Etrian Odyssey Series: Compilation of Archetypal Town Characters
I really love the NPCs that show up in each Etrian Odyssey game, in the town you keep coming back to between dungeon visits. Unironically, I'm always excited to see the new shopkeeper, innkeeper, barkeeper, etc. of any given EO game. Because of that, just for fun, I decided to gather official art for all characters of the archetypes: guildmasters (whom you speak to when growing and organizing your guilds), innkeepers (whom you speak to when resting at an inn or storing/taking back items), shopkeepers (whom you speak to when buying goods and armor/weapons), barkeepers (whom you speak to to get and report sidequests), and...mission givers? (officials whom you speak to to get or report important story missions).
Now, some of this art was a bit tough to find, mainly for Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2 and the Mobile game, since neither was released outside of Japan and the latter is more or less lost. For EMD 2 I went to some Japanese articles on 4gamer talking about it (https://www.4gamer.net/games/375/G037512/20170720039/ and https://www.4gamer.net/games/375/G037512/20170622014/) and for the Mobile game I went to this Japanese Article that that talked about playing it a little (http://dihyhi.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-47.html), which to my knowledge is one of the only documentations of that game, so credit to those sources for the art. I also machine translated those sites for info on the Characters' names and whatnot, so take it with a grain of salt. I know machine translations are rarely very helpful but it's all I had right now, sorry.
It should also be noted that there will be light spoilers for some of the games here, mainly Etrian Odyssey 3. Nothing too egregious, at worst it's for something you find when you beat the second Stratum, but I still feel I should mention it.
One last thing, I will be listing most games as EO plus their respective number (so the first game will be EO1), the Mystery Dungeon games will be listed as EMD and EMD2, for the first and second respectively, the Mobile game will written EOM, and even though in America it's called Etrian Odyssey Nexus I will write that game as "EOX", simply because that's more distinctive as an acronym. I've seen others on here do that so it's probably not so weird but I still felt I should clarify.
But enough talk! It is time to meet the guildmasters, some of the most important NPCs in any Etrian Odyssey game! Mostly rather well-armored looking (except for in EO3, EMD2, and Mobile), these tend to be pretty cool characters, and while we don't always get to see them fight much it's welcome when the chance does arrive.
Tumblr media
My favorite of these is probably Marion, with Asuka and Egar as runner ups.
[The rest will be under the Keep reading, otherwise this post would just be way too long by default]
And now, for the group that, to be real, is a big part of why I wanted to make this post: the Innkeepers! Friendly, helpful folks that run the inns where your characters can rest, healing up and saving progress. As some likely remember, I already listed most of these characters in that meme I made some time back, featuring characters I like that have constantly closed eyes (https://barbaracleboy.tumblr.com/post/722662911985778688/forgive-me-if-ive-posted-this-here-already-but-i). I intentionally tried to list every Innkeeper from the Etrian Odyssey series (minus some whose eye aren't closed all the time, whom I will get into later), and I largely succeeded!...except it turns out that there's a unique innkeeper in the Etrian Odyssey Mobile game. Granted, I can't really get on myself for that, it's a Japan-only mobile game that barely anyone seems to have played or heard of and is also not available anymore. Still, that was a slight bummer for me. But look! They're all here now!
Tumblr media
My favorites of these is probably Hanna, with Jenetta and Dalla as runner ups.
And now, I can truly have them lined up together.
Tumblr media
Look! They're friends!
Next up are various shopkeepers! Fun fact! Napier is not only the Shopkeeper to have run the shop in two separate games (not counting remakes), but one of, if not the only one of these NPCs to have hosted a facility in two separate games.
Tumblr media
My favorite of these is probably Shilleka, with Edie and Wynne as runner ups.
This group consists of characters in similar not identical roles to the prior group: if I'm correct, in Etrian Odyssey One medicines and equipment were sold at different shops, and at medicine shops you could also revive characters and cure petrification (EO2 brought medicine at the main shop but kept the revival at the hospital). Hoffman, Stiles, and Muse(?) here ran their respective games medicine shops/hospitals, Angie supported Dr. Stiles, Don Chano supported his daughter, Elizabeth (from the prior group), and Lizley and the Merchant of Darkness(?) acted as merchants you coukd run into within the dungeon itself. Also, apparently Hoffman, Stiles, and Angie are (based on) characters from Trauma Center, which is neat.
Tumblr media
My favorite of these is probably Don Chano, with either Lizley and the Merchant of Darkness as runner ups.
Another big favorite of mine, the Barkeeps! It's always fun chatting with these friendly types, hearing them cheer you on before many quests and compliment you for having completed one. They're so pleasant!...Though. yeah, Kvasir can be quite suspect with some of the things he says.
Tumblr media
My favorite here is probably Kirtida, with Niralda and...either Missy or Mukkoran as runner ups...I love them too much, ha.
I don't know what to call this grouo really but they give the story missions and are about all in some position of power. Some are more involved in the story than others, but overall you will be seeing them often...Also, for some reason I couldn't find anyone that fills this role for Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2? Maybe I just did a bad job at looking but I don't know, I just couldn't find anybody. It's odd.
Tumblr media
My favorite here has GOT to be the Outland Count (massively fond of his face, his moustache, and his dog), with Flowdia and Persephone as runner ups.
Last group here, being a variety of characters that act as alternatives or support for some of the other ones. This also has spoilers for etrian Odyssey 3 (the thing being spoiled is discovered after you beat the second Stratum but still).
Visil is a character you'll occasionally see during tbe story of EO1, Quona is Hannah's daughter who will sometimes greet you at the inn instead of or in addition to her mother, Gradriel is someone you'll see a bit throughout EO2's story, Gutrune is the Princess of Armoroad whom you'll see and/or hear about throuought EO3's story, Seyfreid is the Abyssal King whom you'll speak with and get Subclasses from in the Deep City of EO3, Napier's Sister (who, unfortunately, seems to have no confirmed name) runs the shop of the Deep City in EO3, Angie (who I would presume isn't the same one from EO2 but is based on the same Trauma Team character? I think?) runs the inn of EO3's Deep City, and finally, Yobo is Traoré's brother in Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2, and I...think he assists Mukkoran in giving out quests?...Him being a recolor is pretty lame, tbh.
Tumblr media
My favorite here is probably Visil, with Napier's Sister and Seyfreid as runner ups.
HOO! THERE WE GO! Hope you guys liked this little trip down memory lane I guess, ha. I love many of these characters, and if and when EO6 happens I can't wait to see who it introduces that'll enter my heart just like many of these have!

