Bearded emperor tamarin (Saguinus imperator subgrisescens)
This tiny, tiny tamarin is found in the wet forests where Brazil and Peru border each other. They eat fruit, flowers, fungus, and tree sap- but they’re apparently too lazy to dig their own holes in trees, so they wait for a different species to do it for them!

Heyyy long time no post! I've been making things, I just got behind on tumblr. DtB is coming up soon and I have a lot to make. Speaking of DtB, that's what these little guys are a preview for! Not for Ecosystem... no, these curious little monkeys are for the tree! They are so excited to climb around the branches and see all the other ornaments.
(Their true ornament versions are the proper 100px, but I like to show my stuff in 150px because it's a bit more detailed.)

Animal of the Day!
Emperor Tamarin (Saguinus imperator)
Tumblr media
(Photo from Buttonwood Park Zoo)
Conservation Status- Least Concern
Habitat- South America
Size (Weight/Length)- 453 g; 25 cm
Diet- Fruit; Nectar; Leaves; Insects
Cool Facts- With that ‘stache it’s clear why emperor tamarins are the king of their domain. These tiny monkeys live in small groups led by the oldest individual being either female or male. Extremely chatty, the emperor tamarin can project its voice 150 meters away, that’s pretty small for a 25 centimeter long monkey. While breeding is based on how much food is around, a single female generally has several litters a year. Almost always having twins, the baby tamarins cling to their mother’s back until they are completely weened. Other emperor tamarins in their group will help to carry the babies while the mother feeds and males, often not the father, will actively seek out the babies to carry around.
Rating- 13/10 (Might you twirl your moostache at me, good sir?)

I was googling pictures of Emperor Tamarins and I notice in a LOT of them they're sticking out their tongues! And they're LONG! Is there any reason why they do thay?
They're so silly I love them so much X3c
Yes, great observation!
Tumblr media
Marmosets and tamarins get a large portion of their diet from nectar and their long tongues help them reach it! They also apparently flick their tongues as a territorial display (which might be why so many photos feature the tongue) which is news to me since I had never worked with them before.

What Love Says… Unlearning and Learning Love
As a playful loving creator who chooses, prefers and feels, allowing experiences to open inner doors of curiosity and new ways to be. With faith and love believing by choice your hearts desire, a spark of creation begins to dance within.
With loving curiosity, unlearn, unpack, feelings and beliefs held in your heart choosing to explore new ways, in doing so you spark preferences which fire your creativity into action.
All experiences learned and unlearned with love, excitement and a deep trust of your inner truth will generate new potentials.
To learn and unlearn is likened to contraction and expansion, of breath, and of bellows pushing air toward a fire making sparks of love fly from belief, trust and choice you ignite opportunities to evolve with an open heart.
Love, here, now, always within, always excited, always dancing and playing you choose to create, inspire and burn bright with loving curiosity.
Self mastery is being curious about life, love, all experiences and feelings embrace everything with conscious awareness, you remember the power within your heart that was always there. Unlearn to learn–explore to discover.

I'm not a fan of primates after going to Longleat as a child and the monkeys (don't know what species, it's one of my earliest memories) were really fucking up people's cars, taking off windscreen wipers and peeling bits off, and I thought it was really rude. My mum told me that it's because they don't know what cars are and I said "but cars drive through all the time, they should know what they are by now!"
Anyway, yeah, not my favourite animal group. But! This little guy is just SO cute. The moustache!!! Wonderful!

ummm do u have anything to say about emperor tamarins? like fun facts or anything in general rly. i saw some at a zoo a while ago and i remember just. looking into their kind little eyes and totally falling in love... i wish to know more
Tumblr media
Emperor Tamarins often give birth to twins, but occasionally triplets and single young
Adult males assist with the birth, taking the newborn immediately and washing it.
The mother will carries and feeds the babies for about 30 minutes every 2-3 hours. Otherwise, the males carry and care for the infants.
It takes them 16-20 months to reach maturity
Their lifespan tends to max out at 20
Family groups usually include one breeding female and two breeding males. Breeding females will mate with all breeding males in the group.
Luckily, their conservation status is currently Least Concern

Tamarins have claws, not fingernails
It is believed that emperor tamarins were named after German emperor Wilhelm II.
