I still have $700 leftover in Amazon money. Which sounds like a lot. But it's difficult when I'm trying to decide between spending it on a:
Swarovski ballerina ornament (I've been dreaming of one, but I'm also worried it will get smashed during shipping so idk)
IPL Epilator
Loungefly gingham Bambi backpack and clutch
Loungefly storybook bags
Dior lip oil
Dipthyque candle set
A bunch of Pandora charms to finally finish my bracelet
Hot Chocolate Marie Antoinette shoes
Cardcaptor Sakura Manga box set
A new phone (mine is only two years old and mostly still works fine, but I dropped it on the floor a couple of months ago and ever since it's started flashing green across the screen in bright light. It's okay apart from that, but it's a bit annoying trying to use it on a sunny day sometimes)
Some collector barbies to add to my (admittedly small) collection
Pink Phillips Sonicare toothbrush
Some pretty hardback versions of classic novels
More Red Velvet albums (maybe Sunmi, Twice, or Blackpink albums too)
Sailor Moon figures
Chanel Coco Rouge Lipstick
More Switch games
Tarot Nefertari
Pink Coach bag
More Switch games (I only have ACNH and Stardew Valley)
Sakura Miku figure
Fresh Sugar lip treatment gift set
Plush velvety jewellery box
More Ghibli art books (I only have The Tale of the Princess Kaguya one)
Non-fictional books on fashion, historical women, or goddesses from ancient societies
Swarovski swan necklace
I've already ordered: a Mona Lisa Barbie, cherry blossom bonsai lego set, Sailor Moon manga box set, heart shaped Kate Spade bag in pink, a rose gold fitbit, and a PMD Smart Facial Cleansing Device in berry.
Do I need any of this stuff? No. Would it make me happy? Yes. Would it be better to buy one or two expensive items with the money like the Swarovski ballerina, the Coach bag, or the Cardcaptor Sakura box set, or a lot of cheaper items like the books, along with the lipsticks and a Pandora charm or two? Who knows.
Do I have to make up my mind soon because I don't want to order stuff at various points later on and be waiting for packages throughout the entire first half of 2023? Yes
One thing getting 1500 in Amazon money has thought me is that there's a lot of stuff I want. I already knew that, but not that there's so much stuff I like on Amazon specifically.

sweet merms, please don't feel pressured to answer my other ask! <3 re: that /specific/ aesthetic you're talking about, i totally get it—it's such a vibe!!! i wish there was a name for it? the only thing that comes to mind now is like, expensive bimbo (all that dior can't be cheap...) LOL. i love the mix of classy and kawaii and kidcore/retro/nostalgiacore. it's so interesting and your collages are all beautiful <3 and above all, i LOVE the amount of pink in it!!! from an ex-pink hater, flishy<3
Tumblr media
The closest thing to a name I’ve seen for it in my travels is coquette, but like, it’s not really… encompassing this new breed of it that i’ve seen, floating around the place LOL. Like, if i had to sum-up what i’m talking about in a moodboard, it’d be this:
Tumblr media
Expensive bimbo is such a good title for the visuals of it. 😭 Because it really does delight in that—shopaholic, I’m a Barbie Girl <3 kind of superficiality, and yet like, again, the examples i’ve seen will contrast those with… a pack of tarot cards kept in someone’s purse, or 1950s books about getting your wife a lobotomy. Beyond the merging of the esoteric aspects (the tarot cards, the “im just a gemini girlie that’s why i lie <3” astrology), I find it can really verge on like, romanticising mental illness? Like, “omg, I’m such a Sad Girl TM, I slept until 3pm and all I’ve had for sustenance is a iced vanilla latte and a cigarette because i’m trying to ascend to God”—
I sound like I’m making fun of this, but I swear I’m not. Depression is a reality for so many of us, and as someone who has their Sad Girl hours and also like, really resonates with a lot of this Expensive Bimbo/Coquette aesthetic, I think that’s why I find this melding of them so fascinating? Because I am an expensive bimbo, lmfao. My skincare cabinet is filled with expensive, luxury brands that I buy on a whim—and i’ve always been a Pink Girl TM LOL, if that hasn’t been obvious. My favourite colour to wear is like, this soft strawberry-milk pink and I’ve recently come to the horrifying realisation that men will go out of their way to be nicer to me, while I’m wearing it LOL. I don’t even think it’s like, an attraction thing—I think the pink is just that striking, and disarming, that people immediately associate it with like, soft, squishy friendliness and then respond to it in kind (irritating; like i’m not inherently worthy of friendliness outside of whether or not i wear the colour pink???). Because I buy myself flowers, often, I’ve made friends with the florist there and as a result she always makes a fuss of wrapping my flowers for me so I now have a collection of ribbons that I either cull through reusing them for gifts or like, wear in my hair. i’m way too old to LARP with ribbon ponytails, but here we are!!
Goldie brought up Mina Le and Shanspeare, who are like, two fashion essayists/vloggers. Shan’s latest video—which i’ve linked—is like, a break down of how the need to identify with an “aesthetic” has become really prevalent, thanks to social media but full disclaimer: i haven’t watched it. Social media has definitely given like, both easy access to these sub-styles/aesthetics, and a rise to them (like what tiktok was calling whimsigoth? The 90s, painted-smiley-face-sun aesthetic with royal blue walls and iron wrought beds and those crushed velvet dresses with the renaissance sleeves), and i think the way they splinter off and become their own micro-niche styles/aesthetics is just… i dunno!!! Telling, maybe, of how easy it is for us to consume information and media and then the very human nature to like, wanna mimic the stuff we like. I’d consider that deranged-yellow-wallpaper-my-boyfriend-is-a-demon-who-comes-for-me-at-night-expensive-bimbo-core thing i’ve been prattling on to be like, a micro-micro style, LOL. Because it’s so oddly specific! So many different interests and styles had to meet in the middle to create it. There’s a pretentiousness to it, right? Like, “oh, i’m languishing here on my daybed, eating cherries and reading Proust in it’s original French” LOL, and I LOVE IT. I can’t read French, but like, if I could you’d bet your ass I would also languish around and eat cherries while reading Proust, or whatever. It’s delightful: the indulgence and selfishness of it reminds me of why I’m so attracted to x Reader fics, lmfao, like—it’s so unashamed. It’s perfect. I love every inch of it, the good and the bad and the problematic. I think they should study it in universities: why do we have this performative need to collect all the things we like and present it as a lifestyle? As something aspirational? I love it so much. Ugh. Imagine it in a fictional sense??? The damage, a character like that could do???? UghHhHhh okay I can feel myself going off tangent so I’m gonna stop this here, but anyways thank u BYE.