The first mystery dungeon game was alright, the second is slow/laggy. BUT there's more classes to choose from, which is neat. It's good to see Ace (the alchemist boy I used in EO/EO2) back, even though the character portrait is not his exact portrait, so I took some artistic liberties. That's why his hair isn't short. Also buff pirate man good :)

I couldn’t find any dual mixes of the EO2U and EMD versions of Forbidden Forest, so I made my own.

do you have any recommendations for people going to japan?
do you have any recommendations for 3ds/ds/etc games someone could play on a 14 hour plane ride to japan?
Reccomendations for Japan, like in general?? Kinda vague, but lemme think and also tag @doktorpeace and @draayder for their thoughts too
-If you're going to Tokyo, Kabukicho is a MUST. It's the entertainment district! If there's anywhere in Tokyo you're not gonna look like a dumbass for walking around and gawking at things. It's Kabukicho. And there's plenty to gawk at! The square outside of Toho theater usually has something going on, there's TONS of small music venues, @doktorpeace once said something like 'you could eat at a different restaurant every day for every meal for a year and not run out of good places to eat in Kabukicho' and they are SO right. As a bonus if you've ever played a Yakuza/LaD/RGG game you almost definitely know most of the layout already. Kabukicho is not hard to navigate at all, and I'm sure that's intentional. Anyway. Go to Kabukicho. Explore the Don Quixote. Eat the food. Take a picture with the Godzilla statue. 10/10
-Honestly? I expected Harajuku to be a lot more expensive than it was, but then again the USD has more buying power than usual in Japan? Anyway the thing about Tokyo is that people there are intimidatingly trendy, I went there and now I understand why Splatoon is like that, the youths of Tokyo will wear their heavy black visual kei outfits during record-breaking heatwaves because fashion is THAT important. Anyway it's real easy to find good-quality clothes for reasonable prices there, and also a bunch of thrift shops full of cool stuff! You'll find a sweater for any American pro or college sports team you can think of and that's a promise. Fair warning, shibuya thrifting will not be significantly cheaper than regular retail, unless you're shopping for traditional Japanese clothing, in which case you absolutely should and I reccomend a store called Chicago, they had a HUGE selection. Spinns is a good store too, they also have a website that I keep meaning to order stuff from.......
-Osaka is really cool, but if you're there you're gonna want to stop by the Amerika-mura part of town. Very cool, very artsy, it feels kinda like Shibuya, if Shibuya was more like New York? Kinda?? The point is that it's VERY cool over there, there's a lot of art and neat places to get snacks and clothing stores. Absolutely check it out if you can
-the best burger I've ever had in my life was the kobe beef burger at Kokopelli. The guy who runs the place spent a lot of time in the states. I greeted him in Japanese and he said back 'hey guys what's up' in a perfect Midwestern accent. Anyway extremely good. Get some burgers there if you can
As for video games...... @doktorpeace played through Pokemon Ultra Sun on the plane ride. Don’t do that. Just play regular Sun/Moon. I was playing a lot of Octopath Traveler 2 and The World Ends With You Neo on that trip myself, and my partners both took turns with Pikmin 4 (which had just come out).
If you have a 3ds, basically any Shin Megami Tensei game you can get running on there would be a good choice, I personally reccomend SMT4/SMT4 Apocalypse and SMT Soul Hackers in terms of native hardware, I'm sure you could get the PS1 smt on there with some homebrewing and elbow grease, it can emulate basically everything up to the Sega Saturn just fine. Also Etrian Odyssey is really good, play the Untold versions on 3ds for 1 and 2 and the re-release on Switch for 3. 4, 5, and Nexus are all 3ds native. There's also a mystery dungeon game but it's only okay.
But uuuuuuh if you have like...a steam deck there's a LOT of Baldur's Gate. Like a lot. This game is huge. There are also two entire Psychonauts games! Did you know that?? Did you know you can play Psychonauts?? Did you know that is a game y

Since Etrian Odyssey Collections have been out for a while, where new and old fans have finally been able to try their hands at the three classics, I'm curious to know if anyone's favourite game have changed. The last time I did this poll, Untold2 was the winner. Let's see who the winner of this poll will be~

smt fan here but never played the persona games. if i wanted to start getting into persona which game should i start with?
trauma center: under the knife, trauma center: under the knife 2, trauma center: second opinion
but really if you are a fan of smt then please start with persona 1 (revelations: persona) if possible, then 2 (innocent sin & eternal punishment duology), then 3.. skip 4. then 5. would also recommend the persona Q spin-off games if you like etrian odyssey / mystery dungeon type games. 👍

any obscure games I can feel like a hipster playing? don't care if they're technically mediocre sometimes they vibe more that way.
sure here's a list of niche games (perhaps not obscure) i enjoy:
final fantasy 2 - obligatory rec; technically mediocre for sure and i guess you'll either feel like a hipster or a nerd and i think both are acceptable. please please please please please please etc etc
lufia 2 - as someone who has only played loz link's awakening this feels like that with jrpg fights. it is really good and the og is on my to-play list eventually but this game is just so fucking cool. plot is a little wack but whatever. music is really good too
suikoden - i personally like the first more than the second but both ps1 titles are really good - standard jrpg affair but i would consider them niche enough to put on a list here. i am sloooowly playing through the third game but i have enjoyed my time with it through the first few bits
legend of the dark witch - anime babe platformer. decent mix of easy and hard entries but i had a fun time with the series
terranigma - truthfully I haven't gotten very far into it but it is niche so could be worth your time nona
vagrant story - tbh I don't care for the plot but the gameplay is straight fire and sydney losstarot is very cool
legend of dragoon - BURNING RUSH... SPINNING CANE... MORE AND MORE.... COOOOOL BOOGIE... SUMMON FOUR GODS... etc etc. plot gets kind of wack in the later discs but holy FUCK is the gameplay so good.
etrian odyssey just in general - i had a fun time playing the fafnir knight; prolly best to google this series bc youtube can explain it better than i can
final fantasy tactics advance - not obscure but my favorite tactics game. it's a tactics game. not much more to say
ace combat - probably obscure to you if you're looking at my blog; but i really liked ace combat 2. if you enjoy plane shootey games it is good
if you like schlocky fanservice games lord of magna: maiden heaven is a fun romp with hot anime babes. twas little circle's awakening to the vast world of video games (outside pokémon and project diva) so it holds a special place in my heart. grant george voices the antag. so.... yeah
if you like mystery dungeon games i really enjoyed chocobo dungeon 2; the ffx-2 dungeon game I didn't really get into but it is niche
once i finally escape from Scholarly Hell for summer the next game i plan on playing is legend of legaia. truthfully it seems like xenogears with the combat system but i cannot tell whether it is better or worse but i will probably make a post about it in a few months
oh. you know what? play xenogears. play xenogears, nona. you should play xenogears.
or final fantasy 2. because it is good. at least if you squint really hard and tilt your head and squint a little more

