Like the thing is that even if the supposed health advice I come across is just about encouraging people to "avoid 'unhealthy' snacks they don't 'really' need" and not about maintaining full blown eating disorders, I still don't condone it. I don't believe in diet culture. I don't believe in restricted eating. I don't believe in the ideology of fatphobia. I don't just think all of the above is a problem when people are actively starving themselves to the point of death. I'm critiquing the entire concept

Isn’t there an insulin shortage? Was it only in America? I am worried about people with diabetes.
there's a shortage in the states that is exacerbating the already high prices:
there was also this, a tiktok weight loss trend leading to a global shortage of medication for type 2 diabetes (it isn't insulin though):
but I can't find anything about an insulin shortage in canada. if anyone can find any information on that, feel free to add it!

i wasted SO MANY YEARS worried about my bmi and body fat percentage and ideal weight and thigh size and calories per day and NONE OF IT MATTERS. literally none of it matters it's all fucking bullshit. i put my measurements into a calculator just now out of curiosity and one result said i was nearly underweight one said i was nearly obese and one said i was an average fit person. three very different responses for the exact same measurements and it DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER because so much of this "ideal weight" "ideal fitness" stuff is just fucking bullshit. literally none of those things mean shit. all that matters is that im eating enough that my body is happy and im not suffering. fuck "calories" fuck "carbs" fuck "bmi" none of it matters. i need to kill diet culture and fatphobia

im trying to incorporate some mindful eating by thinking more about what exactly I'm craving, if what I ate fulfilled it, and how to maximize satisfaction. fully removing screentime while eating is not for me lol but I think considering what's under my immediate craving is helpful especially since I over-value certain foods because of mental restriction

Actually, all food is guilt free if you let go of the idea that eating is somehow a moral failing

Wow, you've discovered a diet that would treat my ADHD?
All it takes is avoiding all the carbs/sugars we were already demonizing for fatphobic reasons? How convenient!
Thanks TotallyRealNutritionists dot com!

Am I the only one who thinks it's worrying and inappropriate that someone would add this to a "some nice things to do" list alongside encouragements to smile, be kind and make your bed? Like why are we casually encouraging disordered eating as a cute uwu healthy habit as if skipping a meal to chew sugar free gum isn't far more unhealthy than junkfood?! Why do I keep seeing this post with no criticism?!

The thing that diet culture tends to teach people is that you should only do Healthy Things with the promise it will keep you thin, but how about doing healthy things for you because it enhances your life, regardless of how your body responds?
You can do healthy things for your body because it feels good, because it brings you joy, because it's the right thing for you to do, or just because you want to. You don't have to tie it to the way your body is perceived by others

going out with my mom is so exhausting she just talks about her diet and how healthy she is now and shames other people’s choices or says other stuff is bad like she has always been wrapped up in diet culture but it’s somehow been sooo worse since she started intermittent fasting

since looking at ed recovery websites and social media, i keep getting very triggering weight loss adverts on almost every app i go on. is there any way to stop this?
I personally avoid ads by paying for a subscription on the apps I use frequently, and I know that there are ways to block ads for free if you're more technologically skilled than I am. But let me just say that it is beyond terrible that ANY site allows weight loss companies to buy their ad space and that it is horrifying that ads are getting in the way of your recovery journey at all. I'm so sorry this is a thing. We as a society need to do better!

sifting thru comments on dhmis 5: food. what strikes me as odd is the way so many people refer to it as nightmarish- & dont get me wrong, i 100% agree- it's just funny bc ever since i first watched it, it's always sort of embodied brain fog & derealization to me?
like, the way it opens and right away you're hit with the lines "hm! something's different." "hm,, something's.. missing." It gives me that feeling of knowing something's wrong, but not understanding why, or how; grasping at straws to make the world around you make sense, or to find the reason why it doesn't, while lacking the mental clarity to process it. and that episode really just tosses you right into it.
and when the teachers come in, right? a can bursts through a cabinet door (that, previously, had never been opened before), a meat guy just appears, props come out of nowhere, and the song is poorly sung and sounds strangely improvised. no context, no sense, and stuff that's vaguely threatening, but not overtly-- like the meat guy, who gets really close to the duck, and pokes him with a fork (despite the duck telling him off). and like, yeah, this is all stuff often used in dream segments, but it feels Different than that. It's like, the teachers, who are supposed to be trustworthy and knowledgeable, are there specifically to confuse the audience & characters--or that's how they end up coming across. Maybe they were perfectly well meaning, but carelessness and misguided attempts at educating someone (who is already on edge and disoriented) leads to them seeming much more threatening and bizarre than they really are.
of course, that's entirely incorrect, re: the end of the episode . but antagonizing isn't the goal of a lot of actual teachers who are spouting the same nonsense they were, y'know? The teachers in dhmis play the antagonists not to critique people with those ideas, but the ideas themselves. right? and yet, the experience of being expected to follow contradictory gibberish from someone who's supposed to make sense, while in a totally shot mental state, resonates a lot . and i'm sure it's similar for people involved in diet culture (since ik that's what the episode is actually about); how everyone's telling you different stuff but you're doing it wrong regardless, and you don't have any control or clear understanding of why. trapped by people who seem like they should be helping, but it's just Wrong .
mostly my point is that dhmis does a spectacular job of setting a mood, especially since it's relatable in so many contexts. it's Palpable and it escalates into utter horror so smoothly. plus, as i understand it, writing disjointed stuff is really hard without it falling apart, or being tedious to follow from the audience's perspective. dhmis 5 strikes that balance between abstraction and concreteness really well. and it's just funny to me how it so often parallels neurodivergent experiences lmao

hi what the fuck is an air up bottle. Dumbest fucking thing I've seen (at least with the marketing). Like maybe it's useful for people who can't have most sweeteners, but the way it's marketed is: "why drink a sugary drink like this person over here (who is fat, they're using it as an insult) when you can drink water and SMELL the flavor to trick your brain and not be unhealthy and gross! it's better because you aren't actually enjoying anything, you're SMELLING WATER." WHAT
