"France became the first country in the world to make abortion a constitutional right Monday [March 4, 2024], with French lawmakers adopting the bill in a 780-72 vote in a move inspired by the U.S. reversal of Roe vs. Wade.
The law gives women a "guaranteed freedom" to choose for themselves if an abortion is the right choice to make.
The amendment won the support of the three-fifths of the 925 National Assembly and Senate members required to pass in an extraordinary afternoon session at the Palace of Versailles just outside Paris in a move that was overwhelmingly supported by the public.
Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said to those assembled in Congress Hall that "we owe a moral debt" to the women who had to suffer through illegal abortions in the past.
After the vote to approve the constitutional change, Paris' Eiffel Tower was lit with the words in French "my body my choice" in the country where abortion was first legalized in 1975, two years after the United States' first ruling on Roe vs. Wade...
While limiting abortion ranked very low on France's political agenda, lawmakers were prompted to take action to protect abortion rights in 2022 following the U.S. Supreme Court's overturning of the 1973 Roe ruling that legalized abortion. Subsequently, several American states have passed laws to restrict or outlaw the procedure.
"I say to all women within our borders and beyond, that today, the era of a world of hope begins," said Attal, who at 34 became the country's youngest prime minister.
This was the first time since 2008 that France took steps to change its constitution. There will be a ceremony to finalize the amendment on Friday [March 8, 2024], which is also International Women's Day."

You ever be totally immersed in a story and then you come across a line about a subject and you realize you know more about this subject than the author and what the author wrote down was completely wrong and it's not even that the author didn't do research so much as the author didn't even think this was something that even needed to be researched? And it drives you absolute cuckoo bananas?

I have to say I’m so impressed with British theatre’s accessibility effort. They always have audio description performances with touch tours beforehand, sensory adapted performances and good availability for sign language and captioned performances. I think those two are pretty standard now but I just saw that the young Vic is doing a couple of relaxed performances. Not something I was familiar with but it’s so awesome!

i dont know tho like the ethnicity shit is so fascinating to me given the war and the fact that i interact with a large amount of ukrainians and russians cause of my work where i have to very meangingfully present to everyone that i acknowledge my ukrainian heritage and that my russian heritage is unfortunate which feels extremely silly because this is 100% just posturing on my part. i am neither meaningfully russian nor ukrainian. i have been to russia and i felt like a tourist. i guarantee you if i went to visit the ukrainian side of my family (um, when all their hometowns werent warzones yet) i would feel almost exactly as foreign. honestly having to go through the song and dance of justifying my ethnicity gives this illusion to other people that it has any actual effect on my life which it doesn't in many of the ways people expect it to, at least. even my czech citizenship feels frankly meaningless given i still havent learned the language fluently enough because its just easier to teach english given my background and abilities and none of my czech friends speak czech to me. ive failed to assimilate to anything lmfao

9. tell a story about your childhood
When I was i think 9 or 10, I had a neighbor who every single weekend we would walk a mile to the grocery store together, buy boxed cake mix and frosting and decorations, and walk back to their house. We would then bake a cake and chat the whole time (also sidebar, a lot of those cakes wound up being rainbow bc we were both baby egg gays but that’s beside the point). Anyways, one of these times, maybe like a year or two into this tradition idk we started jokingly talking about creating our own nation to secede from the US. We called it Rekelmoria and wrote a constitution in comic sans and designed a flag and in a drawer somewhere I am so sure I still have a shirt with that flag printed on it 😂 anyways who wants to join rekelmoria and form our own country I’m like 70% sure our national anthem was a shitty cover of thrift shop by Macklemore
30. what’s one thing that never fails to make you happy/happier?

32. how many tabs do you have open right now?
On my phone? Easily 1000+
On my computer? I think 8-9 currently? I had to close most of my tabs for my computer to handle finishing the last chapter of rawnsyf because of the size of the document and the amount of edits in it 😂
37. share a secret
Hmmmmm I don’t feel like I have many secrets honestly 😭 I love photos and videos of dogs but they kind of stress me out irl? I don’t think I’ll ever 100% get over my middle school crush on my best friend? Idk

'colonial christianity' bffr what the fuck are you on? like i said, stop trying to play saviour here.
dalit and bahujan people in india faced and continue to face systemic oppression at the hands of upper caste communities. when europeans came to mercifully civilize us all, they brought with them money.
many tribal and oppressed caste people--not unlike great grandfathers and grandmothers of my own family--saw colonizer money and benefits as a means of escape from material oppression (if i was at risk of being beaten up and lynched for daring to even enter the brahmin area of a village, i would take that money and education to give myself a more dignified life). in exchange they had to accept christianity.
if you're not from any part of south asia, you probably don't get AT ALL how pervasive the caste system is, how much of indian society is structured on it. do you understand the sheer amount of both structural and direct violence required to maintain caste hierarchies? even today? when most people in the world think of caste in india as something trivial and bygone?
as the second largest religious minority in this country, we form around a whopping 3% of the entire population. there's no denying that we started out by inheriting racist white colonial theology. however, we are not just passive receivers. dalit liberation theology and tribal theology have been growing movements within many denominations.
to this day, tribal christians in north and central india face the brunt of anti christian violence at the hands of upper caste hindus. this violence is undeniably caste based, shrouded in a good dose of hatred against religious minorities. entire towns torched, churches burned, people quartered and butchered, people burnt alive, people living in fear with their internet access cut off and mobile network turned off during major christian festivals.
this is of course just a snapshot.
my personal beliefs? doesn't matter. even if i dedicate my life to openly criticising everything wrong with christianity (and i am well aware of a lot that is wrong. i have a lot to say about it too) it won't matter. with the rise of hindu nationalism (many compare what's happening in india to a piece of history from the mid 20th century involving germany and a certain charismatic leader), religious minorities take even more heat than we did before, muslims in india unequivocally facing the worst of it all.
you tell me if i'm playing saviour or if i'm attempting to extend solidarity with a shared understanding of what it's like to be in a religious minority.

You can use black/green tea as an alternative for coffee. If not, I take Adderall but I don't know if ya have it
I'm aware, but thank you! I generally prefer coffee over tea and also it works slightly better for me, so it's on a case by case basis. I think tea kicks in later but stays for longer? Anyhow.
Also Adderall is literally fucking illegal where I live I hate it here haha