Hey, so, does anybody have information on Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2? Especially the NPCs in its town? Because I don't know if I'm bad at research but I can't find ANYTHING. I can't even find decent wikis or articles in Japanese, let alone English, and finding gameplay on YouTube is not only also difficult but what I find is mostly of the dungeon stuff. I just wanna know the names of the Characters, I like their designs.
I know the game was never localized, and I've heard it's worse than the first EMD, but still...I'm curious.
(Also, I generally wanna get a good look at the various NPCs for each archetype for the EO games. So, like, the Innkeepers, the Shopkeepers, the Guildmasters, etc.)

i got off my lazy ass to write this about me
i'm quirky and stuff--have the autisms, anxiety, and probably many other undiagnosed problems, but i assure you i'm a chill person that maybe gets a little too passionate over my interests. i'll also get passionate over your interests secondhandedly if we're friends.
i like writing, i draw once every blue moon, and if you ever want me to not shut up, you ask about my OCs because i have built worlds, and alternate worlds, alternate timelines, several canon/non-canon/poly/yume ships, even alternate versions of characters. these take all of the hard drive space in my brain because i don't write that kinda stuff down 90% of the time and it may be the reason for my memory issues but that's whatever--necessary sacrifice, really
the interests
Arknights
Angels
OCs
Monster Hunter
Splatoon (i am the tri-stringer's strongest fighter)
Etrian Odyssey
Shin Megami Tensei
Xenoblade Chronicles
Gundam (i'm not that deep into it i just like the cool robots and autistic war criminals)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
Ace Attorney
Cassette Beasts (i need to stop procrastinating on Pier of the Unknown)
Touhou
Granblue Fantasy
Shipping (yes, as a whole, and i will pair up any characters that i think have even the slightest amount of chemistry)
And probably other niche/maybe not-so-niche indie game/RPG-related stuff that i either don't remember off the top of my head, or there's just too much to write down lest this get Too Fucking Long
the complicated love/hate sorta stuff
Fire Emblem
Disgaea
Whatever the fuck Square Enix is up to
Same as the above but with Atlus
Honestly just any video game company with terrible pricing and nasty business practices
Windows PCs (i am unpaid tech support for myself and my friend group)
the brainrot
Executor (Arknights)
Elysium (Arknights)
Grimnir (Granblue Fantasy)
Percival (Granblue Fantasy)
Temenos, and also Crick because they're dating (Octopath Traveler 2, also I did complete his story--I'm inconsolable)
Owain (Fire Emblem)
Flonne (Disgaea)
Herlock Sholmes (Ace Attorney)
Mikazuki Augus (Gundam)
Melia (Xenoblade Chronicles)

