#YouthDay I believe that entrepreneurship is the greatest weapon to counteract the issue of unemployment and empower the youth. We need to encourage the youth to consider entrepreneurship as a career choice, instead of looking to be absorbed into the already constricted job market after graduating from varsity. Youth by default are energized and are willing to explore new territories and take up new challenges and risks. Put aside the fact that entrepreneurship can curb unemployment and improve our economy, it also has a key role to play in building a character. Most people start businesses as a back up plan because they didn’t get a job after graduating or were retrenched. We need to promote entrepreneurship as a career path, rather than as a last resort. One way to do that is to encourage our children to start their own businesses is to introduce them to entrepreneurial people who are in the business they would like to pursue. It’s easier for kids to imagine becoming an entrepreneur if it’s modelled for them. Most of us don’t have a @amanda.dambuza on speed dial, but it could be as simple as spending time with a friend who turned their passion for skincare into a business or a chef who turned a side hustle into a full time business. Let your kids see examples of others who are pursuing their passion. Create opportunities where your kids can ask them questions and have others share their experiences. This will improve young people’s intentions to become entrepreneurs. PS. I’m crushing on all the bonus moms, especially my sister-in-love @chelsypopz 💕 You are making a big and positive impact in my niece’s life, I see how you love and care for her as your own. I just want to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart. My brother is blessed to have you as a bonus mom to Nno. The way Nno and Kulu are inseparable, it’s absolutely heart warming. It’s been said that “a child cannot have too many people who love them and want to help them succeed” and I’m glad that you are one of the many people who love our children. I became a bonus mom in my early 20s just like you and I want to share with you some of the things I’ve learned: 🥂 God choses us and he’s the one that will get you through everything. But, you are the adult in this situation, so do the best you can and let your guy do the rest. Don’t forget where you come from Earlier today I had a long call with my bestie @manjezwane and she said something that made me take a minute to acknowledge and appreciate how far I’ve come with @sanaandievents It’s so easy to take things for granted. She saw the upcoming event #TheGirlsHighTea had sold out and had previously been selling out @thebubblycircle #BubblyFridays too. She called to congratulate me and tell me she’s so proud of me. My response was “It’s only 30 guests, it’s easy to sell out”. She reminded me how it used to be so hard to get even 20 guests and most of them would be friends. Now when I look at my guest lists, there’s only a few friends and the rest are people who’ve been told of #SanaandiEvents or #BubblyFridays by friends who even though they can’t attend the event, still go ahead and share invitation with their friends and say to them “you are gonna have a good time!” It’s also thanks to the power of collaboration, I couldn’t have sold out so quickly if I was doing the event alone. When you collaborate with people who play their part, magic really does happens. It’s true the team work make the dream work. I met @ntsoaki_sibiya briefly at @lionessesofafrica in 2019 then we became friends through our @mrs_south_africa journey in 2021. When she told me she's going again this year, I encouraged her and told her I will be cheering her on and supporting her all the way. I've gotten to know Ntsoaki not only as a friend but as a fellow entrepreneur and the one thing that many of my entrepreneur friends have in common is #Tenacity I've learned that the life of the entrepreneur is not straightforward, at so many stages along the way, entrepreneurs have to make the choice to keep going or to give up. Even though we are presented with so many chances to do so, we never quit. We stick with it and figure out how to keep moving forward. It is tenacity that causes us to never give up and not accept no for an answer. To be tenacious is also to believe that you can achieve your goals even when the odds are stacked up heavily against you. But you can't have tenacity without being optimistic or having faith in yourself to be willing and able to do what you need to do to get the result you want. In this competitive world, whether in business or a beauty pageant, there will always be other people who want exactly what you want, you really need to know in your heart that you can succeed. Little girls become women right? One of the many things I want to teach daughters is to always cheer their friends on and to celebrate them rather than feel intimidated or jealous of them. "Write the vision, and make it plain" - Habakkuk 2:2 This is one of the most inspiring and motivating scriptures, especially during this time of the year. They say you are more likely to achieve your goals when you write them down because writing down your goals helps create a vision in your mind of how you want to be in the future. Basically, you are more likely to be productive and creative if you can see how your life will be when you achieve that goal. But it takes more than just hearing an inspirational message. It takes a concentrated effort to take the time to actually write your vision and even a greater unwavering commitment to implement it. Writing down your goals is just the start of the process, you have to commit to achieving those goals by taking action everyday. That's when it gets a little hard. I've learned that just because God has given you a clear vision that everything is not going to be smooth sailing. You are going to encounter some steep challenges and you will hit some unforeseeable turbulence. Do not slow down, even when life comes against you and things are not going your way. If you haven’t yet set goals for life, I suggest you start by writing them down and invite God to be part of your journey because He will give you the strength and courage to pursue your vision with an aggressive offensive attack that empowers you to overcome any obstacle that stands in your way. What we allneed is people to cheer us on, support us and yes constructively criticize us to help us reach our highest potential. The @mrs_south_africa was a new arena in my life, the experience gave me space to believe in myself and encourage others to be confident. I met beautiful and empowered women who most