This is fully a personal preference thing honestly, but I've been turning it around in my brain why I don't like BingQiu specifically when I'm at worst neutral on almost literally any other ship and I think it boils down to this: it's really important to me that in a ship that's supposed to be lasting and stable at least one character can say "I see you for what you are and I accept you for all there is to you". And that's just not a thing with BingQiu.

Binghe literally can't know a huge part of Shen Qingqiu - the part that is Shen Yuan, the part that wears the scum villain as a mask that it can never even take off completely - because of the transmigration and the System. He also idolizes his Shizun and at the same time puts on mask after mask so that he can be Shen Qingqiu's lovely white lotus which also don't help.

And Shen Qingqiu's head is full of so many bees, so much denial and self-delusion that we watched him actively think himself in circles rather than admit that Binghe might be interested in him for three whole books. I don't trust him to have a reasonably realistic idea of himself, much less of someone else. Especially not Binghe. He will make up a picture in his mind about how things are supposed to be and it has to be an act of divine intervention for him to budge from it. He will deny reality if he has to, so he's incapable of seeing Binghe as anything other than the Perfect Protagonist.

I don't often see Binghe shipped with others (he's so singularly No Thoughts Head Empty Only Shizun that it's hard to put him with anyone else. Shen Jiu sometimes I guess, but he is shipped more with Bingge which feels like a distinctly separate thing to me and anyway, it's usually predicated upon the realization that they are both similar kinds of monsters, even if Bingge outdoes his scum villain by several orders of magnitude) but Shen Yuan has a few choice ships that either challenge his expectations enough that his denial and delusion breaks down eventually (Liu Qingge, Shen Jiu, etc.) or ship him with Airplane who knows him for what he is because he's also a transmigrator and he's familiar with Cucumber bro's acerbic inner self.

Other ships too. QiJiu/LiuJiu/QiJiuLiu any variations of these three tbh thrive on clearing up their misunderstanding and starting to see each other clearly again. MoShang get together once they start to properly pay attention to each other and their respective needs. Airplane in general has just an impossible understanding of whoever he's shipped with as only Author and his creations can have. Tianlang-jun's weird charm comes from it that he can't (or possibly refuses to) pretend to be anything than who and what he is beyond the most superficial disguise.

And BingQiu just doesn't have that. They are both too obsessed with an idealized version of each other to ever see things clearly and that's what makes their dynamic not very fun to me personally.

#svsss #like don't get me wrong #i enjoyed the novel a lot. it's a fun time and I don't mind the ship in that stage #their post canon dynamic is just not something I find fun and that's 200% a question of personal taste #if you love bingqiu I hope you have a great time and find only the best fic and art of your blorbos #it's not for me and that's fine #i guess if I wanted to make it work it would be Shen Yuan getting yeeted back into his own time #and Binghe coming after his husband #but losing the Protagonist Halo so he can. you know. suck in a lot of ways that the universe didn't let him before #and together they can work on bettering themselves and each other #but I would need to get in either of their heads to write it and no thank you. both of their heads are like full of bees or something #i would not have a good time #shut up tc

fun fact, during my first fully blind playthrought of bg3 I honestly thought gale was the writers' favourite if nothing else because of how much varied dialogue he had. like I never reallly had a conversation with astarion that wasn't about his trauma, his vampirism or how boring I am for not wanting to take over a cult but I knew all of gale's hobbies, two or three childhood's anecdotes and the whole history of tara, who he was making plans to introduce to me later.

#like i was honestly feeling sorry that astarion wasn't allowed even a single conversation about idk the fucking weather #i think because subconscously I was also comparing it to da2 which was careful to try to give characters more than just their trauma so #so I was like poor astarion he's just the trauma character #and then i found out HE was god's specialest princess #despite the fact that the official specialest princess still got conversatons about things that aren't her trauma DESPITE HAVING AMNESIA #bg3 #i don't even know where I am going about this it's just something that really stuck out to me about the writing #anyway thank god larian immediately set me straight and let me know my beloved wizard is actually the writers punching bag #god forbid I break my strike of not being wild over the more popular character in an rpg I guess #oh and they let me know i was supposed to be annoyed rather than going oh man I am glad I am learning so much about gale #like I understood why lae'zel had less content and expected her to have more in act 3 which she didn't but whatever #she should have #i mean now having played with everyone in the party for the whole game they all need more content but still #like astarion has more content than anyone else but also somehow I know less about him than anyone and like why

I had this delicious horrible thought last night while giffing PromNont. I'm pretty sure the show won't go there because there's only one episode left...

