I'm still seeing a lot of angry takes in the tags about how excessive Watcher's current costs are and how all fans really want, apparently, is "just shane and ryan sitting in a basement" back again. While I do think Watcher is probably spending over budget and that's a real issue, a lot of the takes I'm seeing show a fundamental misunderstanding of how video production works and where costs actually lie. So a few quick things that I just keep seeing that are bothering me:
It was never just Shane and Ryan in a basement. BFU did a great job selling that conceit and making sure you never saw anyone beyond them and maybe TJ, but they absolutely had other crew members with them on ghost hunts and they didn't do all the work on BFU themselves. This Q&A from Season 2 lists 36 people on staff for Buzzfeed Unsolved. It's fair to make arguments that Watcher may or may not need 25 people, but those arguments should not be coming from a place of "before it was just Shane and Ryan and nobody else."
If you don't know how many people are needed to make a professional video from a TV/film standpoint, you will not have a reasonable grasp of why Watcher wants to keep 25 people on staff. Sure, some YouTubers get by with a ring light and a contracted editor. The Watcher team have stated repeatedly that they do not want to work as just YouTubers and see themselves more as a production studio—so why do people keep referencing the YouTube model to understand their business? This is like asking the local shake shop why it doesn't function like the kids' lemonade stand down the block. The item category is similar but they're not trying for the same products or process.
The "gold dusted food" is not the big budget sink you think it is. On most TV shows I've worked on it's normal to partner with businesses that are shown onscreen and work out a deal where the price of the product (in this case the gold food) is reduced or eliminated in exchange for the free publicity. Watcher very likely made a deal with every restaurant it worked with to make the Korea trip affordable for the company. The real budget spends are on things you're probably not seeing but that still matter: camera and lighting equipment is expensive, insurance for that equipment is expensive, business overhead and paying your staff are expensive. So again—it's fine to critique Watcher for the streaming plan and the perceived budgetary issues, but go into this knowing the costs might not be coming from the things you see onscreen.
My source is that I work in TV and film and actually have a clue on how the industry functions. Again, 36 people worked on Unsolved (and those were the people mention in Season 2—who knows how big the team blew up past that in later seasons). Entertainment work is real work, and demands decent equipment, competent staff, and the same types of business and budget problems you'd find in any other business (overhead, staffing, etc.). Feel free to critique Watcher's business model, but first try to understand where that model is coming from and what goals it's attempting to serve.

OK, so good news(?); either the temple is so dilapidated that it isn't worth taxing (considering its in a part of the city that's so old the modern city is built on top of it: fair) or else Durge will be going to jail for tax evasion... Oh dear, it looks like it's time for the apocalypse! What a shame that will interfere with the court date!
Also they seem to expect the bank to still be standing once they're done razing the city and they are a fucking terrible employer:
Player: "Fine. I'll open an account." Head Clerk Meadhoney: "Splendid! New coin and customers always welcome. We need only settle the matter of Waukeen's Wage." Player: "I've recently come into a large estate. Could I sign it against that as a guarantee instead?" Head Clerk Meadhoney: "Naturally. We serve the Gate's oldest families - not all have cash in hand. What kind of establishment would we be if we saw value in coin alone? Could you provide the address of your property?" Player: "It's in the Undercity." Head Clerk Meadhoney: "Oh, by the Coinmaiden! How, er, quaint. And the name of the manor?" Player: "Erm, the Bhaal Temple." Head Clerk Meadhoney: "Is that B-H-A-A-L or B-A-L-L?" Player: "Bhaal. As in, the Lord of Murder." Head Clerk Meadhoney: "Silly me - of course! Let me check our records..." Head Clerk Meadhoney: "I'm afraid your estate is not registered on the Sword Coast customs censuses - have you been paying your mansion taxes? Or perhaps it isn't valued highly enough to be above the threshold." Player: "It is an illustrious household. We employ paid help!" Narrator: *You wonder how many years ago it was you last gave Sceleritas so much as a table scrap of your dinner, let alone any paycoin.*
Hey, he's a fiend! He has no biological needs to pay for, and I dread to think what he'd spend money on.
And more of Durge being a hilariously entitled brat:
Player: "The indignity! I'm heir to one of the oldest families in this city!" Head Clerk Meadhoney: "Then why not bring the gold for the account? Father not given out your allowance yet?"
Good question!
BHAAL. WHERE THE FUCK IS MY POCKET MONEY.
That said, I don't think Bhaal has ever had estate in the city whose existence he predates and I don't think that they have any claim on the Anchev's stuff (assuming they weren't nouveau-riche). Then again, the temple is technically Bhaal's house, has been there forever, and as a god he does outrank the nobility, so... they're kind of right?
"I am a god and an honorary Patriar, you peasants."
Player: "Fool! I will soon hold the treasures of the world over, as all tremble in stricken awe." Head Clerk Meadhoney: "Do come back when you do!"

AU where instead of trying to mark Jon with every fear, Elias decides he needs to hire an avatar from each fear and employ them in the archives. Nobody knows of this plan at first except Elias himself. Jon goes back to work after Jane's attack on the institute only to descend the steps to find that she's still there, in clearly-new yet moderately-disheveled office attire, trying to see if she can somehow hide a worm in the company coffee machine.

