For your wip prompts the drummer!hob/dancer!dream <<3
Thanks anon! Dealer's choice for the softness, so I rolled 1d10+1d20 and got 24. pet names.
This is actually a scene I have wanted to write, so this works out perfectly. Original fic is here.
"I have been meaning to ask," Morpheus rolls over in their shared bed and runs his fingers behind Hob's ear, "why do you call me your Dream? Not that I mind, but..."
The vardo rumbles gently beneath them, a comforting vibration as they continue to trek across the Southern Wastes. Once Hob had recovered his meager personal effects and said farewell to a few friends amongst Lemark's caravan, he had come back to Morpheus' wagon... and had not yet left. It is nearing lunch time.
It had only taken a few hours, starting just before dawn, for this clan to break camp. Morpheus had only had to make a quick appearance, note that everything was in order, and then they were off. Out the open front windows Hob can see the backs of the two giant elk pulling this wagon along, can hear the rhythmic huffs of their breathing even in the back of the vardo.
Hob lifts himself up onto one elbow and looks down at Morpheus, his Dream. He can feel just a tinge of embarrassment crawl up his neck - Hob has never been known for his ability to take things slow, to act in moderation. He tries to hide his bit of shame by taking Morpheus' hand and nuzzling into his palm, holding it to his face. "When we were performing Death... I didn't know your name, but you... dancing there, perfectly in tune with me, you moved like something out of my dreams." He tries to shrug it off, quite sure that it is another flavor of his usual too much. "Silly really."
But when he musters the courage to look back to his lover all he can see is Morpheus' wide blue eyes and a blush rising like a summer dawn across his cheekbones. "No," his voice is soft and a little awed, "not silly at all." He traces Hob's eyebrow with one fingertip. "I only wish I could return the favor."
Hob cannot contain the joyous laugh that bubbles up. He rolls his Dream under him and pins bony wrists to the pillow above an absolute riot of black hair. "But I heard you calling me all sorts of names all last night, dove..." He says each name with heavy breaths in between kisses planted on Morpheus' jaw and neck and collarbones. "You called me oooh and ah! and yes! and pleeeeaaase and more!! and uuuuuunnnnnngggh."
By the end Morpheus is outright laughing, deep heaving ungainly cackles that Hob is shocked haven't startled the elk. "Enough! Enough! You are a menace, that is what I should call you!"
Hob presses their foreheads together. "You can call me anything you like, my Dream. As long as it means yours."

Drow Name Tables
Something I did as a special favor to @kimmurielsscryingmirror (@eldritchmist ) who showed interest. Because it’s...pretty big I decided to make it into it’s own post.
These are a few Drow naming tables that were originally found in an issue of Dragon Magazine. It’s two d100 tables of prefixes and suffixes commonly used in first names. The second couple of tables is a list of common house name prefixes and suffixes.
EDIT: Just a little something for those who care which I didn’t add before because it took me so long to finish the transcription I just wanted to post it lol. The gender difference is noted in the related Dragon Magazine article as being significant. Non Drow may not notice but a Drow will notice the difference. Female names sometimes borrow parts that are normally only considered male and this is considered fine...but a male with a name that borrows a typically only female part would be seen as extremely taboo.

When the theater department is down on it’s luck and has to bring in record breaking sales at the end of the school year in order to garner sponsors or else they’ll be defunded, the lead invites a few dance majors to practice one Saturday morning. One volunteers his class to fill in for the ensemble just to see a smile. It all leads to two semesters of chaos in putting together a student written and composed musical, drama amongst friend groups, and a dance major falling in love with a set designer.

I finally drew my kintype! It took some time to find what felt right, but I'm happy with the result. I'm not sure what kind of dragon I am outside of being a feathered one, so if anyone more versed in dragonology can identify my kintype I'd appreciate it!
My kintype is cold blooded, with birdlike feet to grab prey and perch on branches. Building dens in caves feels right; as I've made dens since I was a little kid. My kintype is an omnivore, my main diet being berries, fish, certain plants, and the occasional deer or elk. My ideal environment is a temperate forest with mountains and rivers.
My kintype doesn't do much roaring; they live in large groups called clans and communicate mainly through birdlike chirps and squeaks. They are very social creatures, with a high regard for their clan. They build large burrows (like rabbits) and have different rooms set aside for different things. Some are dedicated to food storage, while some are used as community nests.
