I feel like Zukka getting together and divorced Zukka are actually much less interesting than "adults in an established relationship" Zukka.

People who love each other struggle! They have challenges to work through—individually and together. And seeing love endure through that is so moving.

Sokka supporting Zuko through his body issues. Zuko loving Sokka through his anxiety and depression. Learning how to love each other better. I want long fics like novels where we see that.

the fucked up thing about sokka refusing the proposal and leaving zuko because he was too afraid that he would be stuck in the fire nation for the rest of his life is that not even zuko wanted to be stuck in the fire nation his whole life. he doesn’t have the choice sokka does, he can’t just up and leave from this position because it’s his job, it’s his whole life. and maybe sokka thinks to himself “maybe this was the right choice for myself, i had the right to be selfish about this but i left him there all alone” and maybe zuko is happy in a strange way that sokka left, that he doesn’t have to carry this burden as well and WHAT THE FUCK AM I SAYING I CO-MADE THE DIVORCEVERSE

zuko keeps the letters that he had sokka write before and during their marriage locked in a cabinet. he keeps those letters in a locked cabinet, aware that, no matter how much time has passed, it would plunge them into an abyss of grief, yearning, and regret so deep that it would be hard to compose himself again.

but when times get tough, meetings devolve into heated arguments rather than constructive discussions, and the feelings of isolation intensify, he opens the cabinet. and despite how incredibly bittersweet it is, he reads them. it brings him back to a simpler time when he was able to talk to sokka without this unbearable distance between the two, they provided him solace, like a comforting embrace, the fire inside of him resembling that of a campfire, keeping him warm. tears at the end were inevitable, but he finds happiness in these memories.

Sokka and Izumi’s relationship doomed to get complicated as she grows up and wow if it isn’t too uncomfortably similar to Sokka’s relationship to his own dad as a teenager
