Here’s the before & after of a piece I reworked into a surface pattern design. This personal art was initially a Thanksgiving dinner e-vite but had been sitting in my digital dustbin since 2011(!) 😬⁣ ⁣ I thought it was the perfect subject to revive & tweak for @spoonflower’s “East Fork: Butter & Piglet” design challenge since the @eastforkpottery folks have a lot of delightful dinnerware. I had fun doing the kitchen item lockup, using a limit color palette, and added in 3 “easter eggs” into the design. Checked out the @diasporaco pop up and got to taste a variety of spice mixes plus homemade chai and a biscotti made by @lpelican all of which were delicious. If only coffee shops served this chai. I loved being able to try more of Sana’s products as I’m always hesitant to buy before sampling, both because I’m indecisive and I can overbuy. Here is my entry for this week's Spoonflower challenge (@spoonflower and @eastforkpottery) . I used "Malibu" and Tequila Sunrise as the main colors. 🎨This time, they offered such a great colour palette. Personally, I truly love it. My mind is racing with sketching ideas after seeing that palette. ✏️

Finally, I drew two pictures, one of a complex pattern that incorporates every colour they mentioned and the other of a strong pattern with few colours. 🍃🖤♠️☘️

In comparison with the intricate design, I find this to be very appealing. 😍Strong cosmos blooms give the fabric a richer, more vibrant appearance. I was satisfied after viewing this design on #spoonflowerfabric #spoonflowerwallpaper #spoonflowermockups, which is why I entered it this time. 🤓

🛏️View the mockups on bed coverings by swiping. With some greenery close by, it appears wonderful. Maybe I'll buy my design sheets eventually and place some plants nearby to achieve that exact look. 🌿🪴

By the way, I will modify my intricate pattern somewhat for upcoming challenges. 😎

Took this swooped-fringe weaving and her sister off the loom yesterday to make room for new projects. Part of my decision to move my studio home was so that I could take greater control over creating a business that has as little impact on the environment as possible. Taking the lead from many other ceramic arts businesses (particularly with influence from @thebrightangle, @eastforkpottery, @forestceramicco) I decided to begin by reducing plastic and made the switch to Geami Ranpak and compostable packing peanuts. The papers made to create Geami are Sustainable Forestry Initiative certified or made using recycled content. Geami is also biodegradable and 100% recyclable. Last year @Etsy also rolled out Carbon-Offset Shipping which I love. ⠀ Another huge decision largely motivated by my partner, @mowgli.harris - was to get ☀️SOLAR PANELS☀️ on our house to power our home, my studio and my kiln. We are still figuring out the proper wattage to 100% power the kilns and our home, but it has felt pretty damn good to even take that step. ⠀ I still have a lot to strive for here! I do reuse existing packing materials whenever I come upon them rather than throw them away and use new materials, so occasionally bubble wrap does make it into a package. Next, I want to cut out plastic tape and sell through my own website with carbon-offset shipping. Makers - what are you doing to lighten your ecological footprint? Please share!
