in Eorzea started ten years ago in 2013. My younger brother was playing the game on PS3 and I saw him running through Ul'dah and it reminded me of Rabanastre from FFXII. I've been a devout Final Fantasy fan since I was very young, but I was super against MMOs at the time, so I was really upset when FFXI and XIV were going to be MMOs. I however gave FFXIV a try and I was HOOKED. When I started making my first character in the character creator, I was immediately drawn to Female Roegadyn. This was actually because the face I choose reminded me of the fierce Viera from Final Fantasy Tactics advanced and Final Fantasy XII. I loved Viera, and if they were in XIV at launch I probably would have ended up playing Viera then. However fate had it that Roegadyn were the option that most drew me in and my character Thyn'a Sindyrl was born. I made my first alt Mjna after I'd gotten to end game and decided I wanted to gear both Dragoon and Bard without having to fret about lockouts and I took both through the Binding Coil of Bahamut in those early days. I then made my alt Ahna when I had "tankxiety" and I wanted to get better at it, so my valliant Warrior girl was born. When Heavensward rolled around it was everything I wanted from the game and more, but come 2.51, my favorite piece of headgear in the XIV was added to the game - The Bunny Crown. Back then I just liked wearing them as a statement piece, but now they've become a key part of my characters identity. I realized, I couldn't have Viera, but I could pretend I was a really big Viera woman. As much as I still love Viera, by the time Shadowbringers rolled around, Roegadyn had become such a big part of my core, I could never imagine being anything else for very long. I love their aesthetic, I love their lore, I love them with my whole heart! This blog is a tribute to my journeys and a place where I can share my love for what I feel is one of the most woefully under-loved races in XIV. Though I've seen a lot of big lady love start to blossom over the years, it's not as accepted or normalized as I'd like, and I hope to share just a bit of the beauty I see in Femroe every time I log in to play. Thanks for letting me gush about my girls! I am always excited to see other folks Roegals too.

I've been reading my FFXII books I wrote and illustrated in 2017 again (still need to read 2,5 out of 5 books). I really like to read the Gabranth (Noah) parts, but there aren't as much as I like. He's really interesting in this story... I don't know why I wrote so little about him. (; ω ; ) He didn't seem to interest me as much as Balthier and Basch at the time, but the way he's written here makes me love him.
So now I love drawing him.
And then I remembered I had this (mostly) FFXII blog! Are people still even active here? In any case, I will be posting FFXII art again. Here is my Twitter and official website in case you don't know, but I will also post on tumblr.