I had the really dumb thought that jack would wake up and Dave is Just There, but also wrapped around him like a fucking boa constrictor. Jack just shows up to work one day with a still sleeping dave clinging on to him and hes just like "sorry phoney, but theres nothing i can do about this. He wasnt there when i went to sleep and he was when i woke up. If you want to pry him off of me then be my guest, but hes already bitten me like 3 times."

very happy Matt decided to clarify his stance on the genocide of the Palestinian people rn. Pretty unhappy with the way he worded it, who he centered in his video, and disappointed to see the responses to it on Twitter.
kinda scared to even post about it bc CR fans can get so defensive about their favorite white people that they can often leave little room for criticism or nuance. but man I have thoughts.
#lemme just say. if you have a public platform that has set a precedent for philanthropic work. messages of positivity and love.#and have called attention to various political and social conflicts *in stream*. & whose employees and cast members are vocal#on socials about political topics#then it is NOT unreasonable for fans to expect them to address one of the deadliest orchestrated conflicts in recent history#a literal genocide is happening. thanks in part to the US.#it is good that they donated as a company and as individuals. so good!#but to everyone saying that publicizing good deeds like donations is virtue signaling or demanding CR cast to show their support is#or that activism shouldnt be all about what you post bc then it becomes performative#are kinda missing the point. and theyre not listening to palestinians at all#a huge issue with this conflict & the way its being received in the western world - ESPECIALLY the US bc of its partnership w israel -#is the sheer amount of disgusting minsinformation and propaganda convincing ppl this genocide is either not that bad or that its necessary#everyday citizens CANNOT change foreign policy. we cant do anything!#so what have Palestinians been asking us to do?? SPREAD AWARENESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA. MAKE PEOPLE AWARE. UPLIFT PALESTINIAN VOICES. SHARE LINKS#SHOW PPL THE TRUTH.#and yes its hard! its difficult to watch what theyre going thru. but we HAVE to.#i didnt rlly like matts statement. he said he didnt have the spoons to engage in the discourse. which i get. god i get it.#but ive also seen many many creators/influencers who are also disabled or whose families are directly involved gather their spoons to help#and no one was asking CR to harm themselves in the name of helping palestine. we only wanted them to spread awareness#bc the comments on their tweet about finally donating were full of mostly white centrist takes not able to see any benefit to donating or#addressing the issue at all. which is EXACTLY why CR should addresss it. bc they can reach so many who dont understand#but theyd been radio silent for almost 5 months. i didnt like that he didnt really apologize. i didnt like that he centered himself#i didnt like his lowkey flippant language either. saying all that.. ridiculousness in regards to a genocide not well worded.#but i dont feel right holding that against him. should he have thought it through better? sure but i get it#& unfortunately his parting message left a bad taste in my mouth - one of positivity & self care & hugging each other#nice important words but it didnt feel like he was talking about ppl who are affected by this conflict. but rather ppl who are watching#it just felt like a very white thing to say in response to this. we are not burdened and easily victimized bc of it#we are responsible. and so we must center palestinians.#if i were him i wldnt have gone in detail about how hard the palestinian genocide is for me to watch.#but thats just me#*CORRECTION: radio silent for almost 4 months

Hey y'all! Incredibly weird question for you: If a contractor sends you receipts for reimbursement by forwarding you an email from a city official from a city that's not the city the receipts are from. And the receipts are fake. Is there like...a specific city department to report the employee sending falsified receipts from their official work email? Does it make it better or worse that the receipts are completely unrelated to their job with the city? Do I call the HR department?????

tom saying he wants to talk to gerri about keeping her job implies mostly that gerri is/will be staying on at waystar but like. the thought i’m having is do we know for sure that’s a real thing? is gerri suddenly chill with staying just because roman is gone? would she choose to work for tom, a guy her respect for is like uhhhh …. mediocre at best? was she always going to stay no matter what? or does tom just think she’s staying on because he has no idea she is actively on her way out due to a beautiful sexual misconduct litigation and two subsequent firings?

[hc.] It was a surprise having it implied it's Fizz who handles Ozzie schedule, instead of the other way around. But this also shows that Ozzie trusts Fizz judgment - as well as views him as an equal partner.
Fizz isn't stupid, sheltered yes, but not stupid.
And if somebody knows Asmodeus day well - not to mention there as much lovers as well as business partners, so there are probably certain things he can take on for the day instead of Ozzie, if his own schedule allows it.
This also makes me belive Fizzarolli has faaarr more control over Ozzie's (the club) - this hc is nothing new, but I think he has full control of the entertainment and who performs inside. Yes, Ozzie certainly has too but FIzz is the entertainer out of the two of them, he is the host - it's HIS job to keep their customers happy and pleased. Sure Ozzie can overwrite Fizz decision and I'm pretty sure they actually plan things out together.
But I can see it being more on Fizz, taking work of the sins hands as he seems to be just as busy with other endeavors in his ring.
..but maybe its not surprising, if you consider Ozzie's is built like a circus tent.
