Crime Island
Jotting down notes for the game after I finish Hollywood Underhills in the hopes that it lets me go back to working on Hollywood Underhills.
So the basic idea that keeps bugging me is to do a Double Cross DX heartbreaker- some of the TTRPG nerds on here may remember this when it came out a million years ago in 2015-2016 or from me talking about it a few times. It's a game by FEAR, the Japanese TRPG publisher who, as I've mentioned before, is best known for all their games having a list of anime characters that your characters are expected to have feelings about.
In Double Cross, PCs were empowered by a super-virus with multiple strains, which different strains granting different powers. There was a real risk of losing yourself to the virus based on its encroachment rate and becoming a monster, but you could draw on your connections to others (called Loises, literally after Lois Lane)
Anyway, I had a huge soft spot for the game, got to play it a few times, and then the person publishing it in English dropped off the face of the internet and stopped putting out any new books.
So like one does, I'm thinking about rolling my own version as a sort of homage.
Right now the current thought on rationale/setting is "Big Island, vaguely inspired by Black Lagoon's Roanapur that's largely divided between different crime families, and each crime family has a set of weird powers associated with them- like the traditional mafia group might be the Cagliostro family and have an alchemy and hypnosis theme, etc.
(This wouldn't stop anyone with different powers from being associated with a particular family, because years of truces and marriages and feuds and betrayals means anyone could end up working for a different gang.)
Current thinking is that players would be outsiders to the main power structure, even if they were part of a family at some point. Maybe it's a thing where folks who've come into their powers are kicked out the door to survive on their own and see what they make of themselves. So the default group of PCs would be a mixed group of supernatural young adults who've banded together to survive despite their different origins.
And now that I've written all these notes maybe I can get back to the game I'm -actually- writing.

I've just read your first eighth circle book on kindle. I couldn't put it down. It was amazing. So we'll written and my days the twists. Amazing just amazing. Please keep me up to date with further publications. Love Maria. X
Thank you so much. It's my first foray into kindle publishing, so it's a steep learning curve.
So glad to hear you liked it, that means the world to me.
The next book is well underway. If you want a sneak peak, the first half is up here:
CROSSFIRE
I'm estimating a July release on Amazon, bit I'm making good progress. And have the first proofs for the potential cover.
