Anyway don’t mind me over here finding the process of a character having their armor put on them piece by piece one of the single most narratively sexy things in all of fake medieval fantasy. Literally the only thing that could be more sexy to me than this is if it was Viren personally arming him, I’d die happy suffocating under the weight of the metaphor.

I find it impossible to like Runaan, no matter how much soft backstory they give him, because he’s just… such an asshole. Like, what does Ethari see in this guy? Is his dick that bomb?

Like literally I was thinking back in ep2 or whatever, “oh, he’s sidelining Rayla to save her life, because now that their element of surprise is gone he expects the rest of them all to die” and now he’s just fucking firing arrows at her. “Your justice will come later,” please. No wonder this girl is so fucked up.

There's something here I don't think we've talked about.

Now this is not a discussion of who was right or wrong. Their situations were different and they both handled it to the best of their abilities/means.

What we haven't talked about is helping people against their will.

Callum's brother/friends were willing to lose a hand to prevent Callum from using dark magic. Rayla specifically told him not to do it again. Does that make him wrong to do it? Well, he didn't have many great options or time, being trapped on a ship with a coldblooded pirate who's using Rayla for bait at that very moment.

Amaya was not willing to give up the sun seed because she knew Janai valued it more than her own life. But since Karim was not right there and Janai was still a bargaining chip, there was time to formulate a plan before he even knew something was wrong.

The question is what would they do in each other's situations?

If Callum had time to plan a daring escape, would he still use dark magic? If Amaya was put in a split second decision between Janai's life or the seed, would she still keep it? The short answer is, we don't know.

I think we can safely assume that Callum would try for the rescue. And we would naturally assume that Amaya would not hand over the seed due to Janai's wishes/the greater good. BUT, we don't know know that for sure.

We've seen Amaya put the greater good above her family before when she left for the Breach instead of going after her nephews...but she didn't have to write them off, either. We've never seen her back against the wall when deciding the fate of her loved ones, there's always been that third option. Let the invaders in or give up on nephews? Naw, Corvus is tracking them and Gren can lead a rescue team. Lose Janai or keep the sun seed/future of the Sunfire? Nope, go in disguise and rescue her.

So now I'm curious if Amaya would make a decision closer to Callum's? Would she help Janai against her will, breaking her heart by loosing the future of her people, if she had two options like her nephew had?

I was wondering what your thoughts are on the Soren+corvus ship, and if you think they will be canon?

Ah Sorvus!! I do have some thoughts (spark notes edition)

I didn't ship them too much post-S3 (I was more into Gren/Corvus or Corvus/Opeli and was also reading Corvus as closer to 24 than 20) but I thought they were cute. Like, a passive ship-not-ship y'know? Then I accidentally made myself ship them when writing a very brief interaction between them in S2 divergent fic (if heaven and hell decide, which is not Sorvus focused at all) and upon rewatches, largely cause their personalities have a nice contrast and they do have implied shared history (potentially went to camp together?)

But I figured that if Soren was going to end up with anyone in canon, and if Corvus stayed on the crownguard (since post s3, we weren't sure if he'd stay with Ez - my preferred - or go back to serving under Amaya), it'd probably be Corvus.

I ship them for a few different reasons:

Shared goals/loyalties. They won't have to worry or stress about picking their duty (Ezran) over each other in a tense scenario because it's a shared understanding and choice.

Personality contrast while still getting along and being friendly with one another

Acceptance/history, i.e. Corvus has seen Soren at both his worst (early to mid S2) and his best (wanting to protect people in 2x07 and helping Ezran in 3x05). Corvus is also one of the few people in the show to remark positively on Soren's intelligence ("Credit where credit is due: Soren was the mastermind") outside of Claudia's one "you're a genius" line in S1 about a joke pun.

But yeah, I do think they'll be canon, just cause they're clearly close (early S4), the general gay vibes of "changing of the guard" (a pre-s4 canon short story in which Soren asks Corvus to join said crownguard), have shared goals, and it may only be as a background pairing/couple, but they kinda fit organically enough that they don't need a ton of time to develop as a couple. Plus I'm down for anything that fleshes out Corvus more! Overall they're a very sweet pair and I'm excited to see more of them going forward

So I've watched the first three seasons of TDP a while ago, randomly decided it needed a rewatch, somehow realised it got two additional seasons while i wasn't looking and now I need a place to vent my random thoughts.

I watched around a season a day and i just have to watch the se3 finale tomorrow and I'll catch up with what I've seen so far. When I see the 4th and 5th seasons I'll probably going to start spewing a lot of random shit so beware.