(Kinda Late) Nintendo Direct thoughts (2/8/23)
Tumblr media
Teensy bit late on this one due to being at work all day, but I wanted to capture my thoughts on the latest nintendo direct (since we hadn’t had one in months and who knows when the next one is). Go over the highlights, the cool, the meh, and everything that I thought was interesting. Not gonna cover absolutely EVERYTHING, just the things that caught my attention (sorry Samba de Amigo and Fashion Dreamer, I’m sure you’re fun games and all, I just have other things I wanna talk about)Pikmin 4: Looks neat, that’s kinda all I’ve got on it. Visually it’s beautiful for a Switch game, but it’s not a franchise I’ve really cared about, so I’m pretty indifferent on it. Pretty happy for the Pikmin fans though, I know you guys have REAAAALLY been waiting on this one, so good to see it’s finally getting shown off. The dog thing Oatchi feels a little... weird though. Kinda like Pikmin’s version of Poochy or some other example of added dog-like companion getting added to a series, they always feel a little funky when added in my opinion. I dunno though, maybe it fits right in with the rest of Pikmin, I’m not exactly super knowledgeable on the series anyways. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC: That’s neat for Xenoblade fans. I only ever played X on the Wii U, so I don’t have much of a connection to the series, but hope fans of the game are hyped (also, was that Shulk and an older Rex? That was kind of a surprise to see). Who knows though, maybe I’ll try the series out again sometime in the future (probs not though, they seem too big for me) Dead Cells DLC: Ok, with every update this game seems to get, the more tempted I am to get into the game. Actually, why haven’t I gotten it yet?! It looks fun as hell, and it’s got a ton of fun crossovers with Shovel Knight, Katana Zero, Castlevania, and so so so many more games. I Really gotta give it a go at this point. Ghost Trick port: oh HELL yeah, I’ve been wanting to play this one for ages now! The Ace Attorney Trilogy has been a fun way for me to get into those original DS games, and I’m hoping this Ghost Trick port will accomplish the same thing! Bayonetta Origins: It looks ok. That’s about all I’ve got for it. It’s style is pretty different from the other Bayo games which I really like, but this one’s just not really speaking to me as much. Splatoon 3 DLC: Ok, first we’re gonna get Inkopolis as a DLC... Hub? Ok, that’s a bit odd in my opinion. Like, it’ll be nice to revisit Inkopolis after ALL these years, but at the same time it’s like... it’s just a hub... DLC just for an different hub area? Feels kinda... underwhelming I guess? I dunno, just feels like a weird thing to add. As for the Side Order DLC, now THAT ONE’S catching my eyes! More Pearl and Marina, and Splat 2′s hub being completely white and covered in Coral is so mysterious, I love this!! Fire Emblem Engage DLC: I don’t care who you add, I’m not playing this FE Game! Omega Strikers: Honestly, I’ll probs forget about this game in a bit, but I do like the character designs. I dunno, looks fun enough, a neat take on Air Hockey. Might pick it up as a Multiplayer game when I have friends over (ya know, if that ever happens). Etrian Odyssey Collection: Oooooooo, ok, I’m down for this. Only ever played a bit of EOU2: The Fafnir Knight, but the mechanics of it’s dungeon crawling and custom map making was a lot of fun!! Might pick this collection up! Advance Wars 1+2 ReBoot Camp: Hell yeah! I’ve been looking forward to this one ever since it was announced!! It’s also a series I haven’t played before, but it looks so charming and fun, happy it finally has a release date! NSO GameBoy Advanced: Didn’t care much about the GB additions, but the GBA being added?! YEAAAAAH!!! I mean I wish it wasn’t a part of the Expansion