Headcanon Request: Gray worrying about the END markings wrapped around Lucy's heart

I can't believe they didn't have any lasting side effects from Lucy playing with END

Gray does not want Lucy to be alone after that. At least not until he's for sure she's 100% okay

It was easy the first couple days, most of Fiore was trashed. Everyone was camping out together so Gray had a good excuse to stay by her side

He watches her like a hawk. Even going so far as to stay awake while Lucy is asleep just in case something happens at night

Lucy can tell he's worried about something but didn't realize it was her until she asked him what was up

Lucy assures him she feels okay but Gray is skeptical

Lucy is not okay btw. Her skin still burns sometimes, it hurts to breathe, her muscles feel too tight. She's all out of sorts but Lucy doesn't want to worry her friends

Gray can tell she's feeling side effects. He's hyper aware of every wince

He can barely sleep. Every time he does, he has a nightmare about her dying and him being the reason because he didn't get her help soon enough

It takes Gray waking up screaming from a nightmare in front of her for Lucy to realize just how worried and stressed he is

She tells him her symptoms and promises to go to Wendy

Lucy starts getting regular treatments and makes sure to tell Gray when her symptoms lessen and keep him updated

They effects never truly go away but it gets a lot better with only occasional flare ups

Gray still worries but is a lot more comfortable with Lucy and Wendy keeping him updated

He's always there to cool her down when she has flare ups too

I’m really really hoping that we get to see E.N.D again in fairy tail 100 years quest. I was so disappointed with all the build up for E.N.D in the original story and we ended up getting very little of what E.N.D looked like and it only lasted two chapters? If even that there’s also no way Erza should have been able to stop Natsu and Gray. Really really hoping that what we saw in the original story wasn’t it that was underwhelming. Hope to see the full version of E.N.D at some point.

You ever look back on something you wrote several years ago and think, "damn this is actually really good?"

That's me. A few years back, when I was writing on Wattpad, I was obsessed with this one anime called Fairy Tail. I wrote fanfiction for it, I made fan art for my fanfiction, I would literally stay up all night reading about my favorite ships... but like all other hyper-fixations, it eventually faded and I found My Hero Academia and other anime to watch.

Anyways, I was looking back through my Wattpad account and I realized there's this one's particular story I did not finish. A story I spent the last few days rereading and thinking, "holy shit, why did I not finish this?"

That fanfiction is called Walk Through The Fire, the result of me being so utterly pissed off at how Fairy Tail ended that I literally just rewrote the entire ending. I had two books planned out, and according to some of my old drafts, both of them were intended to be over 60 chapters long.

I think that story has a lot of good potential.

So I'm thinking about finishing it.

It's probably been over 2 years since I last uploaded a chapter, and in that same amount of time, I abandoned my account. Wattpad was my writing platform for about 5 years at the time (13-18); I felt like I needed a fresh start, and Ao3 looked like the best choice. I didn't really mean to abandon my Wattpad account completely, but this new update came and I couldn't recover the email that was associated with that account. I decided to cut my losses and write other things, and for a while, I forgot about it. Then I started rewatching Fairy Tail.

Fairy Tail faded in popularity over the years, and since the anime ended back in 2020, I'm not even sure if there are any people still reading about it. The fandom might be dead- even though the Hundred Year Quest is still ongoing- and part of me feels really bad for just abandoning that story all because I was lazy and uninspired.

Right now I'm so busy with work and school and stuff, I'm not too sure if adding yet another project onto my plate is a good idea. But honestly at this rate I really don't care. I like the stories I'm writing, even the old shitty ones with poor grammar and even worse punctuation.

I feel like the story has a lot of potential and when I feel the time is right I think I'll finish it. It's all a matter of if and when.