First of all. FIRST EPISODE AND CLAUDIA IS READING LOVE AMONGST THE DRAGONS?!

Second. I shipped Amaya and Janai hard the first time around already but this is so good. Like Janai's sister dying? Prolly my favourite scene so far. (Btw I'm spoiler free for seasons 4 and 5 except i googled ship name for them and saw a picture of them kissing so i know that's canon. Would honestly feel cheated and insulted if it wasn't.) Also the translator is such a cinnamon roll.

There are sooo many lovable characters in this series. I love Amaya and Soren most I think but everyone has such good arcs!!

Like Claudia being manipuated by Viren? I really like how her corruption comes from her love for Viren. I also loved how Soren is seen as the slower one out of them but she's more naive when it comes to their father.

The scene where Soren leaves her and she says "Don’t make me choose! Not again."? Right in the feels man.

Also sending my love to Bait! The guy deserves some love! I felt really bad for him during that scene on the ship when he felt like he was replaced by Zym and then when Callum invited him to come and he was so happy?? Like my heart? And then he basically goes and becomes a parental figure to Zym.

Oh that reminds me. What was the captain's name? I can't remember but i recognised it in those texts in the beginning when important people who work on the series are written so. Fun.

Also Gren is so random but I hope we'll see more of him. Loved his friendship with Amaya even if it had like two minutes of screentime.

I'm trying to think of everything that went through my head during the watching. Um.

Oh! Aaravos (is that correct?) What's up with that dude? And I didn't go back to check but in Harrow's letter to Callum he said that cube is a key sth connected to Aavaros and that he's a powerful mage and knows all six arcanums? So I'm wondering where that'll go. But he'll prolly be the final villain instead of Viren? We'll see ig. And a stupid thought but i just imagined him being somehow stuck in the cube? And my brain automatically got the idea that to open it all six sides must be activated(glowing) at the same time? I dunno what my brain is on atm but this exists in my head now.

And what happened with Ezran's abdication? Like why did he do it? What did anyone gain from that? Were the others supposed to leave them alone just because he did it? Dunno.

Also Aanya is so cool. Really love how she has a brain you know?

Also who was the guy who first deserted when the option was offered? Cause I know we saw him before but idk where. Wait he's not the guy Rayla spared is he? That would make some sense but i know we see the guy who deserts at least once in the throne room? I'm confused.

Also all kings and queens are dead so who's leading all the other armies beside Kasef(is it Kasef?)? Why don't we meet them?

Also Corvus is great and I love how he just goes along with everything Ezran does. You're a weird king Ezran.

This is so random but how was that vet supposed to know how fast an unhatched dragon's heartbeat is supposed to be? Just seemed funny to me.

Also i think the first time around i didn't like Soren in the beginning but now i loved him from the first scene when he helps Callum show off in front of Claudia.

I'll be back in the morning but right now I'll have to finish this rant cause i went to bed like two hours ago and couldn't sleep so this happened lmao.

I just finished writing the first vip panel with Rhona Rees, Paula Burrows, Jack De Sena and Omari Newton. My old post was erased (but I posted it again), I don't know what's wrong with my computer or this app, but if I try to minimize the page it erases everything I had written, so sorry for the double post. This is only the first part.

I've written the questions like the moderator asked them:

Rhona, who did you have a chance to work with in the booth and be next to and then we’ll go Omari and then Paula.

Rhona: I think most of the core cast were there when I got a chance to join in..Um..Paula, Racquel, Jesse, Omari you were in the booth for one of my episodes I believe. Jason, Sasha, yeah and first time I’d met Jack as well so, I mean, this was pre-pandemic, these days we’re all recording separately and it has made a real difference..Um.. recording cartoons is one the most joyful things you can do and I know that I don’t know how you guys have felt recording separately but it’s not the same, I miss the magic of being able to bounce off each other’s energy.

Omari: It’s sad. I would agree with you, like most of the main cast was there when I went in, you know? And I think we had a day where we overlapped but I’m trying to think now..Had this show been cast in this covid times? I don’t know if it would have had the same magic it does, if we did not all get to know each other and riff off each other... It is so much of the show, especially a show that relies on kind of humor and heart, relies on the connection with other people so yeah, I really miss it too.