Okay so I finished Heartbreak High season two and I have to say I think they saved this season with the last episode. Like I have not liked quite a bit of this season but I think that last episode made it all okay again and I'm thankful for that. I'm gonna rewatch season two now to maybe judge it a bit better knowing how it's gonna end <3

Hello! I thought you'd be the person to send this to since you are a beacon of tlt thoughts, but I haven't seen anyone else mention this (maybe I just missed it) but in the glossary of htn it says "on Wake's death, BOE withdrew somewhat out of the eye of the Houses to regroup, but were enlivened by the reappearance of their legendary commander in the form of a revenant" and since BOE seem to be pretty active, with the missile attack and all, wouldn't that mean they somehow knew of Wake's revenant pre htn events, so she had some way of contacting them while in the sword and/or on the Ninth- I may be completely wrong of course but I thought I'd put it out there

Holy shit, so it does. It does say that. Wake has been in contact with Blood of Eden. And if it was her leadership and influence as a revenant that has enlivened her cell and inspired the nuclear attack....

Thinking about the timeline, I think it's most likely that she made contact with her people after they took the survivors and Gideon's remains into custody. Harrow was unconscious for twenty-nine days after her surgery, and the attack seems to have happened in the nebulous period of the first five chapters, while Harrow was in and out and the passage of time is impossible to gauge. That means Wake would have had about a month to make contact, plan, and execute the attack.

Well hell. That makes this exchange very funny in hindsight:

As for how it's possible for her to have contacted them while in the sword, we can refer back to Augustine's lesson on revenants. The corpus of a revenant—the physical part that anchors it to this world—is an item or items that it has a thanergetic link with. Grave goods, murder weapons, anything present at its death, anything it kills after dying, or, as we see in The Mysterious Study of Doctor Sex, the remains of a dead blood relative. The revenant's mind can only be present in one part of its corpus at a time, but it can have multiple concurrent links. That's how Wake was able to hop back and forth between the sword, Cytherea's body, and Harrow's dreams in Harrow the Ninth.

From the way things went down on the Mithraem, and the events in Doctor Sex, it seems that a revenant is limited by the physical capabilities of its vessel. Wake could not speak or take action from the sword; she needed Cytherea's body to move around and communicate, so she would need something similar to communicate with Blood of Eden.

Something like her daughter's empty corpse, perhaps? It would have been free real estate while Gideon was busy being entombed in Harrow's brain, and Judith did say her body was the "object of some weird superstition" to the Edenites.

I know I've already seen some folks saying they think Wake is going to possess Gideon like she did Cytherea. Count me in, I'm on your team now. I think she's already done it.

#taking that even further.....#that would mean that As Yet Unsent is set in the month after Canaan House while Harrow is out cold #which would makes sense for how well healed Judith is when Harrow sees her on the jungle planet #and means that Mercy likely examined Gideon's corpse before ever meeting Harrow #if Wake is possessing Gideon's body then the tests BoE were doing on it were probably before she'd gotten situated #it took her a long time to work up to being able to walk and talk in Cytherea's corpse #doesn't leave her much time to arrange the attack on the Cohort #but if she had any awareness of what was going on around her while in the sword she might not have needed much time #she was on the Cohort flagship #talk about a well placed spy #thank you so much for this you've blown my mind wide open #I NEVER NOTICED THAT DETAIL IN THE GLOSSERY #I didn't think she was going to drop hugely important plot revelations in the GLOSSERY #that's on me I guess #the locked tomb #tlt meta #nona speculation #harrow the ninth #htn spoilers #as yet unsent #blood of eden #commander wake #awake remembrance of these valiant dead kia hua ko te pai snap back to reality oops there goes gravity