That's as far as I've gotten at this point, hope you have a great day fellow otherkins!

could you please do a Hc for Frédéric to get to know him a little, for example his character..., I like the fact that he looks like Kawa and Kota😎👍
Tumblr media
Frederick was the most laid back and easygoing baby of the pack
Never really cried unless he was hungry and preferred to sleep in his basket or on one of the ninken to being rocked to sleep
He did like crawling into their laps for cuddles though
Bees terrified him as a baby
He took a liking to his mother’s taiko and would copy the rhythm she would use. This became a regular occurrence until he was able to memorize them and make his own
As he grew, his vibrant and compassionate personality started peeking through and set him apart from his shyer older siblings
If there was dancing, he was in the middle of it; showing off and getting the other kids to dance too
Usually his grandmother Ebba or some wallflower of his choosing were his dance partners, but he’d occasionally would cut between his parents to dance with his mom too
He was the recipient of a wolf pups that he named Heofon. She’s his pride and joy 🥹
He would serenade the ninken has they all took baths in the river (Wolfgang found it easier to bathe the boys and dogs at the same time 💀)
As a teen he was rather notorious for having the habit of jumping rooftop to rooftop barefooted, his jovial demeanor, risk taking, great dancing (ofc), and hunting skills
Always helped his father butcher the meat for his mother (partially because it got him praise for being a good kid but also his mom was always cooking something and would let him sample the food before everyone else for helping)
He was in direct competition with Asahi in academics and tracking. He knew his older brother naturally more gifted in those areas, but it didn’t stop him from trying to keep up
Him and Kuri use to argue a lot as little kids over dumb things, but got closer as teens and are each others best friends
He brings Mika and Sena hang with the older guys so they could learn the ropes and stop clinging to their mother’s apron
Always helped Leonie braid her hair (even if he complained about it)
Reluctantly took Elke and Arashi on his ninken whenever he somehow got stuck with little kid babysitting duty
Although he was still lively, he mellowed out again in his early adulthood and took up tradesmen as occupation
Heofon is his wingwoman and gets the best cuts of meat for being such a good girl
He usually has to pay extra for passage on ships with her tho
He’s still the barefooted life of any party after a drink or two
Which lead to him traveling quite a lot and meeting many new people both old and young that he considers life long friends
He always made sure to write his family regularly when he was away and stock up on gifts for them
He was the first of their children to see the land of fire, which he highly recommended they his siblings stay away from
The main Inuzuka clan were nice and their Uchiha relatives seem to be doing well, but it’s far from a peaceful place in his opinion and he can see why their parents left it behind.

map for my story, featuring full color and Clan borders! I've been having a lot of fun with this. Please send any questions in asks, I would love to talk about it!
Notes under cut
setting is the Colorado Rockies but obviously I have made up everything here
this is kind of a side view so that you can see mountains better so you can't see a lot of Blizzard's plains. Off to the right is what the cats call a "town" because they haven't seen one, it's really a couple ranches that have cats at them.
A lot of the place names are possessive (e.g. Eagle's Meadow) which means they're named after important members of the Clans' history.
Storm has a bigger territory than Blizzard, mostly due to access - Blizzard has more plains off to the east and is obstructed by mountains to the west, though they're expanding in that direction.
Neither territory is big. I am not good with scale but it's not meant to look like a ton of acreage: this is because the cats face heavy predation, with the woods full of almost every large North American carnivore you could think of. The clans are both small in population.
The unclaimed land from Cloud's Tooth to Sky's Heart will probably remain unclaimed and serves as a sort of political buffer. It's also just not great land. No one wants the freakin' Tempest Drop, and Thunder Ridge is very dangerous too.
You'll notice there is no designated sacred place of worship. StarClan is unlike canon in my story, which I may go into later. StormClan is extremely pious, but BlizzardClan doesn't care all that much because they have a lower rate of clairvoyants. Storm cats travel to the summit of the Cloud's Tooth to prove themselves as a Prophet, because they're extra. And, you know, the Stars will not let you survive the journey if you're not worthy, which can be interpreted however you want! Maybe your Prophet-to-be was just not a good hiker!
Besides the ranch "Human Town" to the east, and the long-abandoned Thunder Ridge, there is no human intervention in the area for many miles. Thunder Ridge, a steep backbone of boulders with not enough switchbacks, proved to be too dangerous (three guesses how) for humans after a tragic accident, and the trail was closed.