Rhona: Yeah, and that connection, you know, between Paula and Jack’s characters, how do you build that when you’re not recording together and you’re not even hearing the delivery of the other people, like I think it’s great that you guys already have that established, so that if we move forward and things still aren’t ensemble, you’ve already established that connection and you know you can probably predict maybe how things are gonna go

Paula: Yeah, yeah. I mean, we’re being so lucky on this show like I don’t know, we usually record in a big U, so we’re all sort of shoulder to shoulder, I have Jack on one side and Jason on the other, so Callum and Viren, but across from me is Sasha and Omari are usually across from me as well, so you’re your scenes with people..Um..I don’t know, this is a new world going forward. I haven’t done any animation recording only solo records, throughout the pandemic I’ve only done commercial so I haven’t really experienced it yet, but in terms of recording The Dragon Prince, the only people I didn’t get to record with were the sunfire elves and Aaravos.

Are there other ships besides Rayllum..Um.. What is that ship with their aunt that’s deaf and…

Paula and Jack: Amaya?

Yeah! that's a ship, right?

Paula: they’re a thing

Jack: I think that’s certainly shippable if it’s not canonically a ship.

Omari: Someone sent a video of Corvus and Soren like they edited it and put it on youtube and I was like “Oh!”

Jack: I’m sure with Callum, I’m sure people, you know, there’s a Claudia thing as well but I always felt like-

Paula: Excuse me?

Jack (laughs): There was, but then they go on a date at the moon nexus.

Do they?

Jack: Yeah, kind of, and then she tells them his dad died so it’s not like a great date, it doesn’t go super well.

Paula: Was that a date or like a kidnapping?

Jack: I think Callum thought it was maybe a date

Rhona: I feel like a lot of my dates go “is this a date or a kidnapping?”

Omari: The fine line, right Rhona?

I think this is my favorite (Janaya’s picture), whether or not it felt like it and I loved Gren’s smile in the background.

Jack: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Paula: I have never looked so happy.

Right? So are there any others, like shipping Callum with different people seems really...It’s very clear that Rayla and Callum are a thing.

Jack: Yeah.

Rhona: I mean, when I was recording, me and Jesse were joking that Nyx and Soren would be a fun ship because they both kind of had this kind of slightly…(sorry, I couldn't hear what she said because someone talked at the same time and her audio wasn’t the best…) They never interact yet in the show but like let’s just throw it out into the universe and see what comes back.

Paula: I would like to see Bait fall in love.

Jack: Aww…

Rhona: With jelly tarts?

Jack: (laughs) Yeah, he has already.

Any other ships? No?

Jack: I mean, do people ship in sort of like a backstory way? Do people ship Harrow and Viren? Because I definitely have that mentioned.

Paula: right?

Jack: I think it’s a very textured friendship thing but I think there’s plenty to read the other way if you-

With Viren I could see but do you honestly think that-

Jack: I think that’s maybe more what I think...yeah I think it’s more.

Paula: There’s something that can be perceived as very saucy between the two of them.

Jack: There’s a vibe.

What is your favorite moment in the show? Rhona, and then Omari, and then Paula and then Jack.

Rhona: I think the moment when Rayla is meeting her... like ancestors by the pool, I don’t know how to describe..do you know that scene I’m talking about?

Jack: It’s the moon nexus, right? She’s like through the memories.

Rhona:Yeah, that was beautiful. I think that or when you guys have all those little fuzzy. What are those little fuzzy..?

Jack: Adoraburrs? Is that what they’re called?

Paula: They are adorable.

Rhona:Yes! I think those... That was like such a sweet moment and then, yeah, I really remember that. I really remember that moon nexus scene as being so emotional and beautiful and mature. (I think they may be talking about the Silvergrove scene?)

How I feel about this character: while i like kazi and they are very sweet, i don’t feel connected to them yet as much as i wanna feel, because they had very little screentime in this season. i really hope to see more of them and their personality next season, and hopefully we’ll see them bonding with janai and helping her as queen ♥

All the people I ship romantically with this character: gren and corvus! but gren more

My non-romantic OTP for this character: non romantic? hmm i want them to expend their friendship with amaya, that would be cute

My unpopular opinion about this character: not really an unpopular opinion but i saw a very few people saying that their concept art was a bad example of nonbinary people, because their earlier “version” looked very much cis (or cis-presenting) and while i’m not nonbinary, i don’t think there’s anything wrong with gender passing nonbinary people? they don’t owe you androgyny. that being said, i do hope we’ll see more of kazi personality outside of being very shy and timid

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: i wish we saw them in the storm spire! they were there, but in the background of one scene. i really hope to actually see them teaching janai some asl and interpreting for her when she talks to amaya

Result Discussion: Favorite Ships (part 2)

CW: This discussion contains mentions of three ships which some people might not be comfortable with (sibling incest and adult/teen relationships). Only their shipnames are mentioned - the nature of these relationships is not discussed in any way.

