Does a USB drive get heavier as you store more files on it?

Nope. Paradoxically (and theoretically), the more you save on a flash drive, the lighter it gets.

USB drives use Flash memory, which means the the ones and zeros of the data are stored on transistors.

When you save data, a binary zero is set by charging the float gate of the transistor, and a binary one is set by removing the charge.

To charge it, we add electrons, and the mass of each electron is 0.00000000000000000000000000091 grams.

This means that an empty USB drive (which mostly holds zeros) weighs more than a full USB drive (which has ones and zeros). Add data, reduce the weight.

I'm sincerely very happy for anyone who is enjoying the show but every time I see takes that the show has improved the book characterizations or that the book characters are underdeveloped in comparison to the show...

#our experiences are very different lmao #pjo show crit #sure the show isn't completely out yet #but id argue that the characters (namely the trio) seem way more developed and well-rounded in the book by this point in time (episode 4)#and look im not saying every change the show has made is bad #but by and far there has yet to be a change to characterization that feels like an IMPROVEMENT from the source material lmao #the closest contender I'd say is show Percy does seem a tad angrier than book Percy #but again I wouldn't call that an improvement... its just different and I think that /change/ works because it feels like the same essence #but even that has had some issues because I feel like the show has inadvertently cut down some of Percy's canon book empathy here and there #I think the show has nailed Annabeth's pride and intelligence and her warped worship of her mother #... but they've also made her hyper competent to the point that she's not making half of the mistakes she did in the book #which ISNT good because book annabeth is smart but she isn't infallible #its a big point that she has the theoretical intelligence but none of the real world experience/application #she gets tricked by medusa and goes to visit the Arch just cause she loves architecture and that's okay!! she's twelve and a nerd!#I also dont like that they've cut/toned down her little crush on Luke #actually they've not even showcased the familial bond between annabeth and Luke either in the show so like lmao #and then grover #by now grover's fear of failure and repeating this past mistakes and wanting a license has already been acknowledged in the books at least #in the show?? not so much #and his canon book suspicions and wariness of medusa... were given to annabeth #like medusa in the book was Grover's moment to shine cause his instincts were right!#and in the book fight he even very intentionally attacked medusa #but his highlights there were cut completely in the show #and finally sally #...idk who that is in the show but that's NOT my sally jackson #percy jackson #mine

I think the biggest thing about Sunless Skies that gives it a different feel than Fallen London (other than the obvious gameplay differences) is the position of your player in the universe. In Flondon, your character is important and singular. The storyline is oriented around mastery and influence: starting from the bottom and climbing to the top, gaining recognition and reach as you unravel the world's secrets. While social play is encouraged, there are few in-game characters comparable to the PC, and in many plotlines the idea of being the only or the first one to accomplish a certain thing is specifically emphasized. The story is about what path you take to Make Your Name.

In Sskies, that goal is not absent, but there's a sense of...fleetingness, that never quite leaves you. There are many others like you. You see their entries in the cache logs, they are mentioned in the ports and pubs, you find their frozen bodies littering the open void like stones. It is the very first thing you know when you start: you are a Captain filling the shoes of a predecessor, and in all likelihood simply keeping them warm for the next to come after you, and the next. Your time is limited. Your significance to the wild, vast, ancient skies is negligible. The drive in the story comes from this: Your space in this universe is small and hard fought. Make it count.

