Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Seek is so disappointing to me because it's trying way too hard to make the characters hetero. I'm sorry, but when I heard the premise of "post-canon story where a man returns claiming to be Dr. Jekyll, and Utterson struggles because he knows that's not true but also can't explain why he knows that's not true" I wanted more insight into Henriel, not for Utterson to proclaim some long lasting obsession with a woman he and Jekyll both dated.

Seriously, I'm just screaming about how great this "identity theft thriller" could have been if it just leaned into the gay subtext of the original and had Utterson more conflicted about wanting Jekyll back vs Knowing he can't be back.

(and maybe if this was my fanfic Jekyll IS genuinely back and is just being very Hyde-ish about his return to Utterson).

My one offense is thinking that Jekyll and Hyde were fucking in secret whilst reading the first 3/4 of the book. 😭

NO BECAUSE IF YOU IGNORE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE THE SAME PERSON AND LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE IT MAKES SENSE! I KNEW THE PLOT TWIST AND I COULDN’T IGNORE IT! So many times did I have to stop to sigh and clear my head about how queer Jekyll was acting. Like, pookie, you are defending one problem with the evidence needed to create another. Stfu.

I had a friend who, for the first half of the book, was unaware of the plot twist until their mom eventually spoiled it for them. EVEN THEY SUSPECTED THAT THOSE FUCKERS WERE SECRETLY IN LOVE! Bro was devastated when their mom had to sit them down and tell them that Jekyll was just a mad scientist. 😭

No idea if this will reach somewhere but like, I have a victorian era roleplaying server where everything is set in a world called Vesper, with cowboys and other fun stuff; we have already some characters from gothic literature (J&H, Frankenstein etc.) claimed, but we allow doubles! ocs and canon characters are also allowed.

and here's the premise:

Thousands of years ago, a cataclysm befell the land of Vesper, eradicating all its inhabitants, flora, and fauna. Intriguingly, bored Gods seized an opportunity within this ravaged world, meticulously reconstructing its plant and animal life. Yet, there was a missing piece – something beyond their creative reach: human beings. Contemplating their divine dilemma, the Gods devised a curious plan. What if they were to pluck citizens from diverse worlds and eras, transplanting them onto a perilous continent teeming with both opportunities and dangers? Thus, the stage was set, and the characters found themselves in the enigmatic continent, disoriented and accompanied by a small box. Within this box, an unusual slate resembling a phone and a leather bag containing precisely one hundred coins awaited their bewildered discovery.

Lately, there has been a significant influx of individuals from diverse backgrounds and historical eras, leading to a noticeable population surge. Despite the assistance of the Arcane Society *a community ran by Doctor Henry Jekyll comprising rogue scientists, friendly witches, and doctors in Mossbury Town, there is a collective inability to comprehend why or how they ended up there, and a return seems elusive; notably, dissent exists, particularly among the residents of Rusvil Town. While overall relations between the towns remain amicable with the exchange of products and information, a subtle air of prejudice lingers among Rusvil inhabitants towards the Arcane Society. They opt to place their hopes for an explanation and a way back in the hands of philosophers who advocate religious beliefs.

It’s late and I should be off to sleep, but before that, I’m left with a simple thought:

Jekyll clinging to Utterson as the taste of a transformation is on the tip of his tongue. Resting his head gently on his lawyer’s shoulder as there’s a growing discomfort in his bones. Utterson holds him in return; after Henry shared his secret he’s been even more willing to put him at ease. He holds him close, also resting his head on the other’s shoulder. He becomes increasingly more aware of the pressure on his back as Henry’s hands dig into his vest. The steady sharpening of nails clawing his back. If he were to open his eyes, he’d see Jekyll’s hair changing in color and growing, but the scent has become to much for the moment. The putrid scent of chemicals and iron mingling. His eyes are closed and he focuses on the head resting on his shoulder, shaking back and forth enough that it gives the impression shaking away the discomfort or, if this moment was under sweeter conditions, nuzzling. How, from the man's changing stature, was slipping from his shoulder. He focuses on how he’s being pulled closer. It's a tight embrace, both too afraid to let go. He focuses on their feet shuffling awkwardly. It's a disjointed dance, neither dancer knowing what comes next. He focuses on running a hand through the now long and tangled hair. He can already see the tricolored strands between his fingers. It ends and he’s slowly released, Hyde stepping back and wiping the blood from its lips. He’d been biting down on them again, worried about staining Utterson’s clothes. His companion wouldn’t have minded.

One question I have is:

Why do all of the characters in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde stay up and do things so late??

Why does Utterson go to bed at midnight exactly? Why was the girl out so late, as well as Enfield and all those other people?? Is it commonplace for people in the 1800s to stay out and do things until the crack of dawn?

Don't even try to show any skin other than above your neck and maybe your hands. He'll publicly humiliate you if your showing everyone else what belongs to him.

He won't admit his mistakes and instead, blame you for his mistakes. He hates owning up and he'd rather blame others

Henry is in his laboratory more than anywhere else. He says its for work but it could also be a mistress.

If you try to complain about him being unfair, he'd argue that all women are designed to do is 'cook, clean and have babies'. He'd often compare you to a maid.

He doesn't ask for consent sometimes and if you ask him, he says 'I'm authorised to pleasure myself and my wife whenever I see fit.'

Henry will ask Hyde not to hurt you physically. He only wants you to be mentally hurt so you'll go running to him, crying about his words.

He likes pretending that he's the hero by comforting you after Hyde's cruel remarks.