Lots of elk in the Colorado Rockies! The Clans respect elk and consider it a great honor that their river is named after the large and majestic animals. This would be flattering for elk if they knew about it, probably.

buckle up folks, its a long one
the Hatake turn into an animal during puberty, any animal and any Hatake-by-blood. after 24 hours, they turn human again and can then form contracts with bonded animals of their type.
adoption by blood is the Hatake's most coveted jutsu, though entirely unknown by other clans. the adopted lack the Hatake white chakra, but their children will have it!
Kakashi turns into a samoyed dog and this sparks great joy for Team Minato. this is why he has a bunch of dogs.
Sakumo is an arctic gray wolf and could bond with Fire Country's wolf packs.
Orochimaru is a blue coral snake. he adopted Anko, who is a boomslang snake, as well as his other kids; Kimimaro is a pangolin, Suigetsu is a leopard seal, Jugo is a tiger, and Karin is a giant river otter
Touka is a grizzly bear. she has several sun bear friends just to freak out the Senju elders.
Tobirama is a clouded leopard, and specifically took on missions to new places to look for leopards of different kinds, along with Touka for cousin-sibling bonding time!
if Kakashi starts using the blood adoption jutsu on his friends/students, well... that's clan business.
Sasuke turns into a nightjar! Itachi is a crow (obvs), and Shisui is a raven.
now, Kakashi didn't adopt Shisui. Shisui is Kagami's grandson, and Kagami was adopted by Tobirama, meaning Shisui has the Hatake white chakra! Kagami is a magpie.
Naruto becomes a maned wolf, which... well. Kakashi helps him find as many bush dogs and falkland wolves as possible, but they're rather rare critters.
Sakura becomes a lynx. she enjoys scaring the shit out of people with her calls.
Genma becomes a Komodo dragon, Hayate is a raccoon, Yugao a stoat
Sai is a burrowing owl, Iruka is an hourglass dolphin, Izumo is a sea eagle, and Kotetsu is a leopard shark.
Ino becomes a secretary bird, Shikamaru turns into an elk, and Choji is a giant salamander
Asuma is a gecko, Kurenai is a mocking bird, Tsunade is a bison, and Tenten is a porcupine!
Kiba is a borzoi and Hana is a newfoundlander
Hinata is a flemish giant rabbit and Neji is a badger

Elven cuisine Headcanons
High Elves:
Haute Cuisine, but make it 🍁𝓬𝓸𝓽𝓽𝓪𝓰𝓮𝓬𝓸𝓻𝓮🍁
...at least, that's how a lot of humans would describe it, for lack of better words.
Pretty-looking dishes that are served in small proportions. Anyone who is still hungry after a 'normal' ration can repeat: High elf families who invite people of other races for brunch tend to already be used to their guests asking for refills.
Mainly vegetarian: Lots of leaves, fruits, roots, seeds, flowers and even bark from edible trees, as well as fungi. If a plant is edible and can be harvested without risk, it will be in the menu.
That is not to say that high elves don't eat meat, though their idea of what's game and what's not can be very culturally different from another race or even another clan: Some high elves might abstain from eating deer or elk because they are seen as sacred in their clan, while some humans might find the idea of froghemoth terrine "disgusting".
Wood Elves:
Cuisine is a reflection of someone's culture, and with wood elves said culture is one of respect for nature. Veggies tend to be foraged rather than grown in a farm.
"Agriculture" and "wood elf" are words that are very rarely in the same sentence, and their food reflects that. Their traditional bread and other baked goods use wild grain instead of wheat.
When meat is consumed, it is based on whatever animals are necessarily hunted, and when that happens, no part of the animal is wasted: Offal and organ meat is cooked and eaten in a variety of ways, and bones are used for stock. If you are gonna eat an animal, then honor its sacrifice by using it all.
Wood elven dishes are the polar opposite of high elves': Little thought is given to a meal's visual presentation, what's important is to make it hearty and delicious.
Dark Elves:
Drow cuisine is one that was very much shaped by the Underdark and what few things are edible and easily harvested in such a hard place.
Mushrooms and edible fungi in general are prevalent: Mushroom stew, mushroom pie, mushroom bread, even mushroom wine! (That last one is canon!)
Some Underdark monsters are hunted for their meat. The Cave Fisher and the Darkmantle in particular are considered delicacies.
