The Other Boleyn Girl 👑✨🖤 Welcome to the grounds of Hever Castle 🏰. Dating back to the 13th century, Hever Castle was once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn! I’d highly recommend a tour of Hever Castle for a peek at what life looked like for the Boleyn family many moons ago. In more “modern” times, the formal Loggia fountain (here!) was inspired by the Trevi fountain in Rome and completed in 1908 after William Waldorf Astor, the American millionaire, acquired Hever Castle and restored the property. The castle and grounds look as amazing as they do today thanks to his family’s restoration efforts. I absolutely love learning about history and visiting spots like this throughout England. There is always so much to discover. Do you enjoy learning little snippets of history too? 📚📖 England travel, English history, explore England, day trips from London, best of England, where to visit in England, England travel guide

Lulworth Castle
Go and find a more symmetrical castle. Towering and intimidating but quite hollow on the inside as it was gutted by a fire in 1929. It’s still pleasant to walk around none-the-less-TommyC
I mean, wow. This castle is stunning and is used today as a wedding venue. When you look from the outside you would expect the inside to be lavish and have many historic artefacts in a good state of preservation - it has some. However, the castle was ravished by fire and much of the interior was lost. The castle of course still houses some historic artefacts but the interior of the castle in places, is essentially a shell of what would have been. At the time of our visit troops were exercising on the land across the road from the castle, so don’t be dismayed if you hear several loud bangs during your visit; you’re just across the road from a military training area -RoxyC Cost & Opening hours: Costs and opening hours will vary depending upon the season and current COVID-19 restrictions. Please check the Lulworth Castle website before your visit.
Side note: We visited in accordance with the COVID-19 guidance at the time. Please make sure you are travelling in accordance with your current COVID-19 regulations. Visited 207/2824 sites whilst rambling around…

Ashby de la Zouch Castle . 🏰 Ashby-De-La-Zouch castle is a ruined fortification in the town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, England. . 🏰 The castle was built by William, Lord Hastings, a favourite of Edward IV, after 1473, accompanied by the creation of a 3,000-acre (1,200 ha) park. . 🏰 Constructed on the site of an older manor house, two large towers & various smaller buildings had been constructed by 1483, when Hastings was executed by Richard, Duke of Gloucester (King Richard III). . 🏰 The Hastings family used the castle as their seat for several generations, improving the gardens & hosting royal visitors. . 🏰 During the English Civil War of the 1640s, Henry, a younger son in the Hastings family, became a Royalist commander in the Midlands. He based himself out of the castle until he was forced to surrender it after a long siege. A fresh rebellion occurred in 1648, leading Parliament to slight the castle in order to prevent it being used militarily: the two towers were badly damaged with gunpowder & undermining. . 🏰 Parts of the remaining castle were turned into a new house & continued to be used by members of the Hastings family for many years, although they moved their main residence to Donington Hall. . . . #HistoricEngland #Heritage #crown #britishmonarchy #godsavethequeen #windsor #RoyalHistory #HistoryFacts #British #Historic #Instahistory #EnglishHeritage #HistoryFacts #History #castle #Castles #EnglishCastles #VisitEngland #England #EnglishCastle #Medieval #EnglishHistory #Ashbydelazouch #Ashbydelazouchcastle #Leicestershire #Royalists #LordHastings #Stronghold #englishcivilwar (at Ashby de la Zouch Castle) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4-Fm_FAeSU/?igshid=jeu4mrb1hi66

Welcome to this medieval castle started in 1138 by a Norman Lord. I’m 1330 it became the home of Queen Isabella also known as the She wolf. She deposed her husband King Edward the second but was later overthrown by her Son king Edward lll. It has been a shoal, Constabulary and one person lunatic asylum. King Henry Vlll gave this castle to the Howard family (he married Catherine Howard) and it remains in their name today. The site is run by English Heritage and half price for the next couple of weeks as it has restricted visiting areas currently #castlerisingcastle #kingslynn #norfolk #canam #ryker #uktravel #triumph #motorbikes #riding #canamchicuk #canamgirluk #sober_bumblebee #positive.livingwithfibro #womenonroad #ridefrehe #history #englishcastles https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ3bCQ_LPqE/?utm_medium=tumblr

Amazing Castle from @historicalbritain Dunstanburgh Castle, England. - Due to it's remote location amongst the rugged, sea battered ancient Northumberland coastline, Dunstanburgh Castle has got to be in the running for one of the most beautiful aswell as one of the most photogenic castles in all of Britain. A highly popular site for photographers and painters such as JMW Turner, Dunstanburgh certainly rarely fails to deliver beauty and inspiration as it juts out into the wild North Sea. Due to the castles remoteness however the nearest car park is infact a few miles away in the small town of Craster. Luckily for anyone willing to walk the distance to the castle though because the walk up the natural coastline is astonishingly captivating and well worth every bit of the potentially muddy journey. The castle remains still seen today were first built in 1313 on thr orders of 14th century Englands most powerful and wealthy men, Earl Thomas of Lancaster. During his second rebellion against King Edward II, Thomas would be captured following defeat at the battle of Boroughbridge in 1322 after failing to retreat north to Dunstanburgh. Humiliation followed for Thomas as he was executed by beheading within the walls of the massive Pontefract Castle in Yorkshire, a castle he actually owned. The castle would next see major action during the bloody Wars of the Roses as it was used as a Lancastrian stronghold in the North, sufferring from two separate Yorkist seiges in the process. . . Fun Facts!💡 • The interior of the castle covered an area so immense that much of the land inside would remain unused throughout it's life. . • In 1940, after the threat of invasion from Nazi Germany increased dramatically with the fall of Norway, the castle was integrated into Britain's North East coastal defences. . . . #historicalbritain #freetourguide #englishheritage #dunstanburghcastle #dunstanburgh #northumberland #europeancastle #castlesofinstagram #castlesofeurope #englishcastles #englishhistory #castles #castle #visitnorthumberland #northumberlandcoast #northumberland_pics #visitengland #historicengla https://www.instagram.com/p/B9g2NkFgIVC/?igshid=1bppilxcwb63z