pass, but also, YEAAAAAAH!!! I love the sprite work on so many GBA games, and plenty of them I’ve wanted to play myself, so I’m really happy they’re being added (especially both Superstar Saga and The Minish Cap, I fucking love the sprite work in those games so god damn much, AAAAAHHHHH!!!) Metroid Prime Remake: Hell yeah (again)! I’ve always wanted to try the Prime games, so this should be a fun way to get into the series! And available today too?!?! Mario Kart DLC: I’m liking the look of this new course, and getting Birdo in any Mario game is always awesome!! Hoping they’ll add more characters now too since we know that’s not off the table anymore. I’d love Fawful or Starlow to appear in a MK game, but let’s be realistic, that’s not happening Extras: Magalor mode in Kirby seems alright I guess, looks a little forgettable though. That Detective Danganronpa game looks weird. New Fantasy life is neat, first game was enjoyable enough, but I’ll probs pass on this new one. Neat that there’s gonna be a new Professor Layton game. The DecaPolice game looks like it could be fun, but at this point I’m hesitant on any game where you play as cops (though at the same time, it looks to be more Detective than Police, and it’s probs based more on the Japanese police rather than western police. Still hesitant though) And last, but ABSOLUTELY not least
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: This section’s probably going to get pretty long since I am a huge Zelda fan, but first, let me just say, HOLY SHIT WAS THAT MATTHEW MERCER IN ZELDA!?!?!! FUUUCK YEAAAAH!!! Ok, all of my hype aside though, I am actually a little mixed on him being in it. Not cause there’s anything wrong with Matt’s performance (dude always kills it in his roles!), but because now when I’m playing the game, I’ll just hearing him as Matthew Mercer instead of whoever he’s playing (though, that’s not bad either. Hearing Mercer playing any role is always a very enjoyable experience, dude’s got a magic voice and I love every bit of it). And better yet, was he playing mother-fuckin’ GANONDORF?!?! I mean, he’s not immediately who I would’ve imagined for Ganondorf’s voice, but god damn am I always down for some more wonderful Matthew Mercer villain dialogue, especially for my favorite Villain!! But that said though... there’s also the possibility that the trailer mislead us and he’s NOT going to be Ganondorf, but instead playing the role of a new hidden villain instead (another Zant, Ghirahim, Astor, ect., an evil minion type character). I thought it was a little odd that there weren’t any shots of Ganondorf actually speaking, and Mercer’s voice feels a little mismatched for the (currently) dried up and mummified corpse of the Gerudo King, so that makes me wonder if we’re actually hearing dialogue from an unrevealed new villain (though alternatively it could just be dialogue from a... *ahem*,Rehydrated Ganondorf, but we don’t know if that’s going to actually happen or not). I’m not entirely sold on this theory myself (as I could very easily just be looking too far into some small details), but it is a theory I did want to bring up. The Dialogue and framing certainly point to him possibly being the King of all Evil, but those little things... it just feels... a little suspicious is all. As for everything else in the trailer though, OH MY GOD AM I HYPED!!! More Zonai stuff, plenty more enemy varieties, it looks like we’re getting both some sky islands AND underground stuff, there looks to be a ton of interesting changes to hyrule itself, and I CAN’T TELL IF THAT WAS A REDEAD OR A STALFOS BUT OH MY GOD AM I HAPPY THEY’RE BACK!! Looks like we’re getting some new Shiekah stuff, lots of new Zonai stuff, and Link’s new arm looks so interesting!! God am I hyped for this SO GOD DAMN MUCH!!! May can’t come soon enough!!

