RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL
WHY SPEAK IN TONGUES?
Monday, July 25th.
He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church (1 Corinthians 14:4).
PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME
When you receive the Holy Spirit, you receive the power of God to reside in you as Jesus said (Acts 1:8). This power is triggered or activated when you speak in other tongues. The Greek word translated “edifieth” in the opening scripture is “oikodomeo,” which means to construct or build up, to embolden or charge up like you’d charge a battery.
That verse is therefore telling us that the one who speaks in tongues builds himself up like an edifice; he emboldens himself and charges himself like a battery. When you spend time to speak in other tongues, you’re building up your spirit: “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost” (Jude 1:20). If you were weak in your Christian life, as you speak in other tongues, the power of God that had lain dormant within you would be stirred and you’ll be strengthened to do the things of God.
Speaking in tongues is the antidote to fear and timidity. God hasn’t given you the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Activate the power within you by spending time speaking in other tongues; do this every day and every so often. Your inner man will be built up strong and you’ll constantly walk in dominion over all your adversaries.
Also, speaking in tongues empowers you to preach. I heard the testimony of a nine-year-old boy who was timid and unable to preach to his friends. After he began speaking in tongues, he became confident, and the hitherto timid boy became a bold preacher of the Gospel everywhere. There’s no limitation as to what the Spirit of God can do in your life if you’d spend time to speak in other tongues every day, knowing that you’re speaking mysteries to God, which will provide divine wisdom.
Furthermore, speaking in other tongues aids “quick charge” and causes your spirit to respond quickly to divine signals. Speaking in other tongues is a great blessing. You can learn more about this from our book, “The Power of Tongues.” Get it and study it carefully and expose your spirit to the rich benefits of “glossolalia” (Greek)—speaking in tongues.
PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank you for the invigorating, revitalizing, refreshing, energizing and edifying experience of speaking in tongues. There’s a transformation in all that concerns me; my spirit is conditioned for success, excellence, prosperity and victory. As I speak in tongues even now, out of my belly flow gushers of living waters; words of salvation, healing and strength flow through me to my world, in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.
FURTHER STUDY:
1 Corinthians 14:2-4 For he that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth [him]; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men [to] edification, and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Isaiah 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

The Gifts of the Godhead Part 3b
The three verbal gifts of the Holy Spirit
In Part 3a we considered the description of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit as described in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10.
We are now going to focus on the description of the 3 verbal gifts (tongues, interpretation, and prophecy) in the following passage.
1 Corinthians 14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interprets, that the church may receive edifying.
6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
7 And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
8 For if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.
13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
18 I thank my God; I speak with tongues more than ye all:
19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
20 Brethren be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.
21 In the law it is written, with men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so, falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
27 If any man speaks in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
.
39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
Comments by verse
v.1 We ought to desire spiritual gifts especially that we should prophesy!
v.2 When we speak in an unknown tongue, we are not speaking to men but to God.
It is a direct communication between man and God or vice versa. Although our minds do not understand we are speaking mysteries about God. What do you think the angels make of this?
v.3 Prophecy is in English and is understood by the church thus building them up.
v4. Tongues builds up the speaker, but prophecy builds up the church. see also Jude v20.
v5 Paul wants everyone to talk in tongues but even better if they prophesy so that others can be fed. However, if there is an interpretation of the tongue it has the same effect as a prophecy i.e. it is understood!
v6-12 What good is done in public if no one can understand what you are saying. Love considers others not just our own profit. If you want to give a tongue for the church pray and ask God for the interpretation as well so that everyone will be blessed.
v15. Spirit filled Christians should pray and sing, sometimes in English, sometimes in tongues. Both are OK and one should not preclude the other.
v16-17 Do not give thanks at the meal table in tongues since no one can understand and say Amen.
v18 Paul appreciated the gift of tongues and used it more than anyone else!
v19 but we must know the correct context for the use of tongues i.e. do not confuse the private use with its public use. At the meetings concentrate on what benefits the whole church.
v21.-24 There appears to be an apparent contradiction between verse 21-22 and 23-24 in that in the former tongues is designated as a sign for the unbeliever but in the latter as a sign for the believers. The explanation lies in that on the day of Pentecost the Jews who first heard the other tongues were fulfilling the prophecies of the old testament (Isa 28 and Deut 24 v29) to show the Jews that they were in unbelief. However, the reference to tongues in v23-24 is for the Church and therefore is for a different purpose i.e. for the believers not the unsaved.
v27 Let tongues and prophecies be given in batches of two or three and then give the congregation time to digest them and to discern what the Lord is saying to the church.
v39 Do not forbid the speaking in tongues.
v40 Be sensitive to the Spirit and others. Never behave in an unseemly or outrageous way for the church is the household of God.
Amen