Some terminology:

I will refer to the Total Ships as TS and Favorite Ships as FS.

The method I decided to use

So here’s a method, which, albeit less intuitive, is still more accurate.

My boyfriend suggested normalizing the ranks, i.e. making the ranks of both lists proportionally equivalent.

This means that there is no need to manually group anything together and it doesn’t matter if we have two lists of 14 vs 40 ranks or 14 vs 40 000 ranks.

This method still has issues of its own:

not as straightforward to interpret;

ships appear to have fallen in rank even though they didn’t (esp. for Janaya and Ruthari).

This is the formula that we used:

where

r_n is normalized rank;

r is the current rank of a given ship;

R is the lowest possible rank of a list.

So, for example, if we normalize Gremaya’s rank in the FS list, it’ll be:

5 is Gremaya’s current rank in the FS table;

14 is the lowest possible rank for FS.

Just like with a regular rank, the normalized rank is highest when its numerical value is lowest.

This is what we got:

You can see that the very first place (Rayllum) remains the same for both lists, as well as the very last place (everything ranked 100). My boyfriend also suggested adding a color scale - the darker the color, the higher the ship’s rank.

I also colored some of the ships:

light blue means the relative rank of the ship has not changed;

green means the ship has risen in rank;

white means the ship has dropped in rank;

yellow means the ship has massively dropped in rank (by at least 40 points).

I felt that it was important to point out the very huge falls, because many of them nicely correspond with some of my conclusions from the TS results (I’ll get to that in a sec).

I think this is the most intuitive visual representation of how different ships changed in rank:

the red dots are the ranks the ships had on the TS list;

the blue dots are the ranks they have on the FS list.

So that means:

red done above blue? - The ship fell in rank;

red dot only - the rank hasn’t changed;

red dot below blue? - The ship climbed up in rank.

Interestingly enough, only two ships actually improved their position!

It is no surprise that Rayllum remained at rank #1 considering how much this ship is loved by the fans. Janaya and Ruthari didn’t move their position either, but the "weight” of their ranks slightly reduced in a smaller list of options.

Virex, Aarathari and Aaravum are the other ships that retained their position, but I think it’s more of a coincidence than something systematic.

Because the FS list is so much shorter than the TS list, most ships appear to have dropped in position, even if they didn’t (such as Janaya and Ruthari). And that makes the two ships that went up even more interesting!

Sordia went up by 17.8 points and Raydium - by 2.5. Both are small ships with not many voters:

Sordia - 10 TS votes, 6 FS votes;

Raydium - 3 TS votes, 2 FS votes,

yet the voters are pretty consistent - the majority of people who voted for these ships in TS chose them as their favorite ships. Sordia is particularly impressive in this regard, seeing how incredibly loyal its shippers are!

Ships which fell in rank the most

I chose the ships that fell by at least 40 points. The list is arranged from the biggest fall to the smallest:

Sabos fell by 84 points

Harrai fell by 76 points

Laidrin fell by 74 points

Grenvus fell by 51 points

Corpeli fell by 48 points

Kaudia fell by 48 points

Kasren fell by 41 points

We can immediately see that the top three ships were in the top 10 on the Total Ships list and they fell the most. It makes sense when you think about why these ships got so high in the first place. In addition to my vague word choice in the original questionnaire, these ships are either canon (Harrai, Laidrin) or include side characters that are not part of any popular ships (Sabos, Corpeli).

Sabos is especially fascinating, as it’s not only a non-canon ship, it’s a ship involving characters that got their names from fans! They do have a scene together that could be seen as “shippy”, which explains why so many people jumped on that wagon as opposed to, say, Sorcos.

The same goes for Corpeli. Gren and Corvus are canonically friends, but they don’t have any significant scenes together, while Corvus literally holds Opeli’s hand.

Speaking of Grenvus (and also - Kaudia and Kasren), they weren’t as high on the Total Ships list as the aforementioned ships, but all of them seem to have fallen from roughly the middle to the bottom of the list. I guess they just don’t have large fanbases.

We begin with Callum now fiddling with the cube he possesses. I’m interested in how this key works as well. Rayla describing how her Moonshadow powers works was probably an over-exaggeration, but it was entertaining as hell. Meanwhile, Soren and Claudia still have Corvus and are taking him to jail. Soren was almost fooled into letting Corvus out from the ropes; he’s a dolt for real.

It looks like they’re going to take a secret path to get to Xadia. I’m sorry, I know they talked about Callum’s desires to be a mage again and all, but this scene. This was a ship scene between these two. I’m quickly becoming trash for these two. Back on topic, they saw a dragon and it seems to be trailing them. Not a good sign.

