Eight really is one of the Doctors who comes across as needing a lot of looking after. I always say his companions stay going through it. He looks after and clearly loves them too, but they get so roughed up. And he is full on manic pixie dream girl. Hardest Doctor to keep up with imo. Even this early on in his run, his companions/potential companions are having these conversations.

And then you go into the suitcase of candy

You can’t not love him (derogatory/affectionate)

Seven is the chess master but Eight is…he can be every bit as manipulative, but he’s so sweet at times that it’s harder for people to tell on the surface if he’s doing it on purpose. You don’t think he is, up until you realize he was. You think he’s naïve until you realize he knew all along whatever it was you thought he didn’t pick up on. He’ll wear his hearts on his sleeve and be open and honest, until you realize he was doing it for a reason or multiple reasons. It’s very “butterfly with false eyes on the wings, and colors that scream ‘I’m toxic don’t eat me.’” You’re at least going to lick it. Because of the pretty colors.

The persona is him and is true, and is also part of the smokescreen to keep you where he wants you. Which is in his arms. But you can go whenever you want. He loves you and everyone so very much, and all of it is true. He’ll forget you for a year. But he’ll be sorry about it. The persona and the person are one and the same like they melted into one under the pressure.

Seven let his eldritch horror mask slip sometimes, Eight became the mask made flesh? You look at the cuckoo chick and see it’s too big for the nest but you want to take care of it. And it really does need you. And it really does love you. And is it a survival strategy or is it “real” and the answer is both “yes” and “does it matter”?

I’m sure all this has been said before and by better than me. But gosh, this is why I love Eight. 😭 You agree. Give him your heart. He’ll burn it up like a star and you’ll live forever and die the most horrific death imaginable. But he’ll love you when he remembers to. You’re only human. Neither of you can help it.