TOPIC: Prophecy As A Weapon (Rhapsody of Realities 17 May 2023) - Pastor Chris O.
This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare (1 Timothy 1:18).
Rhapsody Of Realities For Today MESSAGE:
The Bible says, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh” (2 Corinthians 10:3). In other words, though we live in the human body, our war isn’t according to the flesh. Then the 4th verse tells us about the weapons of our warfare: “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds).” These weapons aren’t manmade or invented by human understanding; rather, they operate through God to the pulling down of strongholds.
It doesn’t matter what kind of strongholds they are; whether they be intellectual strongholds, mental strongholds, political strongholds, scientific strongholds, or medical strongholds! We have weapons to dislodge these evil strongholds and render them ineffective and futile. Hallelujah!
The Holy Spirit, through the Apostle Paul, tells us about one of these effectual weapons of our warfare in our opening scripture prophecy! Use prophecies as a weapon as you wage spiritual warfare by faith. God’s Word about you prophecy. Therefore, always speak forth His Word.
The Word of God from your lips is the sword of the Spirit (the “rhema” of God). This an inspired utterance of the Word of God from your mouth. It’s a prophetic word. With it, you chart your course in life from glory to glory. You can re-frame and re-plan your life. You can override the sequence of unpalatable events in your life or circumstances.
What has God said about you? What has He said about lost souls? What has He said about your situation? Use those words to make war and cause His will to be established in your life, in your nation, and in the lives of men and women around the world.
PRAYER
I declare that righteousness is established in the hearts of people around the world; and through the truth of the Gospel, salvation, healing and health, prosperity and success, deliverance, wholeness, preservation, peace and joy spread in the nations of the earth, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
FURTHER STUDY:
1 Corinthians 14:3-5 (KJV); 3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. 4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. 5 I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
1 Corinthians 14:39 (NLT); So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues.

