Self Portrait (Ryuichi Sakamoto):music

Ryuichi Sakamoto is a musician representing Japan. This song was written when he was not yet known to the world before he worked on movie music, and it is included in the album "Ongaku Zukan: music pictorial book".

When he was in high school, he became involved in student activism and dreamed of a revolution. When I learned about this song because I was attracted to him, who was a member of YMO, someone who knew him well at that time told me, "You (Rei Morishita) look like Mr.Sakamoto," and I was delighted.

The person said, "Once upon a time, Mr. Sakamoto wrote a lot of songs like this." This Self Portrait is also said to be such a song.

I think that Ryuichi Sakamoto's kanji character 'dragon:龍' means 'a soft-bodied child jumping and jumping', and the meaning of a free and uncompromising creative activity comes to mind. Spirit, dynamism...that is the essence of Ryuichi Sakamoto's music.

坂本龍一は、日本を代表する音楽家である。この曲は、彼が映画音楽を手掛ける前、まだ世界に名を知られていない頃書いた曲で、アルバム「音楽図鑑」に収められている。

彼は高校生の頃、学生運動にのめり込み、革命を夢見ていたが、その頃から、「血も滴るような」曲を書いていた。YMOのメンバーだった彼に惹かれてこの曲を知ったとき、その頃の彼をよく知っていた人に、「君（森下礼）は坂本君に似ている」と言われ、喜んだこともある。

「むかしの坂本君は、こんな曲をたくさん書いていた」とその人は言っていたが、このSelf Portraitもそんな曲だと言うのだ。

思うに、坂本龍一の「龍」（dragon）という字は、漢字の字解きすると「柔らかい体の子供が飛び跳ねる」という意味があり、自由で、また妥協のない創造活動を行う者という意味が浮かびあがってくる。気韻・躍動・・・それが坂本龍一の音楽の本質だ。

I love the "came back wrong" trope but from the opposite side.

Imagine you are dead. And then you are RIPPED from the embrace of decay into the world of the living again. Your memories are hazy and you don't recognize any of these people, but they act like they're close to you? Like they love you? So you try to get your memories back, to act like you belong here, but everybody tries to forget you died. And you can't. It is omnipresent. And just trying to grapple with that fact pushes the people who "love" you away, and they're incapable of understanding, and they're so confused, what's wrong N̶̄̀O̶͛͗T̷̉́ ̷͋͝Y̴̎̌Ȍ̴̈U̸̓R NÄM̴̃͑E̵̾̇? And you just need them to understand, you aren't that person! You aren't! You don't know who that person is! You don't know why any of this is happening, but they're unwilling to bend, they keep insisting you are that person, your memories will come back, everything will be normal again, and you want to scream and cry and claw yourself open to show them you're different. Your existence as a being wholly separate from whoever you "used to be" is a sin unto itself. All you can do is scrabble for life and to them, you're killing whoever they loved to do it.
