From Under The Cork Tree is the best Fall Out Boy album (Here’s why under the cut)

So basically From Under the Cork Tree came out in May of 2005 and is FOB’s second studio album (and in my opinion the best album to ever exist) featuring such iconic songs as “Sugar We’re Going Down” and “Dance Dance”, but it also features 11 more of the best songs to hit the American charts Most of the songs have bonkers long titles like “Our Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of This Song So We Wouldn’t Get Sued” (which was actually originally named “My Name Is David Ruffin And These Are The Temptations” but FOB’s lawyers made them change it so they didn’t get sued) and “I’ve Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth”, and other such bops

My favorite currently is "Of All the Gin Joints in All the World" has this sweet guitar riff but it also has my very favorite vocal riffs on the album, as well as "We're making out inside crashed cars, and sleeping through all the memories" and "Oh, the way your makeup stains my pillowcase, like I'll never be the same" which are some of the most poetic yet totally emo song lyrics I know, and is all around a very nice bop 12/10

“I’ve Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth” I talked about a lot yesterday so I won’t go on and on about it but “I’m hopelessly hopeful you’re just hopeful enough” is one of the hardest lyrics I’ve ever heard and I’ll take that to my grave (Ba dum tsh)

“Dance, Dance” and “Sugar, We’re Going Down” are both bops in their own respect, and I see why they’re chart toppers, but personally I’m kind of Danced and Sugared out, but they still hold a very special place in my heart

“A Little Less ‘Sixteen Candles’ a Litte More ‘Touch Me’” has a super banging chorus, and my favorite line to sing in the song and one of my favorite on the album is “You can make all the moves, you can aim all the spotlights, you can get all the signs and the moAHns just right” and then it slams into the chorus and I fucking adore every ounce of it

“Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year” was my anthem last year (Fitting seeing as I was a sophomore) and it very much encompasses the experience I had my sophomore year, and “Cause I swear I’d burn this city down to show you the light” was the height of poetic lyricism when I heard it for the first time (Still is honestly)

“Champagne For My Real Friends, Real Pain For My Sham Friends” is yet another lyrical wonder, because the rhyme scheme does NOT look like it should work and yet?? It does?? “You steer in a rear-view mirror, make my head swim I'll keep you warm and won't ask you where you've been With your backless black dress soaked to the skin When it's said and done, they're all scrambling And we're friends, we're friends Just because we move units” like none of that should rhyme and yet?! Like I literally am in love with it

“XO” and “Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner” are both good but not the first that come to mind when I think of FUCT, “XO” has “To hands between legs to ‘whatever it takes’ to drinks at the club to the bar to the keys to your car” which just fucks extremely, and “Nobody Puts Baby..” is an absolute bop, it just fucks so hard?? Like you just gotta listen to it I can’t explain it in words it’s so good

“Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying” is so emo it’s not even funny, but it’s kinda kitch in that way, and I truly adore it, “I know this hurts, it was meant to (it was meant toOoOoO) your secrets out and the best part is it isn’t even a good one, and it’s mind over you, don’t, don’t matter” goes SO fucking hard

“I Slept With Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me” goes SUPER hard when you’re angry about the way your ex boyfriend’s mom treated you, and “Douse yourself in cheap perfume, it’s so fitting (so fitting) of the way you are, can’t cover it up (can’t cover it up)” is gonna be on my headstone, it speaks to every single fibre of my being in a way I can’t explain

“Our Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of This Song So We Wouldn’t Get Sued” is a great example of Patrick Stump’s terrible diction in the sense that had I not googled the lyrics I would have no idea what he’s saying, but when you Google it the song makes so much sense and fucks so hard

“7 Minutes in Heaven (Avatan Halen)” is one we listened to yesterday and it speaks to my bones in such a way, I talked about it a bunch yesterday but like it is quite literally one of those songs that makes every ounce of my body ready to scram cry fight fuck laugh dance smile and so on

So yeah I love this album with my whole body