Dior research
After choosing my theme of tarot cards I began choosing on which part of tarot cards to base my theme around whether it was the characters in the cards or the symbolism and culture and I found that looking into a show which had already done something with the theme of tarot cards really helped me.
For Dior’s summer 2021 collection they chose tarot card characters as the inspiration for the show and they presented this show which begins with a young woman drawing the high priestess card from the pack which then guides her on a journey in which she encounters different characters from the deck which had been brought to life all wearing outfits which clearly show who the character is. The fashion show shown in the video is supposed to resemble self-discovery and self-acceptance for the main character being the young girl with help from the characters in amazing costumes all heavily detailed designs and unique for the character.
I think a good start to my project would be choosing two characters from the tarot card deck and designing different outfits for the character to wear like they did in this short story all inspired by my chosen artists so far and this collection for example I think I will choose “the fool” as one character to look into and taking inspiration from both the original card design of the fool and also from the Dior collection so my designs will most likely have patterned fabrics and flared sleeves, I think the patterned sleeves and flared silhouettes will help show who the character is and some more insight into who the character is as in what the character represents in the cars and also how they are presented.
Throughout the short film used to show off the different outfits for each card you see the fool used as a distraction from the characters justices throne which is the best way to sum up the fools cards meaning; the fool symbolised a distraction whether its wanted or not, the fool is presented with a naive appearance and personality making them seem childlike and shows them making foolish choices without thinking them through or giving any consideration which allows the audience to get a clear sense of who this character is not just due to the garment they’re wearing but also their actions. pulling the fool card from the deck also makes the person pulling the card ask how they are treating their inner child and if their inner child instincts are balanced.

This time last year the fashion world was introducing the fall collection for 2020. It was the last time the industry had a traditional in person fashion week reveal for designers fall collection. Over the last year we have all felt the tangible changes in the fashion industry. With retail moguls like Macy’s closing down many of their stores to global fashion week cancellations from Paris to New York and Milan, the industry has had to make serious adaptations to stay afloat. In the fast-paced world of runway fashion the seasons are revealed in opposing times of year; Spring/Summer in September and Fall/Winter in February. In September of 2020 we saw the Spring/Summer 2021, SS21, collections from couture and ready-to-wear designers. Virtual fashion shows became very prominent as designers began to adjust. Jeremy Scott from Moschino created a cinematic experience through a quirky strings-attached puppet show runway. This runway film was inspired by the origins of haute couture and completely starred handmade puppets with puppet sized versions of the entire collection. Dior created an ethereal Tarot collection film uncovering their SS21 collection. Each look was inspired by a different Arcana from a deck of celestial tarot cards. Other brands like French brand Jaquemus kept a more traditional in-person runway show for their SS21 Collection. According to Trend Spotter, an online fashion magazine, there were a few trends inspired by SS21 Fashion Weeks. The 80s called and oversized blazers are back, along with a 70s callback to yellow and light brown wardrobe pieces. Pastels and yellow purses seem to be prominent as well. A few weeks ago, the Fall/Winter 2021, FW21, fashion weeks ran around the world. Givenchy dazzled online audiences with a live stream on YouTube of their women’s and men’s Winter 2021 ready-to-wear collection. This film begins in the catwalks above the runway with suspenseful music and quick clips of several looks. Another notable fashion house film came from Virgil Abloh with Louis Vuitton revealing their Menswear for FW21. This film has a much more serene start and leads you into a green marble labyrinth. With events of social and racial injustice climaxing over the last year, Abloh created a collection called “Ebonics,” exploring his African heritage to express black consciousness in the fashion world. Abloh has had to navigate being a black American creative director in the European fashion world, which can be a feat in itself. Some may say Abloh was performative, others may think this was a progressive move. Fashion has always been about making a political statement and Abloh achieved this without misappropriating black culture like many brands have notoriously done so in the past. Hi! Do you know of any tiaras that use baroque pearls? (the kind that are lumpy)
I pretty sure that all pearls that aren’t round are baroque pearls so there are probably more baroque than non-baroque pearl tiaras because pear or drop shaped pearls are so popular for tiaras.  Here are a few that have more irregular baroque pearls.
This one made by Chaumet in 1897 is quite lumpy.
Tumblr media
Then there’s the infamous Fire & Ice Tiara made by Geoffrey Rowlandson in 2001 which everyone decided looks like teeth.
Tumblr media
Dior made some modern baroque pearl tiaras with gold spikes between the pearls for the Spring 2021 ‘Tarot’ Haute Couture collection.
Tumblr media
Blue Ivy Carter wore a tiara with baroque pearls for the Brown Skin Girl music video.  The delicate and open style of the tiara really suits her and I’d love to know who made it.  Every once in a while I try searching for the jeweler and I always end up frustrated.