"Spider eater" is a derogatory slur sometimes used against dark elves. In truth, Lolth-sworn dark elves see eating spiders or killing spiders in general as highly blasphemous. It is the surface-born Seldarine drow population the ones to actually partake in the consumption of spider meat, and that's something they only started doing precisely to give Lolth the middle finger and then continued doing because, as it turns out, it is a good protein source that doesn't actually taste bad at all, thank you very much.
Surface drow cuisine is marked by a cultural need to replicate the flavors found in Underdark as best as possible using what's available to them. Expect a lot of spices, algae, shellfish, some bugs and, yes, lots and lots of mushrooms.

Hey, since cloning technology is good enough for them to create mammoth meatballs but not the entire mammoth yet, which prehistoric animal do you feel like taking a bite of?
Given where I was born, and where @dduane and I currently live, I think some Giant Irish Elk venison would be about right.
Tumblr media
Enough for the entire clan with plenty of leftovers and a Handy Thing To Hang Stuff From.
*****
Which leads via Memory Lane to a funny by John M. Ford, who used to post such things - along with witticisms, wise observations and poetry - on Making Light.
He produced these in the same way a bonfire produces sparks: random, unexpected, brilliant and without apparent effort - though like the graceful swan on the river, I bet there was a lot of work going on out of sight. Or maybe not. Mike was that good.
For instance, he wrote THIS just to comment on another post...
I saved everything I could find offline because You Can Never Tell about online stuff, and also because there was, for a time, doubt - happily, It Got Better - that ANY of his writing would ever be seen again.
(Dammit, just like Terry Pratchett I HATE having to refer to Mike in past tense...)
And now, the funny (original archived Here). I've been assured that This Recipe Will Work, though the assurance also came with a strong suggestion about reducing the ingredient quantities More Than Somewhat.
*****
Hot Gingered Pygmy Mammoth & Jumbo Shrimp Salad
Feeds your whole tribe.
1 pygmy mammoth, boned and cubed (about 1 ton) 1 ton jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined (many many ordinary shrimps, or one Ebirah claw) 10 buckets sesame seeds 60 pounds bean thread noodles if you are an Eastern tribe, whatever your tribe uses for noodles otherwise. If you have not yet invented the noodle, this might be a good time to do so. 1 bucket vegetable oil 1 bucket sesame oil Salt 10 buckets minced fresh ginger 6 buckets minced garlic 15 buckets dry Sherry 15 buckets rice wine vinegar 60 pounds sugar 60 buckets diced fresh mangoes 15 buckets chopped green onions Big Snorgul's helmet full of red pepper flakes 10 buckets chopped fresh cilantro, plus 5 Big Snorgul's helmets fresh cilantro, garnish 1000 large heads lettuce, cored and leaves separated (a raid on the People Who Grow Stuff may be necessary) 30 buckets thinly sliced, peeled, seeded, drained cucumbers, or just chop up the damn cucumbers and say "Fie to thee!" a lot All the chives you got
Preheat a giant turtle shell over a fumarole. A big giant turtle. Put some oil in there. Make sure no other giant turtles are around to see you do this.
On a flat rock, stirring with your Stick of the Dining God, dry cook the sesame seeds over medium heat until they are brown and smell good. Remove from the heat. Add the noodles to the turtle shell and fry fast until puffy and the color of sunrise. Remove from the oil and drain on non-itchy leaves. Throw salt. Set aside.
Sear the mammoth meat on the flat rock. Salt but don't overdo it, you remember what happened to the Chest-Clutching Tribe of the Plains. Drain.
Get a less giant turtle shell. Okay, think of this as a celebration dish for a good turtle hunt and shrimp catch. Make the vegetable oil and most of the sesame oil dance. Add the shrimp, mammoth, ginger, and garlic, and cook fast, stirring, until the shrimp are just pink and firm. Doom of Ten Thousand Wretched Canapés awaits those who overcook shrimp. Remove from the shell with pole weapons. Add the sherry and vinegar, and sing the Song of Deglazing over medium heat. Add the sugar and stir until it is one with the sauce. Cook until half the fluid is gone. Feed anybody who thinks this is waste to the giant turtles. Add the rest of the sesame oil, mangoes, green onions, and pepper flakes, and stir to warm through and wilt. No, this wilt is good. Tell the people it is the wilt of the Wilt God. You need all the mojo you can get. Remove from the heat and add the shrimp and ginger, and the cilantro. Stir to warm through and do the Highly Dramatic Ritual of Adjusting the Seasoning to Taste.