So, Soren and Claudia have made it to a town that is being intimidated by a dragon. And Soren wants to instigate a fight against the dragon. This sounds like such a terrible idea. And it was because he made it angry as hell. And it is causing destruction on this town.

Well, Claudia was prepared and was able to make it so they would hit the dragon with a ballista. Soren reluctantly thanked her for being so prepared. Ezran ran to the downed dragon with a swiftness. Oh! Maybe this dragon will be able to help Zym out with being a dragon! Oh yeah, they let Corvus go. Let’s see if he tries to leave or not.

Viren is about to be punished for his little stunt. Good. Let him have some consequences. And Soren and Claudia have secured the dragon. Claudia took great pride in taking down the dragon instead of Soren as this wasn’t something she cared about while this was one of Soren’s life goals. But Callum, Rayla, and Ezran left the dragon behind, and this is tearing Rayla up inside. I feel like she’s going to try and save the dragon.

I legit do not want to know the applications of dragon snot. That’s disgusting. But Rayla is indeed going back to save the dragon because that’s what she feels is right. Callum feels like crap that he can’t help her, but I think he’s going to go anyway.

Rayla’s still trying to free this dragon, but it’s not going so well. She can cut the ropes but not the chains. And Claudia wants to use her to get to the princes. Callum took that job away from her though and used one of her dark magic spells to get the chains off the dragon. It knocked him out, but he did it. The dragon is now free and ready to get revenge on Soren and his the other guards

And it did take its revenge and slammed his ass into a large rock. The dragon stopped her rampage when she saw Zym though and flew off, likely to tell the other dragons that Zym is alive. Claudia was almost about to take Zym from Ezran, but stopped when Soren called out to her. Holy shit, that last hit paralyzed him. Oh my God…

I didn’t mention it before, but Gren is the most chill prisoner ever. But Viren is ready to complete the spell. And it led to… a bug. Okay, a bit of a letdown. Oh wait, the bug is a way for Viren to hear the voice inside the mirror. Interesting. The person wants to serve Viren. That’s worse than anything I think I’ve heard this season.

I wasn’t tagged...but I saw this and I had to fill it out. I am obligated by my own laws about quiz taking to do so. Sorry. (I read from the one I got this from that it was made by @ true-neutral-earth-elf)

#1. Which Primal Source Do you identify most with? Why?

The official quiz said Ocean, and I agree. At least for now.

Moon is a good second guess though.

#2. Elves or Humans?

Dragons. *shot* Uh...I can’t really choose right now. We’ve only seen the human side of the conflict so far. I want to see the elf side of things before I choose a side.

#3. If you had to choose, would you rather free Runaan from the coin or Aaravos from the mirror?

...I know I’m basically an Aarahoe...and it’s very obvious by the era title “Return of Aaravos” he’s going to break free...but I still don’t know if that’s a good thing or not.

But Runaan...I’ll get into my opinion on him later. I’ll just say the one reason I’d have for freeing him right now is because of Rayla. If she asked, I’d try.

#4. Best animal companion?

Oh don’t make me choose! Um, Bait is the obvious choice because he’s got the most personality. Ava’s also a good girl though...and Phoe-Phoe is a beautiful Moon Phoenix! Oh and then there’s the Aarapod/Wormavos...but if I had to choose, I guess Bait.

That’s also a tough one...Sarai seems like a good choice, based on what we saw of her...but almost every death in this show is for a reason that leads to major story choices. So...probably no one.

Please note this is my opinion. Not yours. If you disagree, that’s fine, but none of my choices are meant to be controversial.

Rayllum. I don’t care if they end up canon, not to the extent I’ll meme or throw a fit or something if it does or doesn’t, but they have the best chemistry I’ve seen in a cartoon in a while.

Other pairings I like:

Amaya x Gren-This is very unlikely given the age gap...I know they’re just close friends as we’ve seen, but it seems nice as a background ship to me.

Harrow x Sarai-Do I need to explain?

Harrow x Viren-Again, I know they were just friends but...it’s also a nice thought. What if they were? You know? (Alternatively: Harrow, Sarai, and Viren could be interesting to think about in an AU too)

Viren x Aaravos-Not super into this one...because this is a Toxic relationship with a capital T if you only look at canon footage. But the fandom has made some interesting “What if it was like this” content...and I love both Viren and Aaravos as characters. Just not their dynamic so far.