hiiii i just wanted to thank u for your etrian odyssey recommendation post! i got etrian odyssey 3 tonight because of it and so far it's sooo fun :D the mechanics are very fun to mess around with especially bc i have no clue what i'm doing yet, and all the character art is so cute
Glad to hear it! Etrian Odyssey is still so under appreciated, so I’m glad the Steam release is making the games easier to get into (because good luck getting physical copies now 🥲). All of the EO3 classes are completely different from the ones available in EO1 and 2, so it’s worth trying those games (or at least one of them) too.
I hope they bring more of the series to Steam because more people need to play Etrian Mystery Dungeon.

oh, are there any emulator-able etrian odyssey games that are good? would you recommend any?
Oh boy here we go
As far as I know, all of the EO games can be emulated. The first three titles got released for Nintendo DS, and all later titles for 3DS. All of them are their own conclusive games, with only minor references to other titles if any, so they can be played in any order.
EO1 and 2 also have 3DS remakes called Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl and Etrian Odyssey Untold II: The Fafnir Knight, which I would recommend over the original releases because the remakes add a lot of new features on top of balancing reworks. These two games also have a special Story mode with a fixed party, so if you have trouble picking classes as a beginner, you can start out there. You can still enjoy them the "original" way with Classic mode, though.
In terms of general difficulty, Etrian Odyssey IV is probably the easiest, which is also the game I started out with. It also has a traversable map and small side dungeons, which I really enjoyed. (I think EO3 has a similar feature, but I didn't play that one)
Etrian Odyssey V and Nexus have the most customization options and a lot of gameplay variety, but that can make them quite overwhelming for beginners. Nexus in particular brings back a lot of stuff from the previous games, so I would only go there once you played at least one or two of the others.
There's also two crossover games with the Persona series called Persona Q and Persona Q2, the first featuring characters from Persona 3 and 4, with the second adding the characters from Persona 5 to the mix. Both are separate stories and not related to the main story of the Persona games, so you don't have to worry about missing out if you didn't play through all of them (or any of them like me). They combine both types of gameplay, so if you're familiar with the Persona combat system, those might be the easiest to approach. Even if you're not particularly a Persona fan, they're both good fun.
Don't play Etrian Mystery Dungeon.