Now your tribal status is on the thin edge of the cleaver. Have everybody bring what they eat off of. You know your tribe. Put lettuce on whatever they hold out and spread the hot stuff on it. Those who have no eating platters should be used to the drill by now. Arrange cucumber slices on top in whatever symbolic pattern seems propitious to you and sprinkle with the toasted sesame seeds. If you have a really tough tribe, yell "Bam!" until they get a groove going. Add fried noodles, cilantro sprigs, and chives, and watch for any signs of people keeling over that can't be blamed on strong drink.

(im also thinking of making an alive lover for her someday ehehe)

Forr'est Pawson, winterfolk halfling ranger 🐾
Tumblr media
As a new addition to my dnd character practices, I bring you my second ever dnd character, the young and ambitious Forr'est Deep Wildfur Pawson from the Wildfur tribe.
He was born in the rigid and wild forests on the savage edges of Björnrike's snowy mountains in the north-east. Together with his twin sister, Cattoah were part of one of the leading families of the clan and the grew up happily in the Wildfur tribe lead by their uncle Chestag Wildfur.
As the young Forr'est grew, his time also came to prove himself alone in the wild and earn his mark of the tribe, a tattoo on the arm containing the words "Bestia virtute dirigit!/The power of the beast guides us!”. The winters are harsh and unforgiving in the great North, and Forr'est is grimly familiar with it as it took the twins' parents away from them. Food is scarce and the predators are way too hungry to back down from a fight.
As Forr'est tracked down a thin snow elk and had it in his aim, he noticed a female snowcat also slowly gaining on the same prey as he did. With the fear and determination to bring back home food and trophy of his hunt, he waited until the elk's killer blow was dealt by the huge snowcat and that is when the young halfling made his move on the predator. After the successful fight and preparation of the elk meat, snowcat skull and skins, he heard a little yelp in the underbushes of the snowy forest. There he found and injured and terribly hungry male snowcat cub, the fallen females lone offspring. Forr'est did not want to leave the poor cub alone in the winter and dooming it to a certain death, so together with the trophies and meat, he brought Bygul (named after the goddess Freya's cat), the young snowcat with him.
Bygul grew up to be one of the biggest snowcat males and became a trusted companion to the young ranger. After Forr'est earned his mark and with his wit and bravery he started gaining quite a lot of supporters as the potential heir to the clan leader, as the nephew of Chestag. This was definitely against the will of Macrow Wildfur, brother of Chestag, who found the young Forr'est too reckless and childish to even try to take the position instead of him. As the leader's health kept declining, the decision was made that the heir to the post will be determined on the next Fire Meeting, a celebration and tribe meeting happening every 4 years.
Half a year before the next tribe gathering, Forr'est and his sister Cattoah, accompanied by the steadily growing Bygul, departed towards Trollheim for Cattoah to pursue her bard passions the great island-city of Skaldholm. They promised to be back to the Fire Meeting and the twins said their first ever goodbyes to eachother as Cattoah boarded the ship towards the Bard school of Skaldholm.

🥁 7 or 27
Awww yiiiisss. More Drummer/Dancer AU. I am gonna take 27. markets for the prompt because it is actually perfect to help expand a few paragraphs I have been working on. So here it is, the opening section of the next fic in this series. (Yes, you read that correctly. You convinced me.)
"Does all this whispering and staring at us have a more edged feel to it than usual, or am I just going round the bend?" Hob says, leaning over from his place on his horse to speak privately with Morpheus, who is mounted on his own steed.
His lover scans the crowds as they continue down the main road into the central market. Most of the wagons in the caravan have set up camp just outside of the city, but they are bringing two into the square to display some of their wares, like Delirium's intricate lampworked glass and Epithumia's fine jewelry. But, as has been the case for months now, what will likely garner them the most coin will be Hob's drumming and, for the right price, Morpheus' dancing.
News of their little duet on that fateful night out in the Wastes has spread as only gossip can – faster than wildfire and twice as hot. Even as they enter Temenos, a nation Morpheus has never set foot in and Hob has last seen as a teenager, there are murmurs and mutterings of recognition in all but the most rural of hamlets. It is somewhat flattering and a whole lot disconcerting. Hob knows, hypothetically, that messages can be sent over extreme distances in little time via magic, but he has never really experienced the natural consequences of such communication before. It is… quite strange.