Aaravos x Reader/Self-Insert/OC-Aaravos x Anyone really, but I love the self-inserts and “x Reader” stories and headcanons. I’m a part of the problem of course...but that’s beside the point.

Viren x Reader/Self-Insert/OC-I see less of him than any of the main cast in this area, for good reason, but what I have seen...I support you and wish there was more out there. He wasn’t always who he is now.

#8. Unpopular opinion?

1.) Ok, probably the most unpopular...I’m not a huge Runaan fan. I don’t dislike him, don’t get me wrong. I’m just kind of indifferent. I like that he’s an uncle figure to Rayla and that’s really sweet...but I’m just not as interested in him or Tinker as what looks to be a lot of the fandom. Again, I don’t dislike them at all, but I don’t have strong feelings yet either. (That is a bit hypocritical since I know just as much, if not less, about Aaravos...but he intrigues me. There are so many mysteries surrounding him and he’s being built up big time...starting with his role as narrator. I’m not seeing that with Runaan. Sorry.)

2.) Viren is my favorite character, hands down. He’s the most interesting and such a refreshing take on an old idea. I don’t love to hate him for this either, like I do a lot of my favorite villains in the media I consume. I genuinely like him as a character, and that adds to my conflict on how to feel about Aaravos...

3.) I really hope Harrow isn’t Pip (the bird.) I think Pip escaped, but it’s not Harrow. It’s just Pip...whom Ezran can still communicate with if they go that route.

I also hope Callum isn’t half-elf. I don’t know if that’s unpopular, but it just feels like an easy way out. The show doesn’t feel like they’d do that when they’re trying to say Dark Magic is an easy way out, a short cut instead of spending years learning runes and the philosophy of the magic you study.

#9. Favorite headcanon?

More of a theory...but the one that Crowmaster is an Earthblood elf in disguise. I really like that.

Also all the Aaravos headcanons. Some are super cute, others are fuel for my angsty, sadistic writer’s heart.

#10. Best siblings pair?

Both the Broyals and the One Brain Cell Siblings. I won’t choose between them, they’re both great.

#11. Who’s your Queen?

...We haven’t seen the Dragon Queen yet...so I won’t say her in case she’s insane from grief or something... Uh...man, I don’t know. I’ll stay undecided for now.

#13. Be honest, do you have the guts to use dark magic?

The guts? Maybe. The drive? Not really. My only reason to use it would be to test my theory if everyone goes through what Callum did when he used it. That weird dream where he had to choose. But that’s coming from someone that knows the consequences of Dark Magic and all the comparisons being made about it.

It’s like smoking, it’s like cancer, and for me it’s like killing household pests. When I started out, I was very hesitant about how hard to swat when killing flies that got in the house. Now, I use full force from so much time doing so. It got easier and easier and now it’s almost second nature.

That’s how I would describe the use of Dark Magic. Why it’s so easy for Viren to kill with it, why it gets easier for Claudia to as well...just my thoughts.

I’m not sure yet. Rayla’s the only one that hasn’t insulted humanity in some way so far...but because I’m biased and thirsty: Aaravos (XD)

Does Thunder count? I mean look at that beard! *shot* I dunno...I like them all. But Harrow, Viren, and Aaravos (ofc) stand out most when I think about hairstyles.

#18. Viren; misguided, evil, or actually the good guy?

It’s hard to say right now...everyone raises some good points...but it’s too early to say. Is he just power-hungry? Seeking control? Wants to take control of the East side, the magical side of Xadia, for a selfish reason? Or was he being honest when he claimed to love the kingdom? That war is coming and they need to take action?

What we know from the creators is Viren’s main goal or dream is to “get his name in the history books” though I could have worded that wrong. Basically I’ll just say...he’s clearly the villain. Maybe he didn’t start out that way, but by now he’s definitely willing to do whatever it takes to get his way. Is it a good cause? I don’t know yet...but I can’t say he’s a good guy or the Good Guy at this point.

#19. Would you rather fly with Phoe-Phoe, hike with Corvus, sail with Villads, or stay home with Opeli?

I would love to fly, but Villads is just the best...and I like Corvus but I hate hiking...Phoe-Phoe or Villads.

Isn’t it obvious? Viren, of course. *shot* I mean like I said...I like him...but it’s obviously Aaravos.

It’s hard to choose just one... All Viren and Aaravos’ scenes are great...but I’ll go with the scene where Callum is reading King Harrow’s letter. That is my favorite moment.

A more humorous answer: Anything with Villads, but I love his introduction.

I mean who am I to judge? I think people that complain about “bad poetry” need to lighten up about it.

