#eldritch aph nations
Text
The nations are every age all the time. Because they are their people, and their people are newborn babies, children, teens, young adults, middle aged adults, older adults, elderly folks, and everything in between. Sure, they look 20 something, but when you look into the eyes of your nation, it feels like they're as old as you. They are every generation all at once.
And you know what, they'll dress like it too, they'll act like it too. From Gen Z slang to old timey sayings, they've got the vocabulary that speaks to everyone. From one time fads to styles that remain consistent through the years, they'll find an occasion to wear it. From bingo nights to club nights, they'll be there among the crowd. They are everyone all at once.
They are their people, and their people are everything, and so are they.

(cursed) APH headcanon time!
(nationverse where people know about the personifications of countries)
Alfred did not like Donald Trump at al. So, after he was elected, with the help of other humans, he manages to convince Trump that the personification of the United States of America is him
Tumblr media
So essentially Trump has to discuss things with this eldritch abomination lil fella. He is s c a r ed, as he should be.
To keep up with the façade, he convinced other nations to do it too.
Here’s a poster I made

The nations should be allowed to shapeshift into monstrous eldritch beings. And it should be a result of both the trauma they've faced and a reflection of how they've treated others. Because they can be beautiful things or horrid creatures. It's all a matter of how humanity, in essence, treats/sees them.
They are their people, as I've said before, and that includes their insecurities.

Mumbling to myself about how the nations are some sub-species of primordial gods of the earth who encompass the abstract and vague idea of a civilization or society as I walk across my dimly lit room which is covered in a mess of papers of all sorts, connecting dots with a shitty red yarn string all while running on 5 cups of coffee and 8 minutes of sleep.

At this point there are enough headcanons floating around in my head about the nations and their existence/nature of their being that I feel they deserve their own fucking nature documentary.

I think I might very seen a headcanon somewhere about the nations having the ability to shapeshift. And honestly I really like the idea, but I feel we can be more specific on how that works and whatnot. But whatever here are some ideas and topics that I kind of came up with or just came to mind as things to think about.
A very good way to limit the whole shape-shifting power would definitely be limiting them to just be able to look human (so they can't shapeshift into anything unreasonable, they have to still look like their people)
We could have option A PLUS the ability to shapeshift into a national symbol (most likely their national animal or flower, or even shapeshift to look like a subject of a painting or art piece that was supposed to represent them)
I think the whole shape-shifting thing is cool because it can be an interesting way to look at the whole "they represent their people" thing. Also maybe a way one can look at how they view themselves and how they choose to look like to other people.
It can also be a comedic thing, idk. Like if they can shapeshift why do they choose to look like THAT. Y'know??
Possibly a creepy thing. Ah yes the shape-shifting immortal ones that embody the idea of a community. Eldritch beings.

Haha just wondering. Just curious. Being immortal and all um. What would happen to the nations if they were... say... "killed" by a ghost or something?? Would they get "killed" and then wake up back in their bed like it was nothing but a horrible nightmare?? Would the ghost give em a free pass and let them be on their merry way like "aw shit its just a nation, nvm i guess, no haunting tonight :/" Like... if aph Mexico stumbled across La Llorona one night what would happen to them?? Would they still get kidnapped by her or would La Llorona just be like "aw man, it's just Mexico themself, oh well, no kids to kidnap tonight".

After giving this more thought I said "hell, why not put this out there". So here it is again but with a little more detail.
Hot take, probably the hottest take I've had on the existence of the nations:
What if other supernatural beings (or even paranormal beings) were scared of the nations in a similar way we are scared if spiders. In other words, despite maybe being bigger or meaner or (in our eyes) more terrifying, these other supernatural beings and entities are creeped out by the nations and would rather keep their distance from them.
For some reason, the 'thing' under the bed wouldn't dare lay any of their very (terrifyingly) long fingers on any of the nations, even if their feet are hanging off the bed by a lot. The thing at the end of the road, staring unblinking at them in their car, refuses to get closer. And in fact, if they drive toward it, it backs away like a scared animal. But oh God it is definitely NOT a normal animal. The 'creature' in the woods that normally stalks campers doesn't bother their campsite, it stays as far away as it can from them.
I just think it'd be very interesting and maybe even hilarious if the nations were scarier than the other cryptids and supernatural beings. At least it'd make for an interesting fanfic.
(And- side note- maybe, just maybe, the reason England has fairies as friends is because the mischievous little bastards figured being his friend would serve them better than being his foe. I find it odd that fairies, who are known for stealing children and being cruel to humans, would be so kind to England. I just don't buy it.)

I think.
The nations should have the ability to shapeshift, partially due to their inherent immortality.
We obviously know they aren't allowed to die as long as their nation is up and running. But what if the poor little lads are in a situation where their mortal human body cannot live? In your average daily situation, they have their rapid healing capabilities. But say they got stuck at the bottom of the ocean? (Why? Idk, submarine excursion gone wrong maybe?) Obviously they'd die, but if they're stuck under all that water pressure, how would they come back? They couldn't survive unless they change their physical bodies to adapt to the environment. Am I making sense? I feel like I'm not making any sense.
All I'm saying is, if they're not allowed to die, they should be able to shapeshift in order to adapt to conditions their human mortal bodies would not survive.

Day 5 of asking Hima to let the nations be terrifying as shit

The only reason Hima doesn't let the nations be terrifying and powerful on screen is because he knows that if he shows them throwing a tank with their bare hands once I would go apeshit and I would be uncontrollable.

Lmao ok I just thought of the silliest idea, I think some of yall would like it.
You know how I talked about how the nations can shapeshift. And how I mentioned if that's so, that means they chose to look like that? Like, well, a human.
Well that made me think further. What do they ACTUALLY look like? What's their true, eldritchy form? And then I remembered the Jerries from Pixars movie Soul. Wouldn't it be funny if THAT'S what they looked like? I, personally, think it would fit the fact that they are really just abstract made up ideas in a form that is comprehensible to us humans.

I'm certainly no expert on human geography or the sorts. But I know for a fact that a lot of cultural things tend to be based on what we have in our environment. (An easy example: cultural cuisines. I mean, it's only logical you eat what you can find in your environment.)
Anywho. My point being. I think it'd be nice to see more of the connection between the aph nations and their environment. I think there's a lot of untouched potential there. We should appreciate more the fact that without the resources this beautiful earth provides us, these civilizations would be nothing. (And yet here we are abusing, overusing, and destroying it.) This earth is home.

Hey Hetalia fandom, do we have a tag for eldritch horror aph nation stuff? Like, one we all agree on and can use. Cuz I really like hearing all the headcanons and seeing fan arts and fanfics that revolve around how the nations are not entirely human and are these eldritch immortal beings. But I would like if it were all under a tag or two so I could read or see stuff just based on that idea. I've seen some tags relating to it but I don't think there is a unanimous tag we use.
