lip’s phone rings a little past three in the morning, the ringtone he set specially for you so he wouldn’t miss your calls. he rolls over, hand searching in the mess of sheets for his phone until he finds it and swipes to answer your call before it goes to voicemail.

lip hears chatter and faint music on the other end of the line and he vaguely remembers you telling him about a big sorority event this week, but he’d only been half listening, his brain focused more on his engineering homework.

“baby? ‘s real late,” he says groggily. “whatcha need?”

“liiiiiip,” you say, and lip can tell you’re drunk. “i’m at kap sig… i think.” you giggle, and despite his worry lip smiles at the sound.

“you need me to come get you?” he hums, already out of bed and pulling on a pair of sweats. his feet find a pair of sandals he knows he shouldn't be wearing in early march, but he strides towards the door nonetheless and takes his keys from the hook.

"yes please! 's me, sarah, an' my babyyy!!! say hiiii katy!" the line crackles a bit as you hold out your cell and katy cheers "hiiiii y/n's boyfriend!"

lip notices the sharp chill in the air, and hums softly as he unlocks his car door. "are you cold?" he asks you, neck craning towards the backseat for a second to check for a jacket. in the same second, he manages the key into the ignition, so the moment he turns back toward the windshield he can crank it and go.

"noooo! was all sweaty in there, feels good outside."

"good, that's good baby," his phone beeps against his shoulder nd her frowns. "hey, uh, my battery's low. i'm gonna hang up, but you just stay put m'kay?"

"oookaaayyyy," you say, with a sweet giggle at the end. "bye bye!"

a final beep! signifies you've hung up, and in the silence lip finds himself urging the gas pedal down harder. he turns a couple of corners, pulls into an apartment lot, and turns his hazards on while he slows to a mere crawl. partygoers stumble around the lot and his eyes search for you, finally spotting you in the corner. a very drunk sarah sits at your feet, and you're dancing with a girl he assumes is katy.

he rolls slowly up to the curb, slides down his window, and hangs out with a grin. "hey sarah! can you get my girl f'me?"

sarah grins when she recognizes lip, and she leans backwards towards you. "hey!" she tugs at your jacket. "lip's here, c'mon help me up."

you and katy lift sarah up, and the two girls clamber into the backseat while you slide into the front. lip watches you shut the door, reaching out and brushing away the lipstick smudge on your chin. you turn around, a starstruck grin on your face. you blush and accept the kiss he plants on your cheek before focusing on getting out of the apartment lot. "buckle up baby," he mumbles, and squeezes your thigh after shifting the car into drive.

After the not so great encounter earlier, Optimus takes it upon himself to cheer you up.

The sound of your phone ringing catches your attention and as you lift it up you see, that it's Optimus calling you.

Pulse rising you pick up with the usual 'hello' as a greeting.

"My sincerest apologies for contacting you this late but would you mind walking over to the main hangar?"

"Eh, sure no problem. Why though?"

Fidgeting with a pen you listen to his answer.

"After today I wish to drive somewhere with you."

"Just you an I?", you ask, letting the pen fall onto the floor.

"As long as the idea does not arise negative feelings in you."

You nod, realizing he couldn't see you.

"Of course!", you answer a little too excited.

"I'll be there in a minute."

"I will meet you there then."

He hangs up the call and you could hear your fast pulse in your ears.

Quickly getting into your winter clothing, you walk outside to where the Prime was already waiting in his truck form.

The driver's door opens, inviting you to get in.

Carefully you do so, unsure whether to close the door yourself.

It closes on it's own, the warmth of the cabin welcoming you.

"It will be a 20 minute drive. If you wish to remove your winter coat you can place it next to you onto the passenger's seat.", Optimus's voice echoes over the radio.

You remove your coat, keeping it in your kap though.

"Now please fasten the seatbelt.", he says and you do as you're told.

The engine starts with a loud rumble, the vehicle setting in motion, leaving the base.

The first few minutes of the drive are silent.

Desperate to break the silence you speak up.

"If I may ask, where are we going exactly?"

"I wish to keep it a surprise."

You nod, again realizing that he CANNOT SEE YOU.

"That's fine."

Another moment of silence before he turns to speak.

"How are you feeling?"

"After what happened today?"

The Prime hums.

"Pretty awful to be honest. It was scary. But you saved me. I wanna thank you for that."