But this, here in the capital city of Onar, is something wholly different from previous encounters. These noises are not excited or curious or even admiring – these people seem at once in awe and uncomfortable, almost unbelieving. And there is far more pointing than there should be.
"You are not wrong." Morpheus straightens in his saddle, on high alert to keep his clan safe. "I knew we should have ridden in on Jessamy and Nuala."
Hob grimaces. He had asked not to, had convinced his lover to let them ride into the capital on horses, like sane people, and not on giant fuckoff elk. They did not know how the commonfolk of this place would react to strangers riding in on such large beasts!
See, the thing is that Hob is still very much working on his finesse at riding giant elk. His progress has been strongly inhibited by the fact that the two lovely ladies are very protective of their owner. They pull his personal wagon, after all, and they have heard the distressing array of noises Morpheus has started making from within his vardo now that Hob is here. They are, in short, too smart for their own fluffy britches.
Which would, admittedly, be quite useful right now since they are much more sensitive to threats than the horses.
“I will not question your judgment again.” Hob says and watches as one incredulous eyebrow starts rising on Morpheus’ forehead. “Alright, alright. I will not question your judgment about which animals to use as mounts again. Happy?”
His beautiful, proud Dream smirks as they continue ahead. “Very.”
Despite the strange behavior of the citizens, they are generous with their aid, offering to help both wagons get parked and set up, make sure the horses have food and water, and all the other trappings of setting up for a long day at market.
It is about halfway through the morning when a short, raven-haired man starts pacing through the market stalls, circling their wagons at a distance. It is easiest for Epithumia to step away and gather some information given that they have charisma in spades. They come back barely a quarter hour later with two useful bits of knowledge: the insignia on the man’s tunic indicates that he is an envoy of the Royal Palace and the ring he wears means that he works for the King himself.
“Must be something about you two celebrities… I certainly haven’t done anything in this backwat–I mean lovely country.” Epithumia says as they sit on Hob’s other side.
“Just because you haven’t had time to, I am sure.” Hob smiles at his lover’s sibling and they, in a very adult and stately manner, stick their tongue out at him. It makes his Dream chuckle, which makes it more than worth it.
The sun moves another fifteen degrees in the sky before the envoy decides to finally approach. "Oh, oh shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. The rumors are true." He mutters to himself, apparently not realizing that he can be heard over the din of the market.
When he gets closer to where Hob, Morpheus, and Epithumia are sitting beneath the large fabric awning that has been extended from the top of one vardo, he makes an aborted little bow to them. "Hello, I bid you welcome from King Morpheus,” he is careful to pronounce the name and title of his sovereign clearly, “the monarch of these lands. He asks that you, the drummer and dancer of recent renown, come to the castle this afternoon before the evening meal, which is taken at the eighth bell. He has heard tales of your skill and artistry and would like to meet you privately, if it pleases you?"
Hob watches as his Dream’s face goes from suspicious to surprised to considering in the space of a breath. It is not often that a King asks for an audience with untitled folk, at least not in any land that Hob has ever traveled to.
He looks over to Epithumia to find that their gold eyes are also trying to catch Hob’s gaze. King Morpheus? they mouth silently. Hob just shrugs.
Their Morpheus, his Dream, stands to respond and he towers over the envoy. “Tell the King that the dancer and the drummer will see him at the indicated time this afternoon.” Hob thinks it is notable that he does not give their names to the envoy, but what does he know, really. He hasn’t ever even seen a King before, let alone been called to be in the presence of one.
Then Morpheus nods and the envoy goes fluttering off into the crowd with a squawk.
All three of them stare into the bustling market for a few moments, silent and stony despite the elderly woman trying to get their attention.
“Hob,” his Dream catches his eye as he speaks, “We are going to need to go buy you a shirt, aren’t we?”

Could you do Shinomori and Banjo for a princess mononoke au? 👉👈 Thanks!
Before you read the rest of this, you may want to take a seat. Because I, Jane Alice Rosewood*, have never seen a Studio Ghibli movie. Not one. (*My Ao3 username btw)
BUT I got an HBO subscription to watch Fionna & Cake, and they happen to have it there. So, I took it as a sign, and decided to watch it, which is why this took so long. I hope this was worth the wait. Figuring out who got what role was fun.