An Idol is Nothing in The World
Tumblr media
You will be drinking charm and work on top of it without any remorse, once you have an understanding that An idol is nothing in the world. but if you are not aware of this truth, the sight of charm can even kill you through fear
1 Corinthians 8
Tumblr media
Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. 3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him. 4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. 5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) 6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. 7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled. Lack of knowledge brings fear, this is why we always emphasis that you stay on the word of God always. If you know God, you fear nothing in the world, nothing else matters. You do not know God, that's why you fear. Make TurnMen website your home, watch out what happens to you in six months. I am not boasting, but even if i boast, it is on the assurance of the power that is in the word of God., but just give it a try and see it yourself. God is more real than you know, just come to the knowledge of Him and check out the difference. Every time you stay on the word with the spirit of revelation, you are staying on power, you are staying on light, you are staying on light; it will surely rub off on you.
John 10:35 - An Idol is Nothing in The World
Tumblr media
If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
Romans 10:17
Tumblr media
So then faith cometh byhearing, and hearingby the word of God. in verse 7 of the above scripture you discover that the bases on which this fact becomes effective is knowledge. it means that once you do not have this understanding through knowledge, that an idol is nothing in the world, you will definitely believed the lie that there is anything like an idol in the world. you must understand that the knowledge is what produces faith that is able to fight back or withstand any lie by the devil.
Once there is faith, fear is gone
There is no fear in faith, and once there is no faith there is fear The word is light while demons are darkness. Hence once they come in contact with the word, they completely lose all they hang on. It is like you take a fish out from water to land, it cannot survive there. Hence if a man is loaded with the word of God, from afar, demons will run from such a one. And this is a cheap way to stay in peace on earth. THE WORDDEMONSLight, life, createDarkness, death, destroy Hence the word of God carries power that completely demoralize all demons.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES
📅 SAT. 11TH MAY 2024
    ENERGIZING YOUR SPIRIT
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands (2 Timothy 1:6).
Pastor Chris Says
━━━━━━━━━━
When Paul told Timothy to stir up the gift of God in him, he was referring to the power of the Holy Spirit—the dynamic ability to effect changes. This was the same power Jesus talked about when He said, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…” (Acts 1:8).
If you’ve received the Holy Spirit, that power resides in you. That power can however be dormant unless activated, and the quickest way to activate it is by speaking in other tongues. 1 Corinthians 14:4 says, “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself....” As you speak in other tongues, not only are you building yourself, you’re also energizing yourself in the supernatural; you’re stirring up divine power from within to effect changes in every area of your life.
The glory of God is revealed in your life as you charge yourself up in the spirit and stir up the power of God inside you. In Ephesians 3:16, we see the Spirit’s desire for God’s people to be invigorated with miracle-working ability by the Holy Ghost; praying in tongues can make that happen for you.
Praying in other tongues also energizes your faith. The Bible says in Jude 1:20, “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.” Faith comes to you when you hear the Word of God. The more you hear the Word, the higher your faith goes. However, you sustain yourself at the highest peak of faith by praying in other tongues.
            🙏 P R A Y E R
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Dear Father, I thank you for your glory that’s manifested in my life today as I speak in other tongues. Your power in me is activated, energizing me to walk in divine wisdom, make progress, and rise higher and higher like an edifice, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
    📖 FURTHER STUDY:
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Acts1:8 AMPC;But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.
1 Corinthians 14:4 AMPC;  He who speaks in a [strange] tongue edifies and improves himself, but he who prophesies [interpreting the divine will and purpose and teaching with inspiration] edifies and improves the church and promotes growth [in Christian wisdom, piety, holiness, and happiness].

The power of the assembly
The devil hates the assembly
Acts 20:28-29 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
Ezekiel 34:5 And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered.
The devil’s main aim is to separate you. A christian must be allergic to being the odd one. You must be afraid of being an isolated person.
1.The assembly edifies the people.
1 Corinthians 14:2 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
To edify means to educate, to enlighten, to improve, to teach and to uplift
That is why Satan wants you to stay away from church. One of satan’s main things is that you do not belong to any group.
2. Exhortation  happens in the assembly.
i) Exhortation means to exert influence on the will and decisions of a person.
ii) To encourage someone who is under pressure.
iii) To put confidence in the troops
iv) To strengthen the morale of the troops by the recollection of the past.
3. Enliven and to speak good words to liven and cheer them
4. To bring comfort to the people. I Corinthians 14: 3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort
Comfort is to speak to someone  and come close to their side.
5. To speak to someone in a friendly way
6. Encourages unity. Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. Acts 2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
7. Because it causes all your needs to be met. Acts 4:33-35 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need
Your needs will be provided for through the church.
8.  Assembly brings knowledge . I Corinthians 14: 6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?

Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle? So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air. There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification. Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
1 Corinthians 14:1‭-‬11 KJV

My notes on "The God I Never Knew" - Pastor Robert Morris (Final Part)
Does He Speak in Tongues?
Two types of tongues, we're talking about prayer language.
1. It's scriptural
1 Corinthians 14:2, "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries." 14-18, "14. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 16. Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest? 17. For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified. 18. I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:" 39 "Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues."
The Holy Spirit still moves and breathes. We pray with Him.
2. It's a benefit
1 Corinthians 14:4, "He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church." Ephesians 6:17-18 "17. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;"
Edifying others is important but it's also important to edify yourself, in private. It builds you up.
3. It's a choice
1 Corinthians 14:14-15, "14. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;" Luke 11:11-13 "11  If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12. Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"
You have the will, the choice to speak with the Holy Spirit. When you ask for good from God, he will only give you good.
