Faithless - Insomnia 1995
"Insomnia" was released as the second single off of Faithless' debut album Reverence (1996), and became one of their most successful songs. It has, dare I say, one of the most famous drops of its era.
It was originally released in 1995 and reached number 27 on the UK Singles Chart, topping the UK Dance Chart in the process. "Insomnia" reached number one in Finland, Norway and Switzerland. Additionally, it managed to climb into the Top 10 also in Austria, Belgium (number 2), Denmark, France, Germany (number 2), Iceland, Ireland, Scotland, and Sweden, as well as on the Eurochart Hot 100, where it hit number 3. Reverence reached number 26 on the UK Albums Chart. The single also reached the top spot on the RPM Dance Chart in Canada and the Billboard Dance Club Songs in the US, number 16 in Australia and number 39 in New Zealand. After Maxi Jazz's death in December 2022, "Insomnia" charted at number four on the UK Singles Downloads Chart.
MTV Dance placed "Insomnia" at number 22 in their list of "The 100 Biggest 90's Dance Anthems Of All Time" in November 2011. It was voted by Mixmag readers as the fifth "Greatest Dance Record of All Time" in 2013. It was certified triple platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) in 2023.
Faithless member Rollo is the brother of singer-songwriter Dido, featured on poll #120.
"Insomnia" received a total of 43,9% yes votes. :'(

Army of Lovers [Camilla Henemark] photographed by Roger Tillberg at The Grammis (Swedish Music Awards) as they receive an award for "Best Group" (March 1990). Camilla Henemark was born in Stockholm, to a Nigerian father and a Swedish mother. She started her modeling career in her teens and later had her own modeling agency. Henemark started her career in music in 1985 by joining Alexander Bard in his Barbie project as Katanga. That project morphed into the group Army of Lovers, and soon La Camilla (as she is best known) became the face of the group. Army of Lovers is a Swedish dance-pop group which formed in 1987 and had a number of hits in Europe throughout the 1990s. Some of their biggest successes include the song "Crucified", which was a big hit in Europe, charting 31 weeks in the Eurochart and peaking at number 14 in 1992. It remains their best-known song internationally. Their second international hit, "Obsession", charted 32 weeks and peaked at number 29. Their total album sales were seven million copies worldwide. The name of the band alludes to the documentary film Army of Lovers or Revolt of the Perverts by German gay rights activist Rosa von Praunheim, the title of which in turn alludes to the Sacred Band of Thebes.

Boomerang- Blümchen 1996
Thoughts: It's a really energetic song! It's very enjoyable. It was 33 on the Eurochart Top 100 in August 1996, and was a hit again as 89 on the Europe Top 200 chart in 2010. In Germany alone, it was the second most downloaded song and was number seven on the single chart. One of my mutuals from my main blog recommended this to me, so big thanks to @eternally-intermittent !
Lyrics under the cut, from google.

Lyrics:
Ah yeah.
There's a place where a kid without a cent
He can grow up to be president (to be president)
A magic kingdom filled with Barbie dolls
If you've got the time we can make it a good time.
Americanos - Blue Jeans and Chinos
Coke, Pepsi and Oreos - Americanos.
Movies and heroes in the land of the free
You can be what you wanna be.
They know how to advertise
Sell you anything at any price
Need it or not, that's what you got, yeah.
Take no bull from anyone
we just wanna have some fun
We got the Queen of Soul
created to Rock'n Roll

Ah yeah!

SongFacts:
"Americanos" is a song by English singer Holly Johnson, released in 1989 as the second single from his debut solo album, Blast (1989). It was written by Johnson, and produced by Andy Richards and Steve Lovell, with additional production from Dan Hartman.
The song reached No. 4 in the United Kingdom and was a commercial success across Europe, topping the Austrian Singles Chart and peaking at No. 3 on the Eurochart Hot 100. A music video was filmed to promote the single. This featured an affluent American family and their somewhat poorer but good hearted neighbours each watching a televised lottery show.
Upon release, Chris Heath of Smash Hits described the song as an "'80s update of David Bowie's Young Americans in both its content and its spirit, where he acknowledges the superficiality of the American dream but isn't narrow-minded enough to simply condemn it." New Musical Express noted the song's "acid irony". Steve Sutherland of Melody Maker described the song as having "skirt-twirling Latinate sarcasm". Music & Media described the song as a "thoroughly modern slice of blue-eyed soul" and "very commercial".