"I deemed it necessary to take action."

You chuckle. "Never thought I'd see you hit someone square in the face like that."

"I deemed it necessary.", he repeats.

"If negotiation cannot get me far..."

"You'll throw hands.", you finish his sentence after noticing he couldn't find the words to do so himself.

Ten minutes later he stops and you get into your wanr coat again.

The door opens and you get out, careful not to slip.

Before you stretched an entirely frozen lake. Tge light of the setting sun colored the ice in purple and orange. Mesmerized by the sight you don't notice the shifting behind you. Only when Optimus stands beside you in his mass displaced form you connect the dots.

He was still a head taller than you in this form.

"Now, what's your plan, Prime?", you ask, hands on your hips.

"Teaching you in how to keep your balance on the ice."

Eyes widening you look up at him.

"Wh-now?! Why?"

"Because you deserve to enjoy yourself, which you were not able to do today. I am here to change that if you allow me to."

He extends his servo, which you grab hesitantly.

He nods, slowly guiding you down onto the ice

"I don't think this is a good idea.", you mumble doubting the whole situation.

"I am here with you. Holding no ill intentions."

"I know.", you respond, holding onto his arms for dear life.

"Let's do this then.", you try to convince yourself that this not end in a total desaster.

After a few initial rounds of tumbling and falling once, you got quite the hang of it.

Certainly you couldn't move across the ice as gracefully as Prime, but it could be worse.

"You are improving."

"Because you are patient with me Optimus.", you admit.

"Pressuring you would not prove to be of advantage. I let you take all the time you need and be patient."

Taking a deep breath, you brace yourself for what you were saying next.

"And that's why I love you Optimus.", you blurt out.

"There I said it."

His eyes widen for a mere moment, before his gaze relaxes, looking at you with nothing but love.

"Wait, don't tell me you feel the same?!"

"How could I not feel love for you? From the few people on earth accepting us, you are the most welcoming. Every aspect of you is something I admire greatly, and I wish to learn more about who you are."

I love making grammar and unique writing systems but I'm shit at making plausible vocabulary. do you have any advice?

uhh ok i'm really just a novice at conlanging, and this is a mess bc otherwise i'll never actually end up posting it post it but-

derivational morphology! take a root, add an affix, bam! new related word. stuff like "relate" and "relationship", or "big" and "biggest"

even if your lang doesn't have much morphology going on, what about loanwords? perhaps its borrowed a word from one language, and a similar (related) word from another.

k. an example. language A has the word [nita], which means "to catch" or "to grab". language B, which is in the same language family as A, has [nirə], which means "to fish" and is actually just A's [nita] with a century or two of sound and semantic shift! our language, C, could happily loan both of these in as individual words.

a more extreme example of this is english's "capture" and "have" - both come from proto-indo-european "*kap" (to seize/hold), but "have" came via proto-west-germanic "*habbjan", while "capture" came via latin "capiō + tūra".

oh! right. it's generally a bad idea to have a one-to-one correspondence with english translation to your language's word. i try to give at least a couple possible translations to get a vibe of the sorta thing it could mean. also worth baring in mind that a single word can cover several meanings. look at english's "run" (to run a cold, to run a tap, to run away, to run a program, a running engine, etc) for an idea of the sorta extremes you could have if you want.

i've been sitting on this draft for ages (sorry!) and honestly have no idea how to continue it. here's a good video for this sorta stuff - he explains it much better than me.

an important one is to have consistent phonotactics going on - what sounds exist in your language? are there any places where certain sounds aren't valid? (eg. english's /ŋ/ (ng) is only valid at the end of words (mostly), bc it came from [ng] -> [ŋg] -> [ŋ]. ng was only valid at the end of words, so /ŋ/ is too. your lang will feel much more realistic with consistent phonotactics.

sidenote of above: loanwords will generally be made to fit the phonotactics of the language they're being loaned into. spanish "taco" /tako/ is a good example - english doesn't actually have any of those sounds, so tries to approximate it with /tʰɑkʰoʊ/ (or british english /tʰækʰəʊ/)

i think i'm gonna leave it here. hopefully you can make more sense of my thoughts than me, you find the post, and that something about this was helpful! probably the video more than anything else, since that has like. actual thought put into it. the other stuff on Lichen's channel is also very useful - i'd also reccommend Biblaridion and Artfexian's conlanging vids.