Daigoro is not a prince. He just doesn't have the personality for it. Instead, he's a man of normal status with a boisterous personality. When a demon was about to kill some other villagers, he reacted out of pure instinct and grabbed a rope, somehow managing to hog-tie it. Then he ran close and stabbed it, which killed it, revealing that it used to be a boar god. Unfortunately, it managed to grab his arm, cursing him. After receiving the news that the boar god became that way because of an iron ball shot into it, he decides to go and find a way to make sure that doesn't happen again. He doesn't care that he's dying, he just hears that the forest gods are in danger and rushes to save them. His brother En only manages to catch him because he's on an elk and gives him some provisions, the elk, and his favorite dagger as a keepsake.
On his way to the west, he has to fight off several samurai and notices that part of the curse makes him stronger and he can shoot out black tendrils, like the ones that surrounded the cursed god. Later, he bumps into a friendly monk named Torino. and asks if he knows where the iron ball came from. The monk tells him about Iron Town and gives him directions along with a legend about the Great Forest Spirit, who may be able to heal his wound. Meanwhile, Prince Mononoke (Hikage) and his wolf dad, Mitsu (Third) are fighting against Lady Nana and her men. Unfortunately, Mitsu ends up getting shot with iron and falls off the cliff along with Hikage.
Daigoro is having a dandy time walking through the forest, singing songs and basically having his Disney moment out in nature. Then he and his elk (Kudo) find some injured men who also fell off the cliff. The men lead him to Iron Town.
Daigoro is fascinated by the technology and even helps out a little. Then Lady Nana tells him the history of the town. It's the same as in the movie, Lady Nana took in outcasts, they make iron by cutting down the forest to mine it, and that has caused conflict with the daimyō (It's Afo, and because we don't know his canon name, it's just Lord AFO). And Prince Mononoke was raised by wolves, causing him to hate humans.
Later that night, Hikage tries to kill Nana for shooting Mitsu, but Daigoro manages to tie him up and puts him on his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. When the others try to fight back, he uses his strength to his advantage and literally jumps over the wall, but gets shot in the process. He's still strong enough to carry them to the forest before falling over.
Hikage wakes up and tries to stab him, but then Daigoro gets up, looks at him, and there is a long moment of silence before he shouts, "Damn, you look hot!" then passes out again. Hikage is so stunned he sits away in silence for the rest of the night.
As it turns out, Daigoro got healed by the Great Forest Spirit so Hikage decided to trust him. Meanwhile, both Nana and Torino desire the spirit's head to give to the emperor and set out to find it as they both want a reward. Torino wants money and Nana wants protection for the village.
Daigoro rushes back to Iron Town, after giving Hikage his brother's dagger, and sees that the boars tried to attack the village to avenge their dead comrade (Yoichi), only to be wiped out by Torino's mercenaries and Lord AFO's samurai are attacking the town. He finds another wolf being crushed by bodies and gets it out, encouraging the men to go home and help the women.
Meanwhile the boar clan's weak, old, blind leader, Toshinori, is tricked into leading Torino's mercenaries to the Great Forest Spirit (using the same, dressing in their dead pelts trick in the movie). Toshinori then ends up turning into a demon, and Hikage, who was trying to stop it, ends up getting swept up in the bloody tendrils. The Great Forest Spirit comes and causes both Toshinori and Mitsu to die.
Daigoro comes in and manages to pull Hikage out with his curse tendrils, but they both fall back into the lake. Meanwhile, the Great Forest Spirit is starting his Nightwalker transformation, so Nana shoots him, and manages to kill it, and Torino uses his speed to steal the head. It's a lucky thing that Daigoro and Hikage fell into the lake, as they managed to avoid the deadly ooze coming out of the spirit's body.
Hikage and Daigoro go to evacuate Iron Town then run after Torino, who has the head. They manage to convince him to give it back, and while the Great Forest Spirit still ends up dead, everything comes back to life, and Daigoro's curse is healed.
Daigoro wants to help the people of Iron Town, and Hikage, still distrustful of humans, elects to stay in the forest, so Daigoro promises to visit him. Torino leaves them alone and Nana promises to make the town better. The end.
I know I left a lot of things out, but then it would be too long, and besides, it's fun to see what people fill in the blanks with. That being said...
THIS WAS AN AMAZING MOVIE! I could write a whole essay post about this, but I'll spare you. I felt weird about this not being too different from the source material, but at the same time, that movie was so good, I don't want to change a whole lot. Even in an AU. Sorry about that. I hope you enjoyed this one anon!