#fallen london #sunless skies #i would say I like the sskies version better but honestly I think they both work great for their own applications #both in setting and for the way the games are played #I've seen the flondon fame gathering thing criticized occasionally but honestly I've always read it as like #a tongue in cheek parody on rich Victorian ego #as well as being inherently flexible，because of how players tend to treat the stories #for some it will be about doing Everything，but for most it's about getting a wide choice of what to focus on and how to specialize #in a character development sense #and also the story really is about How you get there and who you are while doing so #what with the quirks and everything #that's a mechanic that's notably absent from sskies #probably because your character is meant to be less permanent and less noticeable as an individual #most of the in-game character defining you do relates to building out their past with facets #because their present and future are so tentative and so embedded in the bigger picture #I really really like it. it's almost like the world is more the character #but ALSO the feel of like. the game does not treat loss lightly. there are Implications and narrative even for the loss of unnamed crew #it all also plays in so so nicely to the switch from flondon's tightly controlled sheltered chaos #(enclosed in a cave，tightly governed by the Bazaar，the sense of a new world building itself on top of older ones)#vs the Reach being so open and fraught and wild and legitimately teetering on the brink in every way #the way the characters are treated fits so so well into the political landscapes too #like. sskies is wartime.#the messaging that you the individual is fleeting and disposable and that it's what you donate your effort to that matters is Constant #so it works really really well there #oh now I want to go on again about how well the flondon way works in a meta sense for gameplay and community building #because it's emphasizing individuality while also paired so heavily with social actions and -#ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu #hey gang have i mentioned. its so sick and twisted how many people have been genuinely made to believe that the purpose of space exploration is expansively colonizing the universe and not like. the betterment of life on earth. the absurdly vast majority of active space use is satellite technology. the final frontier is not the search for a far off world yet to be conquered, but the search for a better understanding of the very planet we come from. we are looking towards earth, not beyond. and in so many ways as well! analyzing crop and soil to grow more plants. providing reliable and recent information for first responders, retracing animal migration patterns across the globe to protect their habitats. optimizing infrastructure by having a bird’s eye view on urban sprawl. and so so many more. even human exploration is not aimed at brute expansion, but at developing technology to survive and thrive under adverse condition - not to apply it a universe over, but on earth. it’s not about escape and it never was. it is about reconciliation. and it’s so sad the the mad dreams of a few unhinged billionaires and self-aggrandizing hollywood blockbusters have ever made us believe anything else.

I've gotten accustomed to reading Jack's childhood skip as a narrative hand wave so he can function on more or less the same level as the other characters and since he's not human and we're watching supernatural it feels permissible to take that leap in logic and go ahead and read him as a young adult. He is highly naive and inexperienced and there is a very large power imbalance involved with him and his caretakers and those are core aspects of his character that make him uniquely vulnerable to the abuse and trauma that he suffered, but those things don't necessarily make him an infant and I don't think that's how he's meant to be read.

#but i dont mind if others feel differently bc it is a gray area and it IS interesting to consider the nuance of his development #like my personal gripe with baby!jack is that its generally *boring* in application #but ive seen the concept used in interesting ways #most obvious harm ive seen come out of jacks infantilization is when people are accused of shit for finding this adult man attractive #regardless of your perspective on jacks age i think most can agree that thats pretty harmful and i see why this is such a contentious area #especially when like 40% of jack content is baby!jack domestic destiel fodder #BUT we should also be able to engage with good faith perspectives about this without going straight to accusations of ableism #the fantasy elements involved mean that there is no clear cut answer here #idk maybe ill change my mind about some of this im just dumping my thoughts here right now #jack kline

I'm not saying you have to like Gregory, not all characters are even made to be liked, it's just funny seeing the reactions to him. And I think maybe some of you need to calm down a bit? He's a child character with ambiguous motives and morals and y'all are hating so hard it's getting tiresome.

I mean, I saw somebody go on a full rant on a post not even about Gregory specifically, about 'oh it's heavily hinted that Gregory is this particular character who killed loads of people so they wouldn't find out he was behind the disappearances and every single thing he's done has been a lie including his relationship with Freddy and then he also betrayed Cassie and you can't say he's just a kid like that gives context to his actions and it's not confirmed he was under the control of Burntrap or the Mimic, he's just bad, the absolute worst character, completely irredeemable and I hate him, sorry if you like him!' like the whole fandom isn't nuts over famous FNAF child killer William Afton.

#and I'm not saying people don't also say bad things about Afton #it's just well understood that a good villain is cool #kids can do bad things and still be bad but it does give a different spin to it than an adult #because in theory adults have more control over their thoughts and actions due to their brains being fully developed #and yeah being ND would also be an applicable factor to crimes #In the end though we're talking about fictional characters and #you really don't have to take every chance you get to rant about Gregory it just brings people #especially those who like him but also those who don't care down for no reason #fnaf sb #fnaf Gregory