- First thing off the bat, Callum is Vanya 100% you can’t change my mind

- Who is 5? Aanya. 100%; Aanya could and would stab a bitch for a good reason. And would be smart enough and more than willing to sass Viren (as we’ve already seen) (First i thought Ezran but Emi was like Em no Aanya and my whole world went upside down bc yes)

- So who is Reginald Hargreeves you ask? Of course it’s Viren, who else?

- Soren is Luther. Just the whole muscle, strong, big masculine shit but not being experienced in any sort of thing and being awkward is just- it’s Soren ok? But also being a sweet sunshine child(also Soren I’m so sorry I kinda dislike Luthor but you wouldn’t be as much of a complainey boy as him dw)

- Rayla? Diego? Knives? Sass? Fed up with Soren? Vigilante? Need I say more?

- Ezran is Allison but without the whole Allison Luthor shit bc number 1 ew incest and number 2 ew Soren is Luthor in this, hell to the no. Instead of I heard a rumour, it’s “a little bird told me” because of his connection to animals. This also plays into the whole Allison and Vanya sibling-ship, with Callum and Ezran. Callum finally snaps bc he hurt Ezran and he would never do that.

- Callum is Vanya bc of the whole “I’m not special, oh wait I am” stuff, also the whole artistic side, so instead of the violin, it’s his paintings (plus I can imagine Harrai with the whole pool scene at the beginning). Also the whole being confined thing similar to the whole dream sequence he had. And the panic attacks, etc.

- Hazel and Cha Cha are Runaan and Aaravos respectively, and Runaan falls for Tinker which will never not be cute

- Only problem is who is klaus and ben but then it hit me, Corvus is 100% Ben. Just the whole ‘do i really have to do this?’ and ‘can we go home now?’ and just being a soft book boy, but also being fucking badass at the same time

- I was so torn between Corvus being Dave and Gren being Ben but Emi and I went with Corvus bc I have more ideas with Dave!Gren. With the whole Corvus and Ben being like kind of sarcastic and physically punching her because he’s her right hand man, and someone she; “after countless battles and secret missions, Corvus earned Amaya’s trust forever” (thanks tdp official website), which brings me to who I want to be Klaus-

- Amaya. No, she doesn’t turn to drugs. No, she doesn’t go into rehab. She puts her efforts down into fighting, into being a true member of the Umbrella Academy. She and Soren are the Umbrella Academy team that stay behind. But Viren benches her for being too violent, letting her emotions take control.

- In this au Amaya becomes deaf from an explosion that killed her sister. She doesn’t start out adopted as a baby by Viren, and instead joins when her parents realise she can see her sister’s ghost.

- The three ghosts she sees the most are; Gren, Sarai and Corvus. It’s Sarai that kept her company, guiding her while Gren was still alive, and helping her make friends with him when she had no others. It’s Corvus she becomes friends with- a soft spoken tracker who has a talent for fighting and shares her interests and oh my gosh he knows sign language. And give me the angst where Amaya can’t call or signal for a medic bc no one else knows sign language- and give me Gren signing ‘I love you’ as his last words to her, and saying them as he signs them.

- Mom is still mom bc I love her and I wish she was my mom (me? not talking to my actual mom? it’s more likely than you think)

- Pogo is Harrow, but like instead of a monkey he’s a human sized bird humanoid that was originally called Pip- do you see where I’m going with this ;)

- Janai just is the handler but she wears suits instead of dresses bc Janai is a suit kinda woman thank you very much

- Claudia is Leonard bc she has a thing with Callum and also she wanted to be a part of the Umbrella Academy but Viren said that her powers were too dark and she escaped when he tried to contain her and dampen her powers like with Callum

- She knows about Callum’s powers because she remembers going through training with him bc they were the most dangerous and she remembers that he had powers so she’s confused when he shows up and just...doesn’t?

- Also I live for dark!claudia

This is all we have so far but we’ll probably make a part 2 soon

Things I want in the next season(s) of The Dragon Prince

More episodes: Like a lot of people, I felt the pacing could be a bit...off sometimes. I thought they did a good job for such a small number of episodes, but they were just trying to fit too much story in not enough time. It’s a good show, but with enough room to breath and let the world and characters shine, it could be a great show.

