AAAAND another one of my mad AUs
Music? On and rocking Courage? Mustered Dignity? Already waved her goodbye OK i’m ready. Apparently summer, having to study for exams i dislike and most of all reading nice books that send me in hyperfixation with the characters give me IDEAS™. After some time spent convincing myself to do it i’ve finally read The Three Musketeers and having loved it to FOLLY, i CLEARLY devoured also Twenty Years After and started the Viscount  of Bragelonne (Athos, i love you, but we’re not talking of you, forgive me my man). This new obsession tonight coupled with my ever present love for LOTR and Silm and since APPARENTLY heat goes up to my head, i thought:
Ok, here we have Aramis, ridiculously always good looking, even at like... 20 years from the first time we meet him he is THE SAME AS ALWAYS and in the Viscount for the little i know for now he didn’t age much either, Devilishly good with horses AND swords (eggrazziearcazzo, you may say, he’s a MUSKETEER) with almost ZERO impulse control (Athos works as impulse control for them, actually) but GREAT cold blood, can apparently sing quite well, some disregard for rules and some great agility and effort in actually always managing to break one of two of those and... oh look, all the boxes check and hear me out. Aramis. Being. MAGLOR FEANORION!!  I talked about this with my darling @tairin, my nice sis who i love and thank very much for being always there to hear me rambling about my obsessions and not having killed me yet. And she is even more of a genius than i suspected! (@joachimnapoleon please don’t kill us) She made me give a second check to who ELSE checked all the boxes and here, the illumination.  Good looking Incredible with horses Apparently skilled in verses/songs Devilish with a sword some disregard for rules NOT imposed by himself Joachim Murat. Being Maglor Feanorion.
Tumblr media
Tolkien fandom out here (@thiswaycomessomethingwicked i get you’re one of us?) tell me if maglor wouldn’t have a portrait of himself like this one of our darling jojo, c’mon! He checks out also the diva personality!!
Anyway, this was my new silly AU, don’t kill me please, i still have to pass biochemistry and see confirmed my credits for cmcf, i’m too young to die and my cats would miss me😂  I hope you at least laughed a bit form this one silly thing.

Can you explain more what you mean about Ridley Scott having old man gaze? I'm really curious lol
Back in the day... Ridley's day too, -Most mainstream big movies had that dynamic. Some leading white guy who was older than his love interest. This was that white male director's gaze. So it was standard. We didn't see it as fanfiction back then... But once it clicks into place.... The guy was a good 10 - 20 years older than his female love interest. Ridley Scott is 86 years old. 86. He is still directing the same kinds of movies with the same gaze as he did in the 80's. It's not about historical accuracy. It's about defending that gaze and that "tradition".
It's in the same realm of debate as "when will real cinema come back", a subject that is always brought up by or centered around old white male auteurs.
They act like it's about being tired of one subject dominating genre (IP and especially comic book films) but really, it's more about the increased inclusion, in both the players and the gaze steering the proceedings and audiences enjoying it. So, when Ridley is cussing about his disregard of accuracy, he's really being defensive of his gaze being so much less taken at face value, without basic interrogatives about it, these days. He's an old man yelling at a cloud. And having what used to be baseline normalcy in American film; instead inspiring knowing chuckles and eye-rolls, because of course, you cast the boring old standard of a too-old J. Phoenix and too-young V. Kirby, even when the reality (Jo was actually six years older than Napoleon) would have made that dynamic in your movie much more interesting... But upholding old cliches as "real cinema' regardless of the actual quality/watchability of the film matters more to him.

I got really lucky at a charity shop today and I wanted to show!! I got a first edition French copy of La Dame Aux Perles by Alexandre Dumas (same guy who wrote the OG The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo!) and an 1951 copy of Jane Austen's Emma!
I love Alexandre Dumas' works to death, especially The Count of Monte Cristo and La Dame Aux Camelias, so I was really surprised to find such an old edition, let alone in French, for only five quid. Let alone the old copy of Emma.
Are they musty? Yes. Is the cover coming off the spine? Yes. But is it cool to think I'm holding a book that has passed by hundreds of hands, sat on hundreds of bookshelves, and has survived two world wars?? Big yes!!

a recent chat lead me to look into Les mohicans de Paris {and besides being inspired by Sue’s Mystères and Cooper’s Last Mohican} it’s about a republican Dumas père self insert battling the bourbons and Vidocq (!)
The Vidocq character (m. Jackal)(some of the charas are named after animals or fruits) is described as:
« il a pour charge de prévenir les complots anti-bourboniens, ou de les provoquer pour mieux les réprimer »
He was in charge of preventing anti-bourbon plots, or of provoking them to better repress them
a relevant excerpt from Graham Robb’s Parisians:

I don’t know whether it’s one of the reasons why I plan to go into a career in history or a symptom of it, but the part of media that fascinates me most is what it says about the times it was made in. It’s part of why I’m drawn to long-running franchises in particular— I love seeing how characters have changed to fit different audiences, and how the political and cultural atmosphere of the times has affected the way these stories are told.

Hello again to the Alexandre Dumas shitposting side of Tumblr! Aramis is a weasel and also my favorite!

It was easy enough for Aramis to pretend to be a disgruntled ex-soldier formerly in the pay of the Spanish army.
It was not easy at all to convince the Frenchmen of his true nationality once the Baron du Pont's men overran their little camp by the border.
Whumptober is near and so it's my moral as well as religious duty to make Aramis suffer :D

I can’t with this growing list of WIPs, man, can someone finally invent a technology that will beam what I have in mind directly into ao3 so that I don’t have to take the time off from my busy schedule of doing fuck all to actually physically write these things myself?
