First inkvent doodle! Ofc starting off with the main girl herself - and gold seems very fitting for a sun goddess as well, even though it's always a bit of a struggle to paint with such a light colour. Unfortunately my phone has trouble picking up the glitter, it's actually quite sparkly in person

Back in the day the big names in the US were Parker, Sheaffer, and Waterman, but there were some great little makers too. Like this Venus lever-filler.
From what I can find, Venus brand pens and pencils were made by the American Pencil Company (later American Pen and Pencil) based out of Hoboken, NJ. They had a long history, but couldn't quite handle the postwar stationery scene and eventually got bought by Esterbrook.
The nib is very fine and dry, and a little flexy. I never know what to expect from Western fine nibs, but this one is a true fine point.
I love finding different celluloid patterns. There are so many! People went wild with plastic back in the day, and it's delightful.

It’s December, which means INKVENT!!!
I was not feeling it yesterday, so we get days 1 and 2 today.
Day 1: Fortunes Gold, a “chameleon” ink (I think that just means multicolored sparkles). Very yellow.
Day 2: Cashmere Rose, a standard ink. Dusky pink.
I tried to photograph the sparkles a little better.

Diamine ink pricing baffles me. Like… you’re telling me one 30 ml bottle is $13, but 3x30 ml bottles are $18, but 6x30 ml bottles are $23? It’s like… $13 for the first bottle and then an additional… $2 for every bottle after the first???

Here's a pen that's been patiently waiting in the repair pile:
Back in the day, pen models came in multiple sizes. Parker called their small Vacumatic "debutante" for some reason. Here it is next to a normal Vac:
It has a very fine nib. Took some tuning to get it flowing again. As the materials age, they can deform and screw up their function. It writes well now.
The engraving says "JACIE E HANNER", and to my delight I found a little bit about her online. Jacie E. Hanner passed away in 1993 at the age of 82 in Seymour, Indiana (where the pen shipped from). And she established two grants: one for a high school and one for the Humane Society.
I wonder, did someone inherit this pen and use it in her memory? And now they too have passed, maybe.
Anyway, Jacie, I fixed your pen.

Went on a bit of an ink buying spree (thanks to CultPens’ ridiculously good Diamine prices). Clearly I need to do more letter-writing, or perhaps holiday cards this year?
(Would anyone be interested in one if I do?)