Gren and Runaan make a break for it: I agree with everyone who thinks these two interacting would be hilarious. It seems like hopes are dashed given what happens to Runaan at the end of the season, but consider....Gren knows where Runaan is. He probably can’t get him out of there, and presumably a disembodied soul stuck in a coin can’t make sounds. But we know they can be seen, and Gren sure has a lot of practice with speech that’s seen and not heard. Think of the possibilities for human/Xadian relations if a diplomat has to spend a bunch of time teaching a high ranking elven assassin ASL

Dragons speaking Latin: Draconic seems to be or be based on Latin (although I still think Callum’s “fulminus” spell should be “fulminare” but the Latin nerds can correct me if I’m wrong). Really, they’ve gotten their language nerd credit for doing accurate ASL, and when your target audience is 12 you can’t really expect a lot of exchanges that require subtitles, but just a little snippet would be fun.

Also more dragons: Like seriously, why is that cool dragon on the poster and in the opening and not in the season proper?

More Amaya: No explanation necessary. It would also be nice to just low key make sure kids know she’s by no means helpless without Gren. Other people on her staff must speak ASL if for no other reason than the man must take leave or get sick sometimes, and a general needs to be understood. Also, in the real world ASL is an honest to god language, part of an honest to god language family that goes back ages, with a not insignificant number of native and second language speakers. Normalize it. I also look forward to the inevitable debate about whether a conversation can pass the Bechdel test if one of the women in it is not speaking verbally, or if she’s using a male interpreter.

Flashbacks to Sarai and Amaya kicking ass together: No explanation necessary.

Xadian landscapes: I want more pretties to look at.

Callum and Gren interact: this would be kind of extra, because it’s pretty clear that Callum’s character arc is going to involve gaining confidence through learning magic, but I think it would be nice for him to have a heart to heart with an older man whos talents lie in an area other than fighting.

Ezran's charm offensive: Will prejudiced Xadians be able to resist this kid? I think not.

Soren and Claudia fight: I feel like this is inevitable should they ever catch up with the princes, given their father deliberately misleading both of them about their mission objective. The question is, who is on which side? It seems like the obvious choice for Soren to try and hurt the princes and Claudia to protect them, but he’s pretty upset by the suggestion he should kill them, and he may be a jerk, but he fills an older brother role for Callum and presumably has sworn some kind of loyalty to the royal family as a Crownguard. Claudia doesn’t know about the order to kill the princes, but on the other hand she’s been shown to be more ruthless than her brother and is more on board with her father’s agenda generally. I sense conflict born of miscommunication in their future, although I’m hoping that eventually they talk it out and both join Team Egg against their dad.

Corvus: This guy is awesome. More please.

Viren...explain: I have a whole lot of thoughts about Viren, and the things he does, and why so many of the things he does don’t seem to make a lot of sense, so I’ll save it for another post. And one thing I kinda hope I don’t see: I get the appeal of the Gremaya ship (although I feel like the fandom is wasting an opportunity by not calling it “Amen”). They obviously care about each other, they work together seamlessly, there’s a lot of trust, and the goofy vs. serious dynamic is always fun. I won’t exactly be sad if they’re a couple by the end of the show but...I think her being his immediate superior makes it weird. I also get the impression she’s older than him, possibly by a lot. That wouldn’t be weird in and of itself, but combine it with the fact that she’s his boss and that makes for something that would have a weird power dynamic in real life. I’m also generally on board for more fiction where a man and a woman can just be super close without it being romantic. I’d love it if not every character is shoehorned into a heteronormative romance just because they’re the opposite sex and get along.

i dont really ship them tbh but i think the character dynamic is interesting:

we know Soren knew Corvus, being that close in age they might have even worked together at some point. soren probably met the other people in Corvus’s orbit while still very young, and for a lot of people it’s a zone that’s difficult or impossible to get out of once established. that means Gren and Soren met as seasoned soldier + rookie brat, it would be charming to see it grow into something more meaningful the more Soren matures, but from what we see on the show, Soren probably blew it by choosing to please his father rather than do the right thing, and Gren isn’t lacking in other possible mates (or have no mates at all).

i could see a teen Soren hanging out with the other soldiers and them humoring him, Gren seems like he’s good with kids and would treat Soren kindly, something Soren might misunderstand as romantic interest and being the emotionally starved lad that he is, would soak it up like a sponge and beg for more. thankfully, Gren is a diplomat with a nat20 on optimism so there is literally nothing soren could say that would insult gren!

i’m interested in more canon (or general fanon) interactions between them, but not romantically, mostly because their natures are too different and it would be one-sided. Soren is an over achiever and Gren is a chill dude with nothing to prove, Soren is allied with Viren and Gren is loyal to Amaya who absolutely hates Viren 😂

i was just rewatching the scene in season 1 and it seems like Gren doesn’t consider Soren an authority at all 😂 sorry little bro you’re gonna have to grow up and out of your dad’s shadow to catch his eye!
