When I started shipping them

before I even watched the show. I started my One Chicago journey with Med, saw Moustead in the background of a few Rhodestead fics I liked, looked at Mouse's wiki page, realized Moustead would hurt me viciously and then started PD for that reason.

My thoughts

I miss Mouse. I'm actually listening to one of my Mouse playlists right now and thinking about how Jay would be the perfect opposite to one of his bad coping mechanisms and stress responses and feeling too many things on the couch.

What makes me happy about them

the fact that they canonically call each other at 3am if they can't sleep. that one got to me.

What makes me sad about them

literally everything else.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me

I don't know? I don't think there's any major no-no that I have with Moustead fanfiction. I mean, I headcanon that Mouse is gay and I acknowledge that most of the fandom headcanons him as bi, and I'm usually pretty eh about that difference coming up in fics, like I generally don't care? but if I'm in the platonic tag and see a fic that's Mouse dating a female character I won't read it. but when it comes to romantic Moustead fics it's very hard to get me to stop reading it.

Things I look for in fanfic

I love angst, so honestly acknowledging any of the trauma that either of them have faced in canon (before the plot of the show or on screen) and having them comfort each other, especially relating to things like Jay being taken in 301 or Mouse being held hostage in 303, or anything else where we don't actually get to see much of the fallout from that stress, that is. that's the good shit.

My wishlist

^^^ more fics about them leaning on each other after times of stress. whether it's romantic or platonic. not enough fics exist of them just. checking on each other.

for canon: just acknowledge Mouse. you don't even have to bring him back anymore. just say his name. I miss him that much. have Jay allude to something and talk about him. the opportunity was right there in 903 and I'm still mad about it.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other

for Jay, I've gotten into my multi-shipping phase so that is... almost anyone. for Mouse, there's no one else in canon that I really ship him with. but if he's off with a husband or boyfriend after 6 years off screen I wouldn't be mad about it. he deserves to be happy.

My happily ever after for them

with where we're at with canon, now, the only two things I will accept are Cozy Trio™ or acknowledging Mouse's pining but ultimately having him move on, ideally with Upstead being invited to whatever future wedding he has.