have become friends, queens who are about fixing each others crowns. I got the opportunity to collaborate with brands that believed in me and till today still want to support my causes, because they too believe that "a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle". I have become a brand through associating with brands that took a chance on me. My Instagram page became a place where I can share my thoughts and experiences, I've made so many new friends that I can't wait to one day meet in person. My resolution for 2021 was to become the best version of myself, redefine myself and put me first. As I reflect, I'm happy with how far I've come...I'm loving the person I'm becoming and also unbecoming. It's been a fun year for me, I did things I thought I'd never do, I was a semi-finalist for @mrs_south_africa I was even on #ComeDineWithMe. I've done so many photo shoots you'd think I'm a model. Lol!! 2021 was my year to stop dimming my light and just #LetMyLightShine with the hope that I'd inspire someone to do the same. I even made my IG profile public. I honestly made the best of every moment and celebrated as much as I could, because life is soo short. It's also been a sad year for many of us, we've all lost many loved ones. Saying "Condolences to you and family" was starting to be a usual greeting. The one of many lessons 2021 taught me is that people shape their perceptions of you through your interactions with them and while you can't control how others choose to remember you, you can decide how you live your life according to your truth, values, and principles. The way people feel about you or will remember you is based on things that you may not even be aware of. For example, misunderstandings can create a drift between people if left unresolved and the simplest act of kindness can change someone's life for the better without you ever knowing the impact of that kind gesture. As you go into 2022, I'd like to remind you that this is your life, your story. Don't let others write your story and don't apologize for any edits you do along the way, most importantly don't allow people to add the details to the chapters that only you have direct knowledge of. In today’s demanding world, having time with family isn’t always easy. We need to make time for work, school, hobbies and even me-time, it can get pretty hard to coordinate schedules to meet up with friends and family. Especially when like me you are from a big family, have lots of friends who are all over. That's what i love and appreciate about December time, you can make time to relax and catch up with your beloveds. Even though everyone is more relaxed and available, the holidays are so short, so we still have priotitise who you will spend quality time with. My dad once said something like this to me, "If it's important to you, you will make time for it because no-one is too busy, it's really a matter of priorities" This festive season, let's make the people who really matter to us a priority, make time to be with them and let them know how much they mean to you. I've learned that the things we strive for and spend so much time, effort and money on are usually not the things people treasure about us. People care more about how you make them feel. The perceptions people have of you is through your interactions with them and funny enough sometimes the way you make others feel is based on things that you are not even aware of. It's important to reflect upon how you want to be remembered, because you start to unravel what you stand for and what truly matters to you. One way do this is ask yourself "How do your words and actions make others feel?". Your reflections will help you to consciously choose who you become and better understand how you should show up in this world. Because while you can't control how others choose to remember you or how they feel about you, you can decide how you live your life according to your truth, values, and principles. People will always have an opinion of you, my advice is to remember that only the perceptions and feelings of the people you interact with at a personal level matter... Lately I've been wondering... How would I like to be remembered? A little morbid I know, but losing loved ones makes you reflect on your own life and realise that life is so short and should try to savour every moment. I think life is less about the destination, you know how much we accomplish in this world and more about the journey... how present, content, and connected we are to our truest selves and everything else around us. Life is about how our actions touch the lives of others. When it's all said and done how you make others feel is what they will remember about you... We wear make-up, put on weaves and wear beautiful clothes, but what I want is for my daughters to know, innately and without question, is that they are beautiful without the physical external adornments...that they are so much more that what they see in the mirror. When I truly think about it, I can’t say I’ve ever known another woman who has never dealt with body image issues. Let's teach our daughters to see beauty in others and be comfortable complimenting others rather than being quick to tease someone for the way they look. So that when their own body image struggles rear their ugly head later on in life, we’ve left them with enough self-worth and self-confidence to remember what it is that makes them truly beautiful. Sadly we can’t completely protect them from body image issues or feeling ugly at times. All we can do is reinforce how beautiful they are at heart and set an example by not placing too much value on external things or at least never letting external adornments outweigh internal beauty. I've learnt that you can not succeed in business alone, those who've succeed always acknowledge the importance of others in reaching their goals. That is why I always say "A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle"... the truth is, we all will need someone to light our candle especially when passion is fading and the winds of life blow out our flame. As an entrepreneur you have the opportunity to pursue your passions and turn those passions into profits so you can support the needs of your family and build sustainable businesses. But there comes a time when business is slow, prospects are few and to keep the passion alive all you can to do is help other entrepreneurs and pray that through the help extended to them, they can become successful in their endeavours. Because when they shine, you shine. To be able to touch the lives of others by helping their dreams become a reality is a very fulfilling experience.