Oooh, I love a good angst prompt

Outwardly, Natsu doesn't say anything. He plays up the oblivious, idiot role so he doesn't have to confront the guilt he feels about it

The marks never went away. They faded pretty light but you can still seem them when the sun hits them. Lucy uses makeup to cover them as well

But Natsu has better eye sight than most. So he always sees them and it kills him. He never looks down when talking to her

Somehow he feels like if he looks at them or acknowledges them in anyway, he will explode with guilt

He accidentally grabbed that arm and flinched like he had been burned. Lucy got really insecure when he pulled away and got quiet

Actually, Lucy gets really insecure about Natsu's behavior in general. He won't even look at her half the time and she worries that he thinks she's disgusting with her scars

Every time Natsu thinks about the marks, he remembers that he wasn't strong enough to protect her or himself. And that she had to go through all of that pain to save him

He's eternally grateful that she saved his life, but he can't help but hurt when he sees the consequences of that

Lucy does eventually confront him about it. Natsu denies everything and tries to pretend he never noticed the marks. Lucy calls bullshit, but he's acting so weird that she drops it

It takes a long time for Natsu to talk to her about it. And when he does, he fully breaks down and dumps all the guilt and trauma he's been suppressing for years

He ends up crying in her arms and apologizing for not being enough

Lucy, of course, disagrees with that and tells him that he's saved her life tons of times and that she'd do anything for him

Natsu finally allows himself to look at the marks after that

He even picks up a habit of tracing them with his fingers on bad days

It reminds him that he doesn't have to be strong all the time, that Lucy can protect him and herself, and of the history they share

“So, what is it like when you become E.N.D.?”

Natsu looked over at her. Lucy was lying on her stomach, waving her bare legs in the air as she read through a book. She was sitting up on her elbows now, looking up at him. “What’s got you thinking about that all of a sudden?” he wondered.

Lucy ran a delicate finger along the page of her book. "Something I read here reminded me of that Tartaros guy, Jackal. He was able to choose between his forms at will, remember? Can you do that? Or is he something separate from you entirely?”

Natsu hummed thoughtfully, trying to remember the feelings he’d experienced in his limited transformations. “I think I could learn to do it….I remember what happens when I take that form, so it’s not like I’m….gone or anything."

Lucy nodded and tapped her lip thoughtfully. “Well….I think you should try. It’s way better to know you can do it before you need to, right?” She crossed her ankles in the air and rolled onto her side. Natsu smiled slightly, tracing the line of her nose with his finger. She licked his fingertip as it traced her lip and he chuckled

“You want me to try right now? What if I destroy the room? It was expensive you know,” he teased, knowing it would get a reaction. She poked him in the chest. “You said you know what’s going on, so you better not! I need the whole reward to pay my rent.”

Natsu chuckled, then frowned. “What if I hurt you?”

Lucy sat up on her knees beside him. “You never have. Do you want to? When you’re like that, I mean?” Natsu scoffed and gave her a look that made his answer obvious. “Okay then, why not try it?”

Natsu shifted his feet to the floor and stood up, dropping his scarf to the bed. “All right, but I…. I don’t know how well I’ll behave without a battle to distract me from you.” Before Lucy could ask what he meant, she felt the room warm as magic power welled up within him. There was so much that it caused the hair on her arms to stand on end. Natsu screwed up his face in concentration as the power within him reached its peak.

The level of energy dancing around him created strong waves of hot air that gusted off of him, blowing Lucy’s hair wildly. She snatched his scarf up as it started to blow off the bed and bit her lip watching him. Something in the well of power around him seemed to snap and all the magic vanished in a flash. Lucy started forward in alarm. She could barely feel any magic in him at all! Had something gone wrong?

Natsu’s body shuddered, and dark red scales began surfacing along his arms and up the sides of his face. His hands cracked as claws sprouted from the tips of his fingers. Massive crimson wings sprouted from his shoulder blades with a sickening crunch, and twin horns grew out of his pink hair.

“Etherious Natsu Dragneel….” Lucy murmured, studying him. The form usually dissipated whenever she got close to him, so it was her first chance to really look at him.

“Ugh, Natsu works just fine.”