It’s living on my own, but having fun. There’s a bit in the middle where I do my scat singing and I’m just saying that when you think about somebody like me, my lifestyle, I have to go around the world and live in hotels and that can be a very lonely life. But I chose it....I mean, you can have a whole shoal of people looking after you, but in the end they all go away and you are in a hotel room on your own....It’s a different kind of living on my own. People with my success can be lonely and can live on their own as well. After a live performance of the song in 2012, Italian singer Sabrina Salerno released the song as a digital download in 2015, however the song was never promoted as a single. Actors Jean-Paul Rouve and Isabelle Nanty performed the song as duet in the Olivier Baroux's 2011 film Les Tuche. The song was covered by many artists, including Ishii, Akemi (石井明美) in Japanese version from her 1986 album Mona Lisa, Michael von der Heide in 1998, Gregorian in a new age version as bonus track on the album Masters of Chant Chapter III, Leslie on her 2007 album 80 Souvenirs, Jolie in French and English versions in 2010. It was also the second best-selling single in 1986, behind " Les Démons de minuit", by Images. "Ouragan" was the first single to remain at the top of the French Singles Chart for at least ten weeks, beating the record set in 1985 by Peter and Sloane with "Besoin de rien, envie de toi". In 1986, it was certified Platinum Single by the French certifier SNEP, having achieved at least one million sales. It peaked at number eleven in Switzerland and was also a hit in Germany, where it reached number two. It debuted at number seventeen on the chart edition of 5 April 1986 and rocketed up the chart, reaching the top position on 26 April, and charted for a total of 29 weeks until 18 October 1986. "Ouragan" had a huge success in France, peaking at number one for ten consecutive weeks. The video runs for 5:20 and uses a remix of the song that alternates between the original French lyrics and the English lyrics for "Irresistible." At the end of the video, in a significant plot twist, the stranger is revealed to be a male version of Stéphanie with slightly slicked down hair and little makeup. Eventually a video was made that features the princess in various locations pursuing a mysterious stranger in a hat. The only video available was some footage shot in the recording studio. No music video was produced initially, as the song was not expected to be such a success. The song was also recorded in English, under the name "Irresistible", in order to win over the Anglophones and other non-French speaking peoples - but with little success. When Jeanne Mas refused to record the song, the composer offered it to Stéphanie of Monaco, who finally accepted. Yves Roze, the song's producer, is known under the pseudonym of Jean-François Michael, who recorded "Adieu jolie Candy" in 1969/ This song was written by Romano Musumarra, who had already written several hits for Jeanne Mas and Elsa.

The Lightning Seeds - You Showed Me 1996
"You Showed Me" is a song written by Gene Clark and Jim McGuinn of the Byrds in 1964. It was recorded by the Turtles and released as a single at the end of 1968, becoming the group's last big hit in the US. The song has also been covered or partially incorporated into other songs by a number of other acts over the years, including Salt-N-Pepa and Lutricia McNeal. In 1996, the song was covered in a trip hop style by British alternative rock band the Lightning Seeds and released as a single. It was originally intended to be a B-side to their previous single, "What If…", and utilises loops and samplers from the Turtles original. The song became one of the Lightning Seeds' most successful chart releases reaching No. 8 in the UK. By the time the single was released, drummer Chris Sharrock had left the band to join Robbie Williams' backing group, and new percussionist Zak Starkey took his place in its music video. Additionally, it peaked at No. 4 in Iceland and No. 42 on the Eurochart Hot 100. It was also included on the soundtrack to the 1997 film Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. It recieved 70,6% total yes votes!

Lyrics:
Life is a paradise...whoa oh yeah
[Chorus:]
Lucky love belongs in teenage heaven
I know, I know
'Cause I've been there with you tonight
I believe life could be paradise once again...
And the love we thought we lost is sleeping within
Close your eyes it's something for you
I'm a prisoner of hope
I know
We are young and we are old
We're fallin' like leaves, like leaves...
And your heart's so full of soul
It makes me believe
Once again, it's something for you...
Songwriter:
A bridge over time
Was what you need to see the light, to see the light
Oh yeah
Lucky love, lucky love
Lucky love belongs in teenage heaven...
Joker / Billy Steinberg

"Take a Chance on Me" is a 1978 song by the Swedish pop group ABBA. It was released as the second single from their fifth studio album ABBA: The Album.  It reached #1 in the UK, Austria, Mexico, Belgium and the Eurochart and #3 in the US, Germany, and Canada.
The working title of "Take a Chance on Me" was "Billy Boy". Written and recorded in 1977 by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, it opens as a cold intro and was sung by Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, with Fältskog delivering the solo passages. It has a constant uptempo throughout the entire recording. The song's origins sprang from Ulvaeus, whose hobby was running. While jogging along, he would sing a "tck-a-ch"-style rhythm to himself over and over again, which then evolved into "take-a-chance" and the eventual lyrics.
